First time coming here for a closed event. They had a nice stage set up for the DJ and screen for the projector to show pictures. The set up of the space was great with a modern feel. The open space near the stage up until the bar area is pretty much standing room only, however there's a lounging area kinda like your father's den style on the side where you can still see and hear everything going on. Farther from that are booths to eat and chat where it's not so loud. The mixed drinks aren't as strong and a bit overpriced, so best to go with drinks straight up or shots. Bartenders were cool and super laid back considering how busy they can get. Street parking available. Will try to come again on a regular day when they have live music. read more

Ahh finally enjoying a college Thursday out :) jus like old times! looool ugh I feel old. Came here when my friend was a promoter for one of the reggae bands. We came here and it was a pretty cool place. The bar was clean and there were plenty of seats. There were TVs along the bar so you can watch whatever is happening on the stage from the bar stools. During that night they had various drink specials like one dollar hawaiian beers and three dollar reggae shots! We had many rounds that night and danced the night away! The crowd was pretty mixed with a large age range. The restrooms were clean and were well lit. I will definitely be back here to see another band or to just hang out with some friends. Visited Saint Rocke for the first time last week. It was Reggae night and they featured a group called ANUHEA, w/ The Green. The venue itself was nicer than I'd imagined, and the acoustics sounded great (albeit, a bit on the loud side...geez, i'm getting old.) Other than that, i really had a great time, and plan to visit again. My bf tells me that some really great bands come through from time to time. A couple of months back, Ellis Hall (the great, jazz pianist) played here. From what I hear, i missed a once in a lifetime show. boo~! As far as drinks and food: I hear they have good happy hour specials (for both food and drinks). Drink prices range from average to higher (i think their martinis were around $15). Will update a food review next time. If you're in the Hermosa Beach area, it's definitely worth checking out! read more

I've been meaning to review Saint Rocke. I hope that this review does it some justice. As a resident of the South Bay, I've gone to nearly every single bar in the area. I've never had such a great time like I have here. Here's the story. For a very long time, I'd drive by and see a crowd that I didn't really think I've fit into. I felt it was too fancy for me. It was intimidating. But why are we not intimidated by the overpriced Hollywood clubs and lounges? Why do we drive all the way out there for a nearly mediocre experience? Why do we locals need to support other businesses while these in our neighborhoods are offering much better services? Have you seen their roster lately? Good lord. NOFX? Cypress Hill? Pato Banton? Not to mention how much they support local artists. So amazing. If you haven't given this place a shot, then you definitely should. Put away your pre-judgements and genuinely go in and order your favorite beer. The place is beautifully decorated. There is beautiful artwork on all kinds of genre of music all over the walls. The lighting is amazing. Visually stunning place. There is a private feel to the whole venue. I remember being outside and not being able to hear a thing, I said -- "Wow, is it dead inside?" Nope it wasn't. Their soundproofing is remarkable. Once inside, the sound is crispy. The vibe mellow, and the staff completely nice. Every time I've been the bartenders have been extremely friendly and attentive. I hope more people give this place a shot. Come for reggae: Dubbington. Come see a local dude play his guitar. If you're a fun person and enjoy a very cool place, this is the place for you. Saint Rocke envelops what every local bar should. You should feel welcome. You should feel comfortable. You feel good when you walk in. No snobs here. If you appreciate good music and great ambiance, come. Please, come, don't rob yourself of the experience. This is my staple to come to and have gotten tons of my friends in love with this place. We're gonna keep coming and if you don't, that's too bad because you won't get to have fun w/ us. Saint Rocke is an awesome local music venue that I had been too many times to see shows. They host bands like Pepper, unwritten law, sandsection, tomorrow's bad seeds... Tons of awesome shows right here in Hermosa! But, I had never been there for food until last night! It turns out Monday is all night happy hour! And on top of that the happy hour is insane! $5 everything on the menu??? So I got an excellent $12 glass of Pinot noir and paired it with one of everything on the menu! Our server Katy was amazing, extremely welcoming, friendly, and knowledgable. The background music was awesome.. lots of Zeppelin! Over all great atmosphere, great service, and great food! I absolutely Love this venue! I just saw "Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band" from North Carolina yesterday. I had just saw them the day before at the annual Long Beach Funk Fest, and they were off the hook. I've been wanting to check this club out for a while and luckily... I finally did. Right away the bouncer was friendly and so was everyone else. The atmosphere is intimate and stylish all together, similar to hotel cafe just slightly bigger with comfy couches and more open space. The service and food was pretty good. Our server checked on us throughout the night and she was fast with anything we needed. My friend had sliders and sweet potato fries and I had the margarita pizza. They have a nice variety of beers on tap a full bar. I give it all an A+ read more

