We usually order takeout from here, and their sandwiches are always excellent--the tahini sauces are especially delicious. This time, we decided to dine in. Unfortunately, something felt a bit off with the food. The meat we ordered was quite tough, which was disappointing compared to our previous experiences. That said, the service was very good. They responded quickly, showed genuine care, and made an effort to fix the situation right away, which we really appreciated.

Today I tried their prepackaged chunky eggplant dip and it was sooo delicious. I have also had their green falafel pita before but I preferred the dip. These were all delivered orders, I would love to come in person to try one of their hummus bowls. The menu is extremely vegan friendly.

Second time at Oren's. The pomegranate spread came with toasted pita chips and it was super yummy and very unique. Probably can't miss that one next time. The hummus is great, and the pitas are excellent!

I was craving tasty Mediterranean food, and Yelp to the rescue! This is supposed to be one of the better Mediterranean restaurants in Palo Alto. Oren's was fairly close to my location so that made it even more appealing. I was greeted and seated quickly. Since I was looking for a lighter meal, and there's definitely so much to choose from, I obviously had to try the hummus, and ordered it with the grilled chicken, grilled chicken. Service was pretty quick, but not anything to really write home about. Just basic. The chicken was absolutely delicious. If nothing else, go for the chicken! It was juicy, very flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. This is exactly what you want chicken to taste like. The hummus was tasty, but not as extraordinary as I was expecting. It was good nonetheless. The pita bread was OK. It did not taste as fresh as I expected it to be, and I don't know if it's made in-house or brought in. The pita wasn't anything better than what I found at a grocery store. It was a tasty meal, just not as special as I had hoped for.

    Falafel looks like a turd

Got some food to go recently. Was bummed to realize that the baklava I had paid for was not in the bag. I only realized after reaching home. I had ordered 3 items and saw 3 brown baggies so figured I'm good so didn't do detailed check(lesson learned) . The third bag was condiments eek. Also why do the falafels look like turds, so dark in color. My mom found the after taste a bit bitter and didn't enjoy it unfortunately. Hopefully it was an off day, i usually find the food very tasty from Oren's albeit tad pricy. Plus side is I really didn't need the calories from dessert.

Oren's Hummus totally hits if you're craving Mediterranean food. It's also a great location to entertain and walk around, with a casual but elevated atmosphere. For lunch on a weekday, we were seated right away to enjoy our meal in the outdoor seating. Hummus Chicken (5/5) - the chicken was so flavorful and juicy!! I loved loved this dish and would come back. The pitas that came with to dip the chicken were soft and pillowy - a perfect accompaniment to the hummus. I loved adding the slaw that was served on the table with my bites of chicken and hummus to add a bit of acid to the dish. Overall, great, and I'd return for more!

Mediterranean cuisine is hugely popular in the Bay Area, and for some of the best on the Peninsula, you cannot go wrong with Oren's Hummus. Everything on the menu is delicious--including, of course, their assorted hummus served alongside fresh pita. But my favorite is the rice bowls, which are full of a wonderful mix of flavorful meats, fresh herbs, and homemade Tahiti sauce. It is no wonder that this small restaurant in Palo Alto has grown into one of the more iconic establishments in NorCal.

We came here for a weekend lunch and were quickly seated. The chicken was flavorful and the falafel was probably the highlight of the meal for me. Oren is famous for their hummus but it's very tahini-forward which is not my preference.

Ordered online on a Monday night to satisfy my snack craving. The hummus beef was perfect! It came with plenty of fresh crunchy veggies (cucumber, carrots, and red bell pepper) and I was able to split this into two meals. The hummus texture was perfect (not too runny or thick) and taste was on point. The meat added a nice touch. So thankful they are open later too!

Absolutely unreal - the weekend only lamb hummus is a must order. Falafel and muhamara were also solid. Friendly and prompt service, reasonable prices. Perfect if you're looking for a lowkey/casual dinner. Also love that they have a grab and go section! We left very happy.

Ate the beef kabob plates two nights in a row because it was so tasty. It's right near Stanford, so was convenient for out-of-towners. Great falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, Israeli salad, pickled cabbage, pita, and the hot sauces were a nice surprise--green and red. The green is the hotter of the two, but the red seemed more flavorful. Great spice on the kabobs. Nice staff, outdoor and indoor seating, take out or dine-in. The shopping center is very busy, fyi, and it's not an ambiance place, but the food is outstanding.

Oren's Hummus Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Oren's Hummus

    Is the pita dairy free?

Yes, the gluten free pita is also vegan.

    Is the meat halal/zabihah here?

The meat is kosher. I know there is some reciprocity between the two diets

Is the gluten free pita vegan?

    Yes

Is the meat they serve halal/zabiha? This restaurant shows up on the halal search list on yelp but I don't see it listed on their page.

The meat is kosher and I know there's some reciprocity there.

Have the hours changed? Stopped by last night (thursday) around 7:30 pm and they were closed.

That's a question for the restaurant rather than the Yelp page. Would call or check their site instead

Did you guys also have an unfriendly unhelpful lady welcoming you at entrance ? That's a pity as food is good here

No, I've found the staff to be usually quite friendly. Maybe she had a particularly bad day? I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, especially after only one interaction.

A fun way to start is to get Raki, which is like the Turkish equivalent of ouzo, but you have to like anise/licorice. Onto food: We had a group of 4 and ordered everything family style. - Girit: a garlic and spice whipped cheese with pistachios, great with bread. - Pancar: roasted yellow and red beets with Turkish white cheese. - Uc Borek: 3 phyllo rolls: they're fairly small, so it's hard for more than 3-4 people to share (1 bite each). One is zucchini, one is cheese, and one has beef. Beef was my favorite - Ahtapot: fire grilled octopus with a bean spread. - Ege Salatasi: similar to a Greek salad with tomatoes (so good in summer!), green bell peppers, onions, cucumber, croutons, Turkish white cheese, olives. - Chilean sea bass: loved the Aegean greens with this. The sea bass was so flavorful and was a generous portion. - Alinazik: beef tenderloin skewers with smoked eggplant labneh. As much as Mazra is great at/known for their meats, they also put so much thought and care into their vegetables. For example, our favorite mezza is their Whole Cauliflower, which is a massive cauliflower head that's roasted and then coated with a lemon tahini dressing. (They also give you more lemon to squeeze on it.) The cauliflower always comes out perfectly roasted; the inner parts are tender and toothsome, while the outer parts are crispy and a deep, golden brown. Another great vegetable option is their Veggie Plate, which is a plate overflowing with delights on a bed of their rice: falafel; a segment of their cauliflower; roasted broccoli and potatoes; their saffron mushrooms; and a halloumi roll. Each item is about as perfect as can be, and the sheer quantity makes it a fantastic deal. Of course, we still love their shawarma plates, which you can get with either chicken or steak shawarma. The meat comes thinly cut and tender, and somehow still a bit juicy! The plates are also a great value, since they come with a ton of great items that pair well with the meat. These include a rich, savory sauce (toum [garlic sauce] with the chicken, tahini with the steak) and two of their amazing sides. My favorite sides are the baba ghannoush (creamy and earthy) and their fries (golden, crispy, and pillowy). They continue improving the space, too. The pickup window makes it so much easier to get takeout, and they've really dialed in the flow of the inside and back courtyard seating areas.
