We ordered 2 plates of Spring Rolls, which is one of my favorite Vietnamese Food. The Rolls were OK, but the service was really bad !! We like the Rolls with both Fish Sauce & the Peanut Sauce. For 2 plates or 4 Rolls, we were given only one regular serving of Fish Sauce & Peanut Sauce. When I asked him, he audaciously pointed to the sauces & told the names. Again, I explained to him, for 2 plates, we need 2 sets of sauces ! Then, with a grim face, he went in & brought the sauces ! We were quite hungry that day & were devouring the Rolls ! The cold Rice Paper Roll can be chewy. I noticed that, a few of the Servers/Waiters gathered near the Register behind us & were observing the way we were eating & even sneering ! Most people go to restaurants to eat well & appease their hunger, while a few people may eat daintily for whatever reasons, I don't know. Very rude & unwelcoming behavior & insolent service ! Will NOT go there again. I think there has been a change of ownership ! Quite a few years back, there used to be a very nice lady running the place. Haven't been back to Saigon Bowl for about a year and a half but man, not only did they expand but they also had a upgrade with their interior. Food is always amazing and the price is good too. You can get your traditional Vietnamese pho or bun or rice dishes but you can also venture out to try other things like their mini hot pot, or their Bun Bo Hue type of noodle soups. I personally really love the variety and always thought their Dong Kang dish is worth getting and sharing with friends/family too. Get the bigger one for about $30 if you're like me, only eating that and shared with about 3 people including myself. Be careful walking around in the restaurant especially when going to the bathroom, the floor can be super slick and I was not wearing grippy shoes. I feel like I had to walk like a penguin to get my footing. Other than that, the restaurant has great food, decent prices, and great customer service! read more

After a nice long walk outside, decided to treat myself to some pho. Looked up places and this place took me back here again. I came back here to see if the pho was good. Especially because they had pho with lobster tail!!! That immediately sparked my interest. I got here around 2ish on a Sunday afternoon. I was sat down immediately. I started off with a small wonton soup and plain eggrolls. The wontons in the soup was good but the broth was a bit oily. It was just okay. The eggrolls where okay as well. I then ordered a small rare steak pho with lobster tail and a taro boba. My pho came out and it looked fantastic. The pho was only okay too. The broth is not the best nor was it boiling hot enough when serving pho. The point of pho is that it's supposed to be served steaming boiling hot. The lobster tail, I think going forward, they should really consider taking the lobster tail out of the shell. Trying to dissect the cooked lobster tail out of the shell was quit a hot challenge. Lol. It was messy and I had to go wash my hands and then eat. I didn't like that it was messy. The taro boba was very delicious but I did not like the boba at all. The boba was not very well cooked. The taro minus the boba was probably the best thing I enjoyed. I was sad to give this place a 3 star but I hope they can totally enhance the quality and taste of their food. This restaurant is amaaaazing. It reminds me of the restaurants I went to growing up in San Jose. Yes, the menu is crazy big, please ask the servers what they recommend. If you're looking for something like pho, but want to try something new, try my favorite dish, the bun bo Hue. It's a spicier, porkier, more adventurous dish. I'm really picky about it, and I think theirs is delicious. Even the pork blood cube is fresh! (Did I forget to mention that part?) And to address the other reviews about iffy service... yo, it's a Vietnamese restaurant... a good one! That's just what the culture is. Don't be offended, just eat all your food, and be patient. Wow! I had no idea they expanded and renovated and along with it the menu seemed to have expanded and gotten an upgrade as well! On paper they already offer so many mouth-watering choices, it took hubby and me a while to land on #47 (Shredded Pork Skin and Egg Roll Noodle Bowl) AND #201 (beef wrapped shrimp, grilled, atop rice noodles), respectively. His is a typical Noodle Bowl offered almost at every Vietnamese restaurant, however, the shredded pork skin elevated the whole thing! It looks like another kind of noodle but spongier and peppered with a ton of peanut powder which made it a delight to eat! Perfect for days when you crave for a lot of fried egg rolls 'cause the bowl was full of them! I had to complement the meal with mine which had a lot of meat! Oh, and #201 in particular doesn't come with rice papers (the presentation of the dish would lead you to think it does) which worked out perfectly for me! Really enjoyed the beef wrapped around shrimp (both were tender and completed each other flavor-wise) and had fun dousing the rice noodles with lots of fish sauce. It was a fun dish to eat. I am never disappointed. The pork spring rolls are awesome. So much flavor, very crispy, and the sauce is *muah*. They