Sag Harbor Tavern started out with a great vibe and friendly service. The staff was attentive and provided helpful recommendations, which initially set a positive tone for the evening. The ambiance, while fitting the tavern theme, was exceedingly dark, making it difficult to read the menu, especially with some walls painted completely black. The reservation policy was also perplexing; requiring reservations just to have a drink at the bar seemed counterintuitive for a place branded as a tavern, especially during a busy Memorial Day weekend. The experience presented a mix of highs and lows. The croquettes were exceptional, featuring a well-balanced blend of dijonnaise, aged cheddar, and ham, which created a delightful flavor profile. This appetizer raised expectations for the meal, but unfortunately, the main courses did not meet the same standard. The highly anticipated $30 burger, despite being made with dry-aged beef, was a letdown. The burger was bland and only came with white onion and American cheese, lacking any additional toppings or special sauces that would justify its price. For $30, one would expect a more luxurious selection of dressing, such as premium cheeses, lettuce, tomato, etc. The toasted bun, while airy and soft, did little to elevate the overall experience. In comparison, a fully dressed burger at McDonald's offers more. Additionally, I have never in my life seen a place that prices its burger higher than fish and chips. The presence of burnt bits on my fries from the fryer further detracted from the meal. The fish and chips, priced at $28, also fell short. The thin batter, although crispy, did not adhere well to the fish, which tasted less fresh than expected. The same uninspired cottage fries accompanied the dish, lacking both flavor and texture. The overall blandness of the dishes highlighted a need for significant improvement in both flavor and presentation. In summary, while the opening weekend may account for some of the shortcomings, the experience at Sag Harbor Tavern was underwhelming. The potential is there, particularly with standout items like the croquettes, but much work is needed to elevate the main courses to match the initial promise. The burger, which is supposed to be a highlight, was particularly disappointing given its high price and lackluster execution. Until substantial improvements are made, I would hesitate to recommend this establishment and might consider revisiting in a few months to see if the necessary changes have been implemented. read more

Saw this restaurant on social media. Not worth the hype and especially not for the price. They were out of the wedge salad, not sure how when they suggested a caesar salad instead and the famous burgers were nothing special. The chicken on the caesar salad was barely cooked and rubbery. If I could give 0 stars I would, the service there was awful whenI checked to see if the food i was about to order had mushroom in it since i am allergic to them the waiter simply rolled her eyes then answered. I needed up getting the the burger which was so salty, there was also a $6 cocktail service charge with every drink ordered while dining in which is ridiculous. for a place that takes a long time for food to come they should get at least get heating lamps outside. read more

The service here was really meh. The burger took like an hour and in my opinion, was not worth the hype. It was a good burger for sure, but the atmosphere kind of threw it off for me. Without getting into to many of the specifics, service was downright awful. We had a reservation. It took 10 minutes at least for the hostess to seat us (even though it did not look that busy). Then, we had sat at the table for 20 minutes with nobody having come over to us. I then asked the hostess to send someone over. She smiled and said "of course, sir". Nobody came for 5 minutes. I then asked the woman who was re-setting the tables to send someone over. That woman also said "of course, sir". Another 5 minutes and nobody came over. I finally got up and asked a waiter who had been serving another table. That waiter finally took our drink order. Waiter never really checked on the table, although he quickly got what we needed when I "grabbed" him while he was doing other things, and requested something from him. My guests liked the food a lot. I did not think as highly of it, although certainly it was not bad. I'm an East End year-rounder. For the prices they are asking, not going back there anytime soon. (I do note that many of the East End restaurants lose staff on Labor Day, and this was the day after. Nonetheless, at their prices, they need to do better.) read more

