We did our high schoolers grad party this weekend and the "team" did an amazing job with Diya as the lead. Diya has an amazing personality and attention to details and a great listener. She took in our requirements on Pindi Cholae and Dahi Vada to truely be Pindi Cholae and North Indian style plate setup for the dahi vadas, among many other modifications and she did not disappoint. Norma was super amazing with the decorations and bar and DJ Kirpal adapted to the audience blending high school choices with parents seamlessly. Go team Diya!!! Got food to-go as I was craving some butter chicken Packaging was very good: they Saran wrapped everything to make sure nothing spilled and it stayed warm! Which everything was still very warm when I got to it at home. Butter chicken: not the best I've had. Did think it was a little pricey but the portion size was relatively big. The tomato flavor was too strong but the chicken was juicy and delicious. Barely any spice, wish there were more options to get it spicier Garlic naan: also pretty big in size but a little slightly burnt on some sides for me. Had to rip off those parts. Got a chance to try lunch buffet at Sakoon Mountain view. This is a really good place for indian food. Prompt service and hosts are good too. It is a nice place to be with Family. Wide variety of food available in appetizers and main course. And everything was fresh and tasted great. Tandoori chicken was good. In main course, they had 4 curries, Panner, Kofta, chicken and goat. I tried Mango lassi which was not part of buffet, but it was one of the best I ever had. Everytime someone drags me here, first I sigh because I know one more person has fallen for the trap. This place is a complete misrepresentation of Indian food, service and experience. The staff here is guaranteed to make you sad. They only serve you at 10 minute intervals even if you order a bunch of stuff and always with a perpetual grimace on their face like they are forced to do this. That might even be somewhat understandable if the pay was low but at $$$ and the shitty food, I really don't know what anyone is paying for. Go to Kabila 15 minutes north or Ettan 15 minutes west to eat much tastier food at half the cost and with people excited to cook and serve you. I mean the servers literally gave up at one point and told us to self serve and just left all food at a table in the corner of the room. It's such a blatant money grab, they should be charged for fraud really. The unlimited package is a ripoff because they will bring you one starter every 20 minutes so you get roped to order drinks or something as you sit there hungry. Then main course, they serve rice first!!! I mean who does that? The rest of the food comes... you guessed it 20 minutes later so that gives you plenty of time to stare at the rice while it cools down. And then barrage of food comes altogether without any conscience of wasting food. We ended up wasting 5-6 full entrees that they then refused to pack to give to homeless people in need. I sincerely hope people stop giving this place any business so it shuts down and something anything better can come along. I don't even wanna comment on the taste of the food. We hosted my father's 80th birthday in the Sakoon Diamond banquet hall, an event with about 100 attendees. Alex, the manager in charge, was not only extremely accommodating - allowing us to customize our menu selections and giving us a full tour and tasting beforehand - but was also very accessible and reliable throughout in working with our vendors. In terms of the food, it was amazing. We especially enjoyed a couple of the unique appetizers served. The "potli" is an alternative to a traditional samosa, a fried gram flour exterior shaped like a small tied bag containing samosa-like potatoes and peas inside. The avacado jhalmoori was also delicious, a layered chaat with avacado, potatoes, sev, and chutney. The entrees were also a hit with our guests, particularly the saag paneer and the daal sakoon, both of which were mildly spiced and fresh and delicious. They also served some unique desserts, including a lychee halwa, with small bits of lychee inside, and a ras malai with elaichi (cardamom) which was really good. We've also been several times to their lunch buffet, which has an impressive collection of items including my favorite aloo tikki, tandoori chicken, and a variety of sabzis. I'm pretty ambivalent about Sakoon overall. I've come here countless times. 2.5 stars that I'll round up to 3 for the sake of nostalgia and generosity, though in the past when this place ran considerably more smoothly I think it could have had 3 to 3.5 potential. Pros: * One of their paneer tikka appetizers is very good, the soufiya paneer. The other one sucks in comparison, but if you get this one you'll have a great time. * Their shamsavera kofta gravy is really nice and rich if you're into sweet creamy rich vegetarian kofta gravies. It also has a little bit of a spice to it from time to time, and if you ask them to make it a bit spicier, you might be able to get it that way. What we do is mix some of the paneer tikka in the gravy, as they don't really have any paneers we like, and the result is basically a fire paneer tikka masala. * Their dum biryani is incredible. Probably the best dum biriyani in Fremont. (The price might be a bit of a turn-off though.) * Their staff is pretty nice and accommodating, though see the caveat in terms of the service below. Cons: * Their actual paneer, paneer peshawari or something I think it's called, sucks. It's bland and flavorless. They also don't have any smoky, spicy paneer gravy offerings, like kadhai paneer, which we would have very much liked to see and is our staple order at any other Indian restaurant. * Their garlic naan somehow never has butter, even when we explicitly remind them to add butter on the naan! It's very frustrating, and it's pretty dry without it. * They tend to mess up and delay orders very often, especially during busy hours. Maybe they're understaffed? But this is an ongoing problem that needs to be solved. * Their buffet quality is a joke compared to their a la carte menu, but perhaps the price makes up for it for you? Your mileage may vary. * A la carte can get pretty damn expensive based on what you're ordering and for how many people. read more

