I was craving tasty Mediterranean food, and Yelp to the rescue! This is supposed to be one of the better Mediterranean restaurants in Palo Alto. Oren's was fairly close to my location so that made it even more appealing. I was greeted and seated quickly. Since I was looking for a lighter meal, and there's definitely so much to choose from, I obviously had to try the hummus, and ordered it with the grilled chicken, grilled chicken. Service was pretty quick, but not anything to really write home about. Just basic. The chicken was absolutely delicious. If nothing else, go for the chicken! It was juicy, very flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. This is exactly what you want chicken to taste like. The hummus was tasty, but not as extraordinary as I was expecting. It was good nonetheless. The pita bread was OK. It did not taste as fresh as I expected it to be, and I don't know if it's made in-house or brought in. The pita wasn't anything better than what I found at a grocery store. It was a tasty meal, just not as special as I had hoped for.

Wow, my first time and this was great! The chicken appetizer was so good! So was the Kale spinach dip, and the hummus! Definitely gotta come back and try again!

    Falafel looks like a turd

Got some food to go recently. Was bummed to realize that the baklava I had paid for was not in the bag. I only realized after reaching home. I had ordered 3 items and saw 3 brown baggies so figured I'm good so didn't do detailed check(lesson learned) . The third bag was condiments eek. Also why do the falafels look like turds, so dark in color. My mom found the after taste a bit bitter and didn't enjoy it unfortunately. Hopefully it was an off day, i usually find the food very tasty from Oren's albeit tad pricy. Plus side is I really didn't need the calories from dessert.

We came here for a weekend lunch and were quickly seated. The chicken was flavorful and the falafel was probably the highlight of the meal for me. Oren is famous for their hummus but it's very tahini-forward which is not my preference.

Ordered online on a Monday night to satisfy my snack craving. The hummus beef was perfect! It came with plenty of fresh crunchy veggies (cucumber, carrots, and red bell pepper) and I was able to split this into two meals. The hummus texture was perfect (not too runny or thick) and taste was on point. The meat added a nice touch. So thankful they are open later too!

Absolutely unreal - the weekend only lamb hummus is a must order. Falafel and muhamara were also solid. Friendly and prompt service, reasonable prices. Perfect if you're looking for a lowkey/casual dinner. Also love that they have a grab and go section! We left very happy.

Mediterranean cuisine is hugely popular in the Bay Area, and for some of the best on the Peninsula, you cannot go wrong with Oren's Hummus. Everything on the menu is delicious--including, of course, their assorted hummus served alongside fresh pita. But my favorite is the rice bowls, which are full of a wonderful mix of flavorful meats, fresh herbs, and homemade Tahiti sauce. It is no wonder that this small restaurant in Palo Alto has grown into one of the more iconic establishments in NorCal.

I had the green falafel pita, which was delicious. The falafel is really really good, and also like actually bright green inside which was interesting. However I thought the pita could have used more vegetables since it was overwhelming falafel, and also more sauce since it got a little bit dry at the bottom where the sauce didn't reach maybe. Basically there was a good amount of veggies and sauce at the top of the pita but the bottom half was pretty much all falafel. Still tasted great and I would try it again since it might have just been a one off. Vegan options are labelled on the menu. Also I like that they offer both white and whole wheat pita.

Ate the beef kabob plates two nights in a row because it was so tasty. It's right near Stanford, so was convenient for out-of-towners. Great falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, Israeli salad, pickled cabbage, pita, and the hot sauces were a nice surprise--green and red. The green is the hotter of the two, but the red seemed more flavorful. Great spice on the kabobs. Nice staff, outdoor and indoor seating, take out or dine-in. The shopping center is very busy, fyi, and it's not an ambiance place, but the food is outstanding.

Came by for dinner the other night and the experience left much to be desired. This appears to be the original Oren's Hummus shop and they feature both indoor and outdoor dining. Indoor dining was very tight, like Paris tight, so tight that I smelled the BO from my neighbor...yikes... Waitstaff was efficient and provided recommendations upon sitting down. Started off wih the mushroom boureka and the filling came out cold...at least the pastry was warm and flakey on the outside?!? Our waiter suggested the Australian lamb kabob and I ordered this. Requested medium rare and the a few pieces of lamb came out raw...yikes. The plate itself was lukewarm at best. The squash also came out undercooked..yikes. Flavors on the lamb was towards the bland side...bummer.

Food is good .. my favorite is the kebab and falafel. The service is ok and friendly . If you in the area and craving for Mediterranean food this is the place.

I was searching food a good dinner spot and so happy that I found this place! The restaurant is spacious with indoor and outdoor tables. The service was so friendly! The waiter helped me with some recommendation. The hummus, the chicken, the pita bread were all so good! They use high quality ingredients as well. Even though I finished everything, I felt really good and satisfied and not bloated.

Is the gluten free pita vegan?

