Okay I went again like two days later after the lunch rush and I had a much better experience. There was literally no one in there. Just me. The lady who helped me.was very nice and asked me if it was my first time and was very patient and attentive as I put together my salad. I settled on a small Salata mix with my choice of toppings. I got the exact same thing I got the first time. I love that they have alfalfa sprouts. I mentioned the shrimp looked good and asked if she'd had it before and she offered me a sample, it was tasty. I would definitely try that as my protein next time. I think the thing that I like about Salata is the flat rate you pay for you to make your salad how you want. I am sure there are certain things you may have to pay extra for though like extra protein....I don't know for sure. I also like the pita chips as an option for your bread. I like that they are not like the store bought ones. They seem homemade or locally made. They are dark brown with salt flakes. I also like that they offer flavored teas and lemonade that are brewed and made fresh. It's not like Lipton or Nestea out of the machine, you know. And to top it all off, she threw a caramel from Dallas Caramel Company in my bag. I'm not a big caramel fan but this one was so good and soft that I Google the company. This was by far the worst customer service of all the locations. The Blackburn location. I ordered a wrap and added chicken which she gave me 5 small pieces that I counted and I said can you make it a serving and she said you have to pay extra. Three words: Fresh. Herb. Vinaigrette. I feel like Salata is often overlooked because it's sort of hidden in the deep crevices of Uptown. But this place is a freakin' salad goldmine. The freshest ingredients, including PESTO MARINATED CHICKEN? OKAY. And the fresh herb vinaigrette is probably the cure for cancer. You can also get a wrap, i.e. carbs are not the enemy here. Salata is a nice concept that is reminiscent of a more upscale version of the old Souper Salad chain. Previous experience was at The Woodlands location and loved it This location is easy to get to and surprisingly is easy to find parking. On nice days, the outdoor bistro tables are a must. I don't know about you but I can't handle the build-your-own meal responsibility. If you've never been here, it's like Chipotle but with salad instead of burrito bowls. And if you've never been to Chipotle then we can't be friends and you shouldn't even finish reading this. Anyway, like I was saying. It's like Chipotle, you stand in line pick your lettuce, pick your toppings, meat (if any), and dressing. I can't handle this. Ranch with strawberries, jalapeños, oranges, and eggs. Sure why not? Put it all in the bowl, it's the same price for god's sake!!! Then I'm always disgusted by my salad. Wait! It's not their fault that I am inept. True fact. The food is always fresh and some times the staff is friendly. I enjoy eating my food and watching the traffic and ppl pass by. Its also in a great location in west village so when your done eating if you want to take a stroll around the block its very easy to do and some times interesting... I was going to give this place 5 stars but I just tried to take a pic so I could get this place some business from someone who has never heard of salata and yelp. I am definitely a salad guru and eat at least 1 salad a day so when Salata first opened up a few months ago offering a fast, relatively inexpensive salad that I could run in and get and even eat by myself without feeling like a loser (I eat alone here a lot lol) I became quite excited. Since then I have became a regular and come in and least 2-4 times a week. Now I won't say this is the best salad ever by any means but I LOVE the options of all the toppings (way more than eatzis). They tend I remember me here at this point so that always brings a smile to my face. For those that have never been ere here's how it works: -You wait in a line and step up and order either a salad (romaine, spinach, spring mix or their special blend) or a wrap (haven't tried wrap yet but have heard positives). They give you a set amount of lettuce and even if you try to trick them they won't give you extra lol -You choose your toppings and there are a bunch to choose from and you can have "unlimited" but some complain you don't get much of each so I just nicely ask for more of the toppings I feel passionate about haha and it works just fine. When I first started here I would get a TON of different toppings but more is not always better. You have to imagine how strawberries and jalapeños taste together in your mouth. Yeah not so good so I've got more of a system down to a few of my faves and just get extra of them :) -You then choose your dressing. My fave is fresh herb. It's delicious but the problem I have now is that they give you one scoop and if you want any extra it's $1 more. Yes that's just a dollar but wait this is a salad place and the only thing you should provide is salad and dressing. I am disappointed by this upcharge. Also NEVER get the avocado. They charge $1 and you get like a tiny bit. RIDICULOUS. -You choose your meat (chicken with all kinds of yummy seasoning, salmon, shrimp etc) this is like $2 more so normally I just get a lot of tofu and skip the meat section. -Lastly you get bread and you can choose soup for $2. Tomato Basil is my fave. It's DELICIOUS! Overall this place is FAST, yummy and convenient but the downside would be the new charges with the salad dressing and the fact that they barely give you any toppings unless you ask for more. They put it in a cold bowl for you that helps keep the salad cold and they have yummy cold teas that go great with the fresh salads! Look for me when you come in bc I'm here a lot hahaha. read more

