My friends and I went in for happy hour, which first of all their happy hour times are super great! Mon-Sat 4:30-6:00 and Sunday 3:30-9:00! The happy hour prices are extremely low and you get high quality food! The service was fast and attentive for ordering and drinks. Tried this place out for lunch today & I must say it was nicely decorated inside. There weren't many customers inside but it could be from the construction work outside. Maybe about 7 total customer tables with at least 2-4 customers in each. I looked up the menu beforehand & decided on the Teriyaki Chicken Bento Box on the Lunch menu. If they had Salmon I would have ordered that. It was served with 4 California rolls, 2 Crab Rangoon's, white rice & I opted for the house salad instead of the Miso soup. The salad (didn't take a pic) seem like it had the right amount of dressing from the top but when I got part way down it was drenched in dressing. Nothing special to note on the California rolls & crab rangoons except they were good. Teriyaki chicken was flavorful. My friend ordered the Sushi and Sashimi Combo on the lunch menu & it looked good & pretty! I'm not much of a raw person so that's why I said it looked good. Waitress was nice & refilled my water when it went low. Only complaint is the food took a little bit too long to be served for someone who only has an hour for lunch. read more

I've been here twice and had a good experience. The restaurant is set up weird. You walk in straight into the bar, with no signs to tell you if there is a hostess stand or if it's seat yourself. The first time I came, the bartender (after a couple of minutes of standing there like an idiot) told us to seat ourselves. Our waiter wasn't notified of our arrival, and therefore was slow to start. But she was apologetic and was really great. The sushi we ordered that night was quick, fresh and pretty decent. We went again a couple of nights ago. Again the bartender had to direct us, except this time she told us to go to the other side of the restaurant to the hostess stand. We didn't even know there was another side, so we wandered over and were seated promptly. Our server was very nice and the food came out quickly. I ordered the tom yum seafood soup and it was great. Reminded me of the soup my mom used to make when I was a kid. I'll definitely be coming back for this when I get a craving. The sushi menu is pretty big and has some rolls/combinations that others do not so that's always a plus. The ones we ordered were fresh and arrived to our table quickly. They were pretty good, though not the best I've ever had. Overall, we liked the restaurant and will be back. read more

Taste : 4/5 Service :3/5 Price: $$-$$$ (imo) Taste: I got the wildcat roll which is a cooked roll and some people can really dislike that... but I liked it. The tempura was crunchy and I would definitely say it taste better than the average sushi you get in Kansas. Now, this will probably depend on how fancy of a sushi place you've been to...but I am a student so I haven't been to fancy fancy sushi places. My friend got the salmon nagiri (?) - the salmon piece on top of rice. He said he really likes the ratio of fish to rice. The taste wasn't buried by the rice, which occurs in some places where they give you a fistful of rice. Service: 3/5 because while there were enough empty tables, there weren't enough servers! So it just felt weird sitting/ standing to wait when there were clearly empty tables. Also, because it was a bit understaffed, the service did take a bit more time in getting our orders. However, I think the servers did well even in this disadvantageous setting. Price - I would say it's a bit on the higher than average of the area. Overall : I would come again! Maybe after saving up a bit to enjoy some more rolls~ read more

Impressive just doesn't cut it when describing this restaurant! My date and I went for lunch on Saturday. We walked in and while the lighting was on the dim side, the atmosphere was very nice. We decided to sit at the Sushi bar - and I'm glad we did because I wouldn't have been able to snag the picture of the Sushi Boats. The restaurant was aptly named! Open the drink menu and the first thing you see is a long list of the various Sake's they have. My date chose the Cucumber Sake and I had a sweet one (pear and something else and I cannot pronounce the name much less type it!). Both were very good but the cucumber one was to die for delicious. These were not warmed Sake's but served chilled. We both had the Miso soup before our sushi. It was very good and there was no chintzing on the seaweed or tofu. While we were waiting for our meals we watched them create works of art. Miniature Junk boats (sans sails) filled with various sushi and sashimi, palm trees, lettuce garnish, roses formed out of ginger, and beautiful orchids. We ordered the 3 roll combo - yellowtail scallion, spicy crunchy tuna and spicy crunchy crab. They brought them out on a platter that had sauce formed into a dragon and one of those beautiful orchids. Very fresh and delicious with just the perfect amount of spiciness. We are excited to go back and try more varieties - in what my date called "The Love Boat" or "Battleship". I prefer Love Boat - I'm a lover not a fighter! read more

Just under four stars as opposed to four solid stars. This place is a little hard to find. A big place with four doors but only one used. Not sure if the place fills up, we were there early on a week night. So the facility was a little odd, not bad just odd. I did find the sticky floor off putting. The service was relaxed, friendly and attentive. Very nice easy going waitress. She answered our questions and asked the chef about special orders. The food was good. Ah, finally got the chance to visit the restaurant that you always hear on the radio in KC. We came here for dinner in anticipation in ordering a sushi boat, but were told it was Happy hour! We were all very surprised because we came at 7 o'clock on a Sunday night. When entering, the restaurant is pretty dim lit. The staff were friendly, but it did take a little longer than expected for a server to come find us at our table and take our menu orders. I honestly cannot remember which rolls I ordered, but they had a good variety of rolls on their happy hour menu. I do remember getting the spicy salmon crunch roll and rainbow roll, both which were good. The fish didn't taste old/pre-frozen. The prices are decent today, with rolls ranging from 3.50 to 7.50ish. On a final note, the presentation for the rolls at this restaurant are on point! I did not get to try any of their entree items, but I think compared to the happy hours in Kansas City that serve sushi, this restaurant has my vote. read more

