Update: the owner reached out and apologized for including a child as the 5th person and charged a service fee. She said she would refund us and we appreciate her honesty. We did enjoyed our food. The food was good. But this restaurant charge us $10 service tax because we have 4 adult and a child. I didn't see it on their website about this extra service charge when I checked out their menu earlier. We have gone around to many restaurants in Chicago city without being charged a service tax for 4 adults and a child. Our total bill was $55. So the staff just automatically shoved us 18% tips in the bill and said this is their policy for 5 pax. It is our prerogative to decide if we like to tip 15/18/20% tips. We will not patronize this restaurant ever again and if you have 4 or more person dining here beware. read more

Came here on a Saturday evening and put in a takeout order. Was in and out within a couple minutes. We ordered two mango curries along with a Phad Thai beef with crispy noodles. Overall, none of the dishes met my expectations. The mangos were very mushy and super sweet which probably contributed to the entire dish being very sweet for a curry. We had one tofu and one chicken version, tofu was better as the chicken was very very dry. The lad nar was also strange. The noodles was like crispy wontons..which may be normal but they were all clumped together to the point where you couldn't separate them. The brown gravy sauce that's supposed to be put on top... didn't even look like a sauce as it was a soup consistency. Even pouring the sauce on top of it didn't change anything as it just ran off the noodles and just looked at the bottom. We initially thought they gave us the wrong dish as it didn't look like what we were expecting but the taste was similar to it enough to identify the dish. It's a byob. Panang noodles were amazing, flavorful and a generous portion. Had the veggie spring rolls that are handmade so we were able to customize them without eggs. The accommodate to vegetarians so was able to get the dishes made without fish sauce. It was not hard to walk in and get seated right away considering it was Saturday night. I love Thai, but I'm a picky Thai food person. I wanted to try something fast, good and not too expensive. This fit the bill. Laab- a little heavy on the lime but all the flavour is there Red curry chicken - curry was a little thin, and the chicken definitely could have been marinated to pick up the flavour more, but the taste of the curry was good (a little mild on the heat though) Pad Thai - good flavour, again a little mild on the heat but easily fixable Overall well done read more

Just moved to Chicago (6/1/2017). Found this place because it was walking distance from my home and was reviewed very well. Needless to say it didn't disappoint. I went with the Chicken Basil and spicy Miso soup and I asked for them both to be extra spicy. I usually have an issue with this cause my spice tolerance is rather high. We're fishing for a new delivery Thai spot and this is in the top running. Delivery was speedy (in under 25mins.), and everything was piping hot. Coconut shrimp was yummy, though fried in too hot of oil making inside batter still wet and outside over-browned. Tom Ka soup was yums and filled to the brim with goodies, only could have been better with more exotic mushrooms. Cucumber salad was fresh but could have used a longer marinade or more dressing. I love the green chicken curry here. I live around the corner, so this is my go-to. The curry is always very flavorful! I wish they would include a little more veggies, and I find that there is almost no difference in heat between the mild to hot. Have not eaten in before, but seems to be almost all take out M-Th, and then busy eat in on the weekends. It is BYOB with a 5/bottle or 1/can beer corkage. read more

Love this place ! I'm a veggie and they have fantastic tofu dishes. I've had the Pineapple fried rice, fried tofu, tofu pad Thai , and yellow curry and all were great. You can't beat the $8 daily lunch special at SaiMai. I work in the neighborhood, and SaiMai is always a winner-- especially during the wintertime, when a steaming powl of panang can warm you to your core. The food is always fresh and hot, the restaurant is always quiet (great for lunch meetings, or a quiet lunch with your favorite book), and the service is attentive. It's also super fast-- you won't feel rushed if you want to take an hour, but if you need to get in and out in 20 minutes, you can usually do it here. read more

Great Local Thai Option Sai Mai is a great local Thai option with a surprisingly nice and tasteful interior. I've been here multiple times, there is always seating and the food comes out hot and fresh. So to be honest, some bad reviews on YELP kept me away from Sai Mai for a while. However it is quite literally on my doorstep so I decided to check it out. I have now been there three times and the food is of good quality, consistent and quick to arrive. I had the red curry and parang curry on different occasions and my gf got the pad Thai and the dishes all lived up to expectations. Best of all, the place is really cheap and also gives free egg rolls with a yelp check in offer and is BYOB so a meal for two including tip is around $25. I know what you are thinking, "Subway is right next door and is even cheaper" -however, do yourself a favor and splash the extra $7 for some quality food! read more

