I've been fortunate to dine at some incredible restaurants over the years, and Salina has quickly become one of my favorites. The food is exceptional, but what really stands out is the hospitality. We celebrated my mom's birthday there, and Mr. Les Echeverria and his team made the entire evening feel special. One moment that really stayed with me was when they noticed our wine and cocktail glasses were beginning to warm up. Without us saying a word, they quietly replaced them with perfectly chilled glasses. It's that level of intentionality and attention to detail that you rarely experience. Dined here recently with my family including 2 kids. I always appreciate whenever restaurants have a kids menu. My kids chose the spaghetti and cheese pizza and enjoyed both. Good portion sizes for the kids as well. We tried: Spicy calamari Meatballs Vodka pizza Agnolotti Fries Soft serve for dessert We did enjoy the food (except the meatballs which were cold and didn't feel meaty enough) and the service was good. However, the kitchen could work on pacing and timing, as it took a while for our food to come out and then it all came out at the same time (appetizers, mains, and kids' meals). After hearing so much about Salina, I was excited to finally give it a try, but unfortunately, I left feeling like it's a bit overhyped. The service was polite, but when I asked for recommendations, our server basically listed every item on the menu, which wasn't very helpful and felt a little odd. We ordered the vodka pasta, and while it was good, it definitely didn't feel like a $30 dish. The carbonara was rich to the point of being heavy and greasy, and again, I didn't think it justified the price. My kids had the spaghetti with tomato sauce, but the sauce was noticeably sour, and neither of them wanted to finish it. The restaurant has a fun atmosphere with a lively bar scene, and I can definitely see why people enjoy coming for drinks and the overall vibe. Location 4 stars: In the Vineyards in Porter Ranch. Parking is free on the premises but always a hassle on weekends and nights. There are many nice restaurants and shops here but not enough parking. No Valet either. Be prepared for a walk! Venue 5 stars: New, nicely decorated upscale facility with indoor and outdoor seating and a full bar. They take reservations on Open Table which I would recommend as they get very busy. Service 5 stars: Very well trained, personable and professional. The manager Les made the rounds regularly. The Caesar salad was the star of the show for me! The lettuce wedges were fresh and slightly crunchy with cheese, crouton crumbs, and Caesar dressing! I appreciate that each lettuce wedge was individually prepped so that you can taste all the ingredients in every bite! The best I've had!! The vodka pasta was also good. My sister and I have been wanting to try Salina ever since it opened! We were able to make a same day reservation for dinner on a Saturday night. After checking in with the host, we waited a couple of minutes for our table to be ready. So you get two pieces the smaller piece was cooked nicely crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside the 2nd bigger pieces was very over fried from the outside and the breading was very hard. Salina opened on April 1. Our Friday date night had an Italian and Mediterranean affair. The food we ordered, did not disappoint. We sat at the bar to eat our meal given that it was a two hour wait. I encourage the team to continue to let this happen organically. The bar service was on point and folks we spoke to at the bar, were happy with their choices and we were too. If you're not careful, it can be an expensive meal with drinks, appetizers, main course, and dessert. Everything was soooooo good and I recommend that the kitchen have "runners" or create a team environment so "hands" are ready to deliver orders so pasta and other items don't come out lukewarm. Hubby and I did a walk in. There was a long wait for the table, but managed to get seats at the bar. Bartenders were friendly. Pros: -Caprese salad - so light and refreshing. Lovely dish. - Pork chop - requested for easy salt. By far one of the best pork chops we've had. So tender and it complemented with the salsa. Great quality! -Prime Rib - can easily be shared with 2 pple. Very tender. Perfectly cooked. -Mashed potato - so smooth and buttery. -Fries - very crispy and lightly salted. Cons: -Broccolini- I love my veggies, but I didn't enjoy this side dish one bit. It was overly salty!! Not a fan! My brother and I celebrated our birthdays at Salina with a party of six, and unfortunately it was one of the worst service experiences I've had at a restaurant. From the beginning, we felt rushed. Multiple order modifications were ignored, plates and items were removed before people had finished eating, and our waitress repeatedly interrupted conversations at the table. It became so disruptive that my brother eventually felt compelled to speak with the manager about how poor the service had been. Ironically, there was a new server shadowing her for training, which seemed like a questionable choice given the