I recently stopped by Saigon City Supermarket again and was honestly pretty impressed. It looks like they've made a lot of improvements since my last visit. Before, it didn't feel as clean or well stocked, but now it's a big difference. The store is more spacious, organized, and easy to walk through. It's also much easier to find things. They have a wide selection of items, from fresh produce to dry goods and all kinds of Asian ingredients. The vegetables looked fresh and good quality. Prices are a bit higher compared to some other markets in the area, but you do get more variety and better quality, so I think it balances out. Staff are okay, not especially friendly, but not rude either. It does get busy on weekends, so going earlier in the day is probably better. Parking wasn't too hard, Another thing I liked is the small area in front where they sell ready to eat items like chè (Vietnamese desserts), different kinds of Vietnamese pastries, and snacks. It's nice to grab something quick to eat after shopping. Overall, even though prices are slightly higher, the convenience, cleaner space, and better selection make it a place I'd come back to when I need Vietnamese or Asian groceries. read more

I would like to give more stars here but one bad seed can really ruin everything. The Latino guys that work here are always really nice and helpful. I like the assortment of fruit and vegetables. Today I decided to try something from the seafood dept. Upon checkout, I was confused with the pricing because the cashiers weight at the register was different from the weight on the price tag and asked the cashier nicely how it was calculated. She tried to explain but had a hard time speaking English so she brought another colleague over to explain. It was slow at the registers so a few other employees came over to see what was going and helped answer my question. All was good, I wasn't causing any problems, just had a genuine question. As I was leaving, the guy standing in my pathway on the way out told me to hurry up and leave! Wth. So rude...that is not a way to treat your customers. I would understand if I was causing problems, being a Karen, etc. I've been coming here for decades but will opt for Hmart or the smaller mom and pop Viet markets from now on. read more

Got to say, it's abit of chaos at the checkout and the parking lot. Haven't been back here for a long long long time and I know that it had changed of owner recently (2-3yrs I think). Big parking lot but the folks here just either refused to move or don't know the rules of driving. They think they owned the lot and do whatever they want. Got one drove wrong lane (one direction) and honk to tell others to move so he can drive (what???), got one person just parked behind my car and just careless of me needed to get out (even I honked couple time) and there are other parking spaces nearby. Got cars just go and don't check other since I almost got hit and about to hit someone else. That was outside, inside was typical VNese market but got to say it nicer, brighter, cleaner than it was before. Prices are great but staff are just not nice or ignored customers in general. Was stopped by to get 2 things and got it, then comes the checked out. 2 opens checkout with 10+ shoppers inline. There are other staff just walked back and forth...don't know what the manager is or thinking...I waited in line for 15mins and they finally open 1 more...just one and the lines are just still...long. The cashier was nice and friendly but other than that plus sale prices it was overshadowed the place and other small shops within the market. Maybe it might be an off day or I just had a not great day here but I don't think I want to come back for awhile. Hopefully the management can do something about it inside and outside. read more

We shop here in a pinch as it is conveniently located next to our home, but the employees are always so rude. But we quickly just get in and get out. Today, my daughter and I stopped by to pick up a few items with her service dog. Yes! A legit, ADA compliant diabetic alert dog in which had its vest on and paperwork for proof. Upon arrival, the security guard immediately refused to let us in. I explained that was against ADA and we also have paperwork if he would like to see it, but he ignored us and waved us off! I asked to speak to a manager, but he again ignored and walked away from us. So I went inside the store while my daughter stayed outside hoping to speak to a manager. I tried to explain to him what was happening and he walked outside to see, but he and the security guard spoke to each other in Vietnamese ( I don't speak the language-non Vietnamese) exchanged nods and both still refused to let us in. At this time, I asked for both of their names in which they both refused to give me any info. And just walked away from us. Way to be ADA compliant! Grrrr read more

