we had ordered 8 dishes for a party and once an hour and fifteen minutes had passed we began to wonder what happened with our order. our uber eats driver was waiting at the restaurant for over 40 minutes so I called and the manager informed me they ran out of rice. on a Saturday night?? he offered to give rice noodles instead and I decided to wait even longer as he said they were cooking a new batch of rice. it took 1hr 45 min to get our food and the manager lied to me. he gave us rice noodles instead of rice. he purposely lied and ruined the order. we will never again eat here out of principle. read more

An unexpected gem! Some of the best Vietnamese food I've had in New York. They actually offer com tam and che ba mau which I haven't really been able to find at other Vietnamese places in New York. They also had bun bo hue on their special menu during one of my visits, which I also haven't found at other New York Vietnamese restaurants. The shrimp summer rolls, unfortunately, have too much vermicelli and not enough shrimp. The peanut sauce it came with was on point though. What a surprise gem we found North of NYC. This restaurant is tiny comparing to others, they only have (5) 2 person tables and (4) 4 people tables. There will be a line during dinner time. Tucked along busy Central Avenue lies Saigonese, whose pleasant staff serve up authentic, flavorful Vietnamese cuisine at good prices amidst a pleasant atmosphere. Food, first and foremost, is great. Off of the appetizer menu, their grilled spare ribs are absolutely extraordinary. As someone who doesn't love greasy, dripping meat, the ribs are a perfect balance of tender and dry, coated in a marinade I can only imagine features soy and fish sauce. Whatever it is, it's great! Their bo luc lac (beef cubes) is great, the meat not "melt" tender, but so flavorful. Think of it not as tough, but were the meat too soft the flavor wouldn't seep in as much. Their Vietnamese-style crepe is good as well; the crepe itself a satisfying, slightly buttery tinge, with the filling shrimp and meat good, though a bit bland, surprisingly. Use the fish sauce! I enjoyed their house pho, though I must confess I'm more of a ramen fan when it comes to noodle soups. No, the best thing I've had at Saigonese is actually their fried tofu, cooked in a hot clay pot. Not only is it striking on arrival, steaming and bubbling, but the flavor and textures are so varied and strong. The slight chew of the tofu skin yields the softer inside, which has absorbed the aromatic sauce. And there's plenty of it, which brings me to a practical point: The food here is well-portioned and not exceedingly expensive, where I find many ethnic Westchester restaurants can put on airs, and deliver a plate filled only a quarter, for a third more the price. Saigonese is unpretentious, appropriately-priced, and welcoming to the max. The waiter, on multiple occasions (I'm becoming a regular!) answered my mother's good-intentioned pronunciation-inquiries, and times I've been the staff have politely suggested how to properly approach a dish that might be foreign to a New Yorker. It's a home-y interior, with a soothing, though not extravagant, fish tank, and a clean aesthetic. The only things that holds me back from five stars are some inconsistencies between visits. Sometimes there are four ribs to the order, sometimes six; we once ordered pork fried rice, and got beef (no doubt the staff would have happily turned this around, had we asked; it was still good!) and so on. Never has my experience been anything less than "very good," though not always "excellent." I look forward to many returns! read more

I came here with some friends to celebrate a birthday and have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised. We started with an array of appetizers - the shrimp summer rolls, spring rolls, and fried squid. The summer rolls and spring rolls were solid but nothing to write home about. The fried squid, while a little salty, was fried very well and the light batter was great. I ordered the House Special Pho and was impressed by the broth which was deep enough to be satisfying without being overwhelming. The quantity of food provided also struck the right balance between satisfying and stuffing. Service was great in that they were attentive and polite when we needed something, but gave us our space when we wanted it. We never felt rushed and left satisfied overall. read more

Good enough Vietnamese fare for Westchester. Decided on Vietnamese as a change-up from our usual Scarsdale/Hartsdale Korean fare, and picked Saigonese for a pho fix. Short wait despite a transient 7:00 Saturday evening dinner rush, and were promptly seated. House special pho featured above-average broth, with a solid but not life-changing level of sweet-savory complexity. Unfortunately, bowls lacked cilantro, and were served with much fewer sprigs of fresh basil than their OG competitors, which overall detracted from the overall experience. Mixed cold vermicelli with barbecued pork, shrimp, and fried spring roll was a high point, with nicely textured noodles complimented by the sweet tang of the mixing sauce and pork. Make sure to eat it quickly before the noodles soak up too much sauce and becomes a goopy mess. read more