The place is amazing, especially the food! HOWEVER, THE SERVICE is TERRIBLE. This one waitress who always works there does not smile or greet customers. On top of it, she has this rude look going on like we are troubling her. When she brought out the food, she literally THREW the plates on the table. And rudely pushed glasses out of the way. I live close by and I had passed by this restaurant so many times but I never walked in. One night I finally decided to try this place. The restaurant was kinda empty, which worried me a little. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at SaiMai Thai the other night. We were kind of desperately looking for a dinner spot, so we needed something close-by that could seat 8 people. Needless to say, we couldn't be too picky on a Saturday night. We stumbled upon this place, and I expected an average (at best) experience. However, I was thoroughly impressed by both the food and service here. We had a large group, so we were able to try a bunch of things. This was great because it gave me a good feel of what the place had to offer and also let me step out of my Thai food comfort zone. One of my favorite "new" dishes was the green tea noodles. The staples - such as pad kee mao and panang curry - were also really well done. We tried a variety of soups and appetizers, and everything was really great there, as well. I haven't had a ton of stellar Thai food in Chicago, so it felt great to enjoy SaiMai as much as I did. We chose this place because of its proximity to the Park West. We arrived with plenty of time to eat and still find good seats for a 7:30 concert. We sat. We ordered. We waited. Others entered. They sat. They ordered. Their food arrived. We, meanwhile, had still had not received our appetizers. Each time the kitchen door swung open, we looked up hopefully, but the food went to someone else. Time ticked by. We looked at our watches. We looked at the server. We tried to be patient. Half an hour passed. Eventually the server came over to apologize: it seems she lost our ticket, if we re-ordered she'd have our food in five minutes. We did not want to go to the concert hungry, so we had little choice but to try again. We re-ordered, this time without the appetizers. Food came in about eight minutes. Food was actually quite good. I was initially impressed with the scope of their menu. We tend to eat a lot of Thai food, so it is nice to occasionally have some different choices. Spouse had an Avocado Curry. I was a little skeptical of that choice, but he said it was flavorful and good. I went with the Jade Kee Mao, which is Pad Kee Mao with green tea/veggie noodles. Really good!! Loaded with fresh veggies and the sauce was oh so tasty! I wish I could have taken my time and enjoyed it, but we were starting to worry about that concert, so we shoveled down our food as fast as possible. I am willing to give them another chance at some point. The good food did somewhat mitigate being forgotten. But only somewhat. The server really should have caught it sooner. We were sitting right near the entrance, at the top of the steps that go down into the main part of the restaurant. After taking our order, she never came anywhere close to our table again. Not to check on us. Not to refill waters. Nothing. If she had, we would have asked if there was a problem with our order. Yes! So excited to learn that Sai Mai is back. Was at the zoo with my family and we were looking for somewhere for lunch and stumbled across this place. I recognized the name as a place I used to frequent in Logan Square. I inquired and the owners confirmed that they owned(and closed) the other location. The food and menu are very similar to the old location. My favorite dish was and is the pad kimao. Spicy, sweet and delicious. I usually have them add some shrimp to my order too. This dish goes great with their Tom Yum soup which I will certainly be back for in the fall and winter! The spot and service is clean and welcoming, and they were really helpful in picking out dishes for my (very picky)five year old son. It is also BYOB. I will be back for sure. read more

Was planning to go there because the rate seems ok, got into the restaurant and was block by table due the virus, the lady doesn't sound so friendly and she asked me to go outside scan the code for online order with no further explanation. I scanned the code and tried to order, then the website seems to have problem as i can only order pickup for tomorrow. So I have to go inside again and ask, I see her at the kitchen and call her, no response , called for few times, finally she came out and told me to order online , i explained I couldn't order for today, then she went to her computer and told me to try again (no eye contact).