Great live music spot. No cover on Saturday either woohooo! Service at bar was quick. Good amount of tables/seats in the back which allowed for a big "dance" floor in the front. The crowd was mixed, diverse, and pleasant. The band who played was awesome as well. Im not sure what they were called, but I thinkkk it was Garrett Lee Robinson?? Those words were on the backdrop/curtain behind them. They were awesome! Groovy and kept the crowd yelling for more. Great place for live music and drinks. Upon my first visit to Saint Rocke...I wasn't sure what to expect. I've passed it many times on my drive home to work but never stopped in. End of last year I had a reason: Stepping Feet (Dave Matthews Band cover band) were playing and me and about 50 Daveheads really needed to get our dmb fix satisfied! First impressions when walking in? stellar! The ambiance was awesome, staff was welcoming and the food and drinks?... pure awesomesauceness! Saint Rocke is a nice intimate venue to enjoy live music. They always seem to book good reggae bands! I've seen Michael Rose at this venue, and it was such a great time. The music was amazing, and the sound was dialed in just right for the space. The bar was clean and there were lots of seating next to the stage.. There were TVs along the bar so you can watch whatever is happening on the stage from the bar stools, so it was comfortable watching the bands even while sitting down to enjoy a drink! update: I wanted to update this since things have change since my original review. Most of the unauthorized charges where retracted and there is now only one remaining for $63. The manager sat down with me and went through all of the transactions made that night. He was unable to find it in his records even though it appears on my bank statement. He gave me four free passes and said he will call Wells Fargo to try and get this final one retracted. Hopefully this will all get worked out soon. __________________________________________ Made fraudulant charges to my credit card!!!!! Beware!! Used to go here alot because many of my friends perform here. Always had a good time. Went this past friday and had two drinks. Gave card and including tip came to $22 They charged my card $25. Ate dinner they claim the card doesnt go through so my girlfriend pays. Look at my bank statement today and see FOUR separate charges totalling $170!! I came in with my boyfriend to see Tyler Hilton. We have been to the Sainte Rock many times in the past and had good experiences. The seating layout isn't great and they have never had a great food selection. Last night was unbelievable...in a BAD way. We got there right when they opened the doors so we could eat dinner before the live music started. Big mistake. We were sitting at the bar. They were out of half the items on the menu. Mind you...the menu only has about 10 things to choose from. The kitchen manager should have been prepared for this holiday and ordered enough food. Willow was our server. She was AWFUL!!! I was a server for 6 years and know how hectic it gets on holidays like Valentine's Day. But this was horrible. She ignored us numerous times when we wanted order more food or more drinks. We eventually asked another bartender to take over because of how awful "Willow" was serving us. Our experience last night makes me never want to come back. It's a great venue for music because it's small and intimate, but I was sorely disappointed with the service last night and do not want to give them my money any longer. read more

Security is overbearing, anal, display premadonna tendencies and lay their hands on people without prior intent. I accidentally dropped a $20 bill on the bar while pulling money out and one of their Bartenders picked it up, denying that they did after I asked for it when I returned just a couple of minutes after I realized what I dropped. I was sober and remembered everything (first drink of the night was being ordered). So it was my word against theirs and I didn't get my money. Their drinks are way overpriced ($9 for a Pabst Blue Ribbon? what a joke) and the quality nor quantity is any different than at any other bar. I have been living in the south bay for over a year now and I am so surprised that I have just only recently came here for the first time on Sunday night! I saw a Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds tribute band and it was awesome! The place was not packed so we were able to sit and enjoy a few drinks and jam. I can see it being more packed on Friday and Saturday nights, and when more popular bands come. But this seems like the place where I would not mind a large crowd! Drinks were excellent and reasonably priced. Didn't get anything off the food menu, but they had some good options. Will definitely be back to see some more bands! read more

