Let me start this review on a positive note; their chicken tikka masala was possibly the best I've ever had. Their naan was also phenomenal; crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Thoroughly enjoyed my meal; however.... This is where my positive note ends. From the second I entered the restaurant to the second I left, there was a guy that looked old as dirt who worked behind the counter that was glaring at me and giving me disgusted looks. I mean, one of the guys told him to take my order, I told him what I wanted, and he just kept glaring at me; the guy didn't report my order or say a word, just glared at me. The other guy came back and asked me if I ordered and I told him I had, but I guess the message didn't get through to the kitchen (obviously). After the other guy took my order and gave me my food, old dirtbag literally watches me eat my food and gives me disgusted looks from behind the counter. I even switched tables and he moved positions to give me disgusted looks! It was pretty uncomfortable. I went to go pay for the food and this guy just continues to glare at me and he wouldn't even take my money. I literally could have just left with a free meal but I have more integrity than that so I waited for the other guy to come out so I could pay someone for the good meal I had. Overall I would have given this place a good 4-5 stars on the food; HOWEVER as long as they allow that old bag of bones to work behind the counter, I'm keeping the review at 3. Sagar restaurant is the place not for any autistic or for any special needs children , their waitress are so rude and and their management is the worst. We have went to the Jackson Heights Sagar restaurant for celebrating my child's birthday and become a disaster of his life . First , we are went there and forget the covid vaccine card so my husband went to go pick up the card from home , but by these time they letting go other customers go in without the covid prove , yes, you guess it right because they didn't have any autistic child who is making regular autism noise, anyone who understand or have autistic child . As we are waiting the manager comes and tell us that the chef are living in 15 minutes and if we need to order we can order , all these time we are sitting in front of the door. By these time the waiter jumping in front of my Autistic son and telling he should be shut off , his sound is bothering their customer. There are other children and they don't make the noise like my son and then she is saying how a bad mother I am that I can't my son to be make quite or make him act like a normal child. Feeling so bad and as a mother of naturally feeling so bad decided to order and then manager informed us that the chef is done for the order so we can't order the food . So as we are waiting the sales girl are taking order from the customer who is coming in and all the phone orders too . Yes, you guess it right that they don't want to serve the food who is autistic or who is disable . I have and my autistic child have never feels so humiliated in our life. Is being autistic is his fault or my fault , it's Allah who chooses to be him like that . My question to all the parents who have children or autistic child , It is your fault that your child is autistic or disable. Allah is there . Sagar has some of the best Bengali food in the tri-state area. Their chicken roast and murug pulao (chicken with rice) as well as their mixed vegetables are simply to die for. I come here to get take out at least 2x a month. Extremely savory and mouth watering food. Can be a bit on the oilier side but it can't really be helped, it comes with the territory. read more

The food's good. That's undebatable. But I always notice the lack of hygiene amongst the workers. I've been there multiple times, with and without my family, until one day my father FOUND A BAND-AID in his samosa. I then knew my suspicion about their hygiene was not misled!! I am Bengali, so I can tell you the food is authentic. This place is so popular, it's ridiculous. Just keep an eye out for band-aids or anything of that sort if you're still willing to eat there. There is no doubt that food was delicious. Chicken lollipop, Thai soup, Sagar mixed friend rice and there is more and more. however, there is some issues that make the trip to Sagar little bit difficult. 1st comes the parking. It's very hard to find one close by. If you have kids or elderly, you need to think about it. 2nd thing, very narrow waiting area. There are only 5 - 7 people can wait in that specific place. If there more than that, you have to wait in your car or hang around outside until your call comes up. Now, the third thing the eating space is very narrow that the one groups chairs got stuck with others. very hard to eat freely and movement becomes very limited. That's why most of the time I order on phone, bring them home and eat in comfort, because I love there foods. read more

The food over here is pretty amazing. I love their chicken roast as well as Haleem during their Eid or Ramadan occasion. The staff is very fast and attentive. Very glad this place is close to my home. Most of the food I ordered was good, all but the beef curry which I found to be quite bland ;p Their chick pea dish is delicious and I LOVE the shami kabobs at Sagar. The price of the food shocked me in a good way, i was expecting to spend close to 50 dollars but ended spending around 20 dollars instead. I'd say check it out, order the chick peas and the shami kabobs. The beef biryani looked good and everyone was eating it but I had the chicken biryani instead which was just OK and not as bland as the beef curry. read more

