I have been supporting this location for years! Always was good food and service. Today was an exception. A friend and I were there for lunch; not crowded, maybe two other tables were occupied. I ordered the yellow curry, it was to be yellow squash and chicken in a yellow curry sauce. Well my plate came and there was plenty of yellow squash but no chicken. I waved to the server, who was incidentally eating her lunch at a nearby table and told her I had ordered chicken. She picked up my fork and started moving the food around until she found a piece of chicken!! She said, "there's your chicken"! I rarely complain about food but she went too far when she picked up my fork. I asked for more chicken and she picks up my plate to go to the kitchen. I asked her to leave my plate and just bring the chicken on another plate. She sad she had to show the cook that it was missing the protein. I've never had a server so indignant and she has worked there for a long time. There are many Thai restaurants in the area and I will be dining at those establishments from now on. We've been here many times for dinners for celebratory events this year. Why SB for celebrations you ask? Because it's one of the few places I can order something vegan without needing to alter a dish. Plus it doesn't hurt that they've got great food my whole family enjoys! I stopped by on a Friday afternoon and it was almost full, they had about 3 available tables when I entered. The restaurant looks amazing inside and out, so I wanted to love it. However, the wait time to order and get my check was long. I waited 10 minutes after looking at the menu to have someone take my order. I waited another 10 minutes just to get my check. My food took an average amount of food at a sit and eat restaurant to arrive ~20minutes. But really 10 minutes for a check? Service was slow but the servers were kind. The food was great for Buffalo Thai food. I had the pad thai with pork and my friend had the basil udon with chicken. We also had wonton soup. The soup was warm, cozy and delicious. The wonton tasted great, almost as delicious as the wontons I'd have in NYC. I think the basil udon with chicken was amazing as well. The basil sauce they had was sweet and savory and made the udon tasty and slippery. The pad thai tastes like any other pork pad thai; nothing special. I liked the basil udon best because of the sauce. On the menu, they claim they use absolutely no MSG, not that I have a problem with MSG, but I'm 100% sure it's true. My final meal of 2019, and it was a good choice. Grubhub had sent me a deal for free delivery and I, being confused what day it is for the past week, hadn't bought any groceries. Perfect. So this review is based on the food only. I couldn't decide between the Basil Udon with Beef and the Yellow Curry with Chicken. So I ordered both along with the Thai Roll appetizer with the promise of leftovers for tomorrow. Both dishes were incredible and after tasting them, I still couldn't decide which one I wanted more. I ordered everything mild as this was my first time ordering from Saigon Banhkok and didn't know what to expect. The sauce that comes with the Thai Rolls is spicy but the rolls themselves as well as the Yellow Curry were quite mild. I'll step it up a notch next time. You have a choice of spice level from 1 to 5. You also have a wide choice of protein with your noodle and rice dishes: chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, scallops, tofu, or veggies. With the curries, you also have a choice of white or brown rice, rice noodles, or vermicelli. I really liked the ability to choose a noodle instead of rice with the curry. The Basil Udon dish was very flavorful. Note: This is a very herbivore friendly menu with plenty of selection for non meat eaters. This is my go to Thai food authenticity test and it passed! It was the perfect tamarind flavor that was not too saucy. It actually had lots of pork that was cooked very well that it was tender. I think it needed more peanuts though! Lady Thai Prawn. There was a lot of shrimp surprisngly! The coconut curry that it was cooked in was also flavorful and not watered down. Ordered several times from here via delivery service. Very hit and miss. Out of the maybe 4 or 5 times I ordered, there was a dish missing three times. Attention to detail is clearly not their forte. The bag has always been stapled shut too, presumably because they don't trust their delivery drivers. Now the place has changed so that they are no longer listed as being within my delivery area, despite the fact that they're 5 miles away. I wouldn't recommend it. The food isn't anything other than ordinary, and if you're looking forward to a particular dish, then don't count on it ever arriving. I ordered the tamarind catfish and was amazed at the portion size and the light, almost tempura battering with the sweet and zesty tamarind sauce cooked with pineapples, peppers and sweet onions. The summer rolls were so fresh, stuffed with perfectly cooked shrimp. And our order of pork pad Thai was also generous with the portion and the protein. I have been a customer at this establishment since I was a child. Their food is always of very high quality and although sometimes wait times can be iffy, it's definitely worth the wait. I think I've only had bad service one time, but by the end of the night, the waitress still got an amazing tip based solely on the delicious food! This restaurant is near and dear to me. When I first moved to my new house ten years ago, I was excited because I'd tried it before and liked it, and it was so nearby. It ended up becoming a family staple. Never have I had anything bad there in the probably hundred+ times I've ordered from Saigon Bangkok in ten years. It's always good. There's always plenty. Service is always prompt and friendly, and the place is always clean. During the pandemic, they have been great about maintaining precautions. The rice is delicious even just on its own. The vegetables are always crisp and colorful, the meat tender and cooked just right, the seafood fresh and never dry. Though I'm am omnivore, I love their tofu - chewy and flavorful. Our family loves the fried tofu with peanut sauce, any of the soups, pad kapow with beef, panang curry, green curry with tofu, and Thai salmon the most. You can adjust the level of spiciness to your preference - we like spicy, but not extra spicy (don't say I didn't warn you!) Every once in a while we treat ourselves to a sweet Thai iced tea or even a creme brulee. And let me tell you, those are amazing. One thing I would say is I don't like taking my kids inside because they are a bit rambunctious and it's got a more quiet and intimate vibe. Since they were born, we tend to get takeout. What happens when you let out an exasperated moan because your favourite boyfriend just left, and then you go and find another random boy and engage him in some indoor sports? They were so insanely busy (wall to wall, not a table open), with rich suburban types and a few UB North Campus folks, so I had high hopes. I ordered a Thai Tea. My first complaint was the price. It was something like $4.50 for a Thai Tea. That is way, way, way too much. This isn't a homemade milkshake we're talking about. My second complaint was the amount of time it took. The girl who brought it was super cute, but the woman who took my order basically forgot about it and left me standing there for awhile. My third complaint was the size of it. It was so small, and I know the boys on Yelp hear this a lot, but it was UNBEARABLY TINY, as in, I wish I'd never gotten involved in the first place, that's how small it was. I told you boys on Yelp you'd heard this before. My worst complaint was the taste. It was by far the worst tasting Thai Tea I've ever had. I was delighted it was in a sample cup because there was less of it to throw out. It tasted like drainage fluid. I had a sip and then gave it to the plants out front because I was incapable of consuming the rest. The plants promptly died.* By the way, the food here is pretty pricy too. Even though they call it a "lunch portion," it is a very good size. You would have to be pretty hungry to finish the whole entree and side. The lunch combinations range from $8.00 to 12.00, very inexpensive for such good food! My favorite lunch to order is the Chicken Pad Thai with either a Tom Yum Soup (so tangy and flavorful) or a spring roll (crispy and delicious). Saigon Bangkok is also a fun place to go for dinner.
