First review of 2025 goes to Sahara Bistro! Got takeout and our hostess was top notch. She was warm and inviting, and patiently answered all of our questions. I got the Sahara Gyro, which comes with a mix of beef, lamb, and chicken shwarma. My husband got the regular gyro, and we got an appetizer of garlic fries to share. She let us know that the garlic fries were an order of fries surrounding a big dollop of garlic sauce in the middle, which was perfect for us as we love garlic sauce. Got home and everything was delicious! The pita was warm, we got a lot of meat, and it was balanced out with greens. Our kids ate the entire thing of fries and loved dipping them in the garlic sauce. 10/10!

It's my second time dining in Sahara Bistro and I am even more impressed than before. The place is spacious, clean & tastefully decorated and the food is simply delicious. From truly tangy garlic sauce and warm pita wedges served as an appetizer, through the crispy, spicy & savory fries to the incredibly flavorful gyros, our meal was a delight! A winner in the Mediterranean food category in Grand Rapids for sure. We will definitely be back for more.

I came across Sahara Bistro on Yelp when I was looking to grab a quick (but satisfying) lunch before departing town. I have family in the area, but had never happened across it before, and I have to say it was a great experience. It's located in an unassuming strip mall, but the service and attention to detail really showed. The lunch specials were an amazing deal, and I was offered some pita and toum to start which was truly excellent. I got the Chicken Shawarma plate with a beautiful side salad and flavorful rice (featuring almonds, sumac, the whole works), along with plenty of pickles and meat. It was probably more than I needed in all honesty, but I hesitated to leave any delicious bite behind. I definitely look forward to checking out Sahara Bistro again on my next visit.

Wonderful dinner with my sister! He set up the chairs outside for us on this beautiful spring day. We split garlic spread, tabouli and gyro with fresh mint lemonade. The pita, individually wrapped, very fresh!

The food was great specially the garlic dip and house salad, falafel plate was just okay, not a fan of it. We are vegans and felt there were really limited options, would be nice to have some more options or if they can make something vegan. Service was quick and good ambience.

A hidden gem! This spot has been several different restaurants throughout the years, but I hope this one is here to stay! We were greeted immediately upon entering and brought right to a table. The entire place was very clean and service was prompt throughout. I was pleasantly surprised by the complimentary pita and garlic dip! The fried pickles and accompanying dip were a delicious way to start off the meal- perfectly crispy and seasoned. The vegetarian combo for 1 was chef's kiss, and my stepdad loved his chicken shawarma with baba ghanouj. Food also came out quickly, which was appreciated! This would also be a great takeout spot!

AMAZING MED FOOD. I love trying new med food and this is BY FAR the best place I've ever been to. Appreciate the service and attention to detail. They do not miss. A must if you're in the area.

Decided to drive out here for dinner on a Friday night. We were seated right away. The decor is adorable and trendy. Service was amazing. Everyone was so friendly and kind. The food is unbelievable! My friend and I were blown away! I had the gyro plate with hummus and she had the chicken shawarma with baba ganoush. We were served pita with toum to start. I only got a picture of my food but portions were nice and big. I loved the flavor of the rice and it was great to mix it with e veggies, meat, and sauce in a bite. The tzatziki and chicken shawarma and probably the best I've ever had. Definitely try this place out! We'll be back soon!

Our host was super kind, helpful with the menu and had a sense of humor. Grape leaves - I believe it was cold if I remember, and it's a softer/mushy texture. The host called it "Turkish Sushi." It was good and different! Appetizers- phenomenal. Fresh, hot, flavorful. We had cheese served on a hot stone, it was beautiful. Nothing was over or under seasoned. Everything was cooked perfectly. Nice fry, nice bake, nice sizzles. Salmon was cooked just right. Calamari was fried great and had a good crunch. Feta borek reminded me of crab cheese ragoons. I love the way it's prepared though, even bites and good flaky crunch. The shell is light and wasn't greasy. Baklava was delicious. Rice pudding was delicious. Drinks were on point. 10/10 will be back again!