Stopped in here for dinner after my flight in to White Plains/Westchester County Airport. I was coming down with a cold or something and wanted some Pho Ga to help fight off the plague. I ordered the Summer Rolls and a bowl of Pho Ga. The Summer Rolls came out in short order. They were stuffed with what appeared to be iceberg lettuce, along with the other ingredients. Texture wise, the rice paper was overly chewy and the temperature of the rolls leaves me to believe they had been pre-made and were sitting in very cold storage - cold enough that the lettuce texture-wise was almost frozen. Not very good. Then the Pho came out. It looked good. The plate of aromatics looked good, except for the Basil, which was slightly wilted. I then tasted the chicken broth. It had almost no flavor. I added all of the ingredients: lime wedge, basil, jalapeños, and bean sprouts - and a good amount of Sriracha sauce. The chicken was tender and the broth was steaming hot - those are the only two positive things I can say about the bowl of Pho Ga I was served. The gentleman who took my order asked me how it was. I was honest and told him that the broth had almost no flavor. His response was that it is a chicken broth. I don't understand that - as I've had some outstanding, delicious, flavorful chicken broths at other Pho joints. Service was attentive and good. Maybe you'll have better Pho experiences here with the other non-chicken Pho's? read more

We generally get their Pho soup. It is the best I have had. It is warm and comforting. I get the beef soup and my husband usually gets the seafood soup and we both like it a lot . We also like their summer rolls and their spare rib appetizer. Unfortunately the add-ons to their soup don't travel well so we really take their soup out. But if we can go there we will. I was excited to try this place with my boyfriend but as soon as we go in we were so shocked at how small it was, then we got seated in the middle which was extremely tight, did not have much space to even put my cellphone or glasses on the table. When I was all done, I was thinking about when I was returning. I was satisfied with their pho! I ordered the house pho and an order of summer shrimp rolls. Both were incredible. The pho had such great flavor and was a great amount. The only reason I did not give this place a 5 star was bc the service was not great. It took me about 20 min. to try and pay for my bill. I give this place 4 stars simply because of their customer services we had the shrimp spring rolls and fried squid which were excellent. My wife had the rice noodle with pork which was good I decided to get the pho beef house special. I wanted to try something new and I had never tried pho soup before and wanted to see if I would like it. Unfortunately I hated it I couldn't eat any of it and when the server asked me if I wanted to take my bowl to go I said nooooo and made a face of disgust. I told him I didn't like it and when the bill came he told me removed it off the bill which was really nice of him and I appreciated that. I had the beef round soup. Overall, it was okay. It has less taste than over pho places I've frequented. My concern however was with their sign: "We reserve the right to refuse anyone". As a first time patron, I found this sign was unfriendly. I asked later about it, and it was explained to me that it was used for intoxicated people. I understand that, and I am totally understanding of restaurants wanting to refuse service to rowdy people. However this standardized sign is vague, and could be applied in other ways. Additionally, if a person is intoxicated, the sign won't really help. I imagine that is where you'd want to call the cops. I was told the sign is frequently used in the area. I've frequented a lot of establishments in Westchester, Queens and Fairfield County in Connecticut and this is my first time seeing this. Overall, I find it distasteful. As an aside, if you are traveling to Queens - Flushing has really outstanding pho places. read more

Came here after passing it on central Ave looked it up on yelp and decided to give it a try upon entering the restaurant which is very small but clean with a extremely clean fish tank I noticed Vietnamese people, white people, and Spanish people which is a good sign. We ordered the spring rolls which were great and the traditional I around pho. The amount of beef and noodles in the soup was great. Ugh I had the pho and it was really disgusting. Firstly... it was overpowered with so much cinnamon, that it was all you smelled from the pho. I had 3 bites and I just couldn't eat it anymore, it really smelled bad and just the taste of all the cinnamon covered up the beef broth, etc. It was oddly sweet more than savory which made it worse. The noodles were stuck together and hard, I had to break it up which took a lot of effort... So it wasn't fresh. The restaurant is really small, it had a cute vibe and the people were nice. Not very outspoken, they saw my full bowl when we asked for the check and didn't say anything lol. I agree with the comments on the customer service. I used to be a semi-regular customer and started to order takeout, till one day I was missing spring rolls. I let them know and they offered to replace them on my next order. It was a big order so I didn't feel right about emptying the bag to check for the replacement summer rolls, and of course, they're going to make it right and double check the mistake is not repeated, right? Sure enough, it was missing again! Again, I let them know and this time they didn't believe me! Really?? I want to steal some summer rolls??! Now, I don't feel right even coming back because they think I want to cheat them out of some stinking summer rolls. I do think the rice rolls stink, but it was for my kid so twice she didn't get what she ordered.