My boyfriend and I frequent Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach. We really enjoy the selection of live music they bring to the intimate venue. The bar staff are friendly and helpful and make great cocktails, especially Bonnie. Hugo, the manager, is also very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the music. We always feel very safe at Saint Rocke and that is thanks to AJ, the lead bouncer and Hugo, the manager. I lived in Hermosa Beach my entire life and finally went to see a show at Saint Rocke. I have worked for and have been in charge of some of the biggest and most historic concert venues in and around Los Angeles. When I entered the venue my guest and where told by the girl at the counter that the entrance fee was $20. After handing my credit card to the girl she proceeded to run my card. She quickly had me sign the receipt and stamped our arms and we went in. I didn't notice that she had charged all of us $25 not $20 as she stated. The layout of the venue is absolutely the worst I have ever seen. The back bar has no view of the stage. And unfortunately was the only place to stand. The kitchen is placed right in the middle of the room blocking the site lines from the back bar. The bar tender was a young girl with a lot of attitude witch you would expect from a venue of this type. At one point she brought me a drink that I did not order and when I sent the drink back she gave me both barrels of her attitude. And I went to cash out, I found that she still try to charge me for the drink that she tried to force on me. When I asked her to correct the bill, she refused telling me that had the drink. Since I had a few people that witnessed what had happened I asked the young woman to speak to the manager. He corrected the bill. Or so I thought! I paid my bill and left. The next day I looked at my bank statement and noticed that not only was I over charged at the door but double charged at the bar. My recommendation is if you go to Saint Rocke bring cash and if not double check every charge. read more

I just moved to the area and was glad to find out Saint Rocke was close by. I've probably been there 6-8 times in the past 3 months and they seem to be a business that cares for the community around them. They host the Summer concert series on the beach every year and go through the bother of having 6 nights of music a week. Positives Constant music Great beer selection, many local options Good happy hour Supports local artists/community Recommendations I would recommend they offer an annual pass to mitigate cover for locals. I would go more, but have held back because I don't want to pay the cover every time. I know it's to support the artists, but is really meant for one-off visits. I would like to go any night knowing that I'm covered, even if it's prepaid. read more

I love this place! Went on a Wed. night to see Matt White. Located on the edge of Hermosa, Saint Rocke is right next to Redondo Beach. Three bands for $10 is a great deal, not to mention the unique, intimate setting. I had an excellent view from only 6 feet away... and let me tell you, Matt White is super dreamy! Decor is beautiful. Really cozy lounge seating with booths, couches and ottomans. Rich dark colors and a candlelight glow lends to the romantic vibe. A perfect place to take your sweetheart. My only complaints would be about the distracting clientele. If you ask me, a little too much yacky-yack and not enough good ol' fashioned listening to the music. A guy sitting next to me commented, "It's not like seeing live music in LA, the usual crowd here doesn't have the same type of appreciation for music." C'mon people! Last, but not least... In regards to the two drunk dancer girls: Thank you for taking the initiative to add more entertainment than what was already happening on stage, with the singing and instrument playing and what not. You girls looked super cute being the only people up and dancing while everyone else was sitting down. Kudos for not letting the very non-danceable slow jams stop you. Choreography was superb! The dance consisted of you two spinning each other around and around and after seventy or eighty times of this, it never got old for you. I must add, it was a miracle neither of you vomited. Sorry you looked like fools when after repeated attempts, no one would join you girls in your dance revolution. Too bad Matt White is'nt in the market for some backup dancers... Of course you didn't notice but he looked like he wanted to laser you into a pile of ash with his eyes. read more

I went here to see the Hapa Tour with Meiko and Marie Digby. The place is a decent size. It looked smaller on the outside. They have a back area where there were pool tables and more larger seatings. The stage is right in the front once you enter into the hallways. The food was your typical bar food nothing special (nachos, burgers, flatbreads, etc). There is one area where they had couches and that's where I sat. It wasn't the most comfortable and they were on the low side. Service was good, that one waitress was busy as she seemed to have a lot of tables but she was quick to come back with people's orders. Overall, I'll come back here if there is someone I want to see. But, not to chill at their bar though. read more