Healthy, delicious, easy, That's how I'd describe lunch at Salata. You build your own salad or wrap by telling the worker behind the salad bar/counter what you want from the variety of vegetables, protein, and garnishments displayed behind the glass. The selection is awesome. So many different types of vegetables to choose from and so many varieties of dressing and garnishments. As for the protein, the selection ranges from chicken to salmon to seafood combos to other options I can't recall at the moment. I went overboard on my first visit, adding everything I loved. After a few more visits, I'm a smarter salad builder today. :) Salata also has great iced teas. They have a variety of unsweetened flavored teas -- both green and black -- that I always get. And, of course, I always leave with a refill. On my first few visits, there wasn't much of a lunch crowd. On my most recent visit, however, there was a huge lunch crowd and a long line at the salad bar. Fortunately, the line moved pretty quickly and we were lucky enough to grab a table just as its occupants were leaving. read more

I added this place to my bookmarks because it looked pretty cool. I came during lunch. I wasn't too impressed. The place isn't bad at all, but it isn't GREAT. It's not that I don't like salads. I love salads, I'm a salad girl. It's just not something you fall off your chair for. It's pretty, "basic." They have a variety of toppings (except zucchini *sad face*), dressings & wraps. This is a place where you go if you're on a diet, or simply looking for a healthier option rather than your typical high in calories lunch meal. I give them credit for that. I'd definitely come again for lunch. It's fun to "make your own" salad, rather than buying a regular salad. But if you're a foodie like me, who works out simply because I love to stuff my face with good food, then you would agree that in order for us (as a foodie community) to be excited about eating healthy, there really has to be that "wow" factor there that makes us keep coming. I give 5 stars to any build your own salad restaurant that doesn't limit your toppings count or make you pay for additional toppings after you hit the topping count threshold. Delicious homemade dressings and various marinated chicken. The wraps are also HUGE so this place can also appeal to the non-salad lover. The line moves quickly because all the toppings are pre-chopped and no need for the associate to individually chop each salad at the end. One issue with the Uptown location is limited seating during peak lunch hour. If you're trying to go in a group, plan to go anytime other than 12 - 1. read more

I stumbled upon this place today and decided to give it a try for lunch. I wasn't sure what to expect other than by its title I knew it was something having to do with salads. It was basically a build your own salad type place. You pick your lettuce, veggies, meat, etc. I LOVE places like this only because I'm a picky eater and often times have to edit salads on a menu. All of the ingredients looked fresh, although you cant really tell canned peas from not canned peas so its not like I'd know the difference by glancing. I do wish they had more light salad dressing options. Even the vinaigrette has a heavy cream base. It also would be nice if they had a red meat option. All I saw was chicken, tuna, shrimp, salmon and crab. My total came to about $11. Adding chicken is $2 and adding 1/2 an avocado is $1. It was a decent salad but for $11 Id rather go to Eatzi's and get a $9 salad that I LOVE. Overall its a good place to grab a quick lunch to go or sit inside. read more

