I love a good brunch spot no matter where I am. I will hunt for a good one and I am so happy we stopped here on a Saturday morning and waited for a table. We ordered the crab benedict and sage skillet and both were fantastic. I love when my spouse and I can order entrees and split them I always think that is a menu win! The crab cakes were thick and the eggs were cooked almost perfectly! One of the yolks was overcooked but still enjoyable. The gravy on the skillet was so yummy... seriously I could have just had the gravy and been VERY satisfied. The only downside to this restaurant is that they share a restroom with several other offices/stores in a complex. I will say the restroom was very unkept and pretty gross when I was in there. My first visit to this restaurant. The wait was about 35 minutes, however, you can get a mango mimosa while you wait. We ordered a Mediterranean skillet and Strawberry stuffed french toast The French toast was divine with just the right amount of cream cheesee and some whip cream on top. The skillet had a great mix of flavors, love the feta cheese and it came with a side of sourdough toast. I will look forward to trying this little spot again when we have more time. We took them home to reheat for dinner. There's enough for both of us to eat potatoes again! Also had 2 mimosas -- a classic and a blackberry. Not skimpy on the champagne. I really liked this place. It had a cute atmosphere with both inside and outside seating offered and fairly priced breakfast items. I felt like it was an elevated diner and the menu reflected that partially. When you pull up you can park in the garage for free. After being seated the waiter was very attentive. I ended up getting the sage biscuit platter for $13.50. It came with a biscuit, 2 eggs cooked how you like, meat of your choosing (standard breakfast options), potatoes and a choice of sourdough french toast or pancakes. I ended up getting bacon and sourdough french toast.Everything i ordered was delicious and cooked well. I really enjoyed sourdough as the bread in french toast as it had a tang and sweetness too it that i've never had before. This was our first visit to the Sage Biscuit. We had seen some reviews that were critical of the service, but we could not have found them more wrong. The service was friendly, quick, and accommodating. The only thing better than the service was the food. I had the veggie hash, which was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. My husband had the Gravy Train. The chicken was juicy and tender and crispy, even with the sausage gravy on it. His potatoes were also seasoned and cooked just right. Even the coffee was great. We are definitely looking forward to going back on a regular basis! The truth about the vegan lifestyle is that it more often than not that vegan options in a non-vegan restaurant will be limited. Sometimes those options are surprisingly good, and sometimes those options just need some recipe tweaks to level-up. Today was a case of the latter. Being relatively new to the area, I've been trying new vegan restaurants in search for the best-of-the-best. While reading online reviews I came across Sage Biscuit Café- Downtown and noticed they had vegan options on their menu. I ordered the Fiesta Bowl with tofu (w/o feta and green onions). It was decent, but didn't have the right level of seasoning to make a good impression. I do think this dish can level-up with just a few tweaks to the recipe and become a crowd favorite. The other observation is that that while the menu does have an above average number of vegan options, many of them didn't seem appetizing to me. I have some suggestions that may be worth considering: 1. Adding beyond meat or impossible burger to the list of burger choices would help increase the selection of vegan proteins. 2. Adding a vegan butter like Earth Balance would provide an option for buttered toast, or even avocado toast 3. Adding quick cook oatmeal as a menu item would provide an additional breakfast/brunch option to grits A couple of other things to know: - Another reviewer has already commented about the Yelp waitlist being active, but not honored, unfortunately, this is true as it happened to me today. So definitely arrive early on the weekends as I was quoted a 30 minute wait time, but it actually only took around 10 mins to be seated. - The seating area near the front entrance was a bit distracting because when the door closes it makes a slamming noise, so consider seating outside or towards the back of the restaurant. Overall, the ambiance in the restaurant was good and the staff was friendly and helpful. I do appreciate that the restaurant has several options to accommodate vegetarians and vegans, so many thanks for providing non-traditional menu entrees. read more