Taco Tuesdays at Saint Rocke are nice. There aren't too many customers, so it's easy to get a good table with friends and and chill out. The fish tacos I had were decent, but could have used more spice to give them that extra kick. I'm bringing some ghost pepper next time, and I've got my eye on the house special tacos. Service is attentive to patrons; they were happy to bring extra salsa and leave a water pitcher at our table. Last night they showed Labyrinth as a tribute to David Bowie on the projection screen, and all of a sudden the place really felt like a movie theater. What a time to be alive (hope that's not too soon, Ziggy). I bet the place gets poppin with a good band playing. Happy hour is from 6-8 pm on weeknights - plus Saint Rocke opens at 6, so take your time driving down from work. Overall, a very relaxing atmosphere and experience on the weekdays in Hermosa. Made it down to see Marie' Digby and it was like being made... The concert was over the top awesome and Alpha Rev rocked too, but I think this joint needs to step it up and highlight the artists much, much, much more. First, even if it is the first opening band, don't play movies or surfing vid's on the tv's while they are performing. I would feel like crap if I were singing or playing my heart out on stage and I saw people glancing over at Pirates of the Caribbean. Teahupoo has a special place for many, but WTF? Fine for changeover between acts, and fortunately this element of the space faded away as the night progressed. Showing the artists play on screen does compensate a little for those that are in the out of the way spots from the stage. Second, the space needs to be re-worked. I actually like the layout as it is a alluring variation of open space and chill spots, but it should be completely opened up to the stage. Invest in the change up and get another 100-150 ++ in the house for the artists with unobstructed views. The whole area behind the pillars ~ stage left needs to be x'd out in a major way. I understand the this arrangement is preferable for nights where live performances are not on, but there is an executive decision that's in order. And I bet it would mean more rev's for the space and the artists which is a good thing! Third, I did not stay for Marie's after concert signing, but why do you have this by the door when you have great space sitting empty on the second level???? It would be so cool if you had the artists up there instead of the hallway... Acoustics and sound were on point though I am far from an expert. 'Saint Rocke - Music + Food' are you joking?? Come up with something better. Or you could make it 'Saint Rocke - Music + Food + Drinks + Seating'? Please lose the second half of your logo as this stuff is kinda implied by your branding and PR. Speaking of the food... SUPER DELISH! I ordered what I thought would be vanilla chicken panini and it was very, very good. Did not want to stop eating. The sweet potato fires are not from this world! It was served promptly too considering the crowd. Your kitchen team is wonderful! The staff is very attentive and kind - from the bar to the servers to security and they have a tricky space to navigate. No Hollywood attitude - thx!!! I've lived in the South Bay all my life, and have never visited this venue. My daughter and I attended The Blasters show on Saturday, and I was pleasantly surprised. First of all, this is an old school concert venue. Personally, I loved the atmosphere, however, I can see how some may not. The entire staff was really nice and helpful. Our server, Kimmy, was amazing, and took great care of us. It was not crowded at all, and it seemed like there were quite a few regulars mixed in with the concert goers. We ordered the BBQ chicken flat bread. It was delish. We also had the mac & cheese, and it was just ok. The drinks were good, the service great. The smoking area is through a door, which literally has you standing on the sidewalk on PCH. Kind of bizarre, but happy they had a smoking section none-the-less! Went to see Jared Young at Saint Rocke and the show was great!! The venue was cool. There are several different zones in the bar. One area has booths, one feels like a little library, one is a dance floor in front of the stage, and finally there is an area that looks more like a dive bar away from the stage. My only complaint is the drinks were pricey. As one reviewer mentioned, it's annoying to pay a cover and still overpay for drinks one you are inside. I didn't eat, but the food the waitresses were carrying around looked good. read more

This venue was awesome. Being from Orange County, I've never made my way into Hermosa Beach to party, but my friend is the marketing manager here so I decided to make my way up for one of the concerts (Tomorrow's Bad Seed), and I totally stoked. I only wish there was a venue like this in OC. The best way to describe it is like a House of Blues (decor, lighting, style), but with more character and with a capacity of 250, instead of 2500. Here's what I loved: - Food was awesome (I'd recommend reserving a table if you want to eat) - Sound system was great - Plasma TV's everywhere (that show sports during dinner, then show the stage during shows - much like House of Blues) - The seating and standing areas are perfectly arranged so you can see the stage great from anywhere in the venue - The decor was rad and has a lot of character Why I gave it 4 stars (what I didn't like) - I wasn't drinking, but getting drinks would have been a mess because there's only 1 bar, and it's tucked in the corner - Parking can be a mess Like I said, I'd highly recommend this place, and even though it's an hour drive, I will be back for sure. This place is sick! You can hear some great bands here on Thurs-Sat night. If you get in before 6pm (I think) it's free and you can enjoy their happy hour specials. After that, you'll have to pay $15 to get in which is kind of expensive, but you'll have a great time regardless. The interior is clean and just spacious enough. Once you enter, the stage is directly to the left, and it's about a foot above the ground so you get all the action right there. There's space in front of the stage to dance or groove. There's also plenty of chairs and tables. For smokers, there's a patio outside that has flat screen TV's and a view of PCH. The best part about this place is the food. It's legit. I recommend the kobe beef sliders and hummus. read more