So this is the sushi spot that every KC radio talks about lol. Love this place , been here numerous times and it never disappoints. Great cooked rolls. I always get the shaggy dog which is my favorite roll here, the volcano and the mango roll . the sushi is delicious, good service , good parking and lovely food presentation. I think the only downside to the restaurant is the lighting, it is very dark. It would be better if it had better lighting. read more

This was my first time at Sake Lounge. I was feeling a bit better about coming here for my friend's birthday because they all kept talking about sushi and I do not like sushi. I am glad that there were other options on the menu that I could enjoy. I ordered the chicken teriyaki which was very good. My husband sure did enjoy eating my leftovers before I could get to them! We also ordered the pot stickers for an appetizer which were so good! Our server was great and came by often to see if we needed anything. I've been coming here for about a year now and I absolutely love it! Their presentation is beautiful and the food is just as good. The store is also adorable and it has a very calming traditional atmosphere. The salmon nigiri is some of my favorite salmon I'd definitely recommend it. If you're not a fan of sushi then it has noodles and bento boxes. I recently brought my grandma and uncle here and they loved it. My grandma ordered three of the salmon nigiri and I ordered a bento box. The teriyaki is amazing it has a very unique texture and the sauce is mouth watering. If you go to sake lounge be prepared to wait. There isn't a long wait but it's such a small restaurant with so many customers. The wait is absolutely worth it and I've never been disappointed. I was excited to try the new sushi restaurant near me and was not let down at all. They are currently running an AYCE special for the first few months that features many of their rolls and comes with their miso soup and salad bar. I was a fan of the salad bar. It was very simple, but hit the components of what I like in a salad bar. Simple salad options with a couple of meats and a nice selection of fruits. The thousand island dressing was delicious. I could stop by and enjoy just the salad bar for a light lunch or dinner. It may not be everyone's preference, but perfect for me! The miso soup had a healthy amount of tofu and seaweed sheets in it which was nice, but I wasn't a huge fan of the broth. It was a little lacking in flavor. The sushi was great. Everything tasted extremely fresh and the combinations of the special rolls were excellent. The AYCE does just include rolls and I would have liked to experience some of the selections as individual pieces, but overall impressed with the quality. The AYCE menu is heavy in fried options and spicy options. I quickly looked over the regular menu, so I can not speak to rather this is true throughout the entire menu. My preference would be for more fresh raw options and less fried tempura sushi rolls. I did notice a few rolls that include fruit on the regular menu which is a plus as I like the savory sweet rolls. For those non-sushi fans, the menu has other Asian options making the place appealing to a mix of tastes. The staff was great. The owner was very attentive when I came in, talking to me and making sure I was welcome and checking back at the end of my meal to make sure I enjoyed my experience. He really cared about what I thought of the place. (He did know I was a Yelper as we discussed this, but based on other reviews and his actions before finding this out, I don't think that was a factor to his actions.) The sushi chefs and waitresses were top notch, friendly, attentive, proactive, just excellent service. The restaurant has a lot of room and some of it is still being completed and has not opened yet. The section I sat in I have a mixed review on. It is nice, I like that they don't use throw away chop sticks. I like the lighting, would make for a nice romantic dinner, but also good for friends or meetings. The music was a mix of cultural music and some mild alternative rock. I liked this mix. There was some areas that was just plain plywood that appeared to be completed, but I am not sure. This took away from the elegant, romantic feel of the place, maybe some painting is still being done. Also, I was not a fan of the artwork above the sushi area. It looks like a giant collection of hair. Just wouldn't be my pick of artwork in a restaurant. Overall, this is a great addition to the area. Although there is a sushi restaurant across the street, Sake Lounge goes far above the quality they have after my last visit there. The only thing keeping me from going to the fifth star is the huge amount of fried rolls that are on the menu. Maybe it is me, but don't Americans like non-fried sushi anymore? Loved. This. Place. In moving from the Plaza/downtown KC area to Olathe, we've tried a few sushi restaurants that made us long for places like Kona and Nara. For us, the more suburban sushi restaurants have been lackluster, at best. We went to Sake Lounge on a whim last Saturday night and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. It's definitely unassuming from the outside (part of a strip of shops near AMC 30), but the inside of the restaurant feels upscale and has a good vibe. Blake was our waiter, and he was really helpful when we asked for suggestions (KC Rainbow roll is a MUST, Avocado Eel roll and King Salmon roll were wonderful). Blake gave us just the right amount of attention throughout our experience and was very laid-back and personable. The meal presentation was impeccable and interesting. Looking around the restaurant, each table's presentation varied. You could tell that the sushi chefs really cared about the way that the food was presented (not to mention how fantastic it tasted). On our way out, EVERY person working there smiled and wished us a good evening. The second we got into the car, we wanted to go right back in! This is our new go-to place.