bring out the set up for making the perfect traditional Vietnamese iced coffee here. I missed it so much. Sign me up for any coffee that has condensed milk. I recommend getting the veggie pho and beef on the side. That way you get all the yummy veggies AND the thinly sliced beef if that's your thing. Their chicken and rice dishes are also very good. Don't come here. If you do don't get this guy as your server. It is a TERRIBLE experience every time i come in with my friends and family. Thuc is the worst server and there were bugs all over the veggies. I have grown up eating here for over 10 years and we like the food here dearly so we always return. However this server Thuc has given us the worst experience my family and I had in our entire life. We had one incident with him for wanting to change our soup because his thumb was in the soup and ever since then he treats us so poorly. He checked on every table around us besides us. Never offered more water. Never Asked how the food was. Just walked past us. We had to go to the front to ask for more sides and help at the table and he walked off in the kitchen mid conversation. SO UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE! I'm also a server at another pho restaurant so I understand how to take care of customers. But Thuc is just EXTREMELY RUDE every single time we come in! I try to talk to the manager but the manager is never there!! No one was helping us besides a different lady server which we appreciated and tipped her instead. I thought the soup base was flavorful and rich, and I enjoyed the variety of meats in the soup. I would have liked a little more meat to balance out the noodles, but it was still very enjoyable. I also shared the spring rolls with some friends, and I thought they were just ok. Maybe the rolls needed more filling, or maybe something wasn't fresh, since I feel like I've had better elsewhere. Overly hyped pho place. They do have an overly extensive menu, so I'm not here to review about their food in general, I am here for the pho. I came here to try because of the pho reviews. I want to say that yes, it's edible, but I know what fresh authentic good pho is, and this place does not make it. I ordered the classic pho tai bowl, and the flavors of pho were just missing. The broth color sank to the bottom as of they just used the pho season bullions and water. This was the first Vietnamese restaurant I visited when I first moved to Denver a couple years ago. I enjoyed it back then and decided to visit again. Since then, it's been nicely renovated. We ordered the Bun with Grilled Nem Nuong (meatballs), the combination rice plate, and side orders of the egg drop soup and wonton soup. We asked our waiter to take the shrimp off the combination plate since I have an allergy. Both dishes came with lots of meat. I found the grilled meatballs delicious and juciy. The combination rice plate was okay - I think I would have liked the meat to be a bit more tender, but it was still fine. The egg drop soup had great flavor! One thing to note: - If you have a shrimp/seafood allergy, be sure to ask if your dishes come with them. We ordered the wonton soup because they typically are made with pork or chicken. The wonton soup here included shrimp and this was not labeled in the menu, so do yourself a favor and ask to be on the safe side. Overall, this place is fine if you want solid Vietnamese food. There are a lot of items/dishes offered in the menu, so I'm sure everyone in your party will find something they'll like. read more

My sister and I were in Denver just for the weekend, and after a weekend of stuffing ourselves mad (thanks to all the great recommendations from yelp! that kept us very full of very good food our whole time there), we opted for something a little bit lighter and decided to go for Vietnamese for our last dinner in the city. We searched yelp! for the highest rated Asian restaurants within 5 miles of downtown, and #1 was Dong Khanh Restaurant. Sold! As we got closer to the restaurant, we started seeing a lot of Asian-y type restaurants and grocery stores and realized that we were in for a really authentic Vietnamese experience. Having been to Vietnam and had really authentic food before, I was super excited. The restaurant was located inside of a strip mall, and there was a line pouring out the door (at around 7 pm on a Sunday night). A large portion of the people inside the restaurant were Asian, which is always a good sign for an Asian restaurant (I'm Asian so let me tell you, that's something that we look for). But there was a large amount on non-Asian people, which shows just how good this place is that even non-Asians know about it. Despite the long line, we were seated in about 15 minutes (got to love the efficiency of Asian restaurants!). The menu is overwhelming and deciding what to order is nearly impossible. I was so overwhelmed that I deferred to my sister - I simply couldn't decide. She made great choices (although I am convinced that there wasn't a bad choice to make): A soup with a little bit of everything - duck, chicken, fish balls, shrimp.. Do-it-yourself spring rolls with chicken I've had a lot of soup in my life, Asian, non-Asian, you name it, and the broth of