Zeytin serves authentic Turkish cuisine along with other middle eastern and American food. A table favourite was the Pepper Delight. Basically, chopped red and green peppers combined with walnuts and tomato. I highly recommend both the Rice pudding and the Fried calamari. Nice big plate I had almost all to myself. The service was friendly and somewhat attentive. My friend, Darius, ordered the Chicken shish kebab and the pita was dry, cold and stale. They immediately returned with fresh, hot, moist bread. The wait for the initial order and drink refills was a bit longer. The dining area is large, yet cozy. The eatery has a very embracing, warm ambiance and it's a great gluten-free zone. The guy that suggested we stop here eats vegan. 01/26

I have noticed that over the past year, this stand has changed at least once, but it's always been a Mediterranean type of casual spot where they make your food in front of you. I wanted a salad recently and saw they had a kale salad on their menu at Damascus. The menu board said it was $5 for a "regular" and $8 for the larger size. I ordered the regular kale salad and asked to add gyro meat. When the order rang up, it came to $15 after tip! I was a little shocked but didn't say anything since I didn't know if maybe he misheard me or the prices weren't correct. Either way, it was a little shocking and I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought he'd make the salad right there, but someone in the back brought out a bag to me. It felt heavy! I opened up the container and had to laugh - it was a massive portion of gyro meat completely covering up the small salad! I did get my money's worth, but it wasn't quite what I was expecting. Either way, the salad itself was delicious. Honestly it was too much meat, even for me (a meat lover), and some of it was a bit dry. I know my coworkers enjoy the bowls at this spot (but they have also mentioned how the price can vary wildly for them) so I may try one of those next time I'm in the mood for something a little healthier.

We were instantly greeted and everyone was very friendly. The menu is kinda intimidating with so many options and everything having unique names. The staff said they'd help us walk through it all, which was helpful. There are literally 26 different things you can add to your order. My wife ordered a bowl and I order a pita, which they call a "sandweech" for some reason. The portions were large but it somehow got pretty pricey, even though I felt their menu was very reasonable. We each added a fountain drink and then I asked for a side of garlic, assuming it would come with a bunch of pita bread to dip. They asked if we wanted chips or pita, and we said pita. We got 1 piece of pita to share and basically a tub of garlic. It was comical and disappointing. I'm not sure if this is normal or we needed to pay for more pita. We each had half of a pita to dip in a jug of garlic. Overall, the food seemed fresh and it tasted great. The dining area was very clean and the parking was simple. Our only complaint was the side not coming with more pita. After looking at the menu from our table, I realized they could have made ours both a combo, since we ordered drinks and one side, and we could get another side as well, but they never suggested that. We'd probably come back in the future but there are a ton of pita places around town, especially locally owned options.

They'd only been open for a week or two, but the service was smooth and friendly. There is some space to dine in but if you have a large group it might be best to take it to go. The menu is simple yet kind of overwhelming as many things are customizable. They have bowls, wraps, quesopitas, sides, salads, and soups. You can make any of the entrees into a combo for an additional $5, which gets you a drink and a side. I went with the fattoush salad with dark meat chicken and feta, and Nate got the "sandweech" (wrap) combo with gyro meat. It was a bit tough to order as it was really loud in there with a lot of beeping/alarms going off and a lot of people talking all at once, so be aware if you are hard of hearing because I think that would be really difficult. However, the employees were all friendly and helpful with suggestions. I was asked some questions I didn't really know the answers to like if I wanted oil on my salad (after the dressing had been added)... so I just asked what the recommendation was. The food is prepared in front of you and everything seemed fresh. I was impressed by the size of the salad - we definitely could have split it. The chicken was juicy and seasoned well, and I loved the crunchy pita. Nate's gyro sandweech was also delicious, with plenty of sauce and tender meat. But the star of the show for me was the hummus and pita. This is the best hummus I've ever had in my entire life. It was SO creamy and flavorful. I could eat the entire container by myself. The pita was crispy and perfect to dip. They have some weekly specials that I'm interested in checking out (like Tuesdays when you can get two Dearborn sandwiches for only $10). You can order online ahead of time and they have a rewards program. I'm already looking forward to my next visit and more of that hummus!
