First time visiting this establishment, and I'm so glad I stopped in! The salad bar is amazing!…read moreSoooo many yummy things to choose from; the salad I built was beyond delicious and very fresh. I saw another review saying that they found it overly expensive, but that was not my experience, especially for the quality and variety. My large salad, with tons of extra "pile-on" extras like chicken salad (on the side of my recyclable bowl), baked & sliced chicken breast, and hummus only cost me around eight dollars (that was including my Glaceau bottled Smart Water). If you went to a chain restaurant and ordered one of their large entree salads, I really can't imagine it would be cheaper, probably more, actually, and undoubtedly less fresh with less goodies. And that entree salad price likely wouldn't even include your drink. They also have soups, baked regular and sweet potatoes that you can load up with toppings, Mac & cheese, and you can make wraps with the ingredients from the salad bar. So, I'll be stopping by when I'm back in town; this place is A++!

Ambiance 3.5 Stars Open concept with multiple tables w chairs or bench seating. Airy and light, clean tables and chairs. Service: 3 Stars This is a self-serve salad bar where you build your own salad bowl. So employee interaction was minimal. No one greeted us and the only time we had interaction was when we went to the cashier. She was pleasant and a wonderful smile but it seems the staff were preoccupied with their tasks. Food: 3.25 Stars Nothing special about the salad bar. There are menu cards where it has several bowl options with pre-fixed ingredients you can follow or just go crazy and make your unique bowl. The based is rice or leafy greens. From there, just follow the procession to make your creation. The salad bowl I made has Korean BBQ CHICKEN as the protein but it didn't taste anything like KOREAN BBQ. Now the veggies were fresh and there a lot of options to choose, however you are limited on the type of protein. There are soup options too but I didn't get any. They didn't look as good. I'm not saying they are bad but there wasn't an option I wanted. NOTE: Everything is a'la carte and it is weighed on a scale. So, if you have a hefty bowl, soup, or other food items, the price will "skyrocket". Drinks are separate too. Our meal cost us $30 (2 salads and drink each) I forgot to take a picture of our salad bowls due to a call from a client and got distracted. However, there are other pictures of the salad bar options. Though the food was fresh and ok, I don't know if I will come back. Limited staff interaction and they still want a "Tip" when you paid. I declined on that option. Heck, I built my salad bowls and got my own drink. I should tip myself. I think "tipping" is getting out of hand at self service or take out options.

My parents were big fans of the Gold Post so I ate here quite a few times growing up. It had been…read morequite a few decades since my last visit when I decided to stop in and try it out again. My first return visit was quite pleasant and I was very surprisingly pleased as their shrimp gumbo actually tasted like gumbo which often isn't the case once you get outside of Louisiana. I also sampled their burger with a side of onion rings which was decent but the burger was more of a thin patty fast food style burger while I prefer the NOLA style thick beef patty. I made another visit to try out their poboy so I again got the shrimp gumbo along with a shrimp poboy. This visit was not as pleasant as the first as the shrimp gumbo just seemed off while the poboy was alright but the bread seemed a bit less than fresh. In NOLA poboy bread is good for one day and goes stale so then it is used to make bread pudding. The big poboy bread bakeries in NOLA have started to ship out their bread to other places and somehow have found a way to keep it fresh longer but it still just seems you can't get that same fresh poboy bread experience anywhere outside of NOLA. The ambiance of Gold Post is till 1970's fantastic with nothing being changed from the way I remember it as a kid so that is always nostalgic. The service at Gold Post is fast food style where you order at the counter but they do clean your table. Overall this is a decent joint and one of the few poboy spots in Hattiesburg, MS.

You can even get them "dressed" Nola style with your choice of gravy. Yum Yum Yum! The shrimp po'boy is just as delicious with beautifully executed super crunchy savory battered shrimp, seasoned to perfection. The tiny bistro French fries here are Amazeballs, perfect marriage with NOLA po'Boys :)... AND, the red beans & rice are served traditional NOLA style with French bread. You can get a cup or a bowl, we got a bowl & took one home. The salads here are also worth the drive, they even have their own signature dressing. it's over 2 hours for us but when we need a NOLA fix with nostalgia, it's a Hail Mary to the "GoldPost." Will return. Highest Recommendations.

Our server, Cameron, was kind, patient, and attentive as we waited for our friend to arrive. He was also extremely knowledgeable about the menu, and offered great suggestions based on his personal favorites. We started with the crabmeat wontons, which I was expecting to favor traditional rangoons, but these were crispy gyozo dumplings, filled with a savory and smooth blend of crab and cream cheese, and served with sweet chili sauce. They didn't last long on the table :) Even my husband, who usually doesn't like seafood, dug in! Intrigued by the subtle twist on a classic, my husband chose the fried chicken and beignets. I was allowed a bite :) and it was hard to stop there! The flavor of both components was outstanding, and the crispy texture, perfect. I wasn't quite as hungry, so I asked if I could do a classic Caesar salad and add creole shrimp. When I say this was the best salad I've ever had, I'm not exaggerating! The flavor of the dressing was so simple yet rich, the croutons were light and tasted freshly-made, and the shrimp were deliciously savory, with a blackened flavor that exceeded my expectations. All in all, a great dining experience that we will share with others traveling through the area, and will repeat if we're ever back!

When it comes down to it, it's about the food! The server was a nice young lady & that was about the only saving grace of my over priced & long wait supper. This place looks cool but I want better food, more fair pricing & faster service. I'd recommend you look elsewhere if you want a tasty meal. Don't let the "cool vibe look" deceive you!