their soup is probably the best I've ever had. It was really flavorful and you didn't have that feeling like you just needed to add a little pepper, or a little soy sauce, or a little whatever... it was already perfect. The do-it-yourself springs rolls were also delicious, and really fun! My sister couldn't believe I had never done it before. They bring out all the ingredients you need to make a vietnamese spring roll - the paper (which you dip in hot water to make soft), the sprouts, the veggies, and the chicken, which was, a-ma-zing. I don't know HOW they cook their chicken but I wish I did because it was just the right amount of tenderness with a slightly crispy outside... I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Like mentioned by others, the portions are HUGE, which is too bad only because it means you can't order more things to try. After stuffing ourselves silly (yet again), we were left with about two big styrofoam boxes to take with us. And to give you an idea of just how good the food was, my sister carried the leftovers with her as her carry-on on the plane from Denver to LA. No joke. And the bill? $20 for both of us. I also have to call out the amazing SERVICE. One thing that you can't count on from an Asian restaurant is western style service. You get authentic food, and that usually comes with authentic service, if you know what I mean. But here, they had the whole thing down to a science. My glass of water was constantly being refilled, our order was taken promptly and the food came out just as promptly, and as soon as they saw that we were done eating, they had to-go boxes ready for us. When I started writing this review, I had given this place four stars, but I'm bumping it up to five. I really don't have a bad thing to say about it, and it's the best Vietnamese I've had outside of Vietnam. Heck, it might even be as good as the food I had in Vietnam. Despite seemingly large amount of staff in red shirts on a Friday at lunch, and not that terribly busy, it took 7 minutes to get water to the table and that was after asking a busser. Finally, 10 minutes in, they came to take my order, which I made flawlessly because I had 10 minutes to memorize the menu. The restaurant was hot. It was winter outside. But the heat was cranked past high. I heard other customers talk about the heat. The restrooms were bright and clean. Food arrived. The egg roll was cold. Like made 15 minutes ago cold. There was a hair in my food. Hair in my food doesn't bother me at all. It happens. But there was a hair in my food. Didn't appear to be human. Was clearly finished with the meal and dishes were removed from table. No check arrived. Waited. Always waiting. The food is consistently good here but the service always lacks. I recommend this place, and I will return, but don't visit expecting the best of the best. Try it. You'll be glad you did. read more

Let me preface this review by saying we have gone to Saigon Bowl a few times, primarily getting Pho which has been very good. Clean, flavorful broth and great portions! Ventured off the beaten path and ordered the whole striped bass with ginger and black bean. Perhaps my fault but at $34.95 a costly mistake; I envisioned a lot more flavor from the sauce. What came across, oddly enough, was what seemed like just a strong flavor of bamboo shoots. Couple that with plain steamed fish and it was not an enjoyable flavor profile. Family ate about 1/2 and that was about it. Next time, we may try the fried option. Also ordered the Vietnamese Pork Egg roll appetizer and that was delicious. Having the egg rolls with all the fresh vegetables and fish sauce is amazing. Again, perhaps the fish was more a personal preference issue; I will happily order Pho and /or try other menu items. This order was also placed through Doordash. Fish was in an aluminum cake rectangle and covered with just plastic wrap. When the Door Dash driver arrived, they had the cup holder of boba drinks sitting on top of the fish. Common sense says that's not a good idea. Crush my food and melt my drinks! Today was my first time in this area in Denver. I was very excited to see Vietnamese food and a Vietnamese market. At last, a place that feels a bit like home (San Jose) to me (though it still felt a bit like Westminster in SoCal because of the two story buildings. Nevertheless, I felt at home. Because for the first time in two weeks I got to eat Vietnamese food. I took the waitresses recommendation and tried the $20 Dong Khanh special appetizer sampler spring rolls that came with cucumbers, pickled carrots, lettuce, cilantro, noodles, deep fried soft shell crab, egg roll like meat pieces, and various other cuts of meat. It was served with spring roll rice paper wraps and nuoc mam. I also tried the canh chua which I thought was nice, sweet, sour and full of fish with no bones (catfish)! I enjoyed the vegetables in them and it was made even better than my own mom's. I tried a goi (Vietnamese papaya salad) that came with shrimp and beef. It wasn't too strong in nuoc mam flavor. It was nice and citrusy. I also tried two other stir fry dishes. One was chicken with vegetables and the other had crab. Five dishes for five people (with leftovers) ended up being around $140. I had a deeply satisfying meal with my family and Dong Khanh is my first glimpse into the feeling of home away from home. The decor inside is fancier than other Vietnamese restaurants with padded booth chairs and a nice small aquarium. It can get pretty crowded during Friday around dinner time. We ordered a combo family dinner for 5 that including 6 dishes : - Shrimp and pork salad. 