We stopped into Meyhouse in Palo Alto for some Mediterranean cuisine and happy hour cocktails and had a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was stylish, welcoming, and perfect for a relaxed evening out. We shared several Mediterranean bites, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The quality of the ingredients really stood out, and each dish was packed with flavor. The cocktails were excellent, and my husband especially enjoyed the Japanese whiskey flight, which was a fun way to sample a variety of unique whiskeys. It was a great addition to the meal and made the experience feel even more special. As fans of Pera Mezze House in Roseville, we were excited to learn that Meyhouse shares the same ownership, and the same attention to quality and hospitality definitely shines through. I've been to the Sunnyvale location of Meyhouse a few times but never the Palo Alto one, which is turns out also has live jazz (not in the main dining room). A fun way to start is to get Raki, which is like the Turkish equivalent of ouzo, but you have to like anise/licorice. They have a few options available, and our Turkish server was helpful when we were trying to choose one. They do have a full bar available. Onto food: We had a group of 4 and ordered everything family style. - Girit: a garlic and spice whipped cheese with pistachios, great with bread. - Pancar: roasted yellow and red beets with Turkish white cheese. - Uc Borek: 3 phyllo rolls: they're fairly small, so it's hard for more than 3-4 people to share (1 bite each). One is zucchini, one is cheese, and one has beef. Beef was my favorite - Ahtapot: fire grilled octopus with a bean spread. - Ege Salatasi: similar to a Greek salad with tomatoes (so good in summer!), green bell peppers, onions, cucumber, croutons, Turkish white cheese, olives. - Chilean sea bass: loved the Aegean greens with this. The sea bass was so flavorful and was a generous portion. - Alinazik: beef tenderloin skewers with smoked eggplant labneh. Desserts: - Kunefe: melted mozzarella filling coated in phyllo, served warm. - Damla sakizli: their homemade mastika ice cream, which pairs wonderfully with the kunefe It's best to go with a group so that you can try more dishes. Everything had bold Mediterranean/Middle Eastern flavors, and our server was really helpful when we were trying to decide on dishes. This one was a hard one to write because I have mixed reviews and different experiences so I'll break down the two experiences I've had. First experience: 5/5 stars My wife and I came here for a jazz session in a private room at the back of the restaurant. We did the chef's tasting menu, and the food was fantastic. There was more than enough food for the 2 of ys and the portions were plentiful. Service was superb and the overall experience was great. Second Experience: 2/5 stars I brought my mom here for her 70th birthday because we had such a great experience before. We ended sitting in the main dining room for a party of 7, and we all did the chef tasting menu. This is where things became disappointing: * the amount of food that they brought out wasn't enough for seven people * their language in the menu regarding the corkage fee was unclear on - it says, "Corkage is $35 for the first two 750 ml bottles," which even the waiter clarified it was $35 for 2 bottles. However, when we got the bill, we got charged $35 per each bottle. I brought it up with the waiter and he denied ever saying that, despite the whole table hearing his explicit confirmation that it would be a $35 charge for both. * this is where the experience became negatively memorable - when they brought out the dessert and a birthday celebration, which was a baklava, they did a really tacky thing of taking one of the pieces of the baklava for the table and putting it on a separate plate with a candle on top of it as the birthday treat. This was extremely off putting and comes off as cheap, especially after our meal was $1000+. I felt embarrassed as I had raved about this place to my family. I was put in charge of finding a group lunch spot (a responsibility I do not take lightly), and after a bit of digging, landed on Meyhouse on Emerson in Palo Alto. As someone who likes Turkish food, this felt like a strong contender. Food: We started with the lahmacun which is made up of a thin Turkish flatbread topped with ground beef, tomato, onion, pepper, and garlic. It was beautifully thin and crispy, with just the right amount of topping. Honestly, add a small salad and you've got the kind of lunch that makes you feel satisfied. This lahmacun is one of the better versions I've had which made it extra tragic to learn it's a lunch-only situation. Why gatekeep happiness to daytime hours? For my entree, I ordered the Alinazik which was grilled tenderloin skewers over eggplant labneh. The beef was tender and the labneh was creamy, savory and a tad smoky. I saw that they offer a $44.95 prix fixe menu, which sounds great in theory, except for the small catch that everyone at the table has to commit. A bit of a "we ride together, we prix fixe together" situation which may not work depending on your dining companion(s) dietary restrictions. Atmosphere: The space is bright, airy, and stylish. The high ceilings resulted in lots of natural light, and a large bar that quietly suggests, "you could have a cocktail or two." One slightly odd note: The bathroom lighting is very dim. Like... "is this ambiance or did someone forget a switch?" kind of dim. Not a dealbreaker, just a curious contrast to the otherwise well-lit space. Overall: A solid pick for Turkish food in Palo Alto located off Emerson and a successful group lunch