Chicken pot pie crust is a flaky pastry that they put on top so it doesn't get soggy before reaching you. Chicken pot pie is supposed to be warming hearty food that gets to your soul and their version does just that. It comes in a cute little cast iron dish so it arrives hot. The chicken is tender and seasoned with vegetables that are cooked well. Their broth is different than other chicken pot pies that I have had. It is not as cream-like but more savory and still tasty. Tried this place in Bradenton for a mid-morning breakfast, my favorite meal, with the wife. First, concerning our server, will not mention her name, who was clearly less attentive to us than I would've expected. Ordered two coffees, my wife ordered a mocha latte & I an Americano. Took forever to receive our coffees, even with the place only half full of customers. My Americano came black & I asked for some cream, since their was no cream on our table. By the time the cream arrived, my coffee was pretty much cold, as I watched our server stand around & doing other things. Ordered one of their house "Specials" Biscuits & Sausage Gravy with some butter on the side. I wanted two eggs to go with it, but after hearing that EACH egg was $2.50 EACH, I declined the eggs. My wife ordered the crab omelette. Food was brought to us by a separate food runner, NO butter on the side, as I asked for, so the runner went back to get me some. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the crab omelette. I put the butter on my sausage gravy, which had NICE chunks of sausage in the gravy, but the butter did NOT melt & when I took a bite, I KNEW why . . . the gravy & biscuits were too COLD. When our server came near, waiting on another table, I got her attention & told her that my food was cold. She apologized & took it back. Almost immediately, the manager, I think she was a manager though she never identified herself, came over, apologizing & said, I QUOTE, "Sorry about that, it will take a few minutes to 'remake' your order." And it was JUST a FEW minutes later they brought my food out, in a MUCH SHORTER time than it took to make it originally, SO I knew that my order was NOT "REMADE" but thrown into a microwave! To ADD insult to injury, my order came garnished with a slice of strawberry sitting on top of a slice of orange AND the strawberry was MELTED into the slice of orange, STEAMING HOT along with the rest of my Sausage Gravy & Biscuits! Yes, I did eat the food that I ordered, however, I did let our server know that "remaking" an order . . . is NOT reheating it in a microwave! AND that whoever did the reheating did NOT have the common sense to either REMOVE the strawberry & orange garnish BEFORE throwing it in the microwave, or to put a NEW garnish on the plate! Of course, our server asked what or how she could make it up to me, which was nice, however, the manager, should have been the one to hear of the incompetence of her kitchen staff, NOT the server, so I told her it was OK. BTW, the manager NEVER came back to check & see if I was satisfied . . . POOR Customer Service! Yes, my wife tipped the server 20%, AGAINST my wishes, because I DON'T believe in tipping POOR Customer Service. I am NOT one to write bad reviews, however, THIS is EXACTLY WHY, I prefer to cook my own meals & NOT eat out. Rant OFF read more

Great food in search of a great staff. Walked in at 8:30 am to see not a single employee anywhere in sight. Waited at the "please wait to be seated" sign for a few minutes. Patron in front of us grabbed a table as we waited for someone to appear. Finally someone came and told us we could sit wherever we'd like. Our waitress was great and did her job well. Ordered our food which was hot fresh and delicious. However the ambiance is killed as the other waitresses were all hanging out together to socialize in the back, which explains the lack of presence in the front of the house. Then as we're trying to leave one of the loud rude waitresses was talking to her coworker about her kitten and the Vet and literally would have ran us over if we had not stepped out of her way. Etiquette goes a long way in making guest feel welcome in your restaurant. Get the staff to tone it down and the food and menu can be a winner. read more

Another neat breakfast place for the books. Although I am not a huge sage fan, the flavor was just enough to not overpower the biscuit, but still provided a little zest. Good portions for you hungry guys and a nice selection of proteins versus vegan for you little green granolas out there looking for a nice place to get your vegan on. I will say I was a bit confused on a white wine based Bloody Mary, but it too wasnt all that bad. It would never out do the Vodka BM, but a fix when tough to find in a new area. We had to attend a wedding in the Bradenton area and kept seeing reviews for this biscuit place. On the last day before heading out we stopped in on a Sunday morning and ate outside. Granted it was a bit warm and super humid as it was the first of June, but it was a nice change to be out there. The menus is actually pretty extensive without being a novel of items. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and the coffee was really good, although they use small cups for the size of their portions. I had the Sage Biscuit Skillet and gravy on top of it all. Having never been there I wasn't sure how to customize it, but now that I have I might have asked for the biscuits to be on bottom and the the skillet fixings. The potatoes were good but too big. All that to day, it was amazingly good! The biscuits are super light and fluffy and hot. My wife had the half order of biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. Again just perfect. My only regret is not going there multiple times as now I want to explore more of their menu. I am not sure I will get back here but if we do we will be stopping here several times. read more