We love trying new spots, especially if there's a certain dish they're know for. That being said, the burger was so over hyped, we were left severely bummed. Started the meal off with a bang because we changed our minds with the wine after being offered a taste of it. It had a weird after taste. Ever since then our meal was ill-fated, as our server's attitude deteriorated and remained there. The kale was very good. We were most excited for the burger. Even saw Bethany Frankel loved it. We were a big party with an early reservation. Sat outside on the front patio which was lovely. Service was very friendly and attentive. 5 stars for service. Food, however, was nothing special. Shrimp cocktail came out with veins and needed to be sent back. Kale salad was the winner at the table. Wedge salad was also good. Crudo was fair. Branzino was flaky but could have used something more. Side of broccoli was ordered per waiter's suggestion but baby cauliflower came out which wasn't very good. Most at the table ordered the burger after reading about them and we all were very disappointed. They were fine burgers - cooked well (all but one which was sent back for more fire and then came out perfect), tasted good, soft bun - but after reading reviews of the most amazing burger and the huge price tag of $30, it really didn't live up to the hype. Made a reservation with a 7-week-old baby for outside patio on 9/9. Showed up to a private company party, no warning, no heads up call, no apology, just a locked door and no number to call. Arrived 2 days later for a reservation, needed a spot outside bc of said 7-week-old baby and manager was un-accommodating. Explained situation 2 days prior and manager was "sorry for the other night" but also, not sorry as he made ZERO effort to right it. From the friendly greeting of the hostess who happily accommodated our request for an outdoor table to our waiter who was great! Made a reservation for a late lunch (1:45pm) on a Saturday. The gentleman that was the "Host" seemed untrained and lost. We were third on line to check in and he was as slow as molasses. And he was busy cleaning tables while there was a line of unattended patrons. We ordered two burgers, one M and one MR, and the ravioli. After about 30 minutes the two burgers arrived, one well done and one barely medium. I didn't sent the overcooked one back because I knew it would be another half hour for a new one. A restaurant that is known for their burgers should be experts at cooking them properly. In the meantime, I've had great burgers at many places, but this wasn't one of them. It was extremely greasy and tasteless (overcooking can do that!) And...the ravioli never came! Some kind of "glitch" in the computer. The overwhelmed, very nice waiter told us he took the ravioli off the bill, which gave us a good laugh. Final word....SHT, better get your act together or you're doomed out here where we have so many better options! read more

We went to Sag Harbor Tavern for the first time and we were not disappointed. We were greeted by an upbeat staff member and sat right away. Our server was excellent and attentive. We order drinks that were delicious and flavorful. Our daughter ordered a mocktail which was super tasty as well. Menu was full of great choices. We ordered a special capicola that was served with incredible bread!!! Delicious! Also tried the wedge salad and prawns in the most tasty sauce( more bread to dip yum). We then had a pasta that was freshly made in house , my daughter had French onion soup, and lastly we ordered a burger. The burger was superb! Yummy fries on side!!! Lastly we ordered the rainbow cookies and their version of an ice cream sundae! Both fabulous!!! I saw black and tan beers go by that I will be trying next time! I know it's a new restaurant out here in Sag so I'm sure there will be some bumps, but all in all I thought it was a positive experience!!!! Great job!!! read more

Staff not particularly welcoming, especially for a new place. And it was understaffed, not enough servers. I ordered a 50$ entree, and although tasty, it came with nothing on the side and had a lot of oil; when I asked for some bread to sop up the "sauce" and I was repeatedly informed "The chef will have no bread service" even though I could see bread being served with an order of mussels at the next table. I offered to pay for the item- still no go. I believe a) if a customer makes a reasonable request for something that is obviously in the house, esp if offering to pay it should be fulfilled b) at that price it should come with something on the side. The food was decent, not outstanding, wouldn't rush back. Just seems unfriendly, it's a really only pub with high prices. These "bread wars" at the restaurants is another unfortunate result of Covid; if restaurants don't want to provide bread free of charge anymore it should at minimum always be available for a price. I just returned from Italy and every restaurant served bread gratis without being requested, but this is bottom line America. The new owner would do well to remember that Dockside was here for 20 plus years and customers were used to a certain vibe. read more
