Sahm's remains an old reliable ... while some places are touting their "Nouveau Indiana" cuisine, you can count on Sahm's to crank out well-executed classics. Their frying technique is superb, delivering a light but crisp coating around a moist morsel ... and if that morsel happens to be a mushroom dipped in horseradish sauce, then lucky you! My side of breaded mushrooms could be a meal all on their own. My husband's surf and turf (two petite filets cooked as he requested, topped with a bearnaise sauce with big lumps of real crab, and four fried shrimp) along with a salad, veg and buttery brown bread ... was a steal at $17! Service is friendly and attentive, drinks were never less than half full. Our waitress even asked if we wanted cups of water or iced tea "to go" when she brought boxes for our leftovers. We've ordered take out from Sahm's several times and it's always been yummy. Saturday night I was beat and wanted a low key place for a burger and drink. I've always loved their burgers, so we dined in for the first time. We opted for the bar area, which was dimly lit and quiet which is exactly what I wanted. Our drink orders were taken immediately. They seem to have a decent selection of beer on tap and a small selection of mixed drinks. The Pineapple Express was delicious, if a bit small for the price, $7. The house made pineapple vodka was excellent. It did seem to take a while to get our food even though there were only 5 people total in the bar. BUT, my burger as usual was fabulous. The fries are to die for, similar to Penn Station but better. My husband's chicken sandwich had two chicken breast, which is unheard of. We devoured every last bite. With my drink and hubby's beer, everything came to $35 including tip. Not bad, fairly comparable to other places nearby. Service was decent considering we sat in the bar. This has been a go-to for my hubster and I since 1986 when they opened and were located on the corner across the street. Sometimes we don't like change and I have to admit I liked the original the best but won't be copied again. It quickly became a "Cheers" place for many people local and those that worked close by. The food and cocktails have always been great pub food. I'm not sure why I haven't ever reviewed them. Ed Sahm has now opened a handful of offshoots. Do know that they have different menu items and rather different atmospheres. They are not cookie cutters. When the restaurant relocated to it's current place, it has more of a restaurant feel than a pub but still casual & comfortable. Anytime you go, you will find faithful local people that have enjoyed their offerings for many years. (I'm saying a lot of older folks) Some of our favs: Fried chicken dinner, OR, fried mushrooms and cauliflower, and of course with any pub everything fried is great! --spinach melt, all their sides & there are many, including pasta salad, & fruit to pork rinds! All salads are always fresh cold and crisp. Their cocktails are great and they are one of the few places in town that make fresh excellent iced tea. I used to bring my family into Sahms once a week. We haven't visited Sahms in several months. Service and food quality had been inconsistent. The burgers used to be amazing. It appears they have changed their supplier and it is no longer worthy of recommending. My kids were really disappointed. The burgers are definitely not the same. I had the salmon which was average but their rice is similar to something they serve in the cafeteria at my daughter's school. Their quality of their salads never leave me satisfied so I opted for the steamed carrots with my salmon. Mehhh! We will go to Chatham Tap next time. read more

Very happy with Sahm's. It was somewhere nice that I could take my mom and my aunt from out of town. I see a lot of people are complaining about the dark atmosphere... but I'm not totally sure why. Yeah, it was dark but plenty of light was provided to both enjoy the company with me and also my dinner. The service was great. Not much of a wait for our meals even though they were pretty busy at the time. I had the Smoking Goose melt with fries. Delicious sandwich and the fries were tasty! Sahm's on 96th street is great but our experience with the one on Allisonville leaves a lot to be desired. We are empty nesters and normally sit in the bar since it is child free. The bar on 96th is fast and friendly service. We went to the Allisonville location and felt like we were putting them out. We stop in and tell the bartender that we just want to place a to go order and will have a beer while we wait. She brings us the beer and then goes away for 15 minutes. Once I catch her eye she says "OH! Did you want a menu?". No, we just want to sit here and telepathically send you our order. Better still , she goes away for another 15 minutes. Finally come back and is ready to take our order - REALLY? 30 minutes before to take our to go order - her comment - "Well that table behind you has been waiting 45 minutes for their food!!". Do you think that makes it ok? We pay for our drinks and leave. Phone an order to 96th street. Cheerful young man says - "I will have your order ready in 10 minutes". We arrive and Doug is there with a cheerful hello and goes to get our food. This isn't the first time we have experienced this with the Allisonville road Sahm's. This was our first time as we are new to Fishers and it was by far, hands down a great meal with great service! My husband got spaghetti and meatballs and I got the wings. He loved his dish and the wings were a buffalo fried wing with a perfect crunch and not drenched in sauce accompanied by a very tasty ranch dressing. We will be returning. I came here on a friday lunch break with co-workers. We had intended on going to the 96th st location, but my friend only knew of this location. The food was good. Not a lot of vegetarian options, but what options there were, are good. Really, i am only giving it 3 stars for the lack of vegetarian choices and kind of a stupid reason. Again, the food was pretty good. When we got there, there was a wait. It happens. No big deal. But...the WHOLE restaurant was filled with the retiree crowd. It's stupid because..why should that matter? To be honest, it's just no fun to be the only people in the restaurant under the age of 40. you have to watch your mouth and there's just that hum of a different generation of people. Try Sahm's. We have been customers of Sahms Fishers for over 20 years. We made reservations for a party of six and when we arrived Sahms obviously had made no preparations for our party. After waiting 20minutes and three requests from the manager for a bar sitting, I gave in and said OK. What a mistake. We were huddled into this run down dirty bar alcove, not at all appropriate for our party which included two pre teens. The food was OK (my ribs tasted a bit stale/out of date) but the ambience really killed the day. I am sure we will return (my wife likes this place), but my opinion of this place is pretty low! I too had heard of and seen Sahm's for some time before I finally had a chance to eat there. Now, in the last year we've probably been there 6 times and we're heading there again tonight. The service is great, the food is wonderful and whether you are with a group of just the two of you, you feel like you are special. The atmosphere is relaxed and cozy. I recommend the ribs, the reuben (which I get without bread since I'm a GF'er) and the baked potato. My family highly recommends the tenderloin and they ALWAYS get the breaded mushrooms. On a fairly busy Thursday night we were seated quickly. Our friendly server greeted us soon and took our drink order. The atmosphere was upbeat and the place is clean ! We had heard good things about Sahms from friends and we're hungry and exited to give it a try. A quick glance at tables on the way to ours we noticed a big variety of tasty looking dishes. We both settled in on the NY strip Pittsburgh style, served on a sizzling platter . Both our steaks were cooked perfect and tasty. You get two sides and a small loaf of delicious brown bread was served with my soup and the Mrs salad. You have to try the onion rings, thin and crispy the were great. I love Sahm's. I have been going for many years and used to get "The Unsinkable" consistently as my 'go to' dinner. I don't think it is on the menu any longer. One thing you can say about Sahm's is that it is almost always busy! The last time we were there it was incredibly busy and there were servers flying around like mad men, which doesn't create a relaxed atmosphere when dining. However, our server was very knowledgeable about the dinner specials and kept our drinks full. I had a pasta special that was very tasty and you simply can't beat Grace's coffee cake for a little post-meal sweet tooth satisfaction. We have been here a couple times now. We always sit at the bar and the service and food have always been excellent. I am pretty particular about both food and service and Sahm's is great in my book. NY Strip steak cooked Pittsburgh style is excellent! The corn bread is more like a dessert ... So sweet and soooooooo good. The salads and fried chicken are first class as well. My first impression of this place was negative. I think the hostess was more focused on reading her book than helping people get seated. She had a condescending tone and was not very punctual in helping my family. The food was subpar. I think the broccoli cheddar soup was made with nacho cheese. It just had an off flavor. I ordered the chicken avocado which said it came with avocado slices and an avocado salsa. The avocado was in chunks and it was just a cowboy caviar mix on top of a dry, tasteless piece of chicken. I ate 1/4 of it and left the rest on my plate while my family ate. The waitress never asked if it was okay or seemed concerned, but she also rarely came by our table. My grandma enjoyed her shrimp stir fry and it was a generous helping of food, light on the shrimps though. If I go back I might try that. The best part of my meal was the bread and the sour cream coffee cake. The bread is similar to Outback Steakhouse and the coffee cake has a delicious powder sugar coating on it. read more

Filet cooked Philadelphia style rivals Ruth Chris which I consider the Gold Standard of steaks and sides. Great service. my son in law had top Sirloin....he raved. daughter had a BLT and loved it. try the coffee cake for desert. What more can I say. Bad reviews are awful. I don't like writing them and I'm sure the restaurant doesn't like to read them. But..... First I ordered a basil vodka grapefruit drink that was so watery I had to send it back. I never send a drink back!! Then, I got the seafood pasta and the noodles looked just like Campbell's chicken noodle soup. This is NOT a compliment. It even had the little square carrots in it. Strange, but the worst was that the mussels were raw, yes raw. Two of the nine were edible. The waiter did get me a new drink upon my request and offered a new dinner but I declined. Food is decent American fare. Rarely have had an issue with the food. Clam chowder is exceptional. Turkey Reubens very good. Warning: The owner/manager and his sister both work in the bar area and they are about as personality-free as you can get, and sometimes brain dead and inattentive. This used to be one of my family's favorite places to eat. The bar manager Jordan has become rude to the point ruining the dining experience. My wife and I actually got up and left last week after waiting 5 minutes to not even get our drink order taken. He was busy talking with off duty employees as usual. It doesn't make sense we usually tip 30%. I experienced this same behavior with the day bartender in the past so I stopped coming in before 4. Her attitude was a little different though, simply ignore and deal with her regulars. During the past visits we have dealt with Jordan ignoring us completely when we speak to him and going outside with people from the bar, then coming back in with a better attitude only to lose it five minutes later. Not sure whats going on there but it sucks to lose such a great watering hole. Guess we will go to the stacked pickle because Sahm's website doesn't even have a contact section, looks like they know there are problems and don't want to hear about them. read more

I like Sahm's. I am a semi regular(maybe 10-15 times a year). Overall i recommend it. Service has been mostly good, with one exceptionally bad experience. i dont think that waitress works there anymore. The thing about the food at Sahm's is that it tends to be really good or terrible. I can tell you most of the good things and a few stinkers. THE GOOD Their tenderloin, chicken sandwich, nachos (tostada style), french fries in general, most of their burgers, the french dip sandwich, the fried mushrooms and their coffee cake are all very good. The buns on their sandwiches are excellent. Their Wings can contend for best in town(including Indy)... with one caveat, I would order them whit the wing sauces on the side, they sauce them at the end, causing a goopy set of wings. THE BAD Personally, I would stay away from their pasta dishes, the meatloaf, and anything that has the word "meatball" in it. Ambiance is casual, again if a fairly quick, good meal to eat is what you would are looking for I would stop here. read more

Peaked in the almost empty bar to see if my mom and I could seat ourselves and having the server who was rolling silver at the opposite end just barely acknowledge that I even standing there was also not welcoming. Actually walking over and talking to us would have been a much better first impression. But was just told "yes." Had to grab our own silverware and menus and found a seat. Food was good. Server was below average. Made classic service mistakes, like NEVER refilling my water and dropping then check before offering anything else. I was going to get a piece of coffee cake, but guess not since he decided we were done and needed our bill. And maybe the broom that was left in the center of the dining room (at the next table and the whole of our visit) was for us to clean up after ourselves, sorry we didn't do the dishes. read more

The food was not great, french fries that were limp, crab cakes that had an odd flavoring and were also kind of limp and like none I've ever seen before but the real disaster is the lack of cleanliness. The place was filthy. The restroom stalls had cobwebs all round the tops and hanging from the ceiling. The floors, toilets and sink were also a disgrace. The main dining area had food all over the floors. The lack of hygiene leaves me hoping I don't end up with food poisoning or worse. First I will say we liked the food. There were five of us, one a child, ordering different things and all the items were tasty. And each order was correct when delivered. My problem, this visit, was with the service. First, the young woman at the front desk was snooty about our not having a reservation. I'd never have thought of reserving for a lunch on a weekday. We didn't mind waiting as we needed table seating instead of being smashed into a booth. Her attitude was off-putting. Our waitress seemed to be in a foul mood. She was brusk and abrupt. I asked for two ice cubes in my tea. She brought me a glass of tea full of ice amd tea and a second glass of ice. I should have said no ice. When she brought out the food, she lowered it to where it should go but didn't say excuse me. Each time she came to the table she was short in her exchanges. She never asked if we wanted more to drink. She didn't ask if we wanted dessert. We are a cheerful group of older women who enjoy our dinners out together once a month. I can tell you this waitress did not receive the tip equal to the cost of the meal. She has no one to blame but herself. Will this keep us from eating at Sahm's again? Have eaten here several times. They have huge portions so do not over order. I usually get a quesadilla and fries or a sandwich.
