This evening I went to Salata in Stone Oak (San Antonio, Texas). I "discovered" Salata about 3 weeks ago and since then I have been eating, ordering and buying to go salads about 3 times a week because I liked very much the healthy concept. Until today I was a happy customer. This evening when I was completing my transaction (a $34 dlls transaction) the manager or the owner approached me. I honestly believed he wanted to tell me how much he appreciated my business and even to suggest a frequent buyer or costumer card or something like that. I was surprised that he told me that next time I ordered that many toppings he will have to charge me extra. I told him that I had no idea that the toppings were limited, there were no signs indicating imitations, and he even went further in his greedy comments when he mentioned that "all the cheese that I put in my salad was enough to broke his business". I tried to defend or justify myself and told him that I didn't even touched the spoon, but instead his employees served and controlled the portions. He responded that his employee had many years working for him (irrelevant comment since the business is new). By the way, I just made myself a salad online order with exactly same ingredients as I did today and obviously I was not charged extra at the online option. He made me felt bad. I will never ever return to a place where I am supposed to chose the way my meal is prepared but at the same time I feel observed and limited. That individual was rude, and if he is to become broke it won't be for the cheese that went into my salads but for his unfriendly attitude, lack of appreciation of business, and greediness. That is not regularly the Texas attitude and friendliness that we are accustomed to experience in our State. I absolutely love this place! It is clean and the food is always fresh. They have so many great options for a salad which makes me feel as though I am being really healthy! I love this place. I come 2-3x a week for lunch and dinner with my family. Everything is always fresh and looks so good. The Tomato Basil soup is our favorite and the bread. We joined the text deals and that brings us in even more. My only recommendation is to just get the small salad. My husband a few times got the large and when we compared it to each other's it was the same size and amount. When they first opened it was great and there was a size difference. They were told to scale back since then and now it's less for both and the large became the same. Maybe they could weigh out or do something to show a difference. Five stars because this place is insanely delicious and they make it so easy/fun to be healthy!! A little pricey but you can really customize your plate with everything and anything you could ask for. You won't leave hungry after eating a salad here, the portion is just right! I love the seafood mix, avocado, orange slices, broccoli, sprouts, grapes, and jicama over spinach with honey mustard dressing. So we go into the location tonight and noticed that there was a sign that they were closing early due to short staffed. We were excited that we had 15 min before they closed. Have been traveling this week so was looking forward to a healthy salad. My wife ordered a small and the girl grabbed a to go container. My wife asked if she could put it in a bowl so it could be mixed. The girl said my manager said to put them in the Togo since the were closing soon. I was going to order a large and with everything I put on a salad I can tell you it barely fits in the large to go container after the mix it. So as she was tearing the lettuce we said we are going to leave as we don't want to bother you especially if your are closing early. The girl behind the counter just stared at us. Like she didn't know what to do. Reading other reviews I agree on the decline recently. It's a hit or miss on the service and quality of the salad. It also a new crew every time. I am very disappointed in this location's service. I love salata, but their poor service outweighs me wanting to go there anymore. Today I went and not a single person said hi or welcomed me into the restaurant. The workers always seem preoccupied making online orders, restocking the salad bar, etc. while I'm the only person standing in line waiting for someone to acknowledge me. When I ordered today, I asked for my salad to be made in a to-go container because I have a severe nut allergy and don't want any cross-contamination from the tongs that are used to mix each salad. And while a little pricey, you get a huge portion. They have a ton of options from your standards to your more unusual such as kale and several kinds of sprouts. Treated my mother to this very clean and amazing soup and salad establishment. Very very clean and the staffers were very accommodating and professional. Additionally, they have all sort of greens from spring mix to kale and everything in between. All the additional topping looked appealing from veggies to various toppings. As an added treat there is a selection of meats from Asian BBQ to grilled Salmon. Unfortunately, I was unable to taste any of it because of dental work so I tried the soup Broccoli cheese. They have various teas and lemonade available. The establishment is very neat and tidy. There is booth/stool style seating with outdoors seating as well. It is a clean up after yourself location. Really good! Some in our group were pretty let down when we told them we were trying out a new salad restaurant, but they changed their tune once they walked in and saw all the produce laid out. You can add turkey, chicken, or seafood to your salad, or you can get it in a wrap. Our carnivore friends scarfed down the delicious wraps, while the rest of us enjoyed salads and soups. I think this place will be perfect on a hot summer night, when you want something cool and light for dinner. That being said, none of us could finish our gigantic salads and we all left feeling full.