A friend of mine came to visit recently and we decided to order in and looked online. It said they they delivered but unfortunately they don't. Luckily they aren't far from where I live. We looked at the menu online and saw some items on the menu that looked good. When I called they didn't have most of what I or my friend wanted. They said they don't cook to order. Apparently they cook items for the day and whatever is left that's it. I was a little upset but it was what it was. We were hungry so we ordered anyway. I ordered the chicken tikka masala, with the basmati rice. My friend had the goat biryani. We shared a butter naan, chicken samosas and vegetable rolls. The guy who took my order over the phone thought I wanted an extra rice but I guess didn't hear me clearly. So we ended up with a whole container of white rice. No flavor. Wasn't a fan. The tikka seemed burnt before they put it in the sauce so there were a lot of black pieces in there. I guess they cook the chicken then add the sauce later? Not a good look. The naan was super thick and not as buttery as expected. I tasted the goat biryani my friend had. Not a fan. The best things were the samosas and the veggie rolls. If I'm ever super hungry I might go there again. Otherwise I'd go to another spot. read more

I work near hear and come by every so often for the chicken curry and naan. It's tasty and spicy Bangladeshi food.

The food was good but the service was horrible. They acted as if I came in asking for free food. I went in for takeout and had to wait for a long time. Staff were not helpful at all when I asked about different dishes as I'm not Bengali. I did notice if you speak their language they treated customers different and got there order ready faster. This restaurant is very good at spicy food. Now they have tea very good tea . Who ever making this tea he knows how to make a tea ! I liked there tea. Awesome food, and very inexpensive which I was shocked to see considering everything we had was worth double the money. The hot and sour soup was perfect, for once I never had to add anything to make it delectable. The fried rice could be a dish on its own. For two people our bill (lunch special app and meal) was $12. This one of the busiest Bengali/ Indian restaurants in Jamaica, NY. They have tons of verities of foods. All of them are spicy which is my favorites. However, We were been there today in lunch. We had beef bhoona and chicken curry with garlic naan. We enjoyed our lunch so much, mostly the Gaelic Naan. That was extraordinary. I'll defiantly stop by if I get chance. read more

Their place is decent looking, I love love their chicken lollipops, the service is good although the waitress seemed very uncomfortable in her position as a server. Their soups are yummy, the chicken fried rice very delicious as well. The funny thing is, the last time I went there I got an order of chicken lollipops to go and the waiter charged me 6.95 when in the menu it said 5.95, I asked him why was it a dollar extra (I knew there were no service charges added for takeout since I'm a regular) and he replied "yes", which did not make a sensible answer to my question so I just gave up on talking to him. So first of all Sagar is not a Pakistani or Indian Restaurant, Sagar is 100% Bengali. I grew up near Sagar. I grew up eating the chicken roast and the biryanis. My favorite is still the chicken biryani. They have all kinds of Bengali foods cooked fresh everyday, but what made them famous in the community is their biryanis. When you go you have to go up to the counter and order, it is a little confusing because they don't have their signature items listed and the daily specials are behind the glass counter. I feel like they are counting on you to know what you want by the time you go there. You should check out the website for the different types of biryani and other dishes before you go. The fridge behind the counter has all traditional sweets. I recommend the chom choms, doi (yogurt), rosh malai, roshogollah. Oh and the Moghlai Paratha is a good appetizer. It's a puff pastry layered and stuffed with spicy fried egg and ground beef. It's awesome you all should go. read more

Coming from Brooklyn this place is a trek- way out near the end of the F line in Queens. Luckily some friends drove me here!! Seriously, when you walk in you know this is the real deal- I was the only Anglo/European guy in the place everyone else was Bengali/Bangladeshi. There was also very little English being spoken- always a good sign when you're on the hunt for authentic cuisine from another culture. I came here with my closest friend who is of course Bengali. Enough with the background......on to the food......This stuff was amazing. Think Provencal France or Andalusia Espana. Places where the common people of the land cook simple amazing food. Everything I tasted here was delicious and most importantly each dish tasted specifically spiced, as opposed to the usual "all over curry" flavor of most Indian restaurants throughout NYC. We had a large variety of dishes- a mixed chili dish sautéed with some incredible spices and sauce, dal that was out of this world, a fresh salad with hot chili, Lamb Biryani that was breathtaking, and mutton curry that was perfectly spiced. Perhaps though what most impressed me was the simplest part of our meal- the Nan. It was a masterpiece by itself and I could have gladly made a meal of it and chutney alone. It was deftly charred around it's edges with little to no doughiness anywhere. Simply amazing. We had a huge amount of food and in about 30 minutes it was gone. If you want the real deal this is it. My only reason for 4 stars was the environment of the restaurant- it got a little cold for our dates. But aside from this I had 0 complaints. I shall return. read more