This grocery store is known for a wide variety of produce, especially Vietnamese herbs. However, for the few times that I've visited recently, some of the veggies were wilted or ready to turn. The biggest let down for me was cleanliness. I know they have been trying to rennovate some of the areas, but the floor was always sticky, dirty, and full of fruit stickers. Saigon City and I had a long history together, I used to go there exclusively as it supported cancer research and I'm a cancer survivor, they donated if I remembered correctly 5% of the sale given directly to VACF.In the beginning it was just awsome, it was like a mini Cho Ben Thanh in Saigon, it had 3 stalls selling fast food, bun rieu, banh cuon, springrolls, etc..then on the left side were 3 mini stores selling souvenirs, fashion jewelry. All those businesses sadly folded I still don't know why, lack of advertisement I guess? They now do have a store selling sweaters, nice stuffs but I already have 4 closets of clothes! LOL! After struggling for the past year, it was finally sold so under new management, the market had a facelift, the signage was bright and had curb appeal, the store was clean but it's too crowed, it was jampacked w merchandise. Their price is competitive, I bought a box of mangoes $12.99 at Saigon market so I got ripped off!! LOL, it was only $10.99 here and it's better quality too. The fish was fresh looking, I had a red snapper fried, it's free to get it fried, it was a cheap and delicious meal at home. This is the best place to buy MAGGI, MADE IN GERMANY ONLY $7, WHOA! they had the smaller bottle also made in Germany 2 for $3, unfortunately it's the hot version, I wish they had wo the jalapenos, I could take it w me on my cruises. The grocery store is located on the corner of Brookhurst and Magnolia. There is a lot of parking and it's located in a busy shopping strip. There is a lot of great items available in the store - fruits, veggies, meats, canned and frozen items, and more. They also have sufficient selection of baking goods - extracts, food colors, seasonings, etc. Prices are reasonable and there is a good selection of items. Checking out is pretty quick. Decent grocery options! Being one of the supermarkets opened later, this place is a holy grail. They just recently remodeled the place and rearranged the produce section. It seems smaller, but is actually a lot more organized. They have a vast range of options and everything is reasonable priced. Some items are definitely cheaper than others. The workers there are really nice and friendly. If you buy a lot, they give you a really large reusable bag to carry your groceries in as well as some snacks. My mom is really picky and this is one of the few supermarkets she'll actually go to. Highly recommend stopping by! read more

Typical Asian Supermarket. Looks like they had plenty of dessert and deli type items. I came in for some kaffir leaves and galangal. I saw another yelper report they had both. Turns out the kaffir leaves are a hit or miss. They did have galangal but it was frozen. Great spot for all types of herbs and specialty vegetables. They even have prepared, shredded papaya on hand. Would recommend this store but not during their busy hours or in my case, during your lunch hour. read more

When you buy groceries from this establishment, the staff are very enthusiastic to take your money -- but when you want to return it -- their mood switches. They try to find reasons for you not to return your items -- even when they are defect. The Orange County Health Department should visit this establishment to document and maybe they will understand. The employees here are extremely rude to paying customers. Employees want to verbally fight with paying customers. They don't care about their business and reputation. I bought meatloaf (chả lụa) from this market around 7:30pm on 6/23/2024. I put it in the fridge when I get home. When I opened it to eat on the next day morning it had already gone bad, slimey (nhớt). I live 40 mins away so couldn't return it. My family was also treated terribly and rudely at the meat section from a worker there. Very disrespectful. We will never return to this market and make sure to tell all of our friends and families about the bad experience that we got. read more

I came in to grab some galangal and it was kind of a mission to find ONE that wasn't completely moldy! Since this place is only a minute drive from my house, I'll only be coming here for emergencies, but I definitely won't be getting anything from the meat department. This is second time we been here, the foods here is terrible... The first time we been here couple months ago, we bought a box Mama noodle box the noodles out of date we have to trash all. Today we bought a mango box, when we got home all the mango den & crushed... we brought back for return . I was on the hunt for ingredients to make Mochi muffins & needed coconut milk and mochiko sweet rice flour (Koda Farms brand specifically) Unfortunately, I had to go to a handful of Asian markets to find the ingredients, including this store. Wanted to throw in a quick review for others who may find this useful! No, they did not have the Koda Farms mochiko sweet rice flour. They did have Koda Farms rice, though. Yes, they did have coconut milk but I found the prices pretty expensive compared to the other stores I visited. Other points: - Store was ok on cleanliness. - Compared to other Asian markets, this store's prices were slightly higher. Because there are so many other Asian markets nearby with bigger selection and lower prices, I probably won't be visiting Saigon Marketplace in the future. read more

I actually stopped by to pick up some stuff but was lured into the 'deli' area. They serve up dim sum and some hu tieu and mi items. They also do cha siu and roast duck with rice combos. It is quite deceiving as you get close to Saigon City because the sign will point you to the BBQ store located to the right side of the market. However, once inside you'll realize that all they sell are the 'hanging goods' as I call them -- roasted duck, chicken, cha siu. If you are looking for the food items, you have to actually go inside of the market and hang a right and the 'deli' is right there. A few tables are available for you to eat your food there. I ordered a house special hu tieu ($4.75) and I asked if I could have it with egg noodles (mi) instead of hu tieu and the woman said "NO". *SIGH* I sat down and waited for my food to be ready. During this time I saw people with bowls of noodles with guess what? MI!!!!!!!!! I was kinda bummed. Then I saw lots of people eating banh xeo. It wasn't on the menu. I guess you have to know. Anyway, the noodles I got were really below average. I'd say 2 stars for the noodles and one extra star for not having MSG. I'm coming back to try the dim sum and banh xeo next time. And oh, the supermarket portion wasn't very exciting either. read more
