    Coconut macaroons
    Frank M.

Purchase two of their huge flatbread and coconut macaroons. Haven't had good macaroons in a long time, these were perfect. The flatbread was a great base for flatbread pizza. I froze the other flatbread for future use. Had to cut it in half because whole it would not fit in the freezer. I highly recommend this bakery.

What a charming baker and delicious baked goods!!! I stopped in and simply couldn't decide what I wanted to try, so I ended up trying lots of things and I'm very glad I did. I do know that people are amazed by the long rectangular bread and of course I picked some up to share with the parents. We decided a white pizza with olive oil , goat cheese , asparagus. Egg plant and some other yummy veggies would be a delightful use of the bread. Now there were a variety of cookies and they were all light crunchy , some were coconut some had pistachio on top. There was even a coffee coco cupcake and outstanding baklava that was very flavorful without being cloyingly sweet and dripping with syrup. Then there were stuffed breads. One that looks like leaves in the shape of a wreath which is stuffed with walnuts, coconut and a fruit compote I think. It was just chewy and yummy. Just perfect for a hot beverage. Then there is a wreath made of buns that are stuffed with Nutella!!! Yup that's what you read, and I need not say more just call the kids. Then there is a very simple round loaf disguising itself as nothing in particular. That is the one from the all the grandmothers in heaven. It's sweet bread. The absolute perfect bread for afternoon tea or breakfast coffee. The kind of bread that makes me want to memorize a thesaurus for words other than delicious or yummy or delightful. I'm so glad I finally stopped driving past this charming bakery and went in and immersed myself in all those delightful breads!!! Do yourself a favor and stop and get a loaf of the round sweet bread if you don't try anything else. But I'm pretty sure once you try that you'll go back for more. Oh on a side note , they don't use any chemicals at all. It's all made from scratch without and fillers or preservatives or things that you can't pronounce!

What a great discovery this was! I wasn't sure what to expect from an Afghan Bakery but I'll tell you what I got, deliciousness! Everything there looked tempting so we left with a few different items. My favorite was the Nutella bread. I'm not a huge sweets person and it had the perfect amount of sweetness in the bread. Bonus, it looked good. My husband really enjoyed the coconut macaroons. The pretzel bread was sort of like a bagel with tons on sesame seeds. It was OK. Then let's not forget their signature flat bread. How could you anyways considering the size. It's HUGE. And a bargain for sure, only $5 for 2 loaves. So far we've used it to make croutons, sliced and toasted, stuffed like a pita, and just pulled off pieces to eat plain. We still have another loaf that we might use to make pizza or whatever else we may come up with. Besides the baked goods being good the owners are super nice. Stop by and meet them. They'll be happy to welcome you in. This place is worthy of my 100th review in 2021! 2021-100

I went for the Taste the World Yelp event, and left with more baked good than I could carry including cardamom cookies and pistachio baklava. The owners told me that they had been opened for 4 months. They were the sweetest and very welcoming. I am such a sucker for anything cardamom and pistachio and that's what I went with when I purchased additional baked goods. The pistachio baklava was decadent and delicious. The cardamom cookies were extremely good. They were light and had excellent flavor that wasn't overpowering in any way. I will definitely be returning to get more goodies and to share with my family.

    Baklava, Sweet Bread and cookies

A friend shared her wonderful finds at this awesome small family owned bakery and I could NOT resist the need to go and check it out. The young man working was very helpful and helped with my selections. They also have a large bread that would be awesome to make flat bread pizza, but we are not big bread eaters. The baklava was a bit dryer than I like ... but it was full of nuts and goodness. Flaky and crumbling but the flavor was good ... just a bit milder than I am used to if that makes sense. The cookies ... they were chocolate and coconut ... very tasty ..again a bit dryer than I would like ...but great tasting and light The sweet bread is phenomenal I made a pot of chili on one of those rainy evenings and this complemented quite well. It is hard enough to not fall apart but soft enough to enjoy. The flavors of all items were wonderful I will definitely keep them on the list to go again.

Whole wheat Barbari bread. 2 massive pieces freshly baked come in a bag for $5
    Rachel B.

Wow WOW WOOOOOOW. I NEED TO GO BACK ALREADY... I am already basically done the Barbari bread I bought this morning! Sahar is a new local bakery located on Sheridan churning out fresh baked breads and sweets everyday. They do not have a ton of items but it's absolutely perfect that way! Doing what they do well! From sweet breads to cookies, to the infamous Barbari which is a long flat bread that can come in regular or whole wheat. It smelled amazing when I walked in, super clean, and was greeted with a warm and friendly smile. I ended up purchasing a whole wheat Barbari which is legitimately half my height long! 2 come in a bag for only $5 and you can get the sweet loafs for about $6. When I was there they had sold out of the Nutella filled buns, but still had some walnut and apple filled ones. I tasted a little in the car home and almost ate the whole thing! Was delicious with some spicy pepper sauce and I can only imagine how it will be with jams, spreads, hummus, or as a sandwich! The options are endless and indeed I will be back for more of this!

