I needed a freezer for my garage so I went to FB marketplace and found one. The seller said he'd deliver it. As it turned out, it was Jaime from Salem Appliance Service and Repair. As a used freezer, he gave me a 30 day guarantee. Well, after about 2 months, the freezer still worked but wasn't freezing things hard, like ice cream, and was collecting a lot of frost, more than normal. So I called Jaime and explained what was going on and needed a different freezer. He didn't have another one so he told me to look online and find one and he'd go pick it up for me at no charge, but I had to pay for the freezer. No problem, I knew the one I got from Jaime was over the guarantee time. After I received the new one, which the seller delivered so Jaime didn't have to go get it, I called Jaime to come and get the old one so I didn't have to pay someone to haul it away. Jaime came to get it and, can you believe it, he offered my money back. I only took 1/2 but damn, that's customer service. We purchased a home that included a high-end refrigerator. Very technologically advanced. Shortly after we moved in, it stopped working. We called Salem Appliance Repair and a technician came out, looked it over, unplugged it, waited a bit, and plugged it back in. Said to call them back if that did not solve the problem. That was ALL he did. Unplug it and plug it back in. They could have told me to try that over the phone. Charged me $75 for five minutes. Absolutely ridiculous. read more

Normally for great service, I would provide 4 stars. But I'll tell you why they got 5. So We have a 5 year old fridge, with an ice maker from whirlpool. Anyone with an icemaker knows all about the problems that can occur. I called them a few weeks ago on a Friday with water leaking out of my ice maker side [explain to me why water was pooling out of the ice side please!?!?]. The tech came out with a trainee, and knew immediately what was wrong. They took apart the icemaker, took a photo of the issue, quoted the problem, checked stock and pricing on the part, explained how long it would take to get it in stock, and provided a solution on the spot. I ordered it and paid for the service. In a week they called to schedule the installation when the part came in. On the day of installation they called me early and asked if they could be the first call of the day and thankfully I was here, so I said okay. Here is where the FIVE stars come in. So a new tech came back with the trainee to install the part. But all of a sudden I look at my kitchen and see both techs on my floor with the bottom plate of my fridge off with the wire harness of my fridge out as well and I get called in. The trainee asked if he could explain something to me. Then he said she wanted to show him that they get a lot of calls on this particular model of whirlpool model because of the ice maker suddenly not working. It was because the wire harness gets pinched in the corner of the door [the lower left corner of the freezer door] and when she pointed mine out-sure enough the entire casing of my wiring was split open. So she ended up taping up my entire harness. Then she said to me and the trainee, "I always check for this problem when we are called in for this model because it ends up saving the client extra time money and problems in the long run so fix it now before it becomes an issue, you know before it breaks". She didn't have to do that! She didn't charge me for it, it was VERY kind of her, took them an extra 5 minutes of their time and it will save me hundreds in a service call down the road. And THAT deserves a 5th star people. read more

After giving him my model number, he said that there is a class action lawsuit on these models for this exact issue. He never said to me that this isn't fixable and sent out his tech anyway. You've GOT to be kidding me! My dryer didn't seem to be drying in a timely manner and with a baby on its way I knew we needed a fully functioning dryer. I contacted Salem Appliance about 6:30p hoping I could get them to come out the following day. The man who answered the phone (I suspect the same guy as last time) asked me several questions about the dryer and then said, "Gee, I'd hate to come out there and charge you for something that's not necessary." What kind of business person says that?! It turns out that my dryer hose has just been too bent to allow air flow. I checked the Yelp reviews for Salem Appliance, then called about getting my dryer repaired/serviced because it had started making strained noises when in use. I trusted the reviews and called today at noon. Tina was able to send someone who was finishing up a job in the area (great!) and Jesus was at my doorstep not twenty minutes later. I explained the issue, he diagnosed and gave me an estimate which I agreed to. He replaced the belts and rollers on my dryer in an efficient manner and was completely finished and on his way by 12:55. FIFTY FIVE MINUTES from the time I first called until my dryer was fixed! I was very impressed! Amazing incompetence and lack of consideration. Booked them 9 days ago. Told them we have 6 appliances that need to be evaluated so we can proceed with our insurance claim. Took the day off work as a nurse. They called 2 days before appointment and changed the time. Okay. They flaked out day of appointment and said there are "too many appliances". I'll add I had emailed them all the brand and model numbers. They had taken down my phone number incorrectly. When they called my boyfriend, they asked if he was "my husband" as if that has anything to do with it. F*cking idiots and that's the nicest review I can give. read more