We enjoyed the event thoroughly as everything was taken care by the banquet staff. Since it was dinner there was no buffet, so we ordered a bunch of items a la carte to share: Aloo Tikki, Dal Sakoon, Shan Savera Kofta, Saag Pasand with cheese, Tandoori Roti and Garlic Naan. We enjoyed all the dishes; the flavors were good and the portions generous. It ended up being plenty of food and then some for the four of us. We had a great experience hosting a birthday party for my 5 year old. The person called Diya from restaurant management staff had helped us throughout the process. She was very detailed and transparent about the process from the beginning. We had booked the diamond hall which also has an attached outdoor area where kids could go and play. So, overall the hall was very spacious and it already had some chandeliers which was making it look even better. Food was very very good and we had both veg and non veg. Sakoon had also provided some of their serving staff for helping with the food prep, cleaning plates, etc. they even helped us with cutting the cake for distribution. I have visited Sakoon a few times and the experience has been getting worse. Their buffet has a good selection of items. However, the quality is very moderate, with some items simply not even worth touching. At my last visit, the goat curry was simply horrible. The meat was tasteless and tasted like rubber, which was difficult to chew. The chicken in the biryani was half cooked and the baked chicken was not any better. The kheer was very thin and it had obviously not been well prepared. The service was fine. Not going back! The restaurant's response to my review was pathetic. Instead of accepting a shortcoming and indicating better quality in the future, the guy is finger pointing and tagging me as a competitor. TLDR: No customer empathy from the OWNER himself and other management We had our daughter's first birthday party in Diamond hall. We worked with Diya. She was good throughout and ensured all our questions were addressed. However, this review is mainly for the owner of this place. On the event day, the AC in the hall wasn't working properly to the most extent. As hosts, we were very embarrassed with this situation as it was getting too hot. However, instead of simply admitting and being polite, the owner started arguing and plainly denied the malfunction of AC system. "Bring your own technician to confirm if it's really working or not..." is what he kept saying. Yes, most stupid and immature response from someone. His own STAFF admitted it and told us that the previous parties were also screwed because of this, he still didn't want to admit it. What could he do? 1. Admit, be polite, be empathetic 2. AC in the adjacent hall (similar looking/size) was working perfectly fine and also there was no event there. He knew about the malfunctioning of AC (staff had already reported about AC to him days back but he still didn't fix it) in the originally booked hall, so he could let us know about the situation in advance and just offer us that adjacent hall. Given this, I would not recommend working with such a rude and apathetic person. He doesn't respect his own staff, no wonder he fails to respect customers. read more

Amazing, Amazing and Amazing Sakoon has great Indian food. Never had a bad meal once in the last few years we have done take out, lunch buffet, dine in and catering too. Yesterday we did a DoorDash and it was quite quick. We ordered paneer peshawari, Sham savera kofta, 2 garlic naan, 1 onion kulcha, saffron rice. The packaging was really amazing. Nothing leaking. Everything was sealed properly. The food was enough for 4 people. In past we also did catering for 30 and they delivered top quality food. Food taste, presentation, quality and quantity was super good. All our guests loved the food and mostly everyone asked "Who catered the food?". 1 Star because of Extremely Bad Service at Fremont Location. It was a weekday and restaurant was not busy. Service was BAD, they dumped the food on the table, and did not come back to check or ask if we needed anything else. You will have to call then multiple times, if you need something. Another thing that ticked me off, was that i asked for Onion with Chicken, and later they charged me $3 for Onion as OPEN FOOD, and when asked they said that is Raw Onion is considered Salad. I catered Sakoon for my Sangeet and Wedding. The food was fantastic. Balkar and his team came through with an interesting vegetarian menu for each event. Many of my non-vegetarian and vegetarian friends praised the food days and weeks following the wedding. The main issue working with Sakoon was getting ahold of management to discuss any changes to the menu. It was quite stressful leading up to the wedding weekend, since the team was not very accessible. However, for both events, everything that was requested came through. I ordered shahi paneer and garlic naan to go. When I sat down to eat, there was NO PANEER IN SHAHI PANEER. When I say no paneer, it means ABSOLUTELY NO paneer. I called them up and the person who picked my call asked me to call after 5PM, as they are closed for the break. He said he can't help and hung up on me when I asked his name. I called them after 5PM and no response. It's like I have to do the hard work for their MISTAKE. This is such a horrible service. This is how you treat your customers.
