My team and I love ordering from SAJJ for team lunch! Always a good choice for a delicious lunch. My goto order is the chicken shawarma rice bowl and it really good and will fill you up.

My workplace is pretty close to Sajj, so my coworkers often come here during their lunch break. Mediterranean food isn't my favorite cuisine, but I decided to tag along one day and I was pleasantly surprised. My coworkers describe this place as a "Mediterranean Chipotle" because it's very customizable and you go down the line, adding in whatever toppings and sauces you desire. For my base I chose half rice and half salad, which was a perfect combination. The only vegetarian protein was falafel, so I went with that. They gave me 4 decently sized balls of falafel that were crunchy on the outside, soft inside, and very flavorful. I got pretty much all of the vegetarian toppings: eggplant, cauliflower, cucumber tomato, beets, pickles, etc. I wasn't sure which sauces to get so I just asked for a little bit of everything: Tzatziki sauce, garlic sauce, tahini, hummus. My favorite toppings were the eggplant ragout and cauliflower. They were so well seasoned and flavorful. Every order comes with a free cup of lentil soup. I personally was not a fan of the lentil soup; it was way too salty for my taste buds. I used the Yelp check-in offer to get some free pita chips, and I really enjoyed those. They were super crunchy and flavorful on their own, but the cashier also gave me a container of hummus to dip them in, which was a nice touch. Service was friendly. The staff knew it was my first time here so they explained what each item was, which I really appreciated. My bowl was $9 + tax. Portion size could have been a bit bigger for the price. I could tell some of my coworkers were still hungry after polishing off their food. Nevertheless I really enjoyed the food here and plan to come back often with my coworkers.

Couldn't believe how much I liked this place. I'll say what everyone else has said. It's Middle Eastern Chipotle. Same restaurant feel, same vibe, same setup, same assembly line, same price point. Had a delicious salad with all kinds of chicken and spices and lentils all over it, for about $12. This place was a really pleasant surprise, and now I wish there was one in my neighborhood.

Sajj is a Mediterranean restaurant that bit Chipotle's style by offering their food in a similar process while designing the menu and layout to give people the Chipotle experience. The food is very tasty, but don't expect there to be spits with meat being carved in front of you. The food tastes authentic, but similar to Chipotle, the proteins (chicken, beef, pork) are in a tray. This means the meat can be a little dry. The few times I've been here, the meat was fine (I have only been there for lunch). Overall, the food is great! The toppings are hearty and savory. Baba ganoush, hummus, feta cheese, tzatziki, etc. If you get all toppings, you'll have a heavy bowl on your hands. This place is a copy cat Chipotle, but its good at that it does. The tamarind drink is wonderful, best I've ever had outside of Mexico.

Awful food, expensive, tiny servings, baklava not homemade, yuck. The only flavor is salt.

**Rating take out only**…read more Ordered take out for Father's Day. I got the Sultana Combo, lentil soup, and a chicken wrap. The Sultana Combo looks like not a lot of food, but is actually a lot of food! 3 adults ate this, had their fill, but still had some leftovers for the next day. My favorite part was the rice, other people's favorite parts were the veggies or the soup (we don't usually eat a lot of protein, but the protein was also good!). It's not an elevated, elegant dish, especially not to-go-ed, but it's hearty, homey, and filling. There wasn't a part we didn't like or didn't think was worth the money. They have ample indoor and some outdoor patio seating; on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, seems lime many people opted for the outdoor seating. While waiting for my pick up order, there was one party in front of me that waited for (apparently) an excessive amount of time because the kitchen was backed up. The workers were extremely kind, and even gave them baklava as an apology! Small things like that show that the store cares more for the community than just getting orders out. My only gripe is that I felt like everything was extremely salty--the three of us were chugging water all night after our meal. I think the salt levels work well if there was plain rice or plain veggies, but when everything is salted so each part of the dish can be eaten alone, you end up feeling parched and bloated at the same time... not a good feeling. Regardless, recommend!!

This was a good bread, round and splittable like a pita, served hot from the oven and sprinkled with some seeds (I think sesame, although I didn't pay close attention). 2. Meze Trio: patlican ezme (roasted eggplant, bell peppers), haydari (garlic yogurt dip with mint and dill), girit (ezine cheese with pistachios, oregano, olive oil). Loved the eggplant--tender and tasty! The yogurt dip was good, but I couldn't eat large amounts of it. The cheese was ok, a bit too heavy for us. 3. Ahtapot (grilled octopus on lime mashed potatoes and paprika butter). I didn't eat this, but the kids liked it. The octopus seemed very tender, and the potatoes were good. 4. Roka (arugula, diced cooked beets instead of tomatoes, honey mustard). Good, but the creamy dressing made it feel a little heavy after a while. 5. Mercimekli imambayildi (lentils-stuffed roasted eggplant). Imam bayildi translates as "the imam fainted" (because the dish is so delicious, maybe?). This was excellent. The eggplant had a wonderful smokey, roasted flavor. The lentils were good. There was a garlic yogurt moat around the eggplant. 6. Kunefe (shredded filo, melted cheese center, syrup, pistachios, scoop of Maras ice cream). Very good, maybe a bit too much for the three of us, maybe better if split four ways. As someone who likes Turkish food, this felt like a strong contender. Food: We started with the lahmacun which is made up of a thin Turkish flatbread topped with ground beef, tomato, onion, pepper, and garlic. It was beautifully thin and crispy, with just the right amount of topping. Honestly, add a small salad and you've got the kind of lunch that makes you feel satisfied. This lahmacun is one of the better versions I've had which made it extra tragic to learn it's a lunch-only situation. Why gatekeep happiness to daytime hours? For my entree, I ordered the Alinazik which was grilled tenderloin skewers over eggplant labneh. The beef was tender and the labneh was creamy, savory and a tad smoky. I saw that they offer a $44.95 prix fixe menu, which sounds great in theory, except for the small catch that everyone at the table has to commit. A bit of a "we ride together, we prix fixe together" situation which may not work depending on your dining companion(s) dietary restrictions. Atmosphere: The space is bright, airy, and stylish. The high ceilings resulted in lots of natural light, and a large bar that quietly suggests, "you could have a cocktail or two." One slightly odd note: The bathroom lighting is very dim. Like... "is this ambiance or did someone forget a switch?" kind of dim. Not a dealbreaker, just a curious contrast to the otherwise well-lit space. Overall: A solid pick for Turkish food in Palo Alto located off Emerson and a successful group lunch choice (I will be taking full credit). I'd happily come back to explore more of the menu. I'm already eyeing the Pirzola (bone-in lamb chops) or the Filet of Levrek (branzino) and maybe lobby for all-day lahmacun.