circumstances. The one bright spot was Stephan, another server who stepped in to help. He was attentive, patient, kind, and professional. He corrected several mistakes, checked on us appropriately, and genuinely improved what had otherwise been a very frustrating evening. Stephan provided the level of service we expected when choosing a restaurant like this. What makes this particularly disappointing is that the food was excellent. Every dish we ordered was delicious. Unfortunately, the service was so poor that it overshadowed what should have been a special birthday celebration. As we were leaving, we noticed other parties outside discussing their own negative experiences and mentioning that they had also spoken with management. That made it seem like our experience may not have been an isolated incident. I can't confidently recommend this restaurant based on our visit. Busy restaurants need patient, attentive servers who enhance the dining experience, not ones who rush guests, ignore requests, interrupt conversations, and make diners feel pressured to make decisions quickly. If you haven't been to Salina in Porter Ranch yet...Gooooo!!! This is hands down the newest hot spot in town, and I'm already planning my next visit maybe even tomorrow :). I stopped by tonight 4.2.26 (their second day open!) and was completely blown away. I was short on time, but even a quick visit turned into such a memorable experience. We were seated on the patio, which is nicely covered with heaters which is perfect for those chilly, windy evenings. I highly recommend bringing a jacket just in case. Inside, the restaurant is spacious with super comfortable seating and plenty of room for larger groups. I can already see this place becoming the go-to for birthdays, girls' nights, family dinners and fun celebrations. The bar is absolutely stunning!!! While seating is at the bar is a bit limited, it's beautifully designed with cozy booths along the side. Huge shot out to Christopher and Dominic the bartenders. They were incredible!!! Sooo friendly, great energy, and they made one of the best lemon drops I've ever had. They have a variety of menu items, veg and non veg. Pastas, pizza, branzino, hummus, meatballs, bruschetta, sirloin steak. Sooooo much. I wish I could have tried more...But let's talk about the food that we ordered tonight...I ordered the vodka pasta and the spaghetti and meatballs. The vodka pasta was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly, not too al dente, just right. It even had a slight crispiness from breadcrumbs, which I loved. If you're a burrata fan, I highly recommend adding it, it melts beautifully into the pasta and takes it to another level. However, a side of burrata is a little on the pricier side $12 for one. The spaghetti and meatballs were solid. But the real STAR of the night.... The affogato!!!! The soft serve was unbelievably creamy, honestly one of the best I've ever had. Paired with espresso, it was pure heaven! I am already craving it again. But let's talk..Service... Impeccable. I know they just opened, but the attention to detail was impressive. Our server, Gaby, was an absolute Gem she was so warm, personable, and attentive. Jazell and the rest of the staff were constantly checking in and keeping everything flowing seamlessly. In addition, the General Manager even came to our table to check in on us which was so nice. I also heard they plan to keep the bar open after hours once the restaurant closes, which is such a fun bonus. Overall, we had aaaahhhmazing experience from start to finish. I started with the arugula salad (not pictured) , 2nd course was the truffle pizza which had a nice truffle flavor and perfectly cooked mushrooms, 3rd course was the spicy vodka pasta. Absolute overpriced trash. For two 5-ounce glasses of mediocre wine, we paid $48. Then came the food. We both ordered hamburgers well done. They arrived nowhere close--bloody in the middle. The burgers themselves were incredibly salty and honestly inedible. For $60, we got what amounted to a very average cheeseburger with no lettuce, tomatoes, or onions--just an overly salty sauce and equally salty fries that we couldn't eat. We also ordered the bruschetta, but it didn't arrive until after our entrées. They eventually removed it from the bill because they forgot to bring it out in time. It consisted of only four small slices anyway. The most disappointing part is that this was for a special birthday celebration. It was so bad that we ended up taking the birthday girl somewhere else afterward just to salvage the evening. Our waitress was pleasant, but she never checked back to see how the food was. We had to flag down a young man who appeared to be the manager. He spent much of the evening pacing around the dining room, staring at tables, but didn't seem particularly interested when we explained how poor our experience had been. He apologized for the late bruschetta and personally brought it out, but there was no real concern shown. Instead of removing the inedible burgers from the bill, they simply remade them--and the replacements were just as bad. Maybe there are better