Whenever in NY I never miss my chance to eat their Thai Soup, Chicken Lollipop. It is always delicious and mouthwatering.

Got a whole lot of food for $57 - 4 Chicken biryani ($7 each), 1 chicken roast $7, 1 chicken tikka masala $7, 2 paratha ($1 each), 6 shami kabab ($0.50 each), 6 meat samosa ($1 each), 4 veggie samosa ($1 each). I got everything cold and heated it up at home. credit card accepted. :) Chicken biryani is very mild in heat - I was expecting a much more intense heat but was a bit disappointed. big portion though and a drumstick and a thigh! chicken roast was yummy! not the rotisserie that I was thinking but the sauce is very distinct and a nice kick. chicken tikka masala is yogurt based and spicy also. this was my family's favorite dish. Out of all the fried stuff we got, i liked the meat samosa the best. nice heat and crunchy exterior. more like phyllo dough. The vegetable samosa was decent but I've had better. the meat/chick pea patty was not bad. They didn't have naans when I was there (~11am Sat) and it took me about 30min to get my food. This is true authentic Bengali food. Delicious, fresh, and consistently good. Their chicken roast ( yes we say it that way and not roast chicken!) has become famous not just in the tri-state community, but in other parts of the country as well. As a vegetarian working in Jamaica Queens, it can be hard to get a well rounded meat-free meal. It is never hard here. The large Bengali community has quite a few resturants in the area, but Sagar stands out for their variety and freshness. It is always crowded with locals (a good sign) and has never disappointed. Soooo good! When you see a lot of locals go and form some lines in front of their hot steaming buffet tables, you know the food must be good. Had the briyani (chicken and rice) which had nice subtle flavor. Totally craved it the next day. The roast chicken was not bad either. You also gotta try the kibari or hibari kabobs. Nowadays, Sagar is basically one of the few Bengali-owned/run restaurants in Queens that are really worth going to. A lot of the others in Jackson Heights in particular have either gone out of business, gotten violations, or just running on their reputation. Sagar since it was first established in whatever year has remained one of the go-to places for Bengalis. I think they got the most catering requests out of any bengali restaurant in the city. Basically, every time there's a wedding, or a mosque is doing a special event they'll get it catered by Sagar. That all being said, you really can't go wrong with anything here. No, really. GREAT food! Really authentic Bengali taste. I recommend the various chicken curry stuffs. It's also wonderfully cheap, and wonderfully crowded and happening. A warning though: it's a very no frills restaurant. They will not waste any time with and presentation or other niceties. That is, they will slop the food onto styrofoam plates and serve you with plastic utensils and disposable glasses. They'll also literally microwave the food right in front of you as their way of preparing it. Also the service, while totally functional, is perhaps rude and makes no effort to have manners. But just think of this as adding to the authentic experience! If none of that is a problem for you, this restaurant is GREAT! read more

