I was there yesterday with a friend and excited to try a new place in Porter Ranch. Wow it was absolutely terrible and extremely overpriced. I am a foodie and don't mind spending good money on restaurants. The fried calamari were so over fried and dry and there's no way this was fresh calamari was definitely frozen. The spaghetti marinara was a complete joke. First off zero flavor and overcooked. I have been to Salina island of the coast in Sicily and this food is a true insult to the amazing cuisine and culture of Salina. Beside that the restaurant is very nice with a very nice bar area and the drinks were very good. Also, our waitress was very sweet. Definitely my last visit there !Even one star is to much ! Know before you go: this place is a bit pricey. This isn't all-you-can eat pasta at Olive Garden. And while it's not pretentious at all, it's upscale and it shows in the furnishing, décor, ambience and attention to detail. Higher-end wines on the list, all premium bottles behind bar and at least in our case, attentive service. And they definitely have a cook in the house--our food was great. Salina definitely isn't for everyone and eating there often could put a serious dent in your cashflow. But for a special night or even a quick drink and app, it totally works. Our appetizer combo could have fed three lumberjacks and the other portions I saw plated and whizzing by looked substantial. Tip: try to grab a seat or two-top at the bar. This was, without a doubt, the worst restaurant experience I've ever had. We made a reservation for 7:00 PM, and because the USA was playing in the FIFA World Cup, I arrived 15 minutes early to make sure our table would be close to one of the TVs. I spoke with the hostess, explained that we were there specifically to watch the game, and she assured me it wouldn't be a problem. She told me the table I wanted was occupied by another party but that they would be leaving soon, so I happily waited outside. Forty-five minutes later, I came back only to find that someone else had been seated at the table I had been promised. Apparently, another group had simply walked in and taken it. Despite having a reservation and checking in early, I was completely overlooked while other guests who arrived after us were being seated first. By this point, it was almost 8:00 PM, and we still hadn't been seated. The staff then told us they could get us a table near a TV, but it would be another 10 minutes. After already waiting nearly an hour for a reservation we made in advance, that was unacceptable. We should have been enjoying dinner by then. To make matters worse, we sat at an available table ourselves because it was empty, only to be told to get up because it "wasn't our table." The entire situation was chaotic and completely disorganized. I asked to speak with the manager, hoping he would make things right. As a business owner myself, I understand that mistakes happen. What matters is how you handle them. Instead of trying to accommodate us or offering any solution, apology beyond words, or gesture of goodwill, the manager simply admitted they had messed up and left it at that. There was no urgency, no accountability, and no attempt to recover the experience. The entire process was incredibly unprofessional from start to finish. We ended up walking out and going to another nearby restaurant instead, where we were seated immediately. The service was outstanding, the food and drinks were excellent, and it reminded me what good hospitality is supposed to look like. Reservations should actually mean something. If you promise a table, honor it. If you make a mistake, take responsibility and do everything you can to fix it. Unfortunately, Salina did neither. The nicest restaurant in Porter Ranch. Having grown up in Italy I know what good Italian food is. Salina's authenticity is a hit or miss as some pasta seems to be quite good yet other items seem to have its own flair. However it's so refreshing to be served by a server with amazing energy, true kindness and care. I think her name was Gaby. The vodka spicy shell is the best item on the menu. Wish it weren't "spicy" so more people would order it. Overall my fav restaurant and if you want to go to a nice place but don't want to drive, then this is by far a lot better than Lures, Gus or La Popular. It's on a diff level. Owner if you are reading this ; please go to Italy and bring a chef or really learn what authentic Italian is. Angelini osteria; couldn't ever get a table. Totally authentic. We came to celebrate our early Father's Day dinner at Salina on a weekday. Our first experience. As local Porter Ranch residents for nearly 40 years, we have dined at several fine dining restaurants in the San Fernando Valley. We were impressed with this one. The ambiance was inviting with a semi-separate "chic" bar and very inviting and warm dining section with booths. This worked well with our three-generation family group of eight - including two children and six adults. From the start, the general manager, Les Echeverria, along with smiling hostesses, greeted us at the check-in reception. We were seated at the section with booths. The food was great! We ordered Caesar Salad, which was so delicious with a not-so-heavy dressing - one-of-a-kind deal! A Shrimp Cocktail was average. But the Vodka Spaghetti with special sauce was good and different. The 35-day aged Rib-Eye steak was so tender and amazingly tasty. It was wonderfully marinated! Another great dish was the Fungi Pizza, which satisfied all of us! We also had a Bolognese which was also above average. A Spicy Calamari is a must for those who like calamari. It was tender (not common!), moist, a little spicy, and and so tasty! It was prepared in a different style - compared to common calamari preparations. We had a glass of Pinot Noir and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon - that paired well with our food (seafood and steak). I didn't see an extensive wine list - at least from the one I was presented. But, there was a Sommelier that helped us with the pairing wine. The service was very attentive. The wait staff continuously came to our table and checked up on us. Especially, