I've been going to Sahm's for twenty years, since this location was on the other side of Allisonville. Consistent experience, nothing fancy in either the food or service. Just always get what you expect. Here on this trip specifically to scratch the tenderloin itch, and it did not disappoint. Sahm's doesn't serve hubcap-sized cuts, but you end up wasting some of those at other spots. Here it is lightly breaded and flavorful, and pairs nicely with onion rings. No prob getting it just like it should be, pickles, onions, and mayo. Only Miracle Whip would make it better! read more

We visited this one recently while in the area for an appointment, and area I typically avoid because the traffic is just so...frustrating. :) Sahm's is always above average, but I'm not quite sure they ever QUITE reach the stellar point (at least in any of our visits) Breaded tenderloins are fantastic. That's one thing they do VERY well in deed. Everything else (and I've had several dishes from various Sahm's locations) has been above average, yet it just doesn't seem the reach the 5 star range. The poutine with pulled pork is FANTASTIC! & if your celiac they have really good sandwiches that you can substitute for gluten free bread, HIGHLY recommend the Classic cheeseburger and the Malibu melt. I've heard of Sahm's Restaurant from a number of people and haven't ever taken the opportunity to drive to the far north side from the south side and give it a try. Yesterday I was up in Fisher's for an appointment and the client recommended we head to Sahm's. I thought that was a great idea. As I was reviewing the menu my client said if you're the type of person who has to try the pork tenderloin sandwich everywhere you go because you're looking for the best in Indiana, it's what I should order. So, I did. The sandwich also came with my choice of side item, which I hadn't thought about. I was originally going to go with the seasoned fries but then noticed they had breaded and fried mushrooms. Everything came out and didn't disappoint in the slightest. The tenderloin was thicker than most and the breading was a very light and flaky crust that was just slightly salted. The bun/roll it came on tasted it like it was fresh out of the oven and was super soft and delicious as well. The breaded mushrooms matched with the sandwich very well. They came with a side of creamy horseradish deeping sauce that was a perfect complement. My only regret is that I would have loved to have spread the horseradish onto the tenderloin sandwich, but the bun already had mayonnaise on it, so that would have been too much. There was much to be said about the coffee cake, but I was too full to enjoy any for myself, so I'll have to make that wait until next time. And there will be a next time, Oh yes! Went to Sahms during the Northside Nights promotion. The inside of the restaurant was very nice. House made bread accompanied our salads and it was delicious. My wife had the salmon and I had filet tournedos. We were both very impressed with the meal and service. We will definitely be back. read more

An ok spot. Comfortable seating, lots of booths, attentive service. The food was decent - the menu is very large, with lots of variety, and the portions are huge. I had the chicken fettuccine, which had both regular and spinach noodles, lots of tender chicken, diced tomatoes, mushrooms, and broccoli in a Parmesan sauce. There were walnut halves in there too, which was a little weird. The fish and chips looked ok - as others have mentioned, the fish pieces were almost perfectly rectangular, making me suspect that they came from a frozen bag. The fact that there are 24 different side dishes also makes me suspect that most are not made-to-order fresh. But the hot vegetable of the day (today was sauteed zucchini and summer squash) was fresh and delicious. The club sandwich looked really good and I would get that next time if I return. read more

Sahm's has average food. Tried wings, snapper, gyro, soup, and a couple different apps and none impressed beyond what is easy to cook to in my own kitchen. The wings where cooked well but bad tasting sauces makes bad wings. The snapper was seasoned well, cooked well, but the rice bed was flavorless and to oily. Soup was the best part of the meal and that is a shame. Service was subpar. Drinks where not kept up but our waitress was very polite. Won't be coming back. A small comfort things, the restaurant was rather chilly and the bench cushions need replaced. read more

4 of us had dinner at Sahm's tonight ( we've been going there for years) & the food was all excellent & the service was great. Camille was our server & she was very personable & efficient & good sense of humor. She was responsive to our requests, remembered everything we ordered & special requests. Recommend you hold onto Camille, she is an assest to your business. All of our meals were primo, tenderloin, tempura shrimp, shrimp scampi, breaded mushrooms, chicken velvet soup. This is hands down the best place for fish and chips near indy. We stopped in after desperately searching for a local fish and chip spot and were not disappointing. The fries were crispy and not at all burnt, and the fish was prepared perfectly. Light crispy batter that was not greasy at all. I also had the Tenderloin sandwich, as it came highly recommended and was very much satisfied. This had the be the best REAL pork Tenderloin I've had in the state so far. Pounds thin and very well seasoned, with a breading half beer batter style and half traditional. We finished off with a piece of the.. "famous" coffee cake. It was just kinda ok, as it just didn't stand on its own as a dessert. It would be excellent if served with a small coffee. We will definitely be back! read more

Sahm's is in our regular rotation because of the friendly service and solid food. I'd describe the food as comfort food. Some items that stand out are the soups, wings, burgers, salads, and fried chicken. The dinner salads are huge and come with a piece of cake, don't know why, don't care. More restaurants should serve cake as a side. Sahm's also mixes things up with daily specials. There can be a wait during peak dinner hours on Friday and Saturday, but it's not usually too long. read more

We kept hearing good things about Sahm's from coworkers, so my husband and I decided to try out their Northside Nights two for $40 menu, which included an appetizer to share, two salads, two entrees, and a dessert to share. We probably should have known what we were in for when we walked in and noticed we were the only people under 75 in the restaurant. The food was okay. Stuffed mushroom caps as our appetizer tasted good, but presentation was really lacking. Salads were pretty standard stuff. The entrees were what disappointed us. Most of our plates were filled with steamed baby carrots, which tasted just like you'd expect steamed baby carrots to taste. My fried shrimp was pretty good, but with only four pieces, it really made it clear that those carrots were there to take up space. My husband had filet medallions that he said were average tasting, but cooked well, at least. The only great part was the peanut butter pie at the end. That was awesome. Overall, the food quality reminded me of a cafeteria, like MCL. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. Ambience was nice--dim lighting, separate bar, plenty of room and privacy between tables. Really large menu... But I don't know that that's necessarily an asset. That may be why a lot of the food tasted like it had been pulled from the freezer. I doubt we will be back. read more

I would like to give a shout out to the Sahm's Restaurant in Fishers at 116th and Allisonville Rd. Our family has been coming her for many years because the food is delicious! I needed to take a meal to a family that just brought their newborn home from the hospital so I decided to order the chicken, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and a coffee cake. I immediately received a message from the family saying the food was amazing. Sahms has your safety in mind as you will call ahead, they bring your food to you in a safe manner and when you get out of your car to sign your receipt, they go back inside and you place your receipt in a vessel with a wooden block so it will not blow away. We really like all of the Sahm locations but this one is our favorite. The decor is a little on the darker side, with lots of dark wood and dark stone. The seating is mostly booths with some half booths and just a few tables. I don't think we've ever had any food item that we didn't like but there are some favorites. They have a very good tenderloin sandwich, especially if you get one that isn't overly flattened. (ask for this). The Alaskan clam chowder (white) is very good. We like both the Taco Salad (ask for sour cream), and the Sicilian Salad. If we are meeting for lunch or dinner in the Fishers area this is usually one of the places we suggest. read more

I am not sure how we have never been to Sahms's. I feel like it's been around forever and we always say we will go and never do, but that was remedied by Tenderloin Tuesday! They had a buy one get one half off for this Hamilton Cty summer event. It's a summer thing and tenderloin are a huge Indiana tradition. We were starved when we got there. We got an order of cheese curds and they were really good. I loved we got to pick the 2 sauces we got, but it was hard to narrow it down. I love sauces and was happy that our waiter helped with suggestions! The cheese curds were some of the best I have had in a long time. I went with a grilled tenderloin and my husband got the breaded one. I liked mine, it was juicy and flavorful. This was my first not breaded one and I thought I would miss the breading and didn't at all! I also went with the Clam Chowder as my side. It was good, but not the best I had ever had. I really enjoyed our waiter and the pace of our meal with so many courses was perfect. We need to go back for sure. I am still thinking of those cheese curds! read more

My wife and I have been a patron at this location for over 2 years and decided to finally write a review. First the prices are very competitive and quality of food is just as competitive. The service is and has bedN aBove average every time we visit. We have never , not once had anything but exceptional food and the experience is so consistent. I would recommend the sour cream coffee cake, bone in buffalo wings, stuffed mushrooms or nachoS for an appetizers. Entrees - you will not go wrong with ANY item on the Daily Special or menu - literally we have tried steak, chicken, seafood, pasta aNd so many other menu items ( burgers, club sandwich) it is always exceptional. Sahm's has and will be our go to restaurant when we can't decide. Just over a year ago, we moved up to Fishers in the neighborhood of Sahm's. Before we'd even tried it, I had recommended it on the basis of the menu (and my love of The Roost) to my father for a quick dinner. We finally tried it a few months ago and have been back several times, and we have yet to have anything less than a very good experience. As my wife says, it's the place to go when no one wants to cook but no one can agree on what kind of food we want to get. The menu is typical expansive American family-friendly, with everything from steaks and ribs to mac & cheese to burgers and sandwiches and pasta dishes. Their weekly specials are often a bit more adventurous and are often your best bet. We were there tonight and had the meatloaf off the menu (which was excellent) and the pot roast, which was on the weekly specials. The pot roast was outstanding, covered in demi-glace not standard gravy. Prior visits have had very good pasta dishes, great salads, and an excellent goulash. I also recommend the Alaskan seafood chowder. I've also had a pretty good stir-fry. One day I need to explore the appetizers, especially the wings. Best wings I've had in the area are down the street at Chatham Pub, but I'm willing to have my mind changed! It's a great place to bring kids and grandma and grandpa. Every time we're there, we see multiple generations. It's just nice enough inside that the kids won't feel like they can run amok. It's much quieter in there than the chain places, and the prices are very reasonable and the portions are very large. And don't forget to get a couple of slices of their famous sour cream coffee cake to go. Sahm's is exactly what it aspires to be: a family-owned, family-friendly place with a menu with something for everyone. The food is fresh, the service is good, and the price is right. No one is going to confuse it for haute cuisine, but if you're looking for a place to take the whole family and get very good comfort food at a very good price, this is the place. read more