After almost a week without power we found out we had appliances that had been damaged in an ice storm. We called and were told they were a week out. Ok, no problem. Everyone else has the same problem, I get it. Then they change the time the day before, then they call 2 hours before and say our job is just too much for what we asked for and wanted to reschedule because they were going to have to pull people from other jobs. My wife took the day off because they said it would be a full day task and she is a COVID nurse. What is wrong with someone who waits a week before saying the job is beyond their capabilities. They dropped the ball on communicating an issue with ordering a part (2nd part). After being dragged, to ensure we had refrigeration by Christmas, we ended up throwing in the towel and scrambled to buy a new fridge, knowing the fridge we had was repairable. First off, the Salem Appliance repair folks were very pleasant, on time, and prepared with the right part, since I told them exactly what needed to be replaced. This part is worth five stars. It was made very clear to me that there would be a service/diagnostic fee of $85, plus a trip charge. This was something of a surprise because I'm used to the trip charge being included in the diagnostic charge, but my stove is not a common one, and I was pleased that they had the part I needed. I had told them exactly what was wrong, and what was needed for the repair, but, still, it seemed (barely) worth it to have them come out and replace the $60 part because it would take about a week to order it myself and have it delivered. Imagine my surprise when I paid the bill that, in addition to the $85 charge, ANOTHER $109 "remove and install" charge was added for a part that LITERALLY TOOK 5 MINUTES TO REPLACE! And this was "discounted" from $140. FOR 5 MINUTES WORK!!! For those keeping score, that's a total of $184 for something that required 5 minutes to do. I suppose that if a person has an unlimited supply of cash, this would be a great company to hire. For normal people like me ...... well, I'll order an extra oven igniter and keep it on hand so I can save the $184 next time. read more

I helped my mom find a few options online-- a number of them were booked a few weeks out, but Salem Appliance Repair came out the next day. Her washing machine had broken right at the worst time when family came to visit. She is always wary of having people come into her home, but they were quick, friendly, and super affordable and the machine works great. She was extremely satisfied which is a rarity for her! I started making phone calls as we were moving in because I didnt have the time or inclination to work on setting up washer and dryer and switching the power cord on dryer. I called 4 places and ONLY SALEM APPLIANCE called me back when they opened and I scheduled an appointment. By the way, only one other company called back and that was at 4:30 PM. A very nice young man showed up after the office called first to alert me to his timing. He got us set up and ready to do laundry. This company has my future business. They were responsive, showed me they valued me as a customer and called me to verify my serviceman's arrive time. I appreciated the fact I was able to secure an appointment the same day but I would not have minded having to wait a day. The reason being is they received my morning message and they followed up as soon as they opened for business. Excellent Customer Service..beginning to end. read more

A reliable repairman is hard to find. I figured I'd turn to Yelp when our refrigerator ice dispenser stopped working. My initial contact was very positive as I received a return call within a half hour and given some suggestions over the phone. The turnaround for an appointment was 3 days (over a weekend) which was fantastic. Unfortunately, when the repairman came out, he determined it to be something other than he figure and he was unable to fix it- instead stating that we would likely have to buy a new freezer door altogether. Lame! Why the 3 stars then, you ask? I am not dinging them for the inability to fix the problem- that sometimes can't be done. It I just unfortunate that the final amount for the 20 minute service call was $65. That is $65 that could have gone towards another fix (or new door/fridge). Instead we spent $65 and have nothing to show for it. I would have hoped that a service call wouldn't have been billed so high. Bummer. read more

