I was craving tasty Mediterranean food, and Yelp to the rescue! This is supposed to be one of the better Mediterranean restaurants in Palo Alto. Oren's was fairly close to my location so that made it even more appealing. I was greeted and seated quickly. Since I was looking for a lighter meal, and there's definitely so much to choose from, I obviously had to try the hummus, and ordered it with the grilled chicken, grilled chicken. Service was pretty quick, but not anything to really write home about. Just basic. The chicken was absolutely delicious. If nothing else, go for the chicken! It was juicy, very flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. This is exactly what you want chicken to taste like. The hummus was tasty, but not as extraordinary as I was expecting. It was good nonetheless. The pita bread was OK. It did not taste as fresh as I expected it to be, and I don't know if it's made in-house or brought in. The pita wasn't anything better than what I found at a grocery store. It was a tasty meal, just not as special as I had hoped for.

Second time at Oren's. The pomegranate spread came with toasted pita chips and it was super yummy and very unique. Probably can't miss that one next time. The hummus is great, and the pitas are excellent!

    Falafel looks like a turd

Got some food to go recently. Was bummed to realize that the baklava I had paid for was not in the bag. I only realized after reaching home. I had ordered 3 items and saw 3 brown baggies so figured I'm good so didn't do detailed check(lesson learned) . The third bag was condiments eek. Also why do the falafels look like turds, so dark in color. My mom found the after taste a bit bitter and didn't enjoy it unfortunately. Hopefully it was an off day, i usually find the food very tasty from Oren's albeit tad pricy. Plus side is I really didn't need the calories from dessert.

Mediterranean cuisine is hugely popular in the Bay Area, and for some of the best on the Peninsula, you cannot go wrong with Oren's Hummus. Everything on the menu is delicious--including, of course, their assorted hummus served alongside fresh pita. But my favorite is the rice bowls, which are full of a wonderful mix of flavorful meats, fresh herbs, and homemade Tahiti sauce. It is no wonder that this small restaurant in Palo Alto has grown into one of the more iconic establishments in NorCal.

We came here for a weekend lunch and were quickly seated. The chicken was flavorful and the falafel was probably the highlight of the meal for me. Oren is famous for their hummus but it's very tahini-forward which is not my preference.

Ordered online on a Monday night to satisfy my snack craving. The hummus beef was perfect! It came with plenty of fresh crunchy veggies (cucumber, carrots, and red bell pepper) and I was able to split this into two meals. The hummus texture was perfect (not too runny or thick) and taste was on point. The meat added a nice touch. So thankful they are open later too!

Absolutely unreal - the weekend only lamb hummus is a must order. Falafel and muhamara were also solid. Friendly and prompt service, reasonable prices. Perfect if you're looking for a lowkey/casual dinner. Also love that they have a grab and go section! We left very happy.

I had the green falafel pita, which was delicious. The falafel is really really good, and also like actually bright green inside which was interesting. However I thought the pita could have used more vegetables since it was overwhelming falafel, and also more sauce since it got a little bit dry at the bottom where the sauce didn't reach maybe. Basically there was a good amount of veggies and sauce at the top of the pita but the bottom half was pretty much all falafel. Still tasted great and I would try it again since it might have just been a one off. Vegan options are labelled on the menu. Also I like that they offer both white and whole wheat pita.

Ate the beef kabob plates two nights in a row because it was so tasty. It's right near Stanford, so was convenient for out-of-towners. Great falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, Israeli salad, pickled cabbage, pita, and the hot sauces were a nice surprise--green and red. The green is the hotter of the two, but the red seemed more flavorful. Great spice on the kabobs. Nice staff, outdoor and indoor seating, take out or dine-in. The shopping center is very busy, fyi, and it's not an ambiance place, but the food is outstanding.

Came by for dinner the other night and the experience left much to be desired. This appears to be the original Oren's Hummus shop and they feature both indoor and outdoor dining. Indoor dining was very tight, like Paris tight, so tight that I smelled the BO from my neighbor...yikes... Waitstaff was efficient and provided recommendations upon sitting down. Started off wih the mushroom boureka and the filling came out cold...at least the pastry was warm and flakey on the outside?!? Our waiter suggested the Australian lamb kabob and I ordered this. Requested medium rare and the a few pieces of lamb came out raw...yikes. The plate itself was lukewarm at best. The squash also came out undercooked..yikes. Flavors on the lamb was towards the bland side...bummer.