items on the menu, but based on our experience, I have no desire to return. It's disappointing that such a prime location at The Vineyards is occupied by such a subpar restaurant. It deserves something much better. Save your money and go elsewhere. I am a foodie and don't mind spending good money on restaurants. The fried calamari were so over fried and dry and there's no way this was fresh calamari was definitely frozen. I have been to Salina island of the coast in Sicily and this food is a true insult to the amazing cuisine and culture of Salina. Next to the double doors to the kitchen and the cash register. Food took a long time to come out. The waitress had to reassure us 3 times that it'll be out soon (she was nice, I liked her). The pizza was not pre-cut, they give you a pair of scissors to cut it yourself. Interesting... never seen that before. It's about a medium domino's pizza size. Salina, is the recent highly anticipated Italian Mediterranean restaurant, to enter the amazing and still burgeoning dining destination, at the Porter Ranch Vineyards. It is the newest concept addition to the No. 8 group, spearheaded by the restarateur and hospitality team, of Cyrus Batchan and Sarah Lam. Their current portfolio is limited to only five eateries. In Vietnam (two) and the U.S. (three). Most notably, their celebrated one star Michelin restaurant, Camphor, on E 3rd, in Los Angeles. When Salina opened, it was disappointing that even before and after launch, there was no functional website. Therefore, no depiction of a menu or even hours of operation. After much digital digging, I located an internet menu on a third party website or two, that lacked photographic clarity. So was still not sure, what is on the menu. At the onset, the offerings at Salina seemed a "run of the mill" spread, with a small menu and a selection of items you could find anywhere else. And almost next door. I am always looking for something different. I chose the meat balls and the mashed potatoes (actually a puree). The former came out attractive, the latter (with a garlic confit) so very tasty. Yet, both items came to my table less than luke warm. After a few bites, that was a problem. The server was standing next to me. I requested more heating of both dishes. She refused and stated that she had to ask the manager. Really? When the manager got to me he also said he could not reheat, "what comes out from the kitchen, cannot go back". Really? I was persistent. Stating that in numerous restaurants, this has never been an issue. Not only to reheat, even recook or at that matter, substitute. My visit here was a revelation. A rebuke I have never experienced before. So what is the verdict? Nothing different. No uniqueness. A lack of creativity. No awesome dish. Not attractive. Unimpressive. When you walk in, the hosts open up the door for you and greeted with a warm smile. The staff is all super friendly and warm. They make sure that you are taken care of. The food is so delicious and you can taste the quality of the food. I have absolutely no complaints about the food. The food did take a little longer so they gave us an olive dish. The olives were so smokey and delicious. I would say they make delicious pizzas and pastas. The porkchop and branzino was also very delicious. This was, without a doubt, the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. We made a reservation for 7:00 PM, and because the USA was playing in the FIFA World Cup, I arrived 15 minutes early to make sure our table would be close to one of the TVs. I spoke with the hostess, explained that we were there specifically to watch the game, and she assured me it wouldn't be a problem. She told me the table I wanted was occupied by another party but that they would be leaving soon, so I happily waited outside. Forty-five minutes later, I came back only to find that someone else had been seated at the table I had been promised. Apparently, another group had simply walked in and taken it. Despite having a reservation and checking in early, I was completely overlooked while other guests who arrived after us were being seated first. By this point, it was almost 8:00 PM, and we still hadn't been seated. The staff then told us they could get us a table near a TV, but it would be another 10 minutes. After already waiting nearly an hour for a reservation we made in advance, that was unacceptable. We should have been enjoying dinner by then. To make matters worse, we sat at an available table ourselves because it was empty, only to be told to get up because it "wasn't our table." The entire situation was chaotic and completely disorganized. I asked to speak with the manager, hoping he would make things right. As a business owner myself, I understand that mistakes happen. What matters is how you handle them. Instead of trying to accommodate us or offering any solution, apology beyond words, or gesture of goodwill, the manager simply admitted they had messed up and left it at that. There was no urgency, no accountability, and no attempt to recover the experience. The entire process was incredibly unprofessional from start to finish. We ended up walking out and going to another nearby restaurant instead, where we were seated immediately. The service was outstanding, the food and drinks were excellent, and it reminded me what good hospitality is supposed to look like. Reservations should actually mean something. If you promise a table, honor it. If you make a mistake, take responsibility and do everything you can to fix it. Unfortunately, Salina did neither. I think during our service time, seasoning of food was a bit harsh...whoever was in the kitchen was heavy handed in the salt because our calamari and ravioli were very salty. My friend and I also shared a pizza and I was a bit taken back that I had to cut my open pizza. The server left scissors at our table without telling us its purpose and we had to "cut" our own pizza. So that was interesting. The Margherita pizza was the only thing we liked. We also finished dinner with dessert- lemon ice cream and Tiramasu. Flavors was there and a good finish to our salty food items. Would try and give them a go again with a group of people. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened. This place did not disappoint! Everything we ate was absolutely incredible. I have to give a shoutout to the manager. What a guy! So attentive and made my family feel so taken care of. My parents always have something to complain about when it comes to food but the only thing they complained about was running out of the delicious calamari. They loved everything and it made this experience so great. The prime rib was also another show stopper. It was extremely tender and the manager let us know that they start roasting it Friday night that's why it was melting in our mouths. Everything else we ate was so worth it. Salina's authenticity is a hit or miss as some pasta seems to be quite good yet other items seem to have its own flair. However it's so refreshing to be served by a server with amazing energy, true kindness and care. I think her name was Gaby. The vodka spicy shell is the best item on the menu. Wish it weren't "spicy" so more people would order it. Overall my fav restaurant and if you want to go to a nice place but don't want to drive, then this is by far a lot better than Lures, Gus or La Popular. It's on a diff level. Reservation was for 9pm on the patio - we were seated INDOORS promptly upon arrival (patio was full but no one even asked if we wanted to wait) - never received my drink and they were out of the beer hubby ordered so manager recommended another but then charged us for both. Food came out quickly but not coursed and in a strange order (appetizers served after main and salad came out considerably later). Asked for marinara instead of ranch with calamari and was charged $2 for a tiny cup of sauce. It was crazy loud in the restaurant. Food was good (not great but solid). Server was nice but not very attentive. All in all - I'd say our experience was fair. Options in Porter Ranch are pretty limited so we'll probably return - but mostly due to convenience factor. We came to celebrate our early Father's Day dinner at Salina on a weekday. Our first experience. As local Porter Ranch residents for nearly 40 years, we have dined at several fine dining restaurants in the San Fernando Valley. We were impressed with this one. The ambiance was inviting with a semi-separate "chic" bar and very inviting and warm dining section with booths. This worked well with our three-generation family group of eight - including two children and six adults. From the start, the general manager, Les Echeverria, along with smiling hostesses, greeted us at the check-in reception. We were seated at the section with booths. The food was great! We ordered Caesar Salad, which was so delicious with a not-so-heavy dressing - one-of-a-kind deal! A Shrimp Cocktail was average. But the Vodka Spaghetti with special sauce was good and different. The 35-day aged Rib-Eye steak was so tender and amazingly tasty. It was wonderfully marinated! Another great dish was the Fungi Pizza, which satisfied all of us! We also had a Bolognese which was also above average. A Spicy Calamari is a must for those who like calamari. It was tender (not common!), moist, a little spicy, and and so tasty! It was prepared in a different style - compared to common calamari preparations. We had a glass of Pinot Noir and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon - that paired well with our food (seafood and steak). I didn't see an extensive wine list - at least from the one I was presented. But, there was a Sommelier that helped us with the pairing wine. The service was very attentive. The wait staff continuously came to our table and checked up on us. Especially, Les, the general manager, checked on us almost every 10-15 minutes, while very busy running the restaurant. This man really took care of all guests at each table - at least in the section where we sat. A wonderful dining experience with good food, inviting ambiance, family friendliness, and great service. Such a bummer with so much potential. We live in PR and were excited to try out this new spot. We made a reservation for 4:45pm for the two