Delish! If you're looking for a legit New Zealand meat pie spot, hit this place up! I tried the mince meat and cheese and the mince with crisp mashed potatoes swirled on top. SO good!! The meat was juicy, and the potatoes had the perfect crisp. I also tried the Lamington dessert and loved it. The coconut covered chocolate cake filled with cream melted in my mouth. We had family come from out of town just for the meat pies and with the lovely SLC traffic barely made it before closing. They were so kind and we got the food and goodies just before closing! Family ran establishment. I always feel like my business matters to them. Veteran friendly and partially veteran owned as well. The inside is immaculate and beautiful. Due to Covid, there are understandable restrictions on dining inside. Once this virus passes, I recommend grabbing a meat pie or any number of freshly baked goods, and a koko samoa and chill out on the couch and enjoy the island vibe. The chicken curry meat pie is insanely good. The coconut cake is so light, fluffy and coconutty...and not overly sweet like many places tend to produce. I finally stopped by and bought a steak and cheese hand pie to go. Let me tell you,... I inhaled that thing! This place is a must try! I was in a big hurry but I also grabbed a to go menu in true Fat Man fashion. I read that menu like it was a comic book, and am stoked to return for one of their sweet dessert thing called a Lamington. They're fish n chips looks good as hell too! Tried this for the first time, and was so impressed! We ordered the chicken pot pie, Chicken curry pie, Mince pie, and steak and cheese pie. For each of these, highest marks. The crust is tender and flaky and the filling is moist and flavorful. They warm up well, too. We also got the coconut cake and the chocolate bundt cake with caramel. The coconut cakes was wonderful. Moist, tender, good crumb, real unsweetened coconut. So may coconut cakes are overly sweet. This one was perfect. The chocolate cake was a little bit dry on the outside, but was perfect when eaten with the whipped cream topping and the caramel inside. What a lovely addition to SLC! The staff is super friendly and safe for COVID. The lamingtons were amazing - chocolate or strawberry to choose from and they were so soft, flavorful and delicious. We tried quite a few of the savory menu items and they were all good! The sausage roll was probably my favorite, as it had a good amount of meat with a flaky breading. My least favorite being the Kekepua'a, it was large, but didn't have much filling which was needed to flavor the outer layer. I look forward to trying the plate lunch on my next visit. read more

Yes the food is good but every single time I have went to pick up my order which has been over 10 times, the ppl are always rude, they never greet u, they never thank you, make you wait till they fill like getting up from their chit chat table to actually help u. I'm over trying to help out a small business that acts like their doing me a favor by handing me my paid for food when it's convenient for them. Pretty sad, but I don't think they really care either. I'm done giving them my hard earned money in this difficult economy to only lessen my take out food experience with their lack of customer service and sheer lack of disrespect. Good luck read more

Yes, I finally made it to SAGATO BAKERY! My first impression was, "Wow! The interior decorated lightly to give that "light and airy"feel, the recess lighting, neutral colors accentuate the theme, the beautiful wall mural adds plenty of color, the dining is nicely chosen with sit-down eating for instant gratification of the oh-so-delicious pastries and meat pies, or if you like, comfortable seating on the couch leaning against the wall mural. And, overall, it's VERY CLEAN! The display case was crystal clear to give the customer a clear view on the details of the products before purchasing. I've been looking for something different in SLC, and yelpers suggested this place. The place is clean and simple. I bought the meat pies and their famous roll. The lady was kind enough to warm it up for me even though I was having it to go. She said it taste better and she's right! No L&P here today. The next shipment will not be in for a long while. Having lived in New Zealand and coming in with some Kiwis this is the closest thing to a true meat pie from the motherland. Steak and Cheese is the best followed by the potato topped. Lammingtons are amazing. That is a definite buy. I would avoid getting the pani popo next time. The bread was a little dry. Midvale, UT: I've never had Polynesian food before and if it's all this good, consider me a fan. Mom and I stopped at the bakery while our little one was getting groomed next door. It's a clean, modern location with some truly delicious looking desserts. We ultimately settled on the pani popo (a very fun name to repeat) which only cost us $2.06 for a lovely, fluffy roll and a good amount of a sweet (but not overly sweet) coconut sauce. I've made several visits to this establishment during various times and things have been pretty consistent all around. The meat pies and sausage rolls are savory with a good crust that I am full off of two of either. Their guava cake tastes as expected, nice and moist with a clear guava taste. Their keke pua'a is a nice memory of my favorite manapuas from Hawaii, with a flavorful meat filling and soft bun. The ratio from crust/bun to meat is pretty even to me in all savory items. There are drinks available as well as a number of other sweet desserts that I have yet to try since I'm already full with the 2-3 items I bought! The customer service provided is always pleasant and and I never leave there feeling as if I was a nuisance for coming in. Even if they ran out of items, which happened a couple times I came by, they are apologetic and gives me a real time frame of when I should expect what I ordered. Clean store with a beautiful mural done by a local Polynesian artist. Wheelchair accessible. Parking lot is shared with other establishments in the plaza. While I've waited a while in line just to order a couple times because it was crazy busy, I would definitely come back and have lunch or dinner here or grab some quick items to go! read more

After seeing various posts on social media regarding the meat pies, we decided to taste them for ourselves. The pies were delicious! The crust was nice and flaky as you would hope them to be and the filling savory. We also tried their cream puffs and were not disappointed. The cream was not overly sweet and did not leave an after taste like some do. However, it was a little big for my liking. But did I eat the whole thing, yes I did. I'm surprised by the reviews, so I'll start with the good. The food is done pretty well with decent portions. I'd honestly suggest you focus on that. The establishment is really clean which I appreciated. But, why are there no condiments? No sauces? No Hot sauce? Your food is good and I really would focus on that over the baked side. Sorry, I tried several bakery items and they were not good at all, they were over priced and of grocery store quality. Service, I went when it wasn't too busy and I was brought out the wrong food, it took way to long to fix and in the meantime while my family is eating they tell me they didn't charge me correctly and wanted me to come back up and pay more. Most places accept when they screw up Multiple times, this was in poor taste. I doubt I would return sadly. read more

Being that I am born and raised in NZ I was extremely happy to come to Sagato Bakery for the first time today and it did not disappoint. Of course it ain't no NZ bakery so I don't get why people keep comparing it to NZ pies but they are their own identity. To me their pastries is more American with a NZ twist. In the end it was really good. The workers here have excellent customer service and are very friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Saw an ad somewhere for this place and I've had a serious hankering for a good meat pie since I had them in NZ. I had a mince potato top, a regular mince and a bite of my wife's steak. It did not disappoint! I think it was better than some of the NZ bakeries! The service was a little bit mediocre but other than that everything was great! read more

I don't think I have ever given 5 stars... this place deserves it. AMAZING crust/ pastry with the chicken and minced meat pies. I could not stop eating it once I started. My only issue is I need 5 more of them !!! I also got a cream puff and Lamington cake --- These items are above amazing and words can't even tell you how fabulous this was. The cake was not to sweet some how, it was the perfect amount of sweetness. The cream in both items were whipped to perfection. DEF GO !!! and get 2 pies and 2 desserts, you won't be let down read more
