Miso is so good for this gloomy cold valentines day
    Karina J.

I had a great time I made a reservation 2 hours ahead of time and then were happy to fit us in. When we got there it was not too busy but then after we were sat it started to get packed. We had the 2 bento dinners it came with miso soup for starters and it came with 2 items chose California rolls and chicken teriyaki. We also has a new sushi because we were adventurous called the crunchy roll with shrimp tempura and cucumber plus unagi sauce... so delicious. We also ordered gyoza and rack of lamb as appetizers. For drinks we got a very cold crisp Sapporro Japanese beer definitely a good call to go with dinner. All the food was so scrumptious and it came out pretty fast no waiting for us and the service was nice and attentive. Definitely recommend if you want a nice quiet dinner. Also, it's kid friendly as well.

So lovely. Always the most friendly service, quick seating and consistently quality seafood. By my second visit I was a regular. And yes I love that kind of thing, but it speaks to their work that they get the little things right while still nailing the big ones. I am usually a same sashimi gobbler but here, it's all about the Hamachi. Delish. Chill layout and location in the heart of Alameda's Park St shopping and dining strip.

Always great service! They know my usual orders with the hot sake. Sashimi is always fresh!

*Open for indoor dining* Have come here quite a few times and this place wasn't bad at first. Was a little disappointed by my most recent visit. Service and staff: - The service here is good - staff is kind, accommodating, and gets orders out as soon as possible - Staff don't wear masks Food: - Golden Roll: this roll was not the best. I'm not sure if it was the differing temperatures between the ingredients - 49ers Roll: this roll isn't bad. This is one I typically get and is filling - Sakura Roll: this roll is good, but a bit difficult to eat due to the texture of the peeled cucumber, causing the fish to fall out - Side salad: this salad is tasty with the miso dressing Miscellaneous: - Street parking is available - The menu has many, many typos. In the "futo" roll, one of the ingredients listed is "oshiko", which means pee in Japanese. This should say "oshinko", which means pickled radish in Japanese, and is what is in the roll. - Overall, the hometown feel of this restaurant keeps us coming back to support. In regards to quality of fish and the menu, it's so-so

Nice spot, staff was friendly and food was bomb.com. Cozy little vibe, got salmon lover rose and crunch monkey. Gyozas best I've had on the island

We've been coming to Sakura for years now, and it's as excellent as ever. Fresh, delicious, reasonably-priced sushi in a friendly environment. Michelle the hostess is lovely, and always takes great care of us. IMO this is probably the best sushi spot in Alameda for the price point.

Back again in Alameda CA! We came in late, about 8:30 after freezing while watching youth baseball. The staff was nice and let us warm up before ordering. I had some tea and hot Sake, that will warm you up! We went to eat at Sakura with regular diners and they literally ordered by the numbers 24, 34, Shrimp Tempura, etc. I had no clue what was coming to the table. I was ok with that, I had my Sake. We ordered Seafood udon and shared with the table. The food was good, warm and delicious. The staff was friendly and the sushi came to the table quickly. We'll definitely be back and let our friends order by the number again.

Sushi was okay, not the best ever definitely had better. I came in at lunch time only two other parties were there and the service was pretty bad. They just never come back to check and see if you need anything else. We had to call the waitress 3 times just to order additional items. Ordered calamari as an appetizer it wasn't at all what I expected. This I would definitely never have again or recommend to anyone. The Kamikaze roll was good it seemed fresh. I liked this place because it's small and cozy. I wouldn't say that I wouldn't come here again but it's definitely not up there as one of my top choices. If you are in the area and want decent sushi on the fly then maybe this is a good stop.

This place is "a hit or miss" kind of restaurant! Some dishes are really good, and some aren't as good. We ordered: California Roll: There was nothing special about this it was just a crabmeat stick with avocado and didn't look very appealing. Volcano Roll: It was a little over fried and a little dry. It looked amazing. Fresh Oysters: the server who said it was super fresh recommended them us! It was hands down really fresh and sweet. Their spicy sauce was super yummy too! Baked Mussels: The mussels were not baked? It felted like it was steamed and they put some mayo and garlic bits on top. The mussels tasted fresh and not bad! Avocado Bomb: It looked super appetizing, but the spicy tuna inside tasted like had been in the refrigerator for a few days. Black Dragon: The fried tempura was not fresh and tasted a little stale. Spider Roll: The soft shell crab tasted a little stale, and it felt like they had fried it a day before serving it to us. The ambiance of this restraint is chill, and it wasn't super crowded like other sushi restaurants. The server was very informative and super helpful (she gave us a free seaweed salad and edamame). The price of each dish was a little on the more pricey side. It was hard to find street parking since it is an area filled with other restaurants! ***********My overall ratings************ Taste: 3 stars Price: 3 stars Environment & Cleanliness: 3.5 stars Service: 4 stars

Oyakodon and katsudon! It comes with miso soup and salad (not pictured) each.

