Sakura Buffet - $25 for a drink and one plate i couldnt bring myself to eat - New American Near Me - Lakewood, New York

Service here was very good. We ordered water as opposed to soft drinks, and the Staff filled our water several times during the meal. She also removed plates promptly after we placed emptied to the side. When we finished our dessert (bulk ice cream that we scooped out of tubs in a freezer - chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and butter pecan) and cookies, she left our check with two fortune cookies and did not rush us to pay. Nice variety of foods. From a variety of sushi pieces and rolls, traditional Chinese dishes (beef with onion, General Tso chicken, lo mein, green beans, etc), Hibachi grill, three types of soup, an extensive salad bar, steak, ribs, chicken wings, pizza and other things. There's a lot to eat. Overall, the food seemed well prepared (properly cooked) and tasted good. Some specifics: The hot and sour soup had nice ingredients and herbs and spices, but could have had more spiciness. The steak was great. It was tender and medium. The wings were meaty with a crisp skin with Franks hot sauce. The Chinese entrees were fine. Nothing terribly memorable. The green beans were great. Nice and crunchy and well prepared. The sushi was a nice variety. They were being kept cold in the serving area and there was plenty of wasabi available. The dumplings (fried) were tasty. The other dim sum was ok. The fried shrimp were good. Here's the problem. We ate there about 3 hours ago and my partner has - sorry about this - been to the bathroom twice and I'm feeling a little uncomfortable in my stomach. Bottom line, the food overall tasted good. Service was great. I (and my partner) are willing to give the place another shot and hopeful that the discomfort was a one-off. Unfortunately, we are just visiting the area this week and likely won't be back anytime soon. So we'll never know. Hopefully, others will review the restaurant soon and can add their two-cents. The restaurant is located in what appears to be a dying mall. It's a huge space with lots of tables. Check your change. I did weighted takeout. I went to pay and my total was $20+change. I gave 2x20s and received 2x5s and a nickel for change. I was shorted $9!! That's a huge tip on a $20 bill, plus it was takeout and I served myself so not even tip worthy. Shame on me for just stuffing it into my wallet and leaving without counting. It's a very good buffet. After 4 you get steak, seafood and sushi. Very tasty Chinese offerings. Ample salad bar. Numerous desserts and an ice cream case full of delicious hand dip. Definitely an incredible value. Especially for the seafood, sushi and steaks. read more

In Chautauqua Mall in Lakewood, N.Y. on errands and our son asked to get a bite in this restaurant. Since pandemic ( really before) I'm leery of anything buffet for obvious reasons. We missed the lunch special $9.99 stops at 3:40 p.m. We paid dinner prices. It's still a good deal for what they are offering. We were allowed to see what was offered and we were pleased with the menu! Sushi section, Hibachi, Carving area of Steak and Ham, Cold seafood of shrimp, clams, mussels, Hot seaffod section Salmon, mussels and clams. Cold salads and Hot vegetables area. The rest of the menu is too much to mention but looked appetizing that we tried many options! Signs were on the partitions that it was not self serving but it was, all customers were respectful and all dividers and areas were maintained and clean. The place is very clean and were compliant with social distancing. Hand sanitizers were everywhere. The bathrooms were clean. The staff were professional, friendly and welcoming to customers. I loved the food and EVERYTHING. Up until the end. Our "waitress" who only brought me one drink and the bill. Gave me the check and waited right there while I was talking for the money. And she said "You can pay now." While I was sitting there finishing my meal. My boyfriend and I hadn't even discussed who was paying and she just stood there staring at me. Finally my boyfriend gave her his card. And she then took it and paid for us. Upon her return she stood waiting for us to tip her. IN FRONT OF HER. Just standing there. Not even giving me a minute to discuss the tip. At this point my boyfriend had written a tip down on the receipt and she stood there WAITING FOR MORE MONEY. My husband seems to like eating here for the sushi and Chinese buffet aspect (which I only eat a limited amount of), but I haven't been impressed both times I've eaten there. The food itself isn't worth the money, in my opinion. The American food is average. If you have a picky eater, it's nice that they offer pizza, fried chicken and French fries. The salad bar isn't the best I've ever had. The dessert selection was nothing that I would pick out, though my boys did like the ice cream (4-5 hard ice cream selections). The wait staff is okay and did make sure that our plates were cleared in a timely manner, however, they only came by to refill my son's drink once when it was already half full and didn't refill the rest of our drinks at all during the time that we were there. However, my main issue was with the employees behind the buffet. I had just walked up to the buffet with my teenage sons and we were looking at the options. There had already been a pair of salad tongs dropped into some sort of red sauce by someone else. Apparently, this employee thought that we had done it because they came loudly yelling, "Oh, no, no, no, no!" and shaking their head at us before grabbing them and bring them into the kitchen area. I wasn't impressed with this in the slightest because 1. We had nothing to do with it. 2. It was something that the employee could have handled quietly simply taking them into the kitchen, and not saying a word without all the other patrons around seeing us get scolded for something we didn't do. read more

Just went earlier for lunch. Not a consistent fan of Asian food but when the urge strikes there's no way to ignore it. This was a real treat. First off the staff was very polite and accommodating. The selection and quality of food was enormous. There is a small selection of american food for young ones. All of the food was fresh and definitely was not sitting out for any length of time. 9.95 for all you can eat lunch is a great deal. I was not charged for beverage refills. The atmosphere was pleasant and probably the only downside to this visit was that the deserts were few and kind of plain. Will definitely return. read more

I used to go there all of the time. Until I got food poisoning from it. I did go pretty late in the evening. Around 8:00 before we went to the movies ....but that is no reason to not keep their food quality standards from people getting sick. I did eat the crab legs and some sushi and hibatchi. The selection was as good as in a much larger city. There is a hibachi bar with an excellent chef that makes food to order from a raw buffet, the selection was not great but ok for an add on to the buffet. Food was warm and not over cooked as if it had been sitting out all day. Great choice for children also read more

For a buffet, this one is a lot of fun. The decor is a treat. Unique lighting, chandeliers, and the upside down lit banzai tree greats you when entering from the outside entrance. First off a wait staff spilled a drink all over my girlfriend and then as we arr paying for the check and leaving one of the waitresses that speaks very little English starts hawking me down after signing the receipt because I did not put a tip on it.. Not sure what Jeff M above means, as Sakura is unlike any buffet I've ever seen. First of all, Jeff, it's Japanese food, not Chinese. Perhaps that's why you didn't give it such a great rating--they didn't have your Chow Mein? Sakura has an huge range of items at three enormous counters, including oysters! Every imaginable kind of Japanese item, including delicious sushi, but also American favorites as well, like fried chicken and mac & cheese. All you can eat for $11.99. Soft drinks are extra, but bottomless. The Japanese wait staff were harried but pleasant and efficient. The food itself: the quality of some of the items is somewhat average, but more than made up for by the ones that are super delicious. After your first visit you'll know what's what for next time. It's a corporate idea of an Asian buffet, but it mostly works very well. The place was packed, with a line at the door at least 20 deep. But there was enough turnover, that the wait was under ten minutes. Jamestown/Lakewood needs more interesting dining experiences. Some who've never had Japanese food will love it so much they'll hit up Fuji across the street for more--and they have a hibachi there. read more

I have always looked forward to going to this restaurant, but the last couple times I have been disappointed. The sushi has always been the main reason for going there. I am not sure why, but this review is my way of letting the management they need find a new sushi chef, or getting the current chef to improve his or her menu selection. As a past server, I could tell and see that she was busy with other tables. But what gave our waitress Lisa a 1-star review was around desert time.