I was searching food a good dinner spot and so happy that I found this place! The restaurant is spacious with indoor and outdoor tables. The service was so friendly! The waiter helped me with some recommendation. The hummus, the chicken, the pita bread were all so good! They use high quality ingredients as well. Even though I finished everything, I felt really good and satisfied and not bloated.

Ask the Community - Oren's Hummus

    Is the pita dairy free?

Yes, the gluten free pita is also vegan.

    Is the meat halal/zabihah here?

Is the gluten free pita vegan?

    Yes

Is the meat they serve halal/zabiha? This restaurant shows up on the halal search list on yelp but I don't see it listed on their page.

The meat is kosher and I know there's some reciprocity there.

Have the hours changed? Stopped by last night (thursday) around 7:30 pm and they were closed.

That's a question for the restaurant rather than the Yelp page. Would call or check their site instead

Did you guys also have an unfriendly unhelpful lady welcoming you at entrance ? That's a pity as food is good here

No, I've found the staff to be usually quite friendly. Maybe she had a particularly bad day? I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, especially after only one interaction.

The atmosphere was stylish, welcoming, and perfect for a relaxed evening out. We shared several Mediterranean bites, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The quality of the ingredients really stood out, and each dish was packed with flavor. It was a great addition to the meal and made the experience feel even more special. As someone who likes Turkish food, this felt like a strong contender. Food: We started with the lahmacun which is made up of a thin Turkish flatbread topped with ground beef, tomato, onion, pepper, and garlic. It was beautifully thin and crispy, with just the right amount of topping. Honestly, add a small salad and you've got the kind of lunch that makes you feel satisfied. This lahmacun is one of the better versions I've had which made it extra tragic to learn it's a lunch-only situation. Why gatekeep happiness to daytime hours? For my entree, I ordered the Alinazik which was grilled tenderloin skewers over eggplant labneh. The beef was tender and the labneh was creamy, savory and a tad smoky. I saw that they offer a $44.95 prix fixe menu, which sounds great in theory, except for the small catch that everyone at the table has to commit. A bit of a "we ride together, we prix fixe together" situation which may not work depending on your dining companion(s) dietary restrictions. Atmosphere: The space is bright, airy, and stylish. The high ceilings resulted in lots of natural light, and a large bar that quietly suggests, "you could have a cocktail or two." One slightly odd note: The bathroom lighting is very dim. Like... "is this ambiance or did someone forget a switch?" kind of dim. Not a dealbreaker, just a curious contrast to the otherwise well-lit space. Overall: A solid pick for Turkish food in Palo Alto located off Emerson and a successful group lunch choice (I will be taking full credit). I'd happily come back to explore more of the menu. I'm already eyeing the Pirzola (bone-in lamb chops) or the Filet of Levrek (branzino) and maybe lobby for all-day lahmacun.

The Sultana Combo looks like not a lot of food, but is actually a lot of food! 3 adults ate this, had their fill, but still had some leftovers for the next day. My favorite part was the rice, other people's favorite parts were the veggies or the soup (we don't usually eat a lot of protein, but the protein was also good!). It's not an elevated, elegant dish, especially not to-go-ed, but it's hearty, homey, and filling. There wasn't a part we didn't like or didn't think was worth the money. They have ample indoor and some outdoor patio seating; on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, seems lime many people opted for the outdoor seating. While waiting for my pick up order, there was one party in front of me that waited for (apparently) an excessive amount of time because the kitchen was backed up. The workers were extremely kind, and even gave them baklava as an apology! Small things like that show that the store cares more for the community than just getting orders out. My only gripe is that I felt like everything was extremely salty--the three of us were chugging water all night after our meal. I think the salt levels work well if there was plain rice or plain veggies, but when everything is salted so each part of the dish can be eaten alone, you end up feeling parched and bloated at the same time... not a good feeling. Regardless, recommend!!