Very average. Not bad, but not really good either. We went because we received coupons in the mail, so we figured we'd give it a shot. We dined earlier in the evening on a Friday so there was no wait for a table for five. Our server was friendly (almost artificially so, but still pleasant and accommodating). We ordered onion rings as an app and they were okay, pretty greasy from the fryer. Between the five in our group, we got tenderloin sandwiches, breaded mushrooms, a beer-battered cod sandwich, French fries, and a kid's hamburger. Everything that was fried was super heavy and very greasy -- none of the light, crispy breading that makes a fried dish so addicting and delicious. The tenderloins were rated as "eh," one diner brought half of his home and the other just left his uneaten half on the table. My fish sandwich kept with the theme among the fried food here -- very very greasy. The knot bun was amazing but ended up soggy from the piece of fried fish. The value for money is there in my opinion, especially with the pretty generous portions. Probably around or even a little under what I would expect to pay for the dishes on the menu. Overall, not super memorable. Didn't hate it but probably won't choose this spot out of all the options in the area. read more

Had fried mushrooms &cauliflower, buffalo cauliflower , and spinach & artichoke dip. Great comfort food! Soso super good ! I usually go for their coffee cake which Is the ultimate breakfast delight. My sister recommended that I take my mom here for lunch since we would be in that area. (Mom is 89 so it has to be handicap accessible, good food and have beer.) First thing mom ordered was beer. Since we had a long day ahead, I told the waiter she could only have a little. He was great and brought her a 4oz tester, which she went through pretty quickly. She ordered the salmon Greek salad. I got a half order of tempura shrimp. She ate the olives, a little bit of the very good salmon and most of my really good onion rings as well as the cake that came with my order. Now I have salmon for my dinner later! Menu is extensive, orders are large, but you can get half orders too. My shrimp weren't really tempura, but they were freshly battered and fried..and good. Mac and cheese was just so-so, but there was plenty of food. Mom loved the cake that came with dinner, it tasted just like her sour cream coffee cake she baked a lot when I was growing up. Upon walking up to the restaurant we didn't know what to expect, as soon as we walked in it was warm, welcoming and cozy. Lots of booth options to sit at, which is a major plus to me. We ordered the clam chowder which was great, wished we had gotten the bowl bc it was soo good. I had a salad w salmon and he had the fired tenderloin sandwich. Both were magnificent. The salad selection had me very impressed w all the different fresh options. Tenderloin sandwich had a good batter that was nice and crispy and the pork itself wasn't pounded paper thin like a lot of places. Sahm's is a local landmark. For many years they have served up excellent food with good service. They have a varied menu of "American" cuisine. The prices aren't cheap, but are reasonable, and probably a bargain for the quality. The service is always friendly and reasonably prompt. You can take your whole family. I went recently and was very disappointed to learn that they no longer serve their mashed cauliflower. Believe it or not, this dish is absolutely delicious and is an excellent low-carb substitute for mashed potatoes. There are so few interesting low-carb side dishes available anywhere and I will sorely miss this. read more

There are many more interesting places to eat around town and there isn't much at Sahm's that you can't make at home. I guess maybe the popularity is in the Midwest comfort food; who knows? This place is not horrible but it's not great. I'm not even sure it's good. One of the things some Asian restaurants do to make their food more tasty is to add MSG. Doing so makes it more *savory*, which is a distinct flavor from the traditional flavors (sweet, salty, sour, bitter). Adding MSG can make some pretty bland and crappy food taste like nectar of the gods. That's why you find yourself eating rather plain fried rice like a famished pig eating trash. The American restaurant equivalent of that nastiness is adding tons of salt and butter/fat, which are far worse than MSG (look at recent studies that show MSG is not bad for you). I get the sense that this happens a lot at Sahm's. I had the chicken noodle soup and the chicken pot pie. Both were so salty that one serving can probably melt the Greenland ice cap. The crust on the chicken pot pie is flaky and pretty tasty but almost certainly laden with fat and butter. I'm far from a health freak but using excessive salt and fat to make plain food more tasty is cheating - and the food here is *too* salty. read more

