Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night and it was fun to get to try out the Happy Hour menu. Tried some of their Sake, Edamame, Sashimi Plate, and Tempura Plate. Everything was super tasty and pretty well-priced. For the sushi rolls I tried the Sake 107 Special Roll, Dynamite Roll, and the Deep Fried Hamachi Roll. The Sake 107 Special Roll was so good that I ended up ordering it twice! It is absolutely delicious with a garlic eggplant as a part of the ingredients and is one of the best sushi creations that I have tasted. The server was really nice but service was definitely on the slower end as the place got pretty full even for a Tuesday night. So definitely keep that in mind if you are looking for a quick meal. I would say that eating here was more of a slower paced experience to be enjoyed. The sushi is on the pricier end but worth it in my opinion for its freshness and delicious taste. read more

Wow! Just wow. That is all my husband and I kept saying each time we tried a new roll. This place is outstanding. The quality is to the highest standard and their rolls just melt in your mouth. They were even kind enough to customize their rolls for this expecting mom. I've been here twice, once with my mom (when we stumbled upon it, realizing Hiro's was gone) and I had to bring my husband back. They lived up to all of the high expectations I had set. We now have our new favorite sushi spot. One note: both times the service has been pretty slow. This place was kinda a miss for me. The miso soup was ok but had lots of veggies in never seen that before. The rolls were just ok. One of the specials rolls was tempura and fried sounds good so, but he texture of the fish inside was like tuna out of a can. The service was pretty good. (It was dead 3 other tables at 6pm) And really liked the tempura squash. It's very expensive here for the quality of most of the food we tried. I feel like maybe we just ordered the wrong things. We were a bit disappointed in this restaurant. We came here for our anniversary dinner. They didn't have a whole lot on the menu or many of the traditional Japanese dishes and was a bit over priced. Husband meal cost a good $30+ and all he got was a salad, a little chicken and a few shrimp. Mine I asked for crispy California roll with tempera flakes and they didn't know how to do it so deep fried the roll. It changed the entire roll, was mushy and didn't taste good at all. No soups or salads were offered. My hot sake was $27! Waitress didn't even come back to re-fill husbands drink. Definitely way over priced and highly overrated. Husband had to stop somewhere after for food because he left still hungry. Unfortunately we won't be coming back. read more

Pretty solid upscale sushi option in Petaluma. I had an enjoyable dinner there while in town for work. The ambiance is trendy and classic at the same time with lots of modern white tones and dim lighting. They have a large sushi bar in the front where i sat. Service was very attentive and friendly and our sushi chef was happy to chat with me and explain dishes for as he created them. I started with the shisito peppers which were excellent and had the right amount of fried goodness and flavor. Next up was the hamachi umeshiso age which was also delicious. A lightly friend pile of fresh hamachi chunks with a great dusting of wasabi powder and other flavors. Really unique and tasty dish. Next up was the explosion roll which was a nice blend of fresh hamachi and fried onion strings on top. A heavier roll but tasty. The chef was also nice enough to pass me a complimentary Brussels sprouts dish that they had as a special that day with some interesting flavors. Lastly I finished with some of the fresh nigiri specials that day with the blue fin tuna and Hirame. Everything was pretty fresh and nicely presented and assembled. Certainly there are better sushi places in SF or in Chicago (where I'm from) but if you happen to be in the Petaluma area and have a craving for good sushi, you won't be disappointed here. read more

When I go to sushi I don't hold back so I probably ordered the whole menu, ( the chef thanked us for ordering the "whole menu") haha. The eggplant, delicate pillows of garlic savory heaven. The miso, the French onion soups of miso, so rich as if there was beef stock. But pescatarian ! This specific miso is where the chef is also from. I absolutely recommend it. The sashimi, food orgasm after food orgasm. I don't understand what he does with the fish ? Deep tissue massage? Reiki ? I don't know but it's spiritually enlightening and I feel amazing. Numbers being odd, we split the last piece, because that's what you do when you're married. Our chopsticks made splitting the fish a piece of cake! I feel as though the fish was caught and prepared right when we ordered. SO good! * Chefs Choice: 3 Sashimi Tuna | Scallop | I forgot.. Fresh, fresh, fresh! I was hoping to not receive octopus, so I was pleased when chef created this selection. Next time, he recommends that I just tell him what I like and do not like. "You get what you want here!" Music to my ears. He also recommended that we use the wasabi served on this plate. It has a lighter color and grainy texture. More of a finely chopped consistency rather than the traditional play-doe style. You can definitely taste the difference. * Melt in your mouth Aptly named. I mean honestly, the bite practically melts in your mouth. Spicy tuna, and avocado wrapped in Salmon sitting on a bed of sauce. Ya'll I swear it had bacon in there! I love bacon. Surely it did not, but it was delicious nonetheless. If I had bread I would have sopped up the sauce! Oh, and a simple, insignificant thing like rice plays a huge factor in this roll. Rolls can be hard to enjoy; they're either too large for one bite or too tough to chew making you look like a chipmunk at the table. There was none of that with the Melt in your mouth! I don't think I've ever really paid much attention to rice preparation in rolls before. Now that I know what the best tastes like, I'm ruined! The best or nothing at all! Clearly, I wouldn't be giving 5 stars if the service wasn't exceptional. Our first visit here was excellent. Loved the ambiance, and on a Sunday night at least, it was full of people, but we could actually carry on a conversation. We started with edamame. Fresh steamed, I missed the sea salt. I ordered the omakase and asked the chef to recommend the sake. The fish was good, and the size of the sashimi was what my friends in Tokyo would call 'country style' i.e. good-sized. The problem was that I think I'm used to omakase is some chefy stuff vs. 5(?) kinds of sushi (2 pieces each). My bad. Next time I will order off the specials menu. I'm still kicking myself for not ordering the whole Aji sashimi. And.. and... and... The dessert was called a house-made flan but with the sugar crust I'd call it a house-made creme brulee. Ariel's service was great - good content about the sake and food, and a perspective on the owner/chef. And fun! Looking forward to a quick return. read more