Salata is a quick, grab and go sit concept serving up salads, wraps and soups that contain only the freshest ingredients. So often, salad bars over charge by A LOT based on how many toppings and fixins' you include in your dish but not here! You can pick as many items as you want and then you pay additional based on the protein you choose. They have marinated tofu, grilled chicken, pesto chicken, shrimp, salmon and more! Get your salad in a wrap for a little extra oomph! I went in this week and got a wrap, a cup of soup and a slice of basil pesto bread and my total with tax was just $12. A steal! read more

I'm going to compare this place to Snappy Salads because they're the same kind of restaurant. Pros: * Better selection of toppings * Prices are slightly more reasonable * No real limitation on number of toppings Cons: * Service is pretty bad, came here during lunch on a weekend and there was 4-5 people in line but it still took 10+ minutes because the lady kept going back and forth * The amount that you get of each going varies WILDLY because they don't use a spoon or anything. I was getting little sprinkles of toppings while the person next to me was getting massive handfuls. Please use a portioned spoon like Snappy Salads! * Still pretty expensive. $14 for a chicken salad and a drink is pretty pricey. * The food doesn't really taste as good. I was craving a salad last night and DH found this place. Since we were going to Theatre Three afterwards, this was convenient. Had to park in the garage, but it's very close and was no problem. I like the area - people walking their dogs, chilling out sitting outside the little stores/restaurants on the sidewalk. I was amazed at the selections at Salata and everything looked fresh and tempting. I got a large salad (huge!) and really had to reign myself in while choosing the toppings. It's very tempting to get one of each and that would make a weird salad. Had the balsamic dressing and it was great - tangy and delicious. The staff was so professional and polite, while also being casual. They weren't stingy with the toppings at all and let us take our time choosing. It wasn't crowded, so it was probably the best time to be there. I really liked this location, the staff, the drink selection (raspberry lemonade for me) and the salad (wonderful). It was 10 bucks (no meat added), but if I ordered one at a regular restaurant it would have been that much or more for a salad like that. We'll be back! read more

If you want salad with 4 tomatoes, 5 corn pieces and 2 slices of cucumber on top of a few lettuce leafs and to pay $10 for it, you came to the right place! Its one thing to charge $10 for a salad, but why being so CHEAP?? she was counting the amount of tomatoes, when you ask for more she is giving you a face and doing you a favor by adding another one. Visiting on a Sunday, the store was relatively empty. Although the address is Blackburn, the entrance is around the side of the building. There is outside seating and a small dining room. The salad is very fresh and delicious. They are extremely stingy with their toppings, as other reviews have said. So very much so. I should've heeded their caution. Had lunch here with a coworker. I noticed other reviewers stating the employees are stingy with toppings, and we noticed the same thing. If you ask them for extra, they will do it but they seem annoyed. If their price point was a little lower ($8, perhaps?) I LOVE this place. I was introduced to Salata by my best friend a few months ago and have been hooked ever since. I'm in almost every weekend. I love how convenient, quick, healthy, fresh, tasty, and affordable it is. I don't know what all the bad reviews are about. This isn't a high end restaurant, it's literally a build your own salad assembly line style kind of like chipotle. I find the portions filling and the ladies serving my order have no issue giving me an extra scoop here and there when I ask. They're just trying to get my order done and I'm just trying to get my food no need for small talk it's mutual. When I'm not being held up in line by nit picky indecisive customers I am In and out in under 10 minutes AND under $15 bucks! AND fresh AND healthy. Hubs and I frequent this Salata location when we want to pick up a quick salad to-go. Large selection of fresh veggies and ingredients for your salad or wrap. I like the balsamic vinaigrette and the fat-free sun-dried tomato dressing. Good stuff! One thing I wish the entire chain would implement is suggested salads (a la Pie Five with their suggested pies OR you can totally create your own) with the ingredients listed. This new salata is great. The location is right near my work. They offer lots of great different toppings for your salad. I arrived on opening day where they were offering 5 dollar salads on opening day! A great deal. I wish they had that every day. You should get the herb vinaigratte which i heard is fresh and made daily. Not sure if that's true or not. Nonetheless, it's tasty and goes well with any salad combination. read more
