Valette was the meal we were most looking forward to on our 3-day Healdsburg visit, mostly because of the favorable reviews. It's a great room with good energy and although I was expecting more of a white tablecloth experience, it was casual, which was fine. Unfortunately, my entire entree (sole meunière with green beans and fondant potatoes) was uniformly bland...no trace of salt or seasoning whatsoever. The entire dish was blah. I can't remember the last time I complained about inadequate seasoning, but when it's nowhere to be found, it's hard to ignore. The beans were pretty much raw. I enjoy bright green beans served al dente beans, but raw? No. The fondant potatoes were anemic (zero golden color, zero confit). All three pieces seemed steamed, steamed unevenly, and served cold. One of the three fondants was very firm and barely cooked. I needed to cut it with a knife. The other two were fork tender but alas, cold and flavorless. Honestly, it was kinda weird that all three components of this dish were just so darned boring and lacking temperature. I had only started my meal when I told the server about my impression of the dish. He took my feedback cheerily and said he'd let the chef know for future reference, but no "How can we fix this?" It was a bummer. When eating a classically delicious dish feels like punishment, something's not right. On the bright side, the server had a very nice manner. The room was lovely and had good energy. The menu was priced lower than we expected. And the chilled english pea soup was absolutely delicious. So Valette is capable of getting some things right. I'm not sure whether to chalk it up to "off night" or poor quality control in the kitchen. I guess both, maybe. read more

Our server, Jacob, was a delight; his deep knowledge of the menu helped us navigate our choices, and his expertise in decanting our 2006 Hewitt Cabernet was much appreciated. We started with the only French Champagne offered by the glass, which paired beautifully with the Tsar Nicoulai Osetra Caviar. While the bowl's design made the caviar slightly hard to reach, the flavors were so stunning we found ourselves pining for more. For entrees, the Liberty Farms Duck Breast was a standout--perfectly medium-rare and easily some of the best duck I've ever had. The Prime New York Strip was equally impressive; the meat was so flavorful on its own that the side of sauce Raifort wasn't even necessary. A great dinner option for Mon-Wed in Healdsburg! We had a nice dinner at Valette in April '26 on a Tuesday evening, when tourism hasn't picked-up yet, and Healdsburg is mostly a ghost town in the evenings. The restaurant, one of a few owned by the same family/company, prides itself on highlighting local ingredients. As can be seen on the attached photo of my pork entree, the ingredients don't disappoint. Just take a look at the two adorable turnips; possibly the cutest vegetable I've even been served. The proteins were tasty (pork, sole, duck), although my pork was a little overdone. Entree sides were pretty good and healthy, although pairings weren't perfect. Possibly because of rotating local produce. For example, my pork was said to be served with charred cabbage, and I was expecting some crunch / seasoning. Valette excelled at sweet sides and deserts, all of which were delicious. They had a vegan entree option and a great selection of starters and apps. We had the charcuterie which was excellent. Service was good, although our server seemed always rushed. It's admirable that Valette offers benefits to its employees, as listed on the menu. The ambiance on the patio was very nice; possibly the nicest parklette I've eaten in. We travelled to Healdsburg, just to eat at Valette. Boy were we disappointed. We didn't feel or experience lived up to a Michelin level. I don't mind a simple interior, but I wasn't expecting it from this restaurant. It did not have an upscale vibe. As far as food goes, we have the tuna poke, it was alright. Some bites were a little too fishy. We also had the scallop puff pastry. The presentation was nice and the sauce, fantastic. The scallops were undercooked, so we didn't finish them and we were not asked why, which I would expect in such a coveted restaurant. We finished with a salad and the halibut. The halibut was super dry an it's accompaniments, underwhelming. Service was okay and the manager was floating around talking to guests. I felt it was a 5 star experience from my end but my moms duck was very tough. We had a lovely server, on pinpoint and friendly. The atmosphere is lively and in the small space not too loud. Ordered cocktails which everyone was happy with and a few glasses of wine. My salad was very nice, fresh veg and a creamy dressing. Also had a steak tartare which I loved. My partner had the "best mussels he's ever had". The scallops and steak were also delish and a fun presentation on the scallop. First I want to say how amazing the service was. We waited not wanted for nothing an it was such a pleasure to be waited on by such a crew. Then dinner. My New York steak was awesome. It came with sautéed mushrooms, a cipollini onion, and bone marrow with chicharrones. Hubby had the duck breast which he