We took a road trip and made a special detour just to sample their food. It was good but highly overrated. First off, they don't pick up phone and you must order online. Not a big deal since with COVID it's mostly take out. We waited until 5pm and VM directed us to website- should have been automated to do so before 5 and we would have ordered way in advance. Secondly they are pricey, again not a big deal if quality warrants extra money. But they don't even carry O'Toro, just Chu Toro. Given its medium fatty or medium grade salmon belly, that was what their restaurant pricing should have reflected, not high end top grade sushi price. Their service was friendly. And for outdoor dining it was actually decent distance that I would have been ok eating there except hubby is not a fan of eating next to car traffic & exhaust fumes. For the food itself - definitely fresh but not amazing. We ordered Chu Toro sashimi- decent but not amazing, slices on smaller size. Sake or salmon nigiri again was fresh, smaller slice and high price. Now the Chef's 15 piece sashimi was decent sized and fresh, but at $49 usually other places come with rice and soup. Neither was given for this dinner platter. Disappointing to say the least as I had such high hopes for 5 star sushi we made special detour to try them out. If we are around there, we may try other items but definitely will NOT make a special trip to eat there again (we've driven 3.5 hrs each way to Santa Barbara to visit hubby's favorite sushi place and this place was only 1.5 hrs away). read more

This is by far the highest quality sushi you can get in the area. I have been here numerous times and I have never once been disappointed with what I got. Service: 5/5 All of the staff is amazing from the owner who greets the customers that enter to all of the servers all of them only add to what makes this place so amazing. This is a truly exceptional sushi restaurant with a zen-like and almost ascetic atmosphere. The head chef is truly talented and gets in the best quality fish flown in from tsukiji. For our appetizer we ordered special of a mushroom tempura which was composed of fried matsutake and shimeji mushrooms they were foraged locally and salted simply and served with a lemon slice. I thought they might have been a little extra crispy but the dish was very successful. We didn't try any other hot dishes that evening but I got to snap a picture of a pork katsu which looked and smelled amazing. My wife had a sashimi salad that was prepared beautifully and I ordered a omakase sashimi to get a feel for his skill and presentation. I was not at all disappointed with what landed on the plate although I would say his default slicing style is thicker than what I normally order. If you want it thinner just ask for it that way. The fish itself -- salmon, salmon belly, tuna, mackerel and snapper was truly excellent. The restaurant has a wide selection of cold sake, because of the cold weather I ordered a hot one which is their regular dry. It definitely hit the spot for the 40 degree windy weather. read more