of us outside. When we checked-in the hostess said they would be needing our table at 6:30, which I've never had a restaurant dictate my time there, but with over an hour to eat I said I thought that should be fine. There was only one other group on the patio so definitely thought we'd be good. We ordered two cocktails, Caesar salad, truffle mac n cheese and the carbonara. Drinks were good and the salad took a long time to come out so they brought some olive and cheese out while we waited which were good as well. The salad was okay but for the cost was definitely not worth it, the entrees were where they lost us. The carbonara online looked phenomenal, but when it arrived it was runny and brown colored with small store bought dried/boiled pasta...the sauce was oddly sweet with a gravy like texture. I couldn't eat it, it's been years since I've had to send something back anywhere, I felt bad but wanted something else. My husband had the truffle Mac and said it tasted weird as well, very gritty and lacking flavor. I switched to the pizza which I ended up having to get to go because they asked us at 5:45pm (not 6:30) if we were ready to go because they needed our table for the larger party coming. Honestly, so rude. I just couldn't believe it, I've never been pushed out of my reserved table and it was my husband's birthday to boot. Our server was nice and attentive, but it felt like she had dealt with a lot of issues because she almost seemed to expect something not going well. It pained us to pay at the end, because everything was just not that good (lure next door has a fantastic lobster ravioli they could take notes on) and when you spend THAT kind of money ($150 for two people) you expect flavor and an experience to remember. Sadly, we probably won't be back just better options around and better prices for better tasting food. SUMMARY at the bottom. Details ahead... I think the service is pretty good. The staff is acommodating, pleasant to deal with, and they seam genuine in asking for feedback. The outside is nice and open, and it has shades for sunsets. The chairs they use for the outside seam comfortable, but they are not, as the back falls too far, so you cant use the support until you just lean back. they either need a pillow or better chairs. The bench is better. The food is interesting... The Ceasar was actually good, so that gets a 4 Stars. The Calamari was nice and tender on the inside, but did have a lot of breading...a bit thick, but I did enjoy the spicey pepper finish to it, and with lemon...I give it a 3.5 The Eggplant was nicely done, but without cheese a bit dry. With cheese and sauce, it was better.Vodka Pasta was weird, as it had some funky flavor not used to in a clean pasta dish as expected from a Vodka pasta...oily porky flavor. So that was 2-3 score. Bolognese, Fungi Pizza, and Carbonara were a few other dishes we tried. The pizza was interesting...I got a pair of scissors with it, and at first I liked this idea. They were these nice polished and pro looking crafty scissors, and it does let you cut the size of slice. ...But their reasoning is presentation. They dont cut the pizza for you, as they don't want to ruin the look of the entire pizza. This is getting more common with restaurants that seem to need to make a mark or focus other than solid great food. Also, While I appreciate Parmesan cheese on my pizza as a finish, the amount of coverage this pizza has taken on is as if the pizza was caught in a blizzard of a snow storm for about 5 minutes. And honestly, I didn't get that crystal salt hit from the cheese. Maybe use like half that cheese, and just use more hard hitting Parmegiano Reggiano with some grit of a cheese. Besdies the topping, I did notice some level of creaminess un the cheese the mushrooms are on, and I also may have gotten a hint of truffle oil. Everything seamed a bit heavy, and you completely cant taste the dough....yes the cheese covers the crust even. Not a bad thing, but with the heavy main cheese, and strong fungi, forget the taste of the crust. (Yes I am still on the scissors)....The MAIN problem I found with the sicsors is the baking screen, the screen the pizza is served on....The scissors constantly get stuck on the screen and is not easy to cut. I dont want to learn and get the hang of cutting my pizza when its cooling off, and toppings are starting to slide as I have to lift it to cut it. So maybe before it comes out they can either use a different screen or a smooth surface, ir a cutting wheel instead. And the staff has to sort of be on top as children might want to play with them sitting on the table (we didnt have children with us, but can see this be a concern). WOW...How long can I go on about this!!! ForFungiScissors sake! SUMMARY if you dont like to read and in a hurry.... 1. I liked the staff. 2. we need better outdoor seats so we can lean back,( maybe solved with back pillows?). 3. Pizza can use a KISS (keep it simple) formula. (see details above) 4. The staff was friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable, making excellent recommendations that made our dining experience even better.