said was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The duck "granola" that accompanied it was too dry and reminded him of a breakfast bar or having to choke down a Nature Valley granola bar while hiking. They just didn't go together. My friends and I visited Valette for a fancy meal during a reunion trip of sorts to Russian River, it was on our shortlist of known good restaurants in Healdsburg to check out. We all did the prix-fixe menu that evening, one of us did the optional wine pairing (and the others did cocktails and a glass of wine). We sat on the covered patio, which is more of a parklet type situation and is adjacent to the road (thankfully not too busy). The food on the whole was excellent - I particularly enjoyed the scallops and the dessert. The wine list was solid, as you'd expect from a restaurant in wine country. I was not that enthused by their cocktail list - for some reason this was presented on an iPad (giving me Olive Garden vibes) - they had the staples but their specialty cocktails were less inspired than I would have expected. They were also missing any sort of hard cider - which again is unexpected, given how popular they have become and how many good local options exist. Food aside, our experience of the ambience and the service fell below par for the cost of the meal. Service felt hurried and a couple of times, we had to ask to order drinks (where they tried to leave after taking an order from just one person in our party). My friend has talked about this place for years now. She told me she will bring me here on my birtday someday and that day finally happen! Located in the busy streets of downtown Healdsburg is this place. They had indoor and outdoor sitting. They were busy but my friend made a reservation for us a while back so we were seated in the outdoor are pretty quickly. My friend raved out their course meals so I had to get it. We got the minimum 5 courses because I just didn't think my stomach has space for more than that. Usually, everyone gets the same dishes but they did an exception for us gave us 2 different dishes on every course (one for the women and one for the men). I loved it because I could share with my boyfriend and try all 10 dishes! The dishes were exquisite. Each one were not only works of art but also each component played a role and complimented each other well. I definitely have favorites but every dish was great. At first I was worried it wasn't enough but we left very full and satisfied. My latte after a heavy meal was a perfect closer. Our waiter was also very attentive and kind. We chose to sit at the bar because we always enjoy people watching and being in the heart of the restaurant. We decided to go ala carte although they offer a tempting tasting prix fixe menu as well. Started with a couple of delicious cocktails , the prickly Pete, which was a delicious take on a margarita and Last Call, a fun riff on an old-fashioned. This was followed by their beautifully presented Sonoma salad, which was bursting with flavor & dressed perfectly. Oh & btw their buttery rolls are worth the carb splurge. For our main we each enjoyed the halibut special with a lemony Beurre blanc sauce, creamy mashed potatoes, and tender broccoli . They also have a wonderful wine selection by the glass as well. The popular scallops en croute was offered on the tasting menu. It was very tasty but a little disappointing when they opened up this large elegant puff pastry only to find a single tiny scallop inside. Since I was sharing everything with my cousin it was barely a taste. I enjoyed just about everything on the menu but the duck which was the last tasting was just ok. Maybe I was just too full by then to fully enjoy. The dessert was a smoky homemade s'mores like dessert. Off the menu specials was a Tomahawk steak with truffles. This was my first Tomahawk and it was definitely more than 2 of us could handle but we sure tried and it was a melt in your mouth did not disappoint experience. We dined at Valette in Healdsburg for a 5:30 PM reservation, and while the restaurant was nearly empty when we arrived, it was completely full by the time we left -- clearly a popular spot, so reservations are a must. There's both indoor and patio seating, and the atmosphere feels upscale yet relaxed. We were intrigued by their tasting menu options -- you can choose a fixed tasting menu (which was $135 the night we went) or a "chef's choice" version at $20 per course with a five-course minimum, where the chef selects dishes from the main menu. If one person goes with a tasting menu, then that is required for the entire table. I thought that was a really fun and creative setup. However, because I'm pregnant and wanted to avoid anything undercooked or raw, we opted to order à la carte instead. The salad I ordered was beautifully presented -- light, fresh, and made with high-quality ingredients, including some uncommon ones. It didn't have standout flavor notes, but it was still very enjoyable for its simplicity and freshness. My duck breast was cooked perfectly to the medium-well I requested (for pregnancy reasons), though I'd recommend medium for ideal tenderness. The skin was crisp and the flavor was rich