2 thumbs up. Very tasty. The balance between sour, sweet and salty of the salad were just perfect. - Sour soup with filet catfish in fire pot. Delicious. Lots of vegetables which my family loved it. - Salted braised catfish. Excellent. The caramelized and the saltiness were just right. - Lemongrass chicken stir fried with onion, bamboo shoot and bell peppers. This one was OK. My brother in law still managed to finish it. Last night we had our first delivery experience ordering from Saigon Bowl. First off, let me just start by saying that we are no fans of GrubHub here in our little corner of reality. In our experience their fees are unnecessarily exorbitant and their business model leaves a lot to be desired, but every once in a blue moon you're in a position that requires you to succumb to the industry behemoth. That's exactly what we did, and I gotta tell you that this time the results were very favorable! So here's the scoop...Bun Dac Biet for me and Chicken Pho for my wife. Bad news first: Both meals had one thing in common: the meat was a bit on the dry side, and I only had one piece of lonely shrimp in mine. However, the flavor was undeniably on point and the vegetables were fresh. Both dishes were delicious and worth the payoff to the corporate delivery overlords. I would highly recommend that you give this place a try, but I might suggest that you pick it up yourself when you do. Go forth in good health. read more

This place has some of the best Vietnamese food in Denver if you're looking for something amazing outside of pho (though I'm sure their pho is amazing). Two dishes caught our eyes: the Lau Do Bien Seafood Fire Pot and the Khai Vi Saigon Bowl appetizer (that's basically a DIY spring roll dish large enough to feed four people). They were both so delicious. The tamarind broth in the Fire Pot was spicy, sour, savory and delicious to put all the seafood and veggies in to cook, and then mix with the rice noodles. Service can be a bit slower during dinner, but they're super nice and will answer questions like what is a taro stem :) read more

Absolutely worst experience ever that left us feeling frustrated and helpless. First, one of our entrees was not included in our carry out order. When we called to inform them of the issue, they said it was not their fault and all we could do was place another order. Secondly (and far more disappointing) was a live bug in one of the entrees that we did get. Called the restaurant back, asked for a manager and was told there was not one available and they had no way of getting us in touch with anyone. Extremely disappointing. This place is the real deal. If you live in Denver or are visiting, you must visit Saigon Bowl. I went with my manager/friend/former neighbor (I know she reads my reviews, hi Brianna!) at her recommendation, and I'm SO GLAD she had us go here! It was lunchtime, and we were quite hungry, so we shared the Khai Vi Saigon Bowl / Saigon Bowl Appetizer, as well as an order of wontons. The appetizer alone was $30, so we should have known what we were up against, and we thought we were prepared. Let me tell you, you fine people of Yelp, this appetizer is humongous. And delicious. It's a hands-on experience where they give you a massive plate of soft shelled crab, shrimp, chicken, pork, beef, bean sprouts, lettuce, mint, cucumber, carrots and the rice paper wraps to wrap the whole thing in. You must heat the wraps in water to prepare them for your fillings. It's a delicious appetizer and you get to DIY your own spring rolls. Oh - and the wontons were maybe some of the best I've ever had. (I had an iced green tea and it was absolutely delicious too.) I highly recommend coming here! Please get the Saigon Bowl Appetizer if you do - and bring a few people to share it with. I only took one star off due to the service - we received our food very quickly, and had a meeting to get to after lunch. The first time that I ordered, I accidentally checked out through the Yelp app and it automatically authenticated my card. So, I guess I had a takeout order to go get! When getting there, I got there almost as soon as it was ready to pick up. I walked in, talked to someone shortly, and then left. Quick turn around! Once I got home and started engulfing the food, I was delighted to find that it was very good! So, I inevitably decided to order from there again! I've been coming here for a couple of years. Went for lunch today. I am so disappointed. My friend had said Saigon Bowl had gone downhill and I experienced it for myself today. Prices went up which they advertised and to be expected. Spring rolls shrunk, combination bun shrunk and everything in it shrunk. Smaller pieces of meat, 2 tiny little shrimp, and the egg rolls were over friend and dark. Even the vegetables were cut so small into tiny pieces. Wasn't worth $15.