choice (I will be taking full credit). I'd happily come back to explore more of the menu. So yummy! I came here with my mom for a celebration and it's just delicious. We both agreed it was also some of the best service we've received in a long long time. I forget our waitresses name but she was a brunette who started off the night with a joke about going by another name if we didn't like her. She was amazing! Meyhouse is fantastic! I made a same-day lunch reservation for our party of 6. The interior was well-lit and elegantly decorated, with a large fish decor piece above the bar. We skipped drinks and ordered food right away, family-style. We started with the Girit, Kopoglu, Lahmacun, and Beef Manti. All of these were delicious! The Girit and Kopoglu went great with the complimentary fresh bread. Both the Lahmacun and Beef Manti were super flavorful and easy to share. We came here for dinner on New Years Eve. Lots of places were offering NYE set menus, but we landed on this restaurant because it still kept their usual menu offerings. We felt like it was a nice place to celebrate without having to pay an exorbitant price. We had a reservation for 5:30 pm, but we arrived about 20 mins early. Despite that, the hostess sat us down at our table ahead of our reservation time. We wanted to explore a little bit of the menu, so we opted to share Turkish Manti, we each got our own entrees and sides (him the Dill Potato Wedges + Alinazik and me the Cemenli Tavuk + Limon Patates), and ended by sharing desserts (Sobiyet + Turkish ice cream). The evening started with complimentary fresh baked bread with their dipping sauce. Loved the bread, and they even offered to refresh our bread basket once we finished! The manti first came out and while the dish was delicious (nice chew on the dumplings, the beef and garlic sauce complemented each other so well), only 5 pieces was provided in the $19 appetizer, which was a little steep. The entrees and sides came out next. We enjoyed each our entrees, although I liked my Tavuk better since the chicken was pretty juicy. I tried a little bit of his Alinazik and the beef seemed a little dry but was still tasty. I also tried his potato wedges, and I personally liked them better than my limon patates. The patates packed a lot of herby flavor, which I think would better suit someone who enjoys an herb-packed dish. The desserts were wonderful though! I enjoyed the ice cream better since it wasn't as sweet and had that nice textural pull to it, but the Sobiyet is very rich in flavor and packed with that syrupy sweetness. A few bites of the Sobiyet was definitely more than enough for me! Our server was very attentive, regularly checking in on us and making sure all was going well. This was such a beautiful establishment with beautiful decor, and friendly staff. From the hostess to the server to the guys refilling the water and clearing the table. I enjoyed my lamb chops, which is something that I enjoy eating. I appreciate the fact they allowed me to have the sauce on the side because I wouldn't have liked it. Can I just tell you how awesome this place is?! Trust me, I have tried Turkish restaurants that were not the best, and let me just say this one, and its other restaurant in Sunnyvale are the bomb!! Located right in downtown on Emerson lies this gem. What I would suggest, and love here are the following, and I must say, I do thank a former colleague and friend of mine who turned me onto this establishment at the one in Sunnyvale, and this person is from France and has a very critical palate, but probably not as picky as I am. So I have only gone for lunch, as I did in Sunnyvale. What I enjoyed here was the following. I really liked the spicy beef kebab with their Turkish rice and tomato and onion salad. Very good. What I really like about their presentation is the Mediterranean component, which is big for me. Technically, Turkish is located in Western Asia. Somehow it has this Mediterranean Middle Eastern twist that resonates with me, could be my Spanish/Italian roots, not sure. But I really like this place! Now if you are budget conscience, this probably is not the place for you. But if you are looking for an upscale Turkish experience, you have landed! You must try it, you will like it. We popped in without reservations and were fortunate to grab seats at the bar, as then tables quickly filled up. With my sister-in-law having a strong Turkish background, we let her order our spread... which means I can't tell you what exactly I had! What I do know- THIS is where you come to for a true authentic immersion into Turkish cuisine. Each dish was perfectly seasoned and left you wanting more (especially when you're sharing with others!) When I made a reservation for this place, I had slight hesitations but given the great reviews and how this was a more elevated restaurant, I thought it was worth a shot. I have never done that before so I hope this speaks volume to what I think about my experience! Delicious things I ate: -Kopoglu (oven roasted eggplants over garlic yogurt): phenomenal. Use the bread to soak up alllll the sauce. I wish I could have this again. -octopus: a crowd pleaser. It was super tender! A solid choice but not the star of the appetizers that we ate. -beef tongue: think sliced but seasoned so well! I never had beef tongue like this. There were some pieces that were super tender and some pieces that were super chewy. The sauce was very good. I thought this was a solid choice but if I were to go again, I would not order. Service was also really good! Our water was always filled. Waiter gave great recommendations. Our table was cleaned. Our plates were switched when