and balanced. My husband had the steak, cooked medium-rare, and said it was easily one of the top five meals he's ever had -- tender, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. As for service, the people who brought out the food were great -- they explained each dish thoroughly, and the support staff who refilled waters and cleared plates were polite and professional. Unfortunately, our main server seemed a bit indifferent and too casual. There were some side conversations going on between staff, and since there isn't a private area for them to step away, it felt like we were dining in the middle of their chatter. It defiantly wasn't enough to complain about and didn't affect how we tipped, but it did take away slightly from the otherwise elevated experience. For parking, it's street parking only. Meters are free after 6 PM, and they allow up to three hours before that, so finding a spot nearby was easy. Overall, Valette delivers on quality, creativity, and presentation. Some of the best duck I've had- and a very large portion (so large there was no way I could eat dessert). My friend had trout and she found it to be perfect. I've been to Valette on several occasions, and I have loved it every time. From the service to the food, it's always an excellent experience. I always seem to order the filet, and it's always prepared perfectly. The starters are always creative, interesting and delicious. It has been awhile since I have opted for a tasting menu, but what sold me on "Chef Valette trust me" 5 course tasting menu is we both get completely different tasting menus. This means trying 10 different dishes for $100pp with an option of additional course(s) for an extra $20pp per additional course. Honestly, we were stuffed after our 5 courses each that additional courses weren't necessary. Both of our courses in each category are served at the same time and are shareable portions vs. just a taste. We started with 2 raws (poke and beef tartare), followed by 2 hots (carrot soup and pasta with ragu), then 2 seafoods (scallop en croute and steelhead trout), 2 meats (duck breast and prime NY strip steak) and ending with 2 desserts (bread butter and jam and itsnota "snickersbar deux) over 2 glorious hours. Other than the seafood course where I savored every bite of my favorite, the scallop en croute, which for once I wasn't sorry he was shellfish intolerant. the rest was perfect for sharing. To be fair, except for one bite, I did let him have his fave, the steelhead trout. It was paced perfectly so you don't feel rushed allowing you to digest so you can fully enjoy each course. The weather was beautiful and perfect. Service was quick. Service was quick and fast. The service did a great job of clearing the plates and tables and keeping our drinks full. At check-in, the hostess immediately noted that we were celebrating a birthday and started flipping through a small stack of cards (I assume for birthday celebrants), but couldn't find one for us. It was awkward watching her search only to come up empty handed, but hey, at least the menus she gave us had a generic "Happy Birthday" at the top! Right after we ordered, a couple was seated next to us and their server (different person) asked if it was their first time to the restaurant (it was ours, too). The couple said yes and their server immediately went and brought them complimentary welcome champagne. It was a little disappointing that we didn't get the same warm welcome when it was our first time AND we chose this restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. Adding insult to injury, the server for the table next to us started reciting the day's specials -- something our server never bothered to share with us before we ordered! Turns out they had pan seared foie gras on the specials, which is one of my favorite foods in the world and something they do not list on the menu (due to CA regulations)! We then had to flag down our server to see if we could hear the specials and add the foie to our order. Instead of apologizing, she made up a weird excuse that she didn't tell us the specials because they can pop up throughout the night depending on if they run out of other things on the menu. I honestly didn't believe her and, based on other reviews, it looks like foie is regularly an off-menu special. Fortunately, all the food was excellent. We ordered the scallops (amazing and a must try), ahi poke (also excellent, not your typical poke), pork loin, and the last-minute foie gras (so glad we overheard the specials). We ultimately didn't order dessert, but I've read on other reviews that people celebrating birthdays have gotten complimentary birthday desserts and I saw other tables get dishes with birthday candles. The ambiance in here is quite relaxing and warm. It's a good date night spot but also with friends and I saw a party of 6. Bf and I had a reservation for 5:45pm on a Sunday and when we came in, the place was already half full. We started off dinner with bread and butter which was really good. I'm not usually a bread and butter girl but I had to stop myself from eating more than 2 because I needed to save room for actual dinner. We decided on the ahi poke and day boat