Although the donburi originally caught his eye, we ended up ordering sushi instead. As someone who finally got over the texture issue of sushi, I've been eating more of it and loving it. Hayashi had such fresh fish and a wonderful plating. Is it pricey? Yes, but most sushi places are nowadays. We did spend over $100 on food but we were stuffed and enjoyed every bite. My friend made sure I tried things I'd never had before! They also gave us free scoops of ice cream at the end. The service was terrific. A lady came and took our order on an electronic pad and our food came out fairly quickly. The interior is about the same as the precious donburi restaurant that owned it but comfortable regardless. The bathroom was also clean. As always, parking directly around this area is tight unless you go later at night or you park at the parking garage by the Alameda Theatre or go on a week day after 7 pm.

Based on the reviews I decided to stop by and order a roll to satisfy my craving. Upon entry, I noticed the restaurant was fairly empty (great) and it appeared that only one employee was working at the time. The employee was pleasant he answered my questions and was quick with completing my order. My roll appeared to be made with care and I couldn't wait to dive in. To say the least my roll was A-Mazing. The ingredients tasted fresh. The roll didn't burst open as I picked it up with my chopsticks, etc. My concern is with the prices. This Japanese restaurant food items are priced really high. I paid $25 dollars for a pretty basic tempura roll. I wanted to try some other items but didn't want to leave out paying $50 for a to go meal.

We stopped in for dinner with some out-of-town family during the Christmas holiday, and the whole experience was utterly delightful. The staff were warm and welcoming, the ambiance was pleasant, and (most importantly) the food was EXCELLENT. I neglected to get pics of everything we ordered, but my Tofu Don (teriyaki tofu with ground pork and eggs over rice) was incredibly tasty - the perfect "comfort food" for a cold rainy evening. I can't say enough about how lovely and kind the staff were. They went way beyond simply taking our order and serving our food - rather, they made us feel like family, treated us to dessert, and even sent us home with a small bottle of sake as a thank you for dining with them. This place is new and probably a bit under the radar at the moment, but it really deserves to become one of the must-try joints in Alameda. Check it out ASAP!

Kamakura was one of my favorite Japanese restaurants and I was sad when they had to close, then glad when this place opened! It's brighter with more natural light than Kamakura used to be. The waitress came by with a dish of mango ice cream at the end, along with plum wine (homage to Kamakura?) We don't drink so we politely declined the wine, but the ice cream was delicious!

Once you walk into the restaurant, there's indoor and outdoor seating available. The outdoor seating is covered by a patio, and on colder days, I'm assuming they will put a heater out there? I'm not too sure, since I don't actually eat outside often. Indoor is well lit up, and has a decent amount of seating. The biggest table I have seen seats around 6 people, but can be more if you have small children I suppose. We mostly order the rolls here, and to be fair, it's a decent pricing. However, it is a hit or miss. 1. Lion King - Decent. Taste all the same everywhere you go if you ask me. 2. Deep Fried Spicy Tuna - Must have, definitely my favorite. 3. Golden Gate - More on the saucy side with imitation crab meat, it's basic. 4. Dragon Roll - Again, same anywhere you go. 5. Double Salmon Roll - Salmon on the inside, salmon on the outside. Cheaper alternative than to just getting nigiri or salmon sashimi. The customer service here is not the best in my opinion. The first time we took a friend there for his birthday, and it was terrible. The host, waiter/server, and manager disregarded us. However, a table next to us got the friendliest treatment. The type of treatment you give when you expect them to come back so you can address them by their name. The second time we've been here, the customer service was basic. No expectations, just take your order, serve, and a simple question of how is everything. Honestly, customer service could have been much more reasonable at even the most basic level. Overall, the food is ok. I wouldn't say it's like the best, but if you're here for lunch or a quick bite, it's fine.

It was filling and we really enjoyed the different fish. We ordered both types of uni (Santa Barbara and Hokkaido) - the Hokkaido uni was our favorite! Be sure to ask the chef for their opinion too if you can't decide. The soup and the salad with the omakase was good - the dressing for the salad was pretty yummy too, though probably could've used a tiny bit less of it! I think with all the add-ons we really ran up the bill, but it was still really good, unrushed service, and just a nice peaceful spot for our group to catch up. Overall, definitely recommend for omakase in the area and extra plus that it is in a plaza so parking isn't an issue like some of the other popular places in Alameda.

My only real critique is the setup there: everyone has to use the same community utensil/tongs to grab the green onions, which feels a bit unsanitary. A different dispensing setup would be a great upgrade. As for the customer service, it is what it is, but it was really cool to watch the chef working through the steam, freshly making the noodles right in front of you.