transitioning to main dishes. Our bread bowl was consistently being refilled without being asked. We received a complimentary birthday dessert even after declining a dessert menu. And the most notable thing about our waiter is that we thought he was very honest. We initially ordered a salad and he actually recommended that we may not need it because there was a side of salad with the Branzino. We were pretty torn (gotta get your veggies in!) but he thought we could go without the dedicated salad. This waiter could have taken advantage of us not knowing the portions (or just not care) but he highly suggested on holding off on the salad. Our party greatly appreciated his honesty. Iran so Far Away Located at the former Godon Biersch Brewery, this former popular pop-up went brick-and-mortar with their first restaurant in DT Sunnyvale, and then quickly opened this second location in DT Palo Alto in 2024. They serve up a myriad of Middle Eastern cuisines, but lean heavily into the Turkish side of things. While known for their great food, they're also renowned for their live music which has carried over from their pop-up days. The Good: *Reservations via OpenTable *Small dog-friendly outdoor seating *Friendly service *Lamb and chicken are Halal (if you care). The beef is not. *Vegetarian and gluten-free options *Jazz events (check the website for dates and times) *Three-Course Lunch prix fixe was a great deal for $40/ea. You each get a selection of an app, main, and dessert. *Full bar *The Mesquite-grilled octopus was cooked superbly, as it was soft like buttah and had a great flavor. *Lamb was also cooked perfectly, as it was nice and med-rare and seasoned well. *A lot of the items are cooked in either the stone oven or the live fire mesquite grill. *Their Kunefe might be the best one I've ever had. For the uninitiated, Kunefe is a cheese-based Middle Eastern desert that's topped with crispy phyllo dough and soaked in a rosewater syrup. It sounds wild, but just go with it. You'll thank me later. The Meh: *$25/per reservation cancelation fee if canceled less than 24hrs in advance. *They close btwn lunch and dinner (btwn 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.) *There was some confusion when they handed us a lunch menu and a dinner menu and Carissa and I couldn't figure out what the other one was talking about. Definitely a "Who's on First?" moment. The Ugly: *Paid street or garage Parking only, and it can be difficult to find during busier hours. Loved this place!! Everything was so tasty. We went with the prix fixe for lunch that included a starter, entree and dessert. Everything was so good that I can't think of anything that wasn't delicious. That kanafa was the best kanafa we've ever had and that's saying a lot with John's parents being Palestinian and making kanafa often. We each got our own personal size kanafa and I was so full but I couldn't stop eating it--it was that good. The only negative that I can think of was that the tables are too close together making your experience a bit too cramped for my liking. And I was searching for someone to fill up my water glass. But both are small issues that I can easily look past them. Next time we will try the Sunnyvale location just for shits and giggles. But this place should be on the Michelin Guide. My best friend brought me here for my bday! We got massages at Watercourse Way, showered, did our hair and make up and walked to Meyhouse feeling relaxed, unbothered, ready to try new foods. Meyhouse had many tables reserved, but they found a place for us at the bar. Although the bar was the last choice for our meal, the bartenders made our night memorable. Since this was our first time here, we wanted to get recommendations for great dishes. The bartender Deniz was amazing to us. Patient, kind, listened, and gave us amazing service. We were given new silverware and flatware for every dish, our waters were full, and we were checked on every ten minutes. It was fantastic attention. The food was delectable. We got an eggplant dish, a dumpling dish, and a beef dish. All of it served with bread. Everything was cooked beautifully. The mantisi was probably frozen, as parts of it were hard, but they were still amazing in the yogurt sauce. This restaurant was gorgeous, clean bathrooms, and fast service. Sometimes an experience at a restaurant can be so good. You're not quite sure where to start on the review. With MeyHouse I know exactly where to start - with 5 stars! From the ambience, to the service, to the food - your experience will be warm, inviting, flavorful, intriguing and positively surprising! I was invited by a very special friend and client. We were celebrating 10 years of working together and also to kick off our newest project. This was my first time here. I was immediately impressed with the design and fine detail details throughout the restaurant. In fact there is an amazing carving over the bar. When I commented, it turns out one of the owners hand carved the piece himself. Simply amazing. Turns out all of the individual lights hanging throughout. We're also handmade by one of the owners. I witnessed the owners participate throughout the restaurant. Making sure the guest were well taken care of, addressing questions from the staff, dropping in on the kitchen. You could see the passion. And now for the food: Colorful, vibrant, flavorful, unique. Simply extraordinary. Every bite from appetizer through small plate through main course and then dessert was an epicurean experience. I have no complaints at all: the venue is gorgeous, the service is gracious and efficient, and the food is delicious. However, I'm completely unacquainted with Turkish