scallops as appetizers which were both delicious. Love the textures and the creativity of each of them. The day boat scallop is actually an experience, and the waiter comes by to serve and explain it to you. You have to order it to see what I mean! For entrees, I got the special of the day which was lobster ravioli and bf got the NY strip loin. Presentation was beautiful. Bf said his steak was cooked perfectly the way he requested and I enjoyed my dish. We were too full for dessert but the options sounded so enticing. Maybe next time. They have an extensive list of wines that I would also want to try next time as well. What a lovely dinner and I'd definitely recommend Valette. This is my husband and I's favorite restaurant of all time - we come here for special occassions, normally without the kids, and we always do the tasting menu (which has always been delicious!). But this time, we decided on an impromptu trip to Healdsburg with the kids and were initially thinking we'd skip a date night out. Husband surprised me by calling Valette anyway to ask if they could accommodate us with our children last minute - turns out there was room for us if we didn't mind sitting outside! Outside patio was perfectly comfortable despite it being a rainy day - all of the heat lamps etc made it warm and really very lovely. We were able to once again order the tasting menu, and they whipped our kids up a simple pasta and a small steak. It was all incredible - we love that the tasting menu is always different for each of us, so we get to try so many different dishes! :) Thank you to Valette for acommodating us, and for taking care of our whole family! read more

Dining at Valette is an experience you will want to have at least once where you get to dine on entrees from chefs at the top of their game. Every course was flawless. In one of the Yelp reviews we read that we must try their bread. So glad we took that advice as it was amazing and I could have filled up on that alone. We ordered the Sashimi Grafe Hawaiian Ahi Poke Style. It was fresh and the crispy nori was a great compliment. I ordered the Liberty Farms Duck Breast. It was delightful. Cooked perfectly on a bed of brown rice and shiitake mushrooms, it was perfection. My husband ordered the Prime New York Strip Loin. He wasn't sure about the bone marrow but loved it after he tried it. The chimichurri sauce paired well with beef. New York Strip can be tricky sometimes as it can be tough due to it being a leaner cut but Valette prepared it well. Valette also made a fabulous citrus mocktail for me. Can't tell you what it was called as it was bartender's choice. He didn't disappoint! Valette is a bit more on the expensive side but worth it. I highly recommend it for special occasions or just because you want a delightful and memorable dining experience. read more

I had an absolutely amazing birthday dinner here! Going on my top 10 dinners of all time. We sat outside on the patio which was very nice and comfy in the spring weather. My husband and I both did the chef's "trust me" menu and they brought us both different items for each course that were smaller versions of the items on the menu. I really enjoyed being able to sample more of their delicious dishes. Our favorites were the main dishes - the duck confit and prime NY strip steak. 10/10, would definitely come again if we are in the area. read more

I'm giving them two stars because the food taste pretty good and the services pretty good. However, you better be ready to go out to another dinner after you leave because you will leave hungry. They should not have three dollar signs. It should have at least four or five. Two of us had dinner no drinks. It was $180. It was an appetizer a main course and a dessert each. The appetizer was literally one and a half bites of food. The main course was approximately six bites of food. And the dessert was again about 2 to 3 bites of food. I am 150 pound guy. If you are in Healdsburg, you definitely need to get a reservation at Valette. We had the scallop appetizer, the mussels with linguisa, halibut with smoked bacon, white asparagus, peas and potatoes and the snickerdoodle dessert. Everything was AMAZING! Absolutely wonderful tasting experience at Valette in Healdsburg, that was even better than my tasting experience at their nearby sister restaurant, The Matheson. Valette stands out as a great spot for a special occasion meal. We each ordered the 5 plate tasting, and the way they do the tasting menu for couples is ingenious: each individual gets a different dish, which allows you to taste a total of 10 dishes, assuming your partner is willing to share their bites with you. Highlights include: day boat scallop encroute, carrot soup with candied fennel and whipped creme fraiche, their New York steak, a pasta that came with our tasting (but not on the main menu) and their desserts, particularly the bread, butter and jam. We loved the ten varied plate tasting for couples, and wondered why all restaurants don't do this. Everything we had was delicious perfectly prepared, service was relaxed and still attentive, timing was near perfect and they even printed our name on the menu for our special event. Impressed.