I was really impressed with Sake 107 - we ordered some basic stuff to go, in a bit of a rush - it was a tad on the expensive side, however, I didn't feel ripped off. The portion sizes were great, the food was really well done and the service I got just calling in and picking up an order was very friendly and appreciative. If you're a super moody, sushi snob like a lot of people reviewing this spot are - take your meal with a grain of salt, of course there are better sushi places in the Bay Area, but I would for sure go back and enjoy another meal here. The Sake, the sushi, the service, and the choices are the reasons why you should visit this place. I went here with my husband and our really good friend and we absolutely loved this place. We wanted to purchase a bottle of sake and the server let us taste a few different sakes before we made our decision (he knew what he was doing). After choosing a bottle we ordered what seemed like one of everything and it was all delicious. The chef does an amazing job with the rolls and will even make small adjustments to their signature rolls if you need. Did I mention this place has REAL wasabi? That stuff is delicious. We also tried three different desserts. The desserts were very light and not overly sweet. I prefer my desserts a bit more rich but they tasted very nice. Give this place a try. Sake 107 is a new Japanese restaurant that recently opened in Petaluma with good potentials of blowing off your mind with subtle, delicate and authentic flavors. Nowadays, a Japanese owned and operated Japanese restaurant is a huge deal. Pickings are slim in the North Bay and the owner/chef Eiji Ando has constructed his menu to serve traditional Japanese favorites interspersed with jiveass sushi rolls (a term coined by a yelper to refer to Americanized sushi rolls) and izakaya (Japanese gastropub) style entrees in a neighborhood that has hitherto seen only AYCE sushi bars. The bread and butter of Sake 107 is still nigiri sushi with a limited array of fancy rolls. They do have omakase (leave up to the chef) sashimi ($35) and a "Five pieces Nigiri" ($21) although these didn't interest me due mainly to the limited variety of fish they carry, which were mostly run of the mill. This is understandable as locals may be unfamiliar with the unique and exotic fish from Japan, not to mention their exorbitant prices. We started off with a classic bowl of Kenchin-jiru Soup ($6), which was originally eaten by Zen Buddhist monks. Who knew these monks could be the foodies of bygone years with their sophisticated tastes buds? This was brewed essentially with root vegetables, tofu and kombu (kelp) stock. Trust the monks to create a hearty and nourishing soup teeming with gobo (burdock root), taro, organic tofu, aburaage (fried tofu) and konnyaku (a kind of potato). Whew! What a concoction! Sake 107's rendition was amazingly tasty with an earthy flavor. Get this if you like something healthy, low in calories and high in fiber! (4/5) Asari-hatcho (Manila Clams Miso $6) is interesting and delicious. Hatcho miso is a regional specialty in Japan (perhaps the owner hails from this region) that is highly regarded for its depth, sweetness and saltiness. Chef Ando created a bomb by adding clams to bring out some sweetness and brininess from the clams plus a good chew from the meat. It tasted savory and way different from a clam chowder! (4/5) This was not just any Seafood Sunomono! (Pickled cucumbers $11). The "tosa-zu" dressing as mentioned in the menu made all the difference. This is rice vinegar infused for hours with bonito flakes. The end result was more robust tasting vinegar with better umami flavors, not too sour and not too sweet! I even drank it with a spoon! The cucumbers were beautifully sliced and crispy and of course the lip smacking dollop of snow crab, scallops and octopus added to the textural complexity and taste of the salad. (4/5) Ika Somen ($11) was a special. The white colored fresh ika (squid) was cut into fine strips to resemble somen noodles. They were topped with their own deliciously cured in-house ikura (salmon roe), which was not salty and truly sublime. The ika had the texture of somen noodles and can be slurped like ramen. This was a real treat and a delicacy! (5/5) Finally, some carbs of course and we shared a bowl of rice with an order of Kakiage ($11). Each piece of calamari and veggie was not individually battered and deep-fried but were mixed and clustered together in the batter. The side of tentsuyu dipping sauce with a dollop of oroshi (grated daikon) was very flavorful and went well with rice. The batter was super light, not greasy and crispy! (4/5) The décor was a little dated and they could use a remodel to create a more attractive 'Japanese' ambiance. I also noticed there was no sushi bar and sushi was made from the kitchen. Finally, I did check with my server who confirmed that everything we ordered today was traditional and authentic and not very popular with the masses. We'll be back to try their fish the next time. Another amazing lunch at Sake 107. Late posting this but life gets in the way, LOL. This trip gave us a head-to-head comparison of Sake 107 vs Hana and it was no contest. Sake 107 won, hands-down. Both cooked food and sushi were flawless at Sake 107. Hana is only good when owner/chef Tominaga is actually there; if absent the food takes a dive downwards. Owner/chef Eiji Ando runs a first-class operation: the restaurant is beautiful (sophisticated/contemporary); the sakes are amazing and the waitstaff is trained to answer all and all questions. The service is top-notch, frankly better than the overrated Michelin-starred restaurant in our home town across the bridge. I'd say don't miss the tempura items, but you also shouldn't miss the sashimi/nigiri specials. Or the marvelous misoshiru made with the aged hatcho miso from chef Ando's home province in Japan. Or the Miso Katsu pork cutlet. Or the chicken teriyaki with its light, delicate sauce that puts to shame all the oversweetened, gloppy, horrible teriyaki/tare sauces you've had before. Just go. Now. Lets start with food, Amazing quality of fish but! The amount of wasabi in the nigiri is too much, it overpower the flavor of the fish and rice. I had to remove all the wasabi inside the nigiri, because my nostril was on fire for every bite. The fish selection is decent but some of the nigiri I ordered are out which they only offer one piece rather than 2. The pork yakitori is bland and slightly under cook (med rare for pork) and the hamachi collar is also bland. Customer service We got a warmed welcome upon entering the place, but they took 17mins before someone took our orders. Our server is amazing, but she had too many table she needs to attend, so I can't blame her if she forget some of our orders. I know its hard for staffing situation nowadays but if you want repeat customers, please don't take business you can't handle. This is not the place to go to for cheap sauces, and artificially flavored meals. I just had the most amazing lunch here with a friend. Their fish is not frozen! It melts on your tongue. Fresh vegetables in a rich, dark miso... I wanted to cry tears of joy with every bite. My companion told me he hates mushrooms and he ate ALL of them in the miso. And the RICE! I've been to far too many sushi restaurants all over the Bay, and I must tip my hat to the chefs here: nothing is overlooked. I felt fulfilled and satisfied.