The lighting was dark, in not so much of a romantic way as a trying to save money on the electric bill way. They had a few TV's with different games playing. The service was okay. Sublime. By now, it's no secret that I tend to regularly find myself at Sahm's family establishments. Without exception, these visits have existed somewhere in the 3-4 star range and all tend to provide what I'm usually looking for - a decent atmosphere, attentive customer service, good food and a fair price. Despite having regularly been around this neighborhood at 116th & Allisonville Road, I'd never actually visited Sahm's Restaurant, which I understand to be the flagship Sahm's establishment. I'd visited the Rockstone Pizza next door, also owned by Sahm's, but for whatever reason I'd never found my way here. Tonight, I was actually contemplating a return to Rockstone when I made an abrupt turn and decided to visit Sahm's Restaurant. There are certain things that seem to be common in most, if not all Sahm's establishments - the $2.42 menu, a special offering of appetizers and sliders between 3-5pm and 9pm-Close, and many of their menu items, for example. As I drove up, I noticed a couple things - on a previous visit to the next door Rockstone, I'd expressed concerns about accessibility. On this visit, I noticed the small strip center includes a very nice curb cut that I simply don't remember being there last time. If that's been added, I'm majorly impressed. There's a handful of accessible parking spots, the nicely done curb cut and a fairly light glass door. As you enter, you're immediately at the hosting counter. My immediate impression was "Wow, this is definitely the nicest Sahm's place yet," though I also love Big Lug Canteen and the Nora Rockstone. The decor is dimly lit, intimate, with a nice weaving together of booths and tables along with quite a bit of wood. There's a nice separation of dining areas that offers privacy. I cringed a little bit when the hostess took me back to a table near the kitchen area - I remembered how much the Sahm's on 65th Street bugged me with their verbal cues going in and out of the kitchen. While this restaurant also uses cues, they were consistently more softly spoken and the layout of the restaurant makes them less piercing to the dining experience. As I noted, the Sahm's establishments often have the same, or similar, dining experiences. Because I'd previously had their tenderloin and burgers, I opted for what is called one of their "specialties," more traditional meals that include a main dish with two sides plus bread. These meals are a tad higher-priced than sandwiches that include one side. I opted for an $11.99 1/2 order of meatloaf with two sides (fries, caesar salad) and my usual unsweetened iced tea. My entire meal came in at just over $15, a tad higher than I usually go but quite a bit of food. I was super glad I hadn't ordered the full meatloaf order. The meatloaf included a couple of healthy slices topped with a tomato brown sugar glaze that I found to be quite awesome. While it may prove to be a tad sweet for some, I thought it really complemented the meat perfectly. While two slices may not sound like a lot, these aren't your Bob Evans slices. It was a good sized serving and I was full by meal's end. The french fries, which are fairly consistent between Sahm's places, are lightly browned and seasoned - they aren't my favorite fries around town, but they don't detract from the meal. I enjoyed the salad, which was served nicely timed before the main course, and the bread was also tasty. Service was top notch. Michael was my server - he was attentive without being intrusive. As I know Sahm's emphasizes allowing customers to linger, I was impressed that even as they started to get busier I didn't feel rushed out of my 4-top table. I received multiple iced tea refills, always appreciated, and I didn't even get the bill until I made it clear I was ready for it. As I read through the other reviews, including some from fellow Yelp Elites whose opinion I respect, I see some of the comments reflecting issues I've had a couple times at other locations. Sahm's exists in this weird place between fast casual and nicer dining. My sense is that sometimes the servers don't quite nail that balance - if you allow some people to linger too long without attention, they feel neglected and like service is poor. As I've frequented Sahm's more, I've also learned items that aren't my favorites (like the burgers). Thus, I typically stay away from them unless specifically craving that item. Ultimately, I've got to go on my own experience and it seems like tonight's experience was everything I know that Sahm's strives for in the dining experience - a warm/welcoming atmosphere, top notch service, terrific food and all of that provided in a way that feels expensive but really isn't. If I could, I'd honestly probably lean toward 4 1/2 stars. I can't and the very minor issues don't justify the loss of a star. So, 5 stars it is. read more