Ellis Hall on piano bar Tuesdays is awesome! He is too much fun! And the half-off deals on all wine and martinis on Tuesdays makes things fun too. I spent most of last night sinking ever-so-slowly into the couches and booths. They are quite comfy if you want to lounge around with your lover or soon-to-be-lover in dark corners... otherwise you might feel like you need a booster seat. The specialty martinis are all waaay too sweet for me. I stupidly ordered a Peaches'n'Creamtini last time and could not finish it. I had to wash it down with a glass of water. Blech. Oh well, at least it was only $6 last night instead of $12. But if you like the ultra-feminine sweet cocktails, go for it by all means. Keep in mind that it might just be faster to order your drink at the bar before sitting down. Our waitress was slooooowwwww.... even ordering a glass of water was a major chore. Every time I've been here, it's been very chill, not exactly my style when I feel like going out. Love the happy hour here Monday through Friday 6-8 p.m. Food and drinks all $5. Love the selection of beers on tap and they offer the full bar for happy hour choices, including top shelf liquor! I got the strawberry spinach salad the last time I went, and my husband got the beef sliders. Both were delicious! The previous time we shared the full size burger (basically the only thing not on the happy hour menu, but so worth it) with a side of their awesome, slightly spicy, brussels sprouts. Monday night is trivia night and the bar area is the perfect place to watch Monday night football while enjoying a great happy hour. The venue itself is spacious inside with lots of different seating options. There are bar stools, bar tables, large tables for groups, smaller tables for more intimate dining, etc.. It's really dark, with no natural light, so it feels very secluded. I've also been here to watch live bands play, and the venue is awesome for that, as well, Overall, I love having Saint Rocke as my neighborhood bar! read more

I've been here twice, once for a concert and the other time for monday night football happy hour. I like how everything is set up inside. All the couches and smatter of tables here and there make for a chill environment to listen to music or watch sports. Service isn't great, as it can take a reallly long time to get your order in. For a concert, I didn't notice as much, but during happy hour, I want to get my grub on while watching football. So flag a waitress early and get a giant order in that will last you a quarter. Beer was cheap and good during happy hour. I particularly liked the Red Rock Ale. Their sliders are wonderful at a dollar a piece, but the rest of the food was pretty average. They have weird "nachos" (5 coaster-sized tostadas with melted cheese and a smidgen of guac) Summary: Great concert venue and great sliders during happy hour. read more

Came here to visit my cousin who was playing the other night. Literally as soon I made contact with the dude at the counter he wanted $10.00 to get in. He failed to ask if I was on the list, which I was. This kind of annoyed me that he wanted money straight out like that, not cool. As soon as you walk in, this place is dark, quite dark for my taste. Plus, it was very crowded for a Sunday night with people of all ages. I was able to find a table in the far corner and fortunately had a good view of the stage! Service was a little slow and my table was slightly dirty. I ended up getting Seared Ahi with edamame and also got the buffalo chicken min sliders. I actually liked my seared ahi, it was lightly peppered with sesame seeds and spicy mustard(I think). On the plate was my edamame and a small side of soy sauce. The ahi tasted quite good. My other dish was the buffalo sliders. They came on nice doughy bread and was quite spicy as expected. I wish I got a beer, always next time! Each meal cost $10.00, not bad, but wanted a little cheaper, especially since it is bar food. Well, I am torn. I really enjoyed this place until the concert I was there for started. Great vibe. Great decor. Good service. Love the low lighting. Love the nooks and lounge couches. Once the concert mode got going, the place was so packed. We were in like sardines, standing for like three hours straight. It was not pleasant at all. The sound was so loud it hurt. I pretty much tried everything on the menu for Happy Hour & everything was delicious. Only thing I didn't care for was they put too much mayo on the sliders (not a fan of mayo) & the 2nd time I came here the waitress kept bringing me the wrong beer.