Casual spot with some very tasty food. Since I don't really know Bangladeshi food, my friend (who is Bangladeshi) ordered a whole bunch of stuff and it was all really good. The vegetable dishes were actually my favorite -- two different orders had distinct spices (one more a mustard-based spice). This gem of a restaurant is packed away in the bustling hillside avenue. This place is has some of the best bengali food . The chicken curry is tremendous as is the chicken makhni. The roti (Bread ) and parathas were made fresh to order and were awesome. The restaurant is full of locals and is a bit of a cafeteria type restaurant.. you order at the counter as the food is already laid out, unfortunately they use a microwave to warm up your food and still tastes incredible ... I think if I ate it made to order I might smack my momma. Anyways pay for your food and try to wrangle a seat. Fyi the place is usually crowded with locals and might be hard to wrangle yourself a seat... Some locals even like to lounge around so just politely ask them to move a seat down and enjoy your food. Sagar is definetly one of the better and cleaner Bengali restaurants I have been to in NYC. Their food is pretty delicious. I have to give a 4 star not a 5 because I feel they can improve on certain items on their menu like the parathas that turn rock solid in 5 minutes. Mango lassi is just mango juice and crushed ice and their burhani is horrible. Their service is pretty good especially their Catering service. I love Sagar's chicken biryani. It is honestly the best biryani I have ever had. One plate costs $6 and it can be split among 2 people. If I want something quick to eat, I go for the naan and kabab which is about $3. I also like their goat curry. This is a good place for catering purposes as well. My family has ordered for large events such as birthdays, milads, and anniversary parties. They are reliable and affordable. This is not really a fancy dine-in type place. The customers there are usually just hanging out with friends and eating a casual lunch/dinner or sipping on some tea. You wouldn't come here to host an event. Being in the mood for some Indian, I turned to Yelp which pointed me here. But it's not Indian, it's Bengali apparently. Having no idea what to get, my friends and I asked for what they recommended and got goat curry, some buffalo fish dish, a chicken curry, potatoes and beans, some rice, and some meat samosas. Abu, the guy at the counter was very helpful letting us letting us try a bit of everything before we agreed to get a dish. All that for 32 bucks? Sweet. After getting home, we threw everything in the microwave for a minute as they were not very hot, not even warm. Still, everything was worth it. Starting with the samosas toasted in the oven for a bit, they were great bites but perhaps a bit too oily. The goat curry was by far my favorite. Very little game taste and fall off the bone goodness. The chicken was also good but there was a decent amount of oil in the dish. The flavor of the fish was also very good and if you like fish more than me (I don't hate nor like the texture of it) you'd probably like it a lot more. This place has a lot of potential but the fact that they microwave everything really turns off my appetite. They give one free salad- cucumber slices and lettuce with a quarter wedge of lime and a Thai chili pepper and a pitcher of water. The salad looks old as though it was sitting there all day because the cucumber edges were drying up. I was going to order both the Haji and the kacchi biryani but they were out of the kacchi. The haji taste terrible. The rice was very mushy and the goat meat was barely there. Mostly bones. I would give this 0 star if I can. It cost $9- large portion but taste really bad. Chicken Tikka Masala- this is not good. The chicken is rubbery due to getting reheated in microwave and the sauce was mostly cream. Do not recommend. $7 and it is served in a foam bowl. Naan- This is worth it. It is actually toasty and it is big. The size of a personal pizza and cost only $1. Meat samosas- chicken, onions, potatoes with spices. This is amazing. It cost $1 each and the skin is nice and crisp. Think spring roll crispy and the filling was just delightful. One of the best I had. Take the F train to 169th Street to get this. It is worth it and skip out on the rest. Mostly locals eat here and this is more of a hole in the wall. Service was quick. I would only come back for the naan and the samosas. The rest just does not taste good. The staff here were okay- they were not mean and I did not get any odd stares as other yelpers mentioned. read more

Love their chicken fried rice and their general tsao chicken !! Little portions but really worth the taste. A little pricey but the quality of the food is really great ! The only reason I am giving this a 1 star is because of the pleasant staff. Outside of that I would NOT even place it. I have been to this place a couple of times and just remembered to review it! Sagar to me is THE place outside of Bangladesh where I get to eat the famous Hajir Biryani. What is this you ask? It's only known to people who've actually lived in Dhaka like myself. Hajir Biryani is a tehaari which you can think of as a sub-group of biryani. Unlike biryani which you cook with mutton and butter, and spice it with saffron, tehari is cooked with beef and mustard oil, and it doesn't need the saffron. The rice and beef (mixed with the mustard oil and some other basic spices) are essentially steamed together for hours so that the beef becomes really tender and the rice picks up the beef juices. Perfection. Hajir biryani is named after a very well known hole in the wall place in the old part of Dhaka that's been in business for decades, where the only dish served is this, and it's served steaming hot in a bed of dried leaves and side of green chillies and lime. Whenever I eat this it brings back some of my fondest childhood memories from Dhaka when we would order this whenever my extended family got together for a special occasion. Finally, to justify how beloved Hajir biryani is, my parents brought back a few boxes from Sagar when I was living in St. Louis and it made for a few blissful meals :) Definitely worth trying! started going here when they were a hole in the wall - i think the food at that time was 5 star - it's still real good, how about 4.5 stars breakfast - this is what i love about this place - order omlet, shami kebab, kidneys, thin cut potatoessometimes they have paya or nihari (don't think twice just get it) why? their flavours are closer to authentic north indian spices than say a typical punjabi restaurant in queens (which is brutal in their use of spices, subtlety does not exist) eat with paratha (cholesterol heaven) lunch or dinner try everything but always ask what fish they have, sometimes it's not on the steam table display - fish always awesome, be sure to ask about bones (if u r fussy) cause bengalis are oblivious to bone in fish they just chew the mf - rice any variety of biryani is always good - wish they would use better basmati though their savoury snacks, especially the stuffed chicken ones are just spectacular, honestly i cant find any better in all of nyc desserts - their kala and gulab jamuns, if u r into that, are delish, other desserts are real good too decor is basic, nice medium size place, eat with yr hands for god's sake - wash before and after read more