cuisine and not really able to make any comparisons, so rating a 4 for now. If you're into Jazz, the backroom venue is intimate and lovely, and your ticket includes your dinner reservation. While the entrees were good, I felt like the Turkish flavors shined in the small plates. The beef tenderloin was perfectly prepared as was the chicken breast and sea bass. The chicken was quite juicy. Our one major disappointment was the $39 charge for the veggies. We imagined a well prepared grilled veggies dish but it was literally onions, tomatoes and bell peppers grilled over a bed of the eggplant labne. Save your money here and skip this. I've been to Meyhouse three times now, and I can't stop recommending it to friends enough! Everything they're is great! We've order so many of tht appetizers, and nothing has been bad. I don't know the Turkish names of them all, but we got the spicy yogurt, yogurt with peppers, yogurt with dumplings, hummus with beef, lentil soup, veal sweetbreads, and more for appetizers. Not to mention, their bread is out of this world! Usually we get the shareable meat plate for everyone for entree, because it includes lamb chops, chicken, multiples types of beef, and a tomato salad. It's so good! For dessert I would go for the kanafe and profiteroles. And the dry sage tea was a nice end to the meal! Definitely will be back again read more

Can't remember the names but the following appetizers were really tasty: -beets with feta cheese -octopus -cabbage stuffed with rice -broiled shrimp in a tomato sauce & cheese There's a lot more to it with other ingredients but you get the gist. Our party of 3 also shared the beef kebab, branzino & lamb chops entree which were all great too. Glad I changed Mother's Day lunch reservations to this place but would've checked it out eventually. Visited twice for dinner, and both experiences were superb. The staff are friendly, attentive, and welcoming, and the food has been consistently delicious. I especially love trying a variety of appetizers here--every single dish we ordered was excellent. The main courses and desserts were just as impressive, so honestly, you'll want to try as many dishes as possible. The restaurant also has a nice, relaxed vibe, and my child loves this place so much. I came here on a Wednesday night with a party of 8. I thought the restaurant had good ambiance, nice lighting and overall vibe. The service was excellent 5/5. The servers and staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and hospitable -- definitely made the dining experience so much better. They were very accommodating for the large party and we stayed late but didn't feel pressured to leave, so we were extremely appreciative. They asked us what we were celebrating and brought us a dessert with a candle on it. Food was incredible 5/5. It was my first time having Turkish cuisine and wow, I was so impressed by everything I tried. The dishes were extremely flavorful and I thought the meat was very rich and tender. Finally got to try this Turkish restaurant. I heard lots of good feedback from this place from different groups of friends. We went here for my friend's birthday and she had a good time. The birthday girl picked the food for us to try (she's Turkish). I couldn't remember the names of some of them, but they are all delicious. The Borek (appetizer/side) is a solid favorite. It's a thin pastry wrap with mainly cheese filling inside. We also tried the Turkmen Mantisi, it's their version of dumplings, very flavorful. The main plate, we have kofte with a salad on side.and she also ordered the plate with ground beef wrap. For dessert, we have the profiterole and kunefe. Both will surely satisfy your sweet cravings. Kunefe tastes close to baklava. Everything is delicious. The place is beautiful. It's a nice restaurant to celebrate special occasions or treat yourself to a good meal. We came here to celebrate our friend's birthday and were greeted with a nice HBD placecard at the table. The starters really shine here: We were in heaven with the generous basket of complimentary bread and lemon dipping oil! Don't sleep on the karidesli enginar (artichoke with poached shrimp) and the kopoglu (eggplant, peppers and yogurt), which I generously spread on that Turkish bread! The birthday girl also enjoyed the levrek marin (lemon cured sea bass). Get these and you'll be a happy camper. The octopus had an amazing smoke flavor, but I found it a bit mushy. The flatbreads are only available during lunch so of course we had to get one! We got the Lahmacun, which I've had at other Turkish restaurants and I'd say this one is pretty standard (ok). The lamb chops, ordered medium rare, were all well done except near the bone it was medium rare. So yah, the well done parts were pretty dry. We contemplated sending them back, but were so full we just took them home. The Chilean sea bass was cooked well and had good flavor, but we wouldn't jump at ordering either entrees again. Profiteroles: meh too. It was a nice gesture with the birthday baklava and candle on the house. As of this review, there's a $1-2 discrepancy per starter and $3 per entree on their printed restaurant menu versus online. I just noticed this as I'm writing the review and comparing our receipt with what's posted online. Please kindly update your online menu to current pricing. There's also a 4% living wage surcharge. It is fairly pricy here. Three of us dined here for lunch and it was well over $100/pp not including tip with each of us having one drink, two shared entrees, apps and one dessert. Service was good. Reservations on Opentable were easy to make. Street parking only. 3.5 stars rounded up. read more