    Yes

Is the meat they serve halal/zabiha? This restaurant shows up on the halal search list on yelp but I don't see it listed on their page.

The meat is kosher and I know there's some reciprocity there.

Have the hours changed? Stopped by last night (thursday) around 7:30 pm and they were closed.

That's a question for the restaurant rather than the Yelp page. Would call or check their site instead

Did you guys also have an unfriendly unhelpful lady welcoming you at entrance ? That's a pity as food is good here

No, I've found the staff to be usually quite friendly. Maybe she had a particularly bad day? I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt, especially after only one interaction.

But the real star of the night was the paella. OMG. It was SO good. We ordered the squid ink paella with scallops, and it was absolutely outstanding--perfectly cooked, rich in flavor, and easily one of the best paellas we've had in the Bay Area. Looking around, the other paellas coming out of the kitchen looked amazing as well. The special suckling pig did not disappoint either. The skin was extra crispy while the meat remained juicy and flavorful. Drinks were also on point, and the tableside sangria experience added a fun touch. What made the night memorable, though, was not just the food--it was the service and the restaurant's commitment to taking care of their guests. Our server, Alma (hopefully I got her name right), was incredibly attentive and offered excellent recommendations throughout the meal. As the restaurant became busier, it was clear she was juggling many tables, and we ended up waiting a bit to get our leftovers boxed and later to receive a dessert menu. Before we even had to say anything, both Alma and the manager noticed the delay. They came over to apologize and even treated us to a complimentary key lime pie. Honestly, that wasn't what we expected or were looking for, but it spoke volumes about the restaurant's culture and their genuine desire to make things right whenever something falls short. We started with a mezze platter featuring delicious spreads, pastries, and felafel, followed by a mixed green salad that showcased some of the best burrata we've ever had, topped with tiny, sweet berries. Our main courses were equally memorable: a stunning Fesenjoon pomegranate-walnut chicken stew with a perfect balance of slightly sweet and tart, and a side of basmati rice studded with almonds, pistachios, berries, and orange peel. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, unique, and delicious. But what truly made the evening special was the service and genuine hospitality. Serdar, our server, was remarkably warm and attentive. We had fascinating conversations with him about his world travels, the uniqueness of Persian cuisine, and his recommendations for authentic Turkish breakfast and dinner spots (he's half Greek and half Turkish, which made his recommendations all the more authentic and personal). Mehdi introduced himself during the meal and checked in on us with a genuine interest in our experience, not just as a manager, but as someone who truly cares. When we mentioned we had no room for dessert, Mehdi surprised us with a beautifully presented pistachio-saffron ice cream served in an ornate bowl made of ice--a perfect final touch that felt like a work of art. This visit demonstrated that Arya is a restaurant that listens, cares, and delivers on its promise to provide not just excellent food, but genuine hospitality. We left feeling valued and delighted.

So yummy! I came here with my mom for a celebration and it's just delicious. We both agreed it was…read morealso some of the best service we've received in a long long time. I forget our waitresses name but she was a brunette who started off the night with a joke about going by another name if we didn't like her. She was amazing! I recommend getting the tasting menu, especially if you're unfamiliar with the cuisine. We loved the cold apps and the kebabs. The rice pudding dessert is an absolute killer.

I was put in charge of finding a group lunch spot (a responsibility I do not take lightly), and…read moreafter a bit of digging, landed on Meyhouse on Emerson in Palo Alto. As someone who likes Turkish food, this felt like a strong contender. Food: We started with the lahmacun which is made up of a thin Turkish flatbread topped with ground beef, tomato, onion, pepper, and garlic. It was beautifully thin and crispy, with just the right amount of topping. Honestly, add a small salad and you've got the kind of lunch that makes you feel satisfied. This lahmacun is one of the better versions I've had which made it extra tragic to learn it's a lunch-only situation. Why gatekeep happiness to daytime hours? For my entree, I ordered the Alinazik which was grilled tenderloin skewers over eggplant labneh. The beef was tender and the labneh was creamy, savory and a tad smoky. I saw that they offer a $44.95 prix fixe menu, which sounds great in theory, except for the small catch that everyone at the table has to commit. A bit of a "we ride together, we prix fixe together" situation which may not work depending on your dining companion(s) dietary restrictions. Atmosphere: The space is bright, airy, and stylish. The high ceilings resulted in lots of natural light, and a large bar that quietly suggests, "you could have a cocktail or two." One slightly odd note: The bathroom lighting is very dim. Like... "is this ambiance or did someone forget a switch?" kind of dim. Not a dealbreaker, just a curious contrast to the otherwise well-lit space. Overall: A solid pick for Turkish food in Palo Alto located off Emerson and a successful group lunch choice (I will be taking full credit). I'd happily come back to explore more of the menu. I'm already eyeing the Pirzola (bone-in lamb chops) or the Filet of Levrek (branzino) and maybe lobby for all-day lahmacun.
