Went to a Mehandi event. It was so disappointing. Expecting good Pakistani food from the restaurant The food was absolutely awful. Nothing tastes good except the yogurt. I only like eating Bryani we were the first few people in line. I didn't find any meat in the bryani. So I decided to take the mutton korma and put it in my mouth and had to spit it out. (2/5) I ordered food from Mehran Restaurant in Newark with the hope of enjoying a good Pakistani meal, but unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. We ordered chicken seekh kabab, beef nihari, karahi gosht, karahi chicken, and naan. The naan and nihari were the only items that stood out and were enjoyable. However, I really wished the restaurant had provided the condiments for nihari on the side, as that would have improved the overall experience. The biggest disappointment was the karahi chicken and karahi gosht. Both dishes lacked flavor, were not cooked well, and tasted bland. For dishes that are usually known for their rich spices and aroma, these were far below expectations. I even took the time to call the restaurant the next day and speak with the owner to share my feedback. Unfortunately, there was no apology, no effort to offer a replacement, and no gesture of compensation. When a customer takes the time to personally reach out about a poor experience, acknowledging the concern and making an effort to resolve it goes a long way. Keeping the customer's payment while not addressing the quality issue leaves a very negative impression. I truly hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously and works on improving food quality and customer service. Tried the buffet, normally im skeptical but this buffet was good. Waiters were really really helpful. Naan and puris came by demand and always fresh. The halwa and channe were ok. Nihari was ok too. My wife and I heard about this restaurant from close friends. Was traveling through Fremont and decided to give it a try. We happened to arrive on the same day they had just finished an event and started another as this restaurant also caters. The staff here are super friendly and were patient in explaining their menu and options for the buffet. We choice to order from the menu. I loved the chicken kebab. It was so juicy and flavorful. Also the saag panner was amazing as well. The cheese was not as strong as other places. The lamb curry was a let down as it had more bones than meet. Waitress complemented us with chi to go. This buffet was very good. Better than the Mehran in Pittsburg even. It was crowded and busy with tables full and a banquet going on in the side room. Chicken biriyani was tender and not dry but fluffy rice. Pya( beef feet- all meats halal) was excellent and my husband loved it! The naan was so fluffy and thick! This is the best naan I have had bc I like it fluffy! Chole was on point. The beef nihari was tender beef falling apart and very good. My husband's family all experts in the cuisine all said the food was very good! Spinach with aloo was delicious and aloo achar which I never had was good too. That had a distinctive flavor profile to it- kind of pickled tiny bit sour but good. Butter chicken very rich and yummy. What I REALLY liked was halva which was yellow in color with almonds ( or is said Suji on index card in front of it) which is a sweet dessert( like cream of wheat texture). I make it at home even and I'm not fond of sweets but this was buttery and very tasty! Along with kheer ( rice pudding but really ground up)- like I said, I'm not into desserts or sweets usually ( I like fried or savory), but these were sooo good I could have been happy just eating those two dishes alone lol! They also served poori( fried crispy kind of paratha) with the suji and I even ate it with the kheer rice pudding! Served with nice hot chai tea! I haven't had a good buffet especially after Covid for a long time or even good food really in a restaurant after, so this is good decent food! Mehran catered at our son's wedding in July. Our event was in San Ramon. I don't have enough words about how excellent the food was. We ordered around 10 dishes. The quality, the quantity, the service, the punctuality, everything was perfect! They say that at desi weddings, food is the main focus and that should be the best one can afford. People talk about it for years and never forget. We have 2 more children and we willl go through Mehran inshallah for both of them. We had over 400 people at our function. I think this is one of the best breakfast brunches that you can get. There's another one that comes very close in San Jose but this place is amazing. Enjoy it every time. I first went to Mehran restaurant for lunch. They had good variety of food and the food was good too. So I had them cater food for my upcoming Aftar/dinner. I must say their staff was very polite and courteous, especially the manager Mr Saood. He's the reason I placed my first order at the restaurant. I ordered their butter chicken, Chana masala, dahi baras and goat pulao. (the dahi baras cld be better though) Our guests loved the food. The quantity was ample. We were the first customers at 6pm. We ordered: 1. aloo palak $6.99-potatoes & spinach cooked in spices - tasted fine 2. Dal masala - lentils in a special sauce $6-plumb lentils that were chunky..i like mine very mushy and in a soup, this was more a stew. 3. tandoori chicken-chicken marinated in spices $8.99-hubby really liked this, I thought it was fine. 4. garlic naan $1.95-garlic flavored leavened bread.