We have a Samsung dryer and not everyone works on them. I called Salem Appliance Repair and the gentleman scheduled a tech to come out the next day. He asked for the model number so the tech could stock some parts on his truck and, hopefully, make the repairs that day. The appointment was scheduled for 3 but they called twice to say the tech could make it at 12:30 instead. Worked perfectly for me. "Jesus" arrived and diagnosed the problem, provided me with a reasonable estimate and repaired the issue within 25 minutes. He was professional and cleaned up after himself. Kelly deserves all these stars that he has been getting. He is conscientious, knowledgeable and inexpensive! He came out and fixed my dying fridge; THEN, he taught me how to care for a fridge! AND.........rather than charging me $60/hour to get the caked ice out of the freezer, he showed me how to do it, left his steamer with me and returned the next morning! If there were 10 stars I'd mark them all!!!! My dryer stops working on a Saturday evening and Sunday morning I started calling people to find a part for it. Found what I thought I was looking for in Portland, but really didn't want to drive all that way. So I started calling every service person in the Salem area. Kelly was the only one to answer his phone and offered to sell me that part in person, however he was very convincing that wasn't really what was wrong with my dryer. Low and behold he was correct and he helped me fix it over the phone (and even sold me the CORRECT part I needed). I will always call Salem Appliance Repair from now on for anything that I may need help with. I've never had a service person that I felt like I could trust and rely on before.....now I do. With 30 plus years experience also comes a friendly and helpful person. I am very grateful for his help and after finding out what he would have charged to come out and do it himself.....next time I'll do that and have the piece of mind that I'm not being ripped off. My ten year old Sears oven died and Chad made several trips to trouble shoot and fix it in May, but only charged one service visit. Then this fall when the warming drawer wouldn't work during Thanksgiving dinner, Chad came in December to fix it. Kelly is fantastic! We called him on Sunday (when of course no one is open Sunday) But Kelly is! Told him what was going on with our washer. He talked over a few things with us. We had already pulled it apart and it was looking like it might be the transmission then Kelly asked if we had a baby. We told him yes and he said ITS A BABY SOCK! check the pump and sure enough there was a baby sock stuck in the pump and that is what froze up the machine. Pulled the baby sock out and its working perfect. Thanks Kelly for the wonderful customer service and helping us trouble shoot our problem. Terrible service. Came and pulled out the dishwasher and said it needs a new $750 pump. Then left without putting the machine back in place. Took less than 10 minutes. Charged $75. That was it ... very rude demeanor. Asked if he would mind helping out by putting in a lightbulb over the stove ... he said he would have to charge another $75. Avoid at all costs ... just throw your $75 in the trash. at least your kitchen will be in one piece. One star is too many. read more

Avoid. I called to schedule a tech to look at a dryer that was not working. They gave me a date that was a week out. I told them to schedule the appointment but I will try getting someone else sooner. I asked them to have the tech call me before he goes out. The tech went out without calling and they charged me a $75 service call charge. Also, their tech quoted $241 to fix the blower motor. I had it fixed by United Repair Company for $167. They just wanted to be paid, that's all. Updated : Yes it is the Great Clips store and we know a little bit about customer service. There was no call by them. These guys are awesome! I called them to schedule a repair on my dishwasher but Kelly told me to check for debris in the chopper assembly first and guided me what to do over the phone. Sure enough, there was a piece of broken glass that prevented the motor from spinning! Overall I spent about 25 minutes to disassemble and assemble the parts and get it running again! Finding an HONEST appliance repair technician seems to be like finding hen's teeth...but, I finally located a super professional (factory trained) with 30 years experience. Used Salem Appliance Repair's web site: http://salem-appliance.com/ and was able to get a prompt appointment. Kelly showed up when requested...the $45 service call was $30 to $55 cheaper than most others...and he diagnosed the problem within a half-hour...all for $45! After obtaining the needed parts for our Maytag washer, he returned the next day (called 45 minutes early to ask if we wanted him to come a bit early...hello!!)...he did a thorough job of installing the new washer motor and control board (a pretty major job) in a bit over an hour...tested everything...cleaned up...all for $60 in labor. We now have a virturally new washing machine...and it runs smoother and quieter than ever! His main job is to provide you with a solution to your problem...he's not out to rip you off...would recommend Salem Appliance Repair unconditionally...GREAT JOB! read more

These guys are fantastic. Smart, honest, and thorough. Incredibly reasonably priced considering without them people would be throwing away workable appliances and paying ten times as much for new stuff designed to break down in a few years. They've come back repeatedly for a freezer issue and never charged extra as it was part of my original service call. They also checked out my washer free of charge and put some paint on a chipped stove top. Great for piece of mind, respectful, and courteous. I couldn't recommend these guys more. read more

$256 to have our gas dryer fixed. literally took up our entire day. after part runs and then the guy leaving and then afternoon finding out our dryer still didn't work, and seven hours later we were told the dryer vent was plugged. sure that probably resulted in our dryer dying in the first place, but shouldn't have been the first thing he checked??? too big of ordeal for a simple dryer repair. read more