Ok "Yelpies", I can't say enough about this place. I LOVE this bakery !! This was my 2nd stop on my Taste of the World tour. First off, don't pass it. It's set back & the sign is small. It's in a little white plaza on Sheridan. (I passed it, lol) You walk in & it's a tiny , little bakery, but OMG, don't let the size fool you, because the homemade, daily freshly baked goods are AMAZING !! I wanted to but everything. The 2 women (mom & daughter) do it all and are as sweet and helpful as can be. They told us what everything is made from, all ingredients, what it tastes good with, and you may try certain things to see if u want to buy it. Well, I bought a lot & for only $30. Try going to another bakery & spending that little !! Not happening! The breads & cookies are SO delicious, I can't even explain it. They carry 2 things I would love to have bought, but we're out, but I was able to try the delightful, date rolls/cookies ?? (Sorry, I forgot) They gave me so much knowledge about so much, my brain dropped some of it on the way out. Lol I am soooooo going back there again. I bought : 2 (surfboard breads) idr what they're actually called, but they referred to them as those & I called them skateboard breads. $5.00 total Container of coconut cookies $5.00 Round Sweet Bread ? (I forgot all the names) $5.00 The Apple,Walnut bread that looks twirly $10.00 And the last container of Baklava they had in the store today. $5.00 I highly recommend this wonderful bakery & have a long chat with the wonderful women who own/run the place. Sweet as can be & very helpful. You will want to buy stuff so , bring your $$. Thank you YELP, SAHAR & ALEX for this amazing experience!!

We loved this stop on our Taste of the World day trip- this was our 5th stop! The person who helped us was a daughter of the owners, bright and friendly... she took time to tell us the family's story which was fascinating, she gave us a sweet bread to try which was delicious... then we asked about the many cookies that were in display and she showed us to Taste them... well, then of course they were light, crisp, sweet bites of nirvana! Then we were shown an enormous bread and given a little history of the neighborhood bakeries back in her homeland of Afghanistan... of course we had to buy and try! Great experience! Go here, buy their cookies and bread, you'll be so glad you did!

Went for an event and decided to ordered some extra things that were very yummy while sampling. I ordered the Barbari ($2.50/loaf) which tastes like something would be great with jam spread over it. It's kinda of hard to describe it fully, but highly recommend ordering some. I think I'll try it with a little garlic and oil. I also ordered this very delicious strawberry cookies ($5) which I didn't remember the name of, but trust me you want to eat these. Just ask for the Strawberry cookies! The staff were friendly and very welcoming and I'll definitely be returning to try some of the other cookies and breads.

Wow, what a wonderful little shop located on Sheridan between the Blvd and Parker. We met the mother and daughter owners/ bakers They were sweet as can be and so informative about the bakery culture in Afghanistan and how the breads are made with simple ingredients and no preservatives. We ended up purchasing two barbari breads for $5 and one apple walnut bread for $10. We cannot wait to go home and try them. I plan on making the barbari bread into a fun appetizer with various toppings this weekend for a family party. We will be back for sure!

We liked the roth bread so much when we went as part of the Taste the World experience that we stopped in to buy another loaf.

Our taster package. Flat bread in the back, the roth just in fromt of it.
    Frans D.

A little bread gem on Sheridan Drive. Thanks to Taste the World we made this great discovery. Barbari Afghan flatbread (great for dipping too), Roth nice and sweet bread (almost like a cake) and a variety of cookies. The owner, Rosia (I hope I got her name right), was sooo friendly and sooo happy to tell us all about her bread and cookies, about her plans for expanding the menu (kebabs). She gave us a box full of tasters. Cookies with walnut (sweet and salty), coconut and with pistachios. We told her about the new sitcom "United States of Al", where the main character is an Afghan interpreter always on the hunt to find Roth. I guess we have to tell him where to go. The bakery is not that visible (yet). It is right next to the shoe repair place, across the street from Sherman Williams.

This amazing bakery is very easy to miss as it is in one of many strip malls along Sheridan. If you happen to come across this bakery on Yelp, don't miss out, stop in! The owners son was working when I stopped in and he was very friendly and eager to answer my questions. I sampled the coconut cookies abs knew those were coming home with me! They are so much better than the ones I'm accustomed to that everyone makes around Christmas time. I brought them to work the next day and they were gone instantly, my co-workers all raved about them. I also picked up the sweet bread. He described it as similar to cornbread but a little more dense which we all thought was an accurate description. It would be a perfect accompaniment to tea or even coffee if you prefer. This was also a hit as we've eaten over half of it during the first few hours of our shift. Looking forward to getting more coconut cookies as well as trying the Nutella stuffed bread!

The almond square reminded me a bit of an almond ring, with almond paste filling layered inside a flaky, tender, buttery pastry. It had that rich almond flavor without being overly sweet, and the texture was spot on. The pistachio snack cake was soft, moist, and delicately nutty--simple but really satisfying. Almost teacake-like. The cranberry orange scone brought a nice contrast with bright citrus flavor and tart cranberries throughout. It had a great crumb and just the right balance of sweetness and tang. Loved the dried orange pieces. Everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully made. Definitely a spot worth stopping by if you're in the mood for excellent pastries!

When asked about ownership of the Google page, I was told, "We've asked them 100 times to take that down & they won't." Doing what I do for my FT job, I know how these things work & that's not it. As for our tasting, we ordered a slice of cassata, a tiramisu tower, a pecan bar & a peanut butter bar. The almond flavor of the cassata cake layers was AMAZING, but that's where the pleasure stopped. For the rest of our experience. The cassata frosting was not whipped cream & instead quite hard and unpalatable (like Crisco was used). The tiramisu tower didn't have any coffee flavor in it. The Pecan bar was loaded with pecans, but the filling was unflavored goop. The peanut butter bar was like eating sand. There were no restrooms that appeared to be available for hand washing. All in all, with a cup of coffee, I'm glad it was only $24. On to the next bakery to find a suitable cassata cake for my mom's Big Birthday next year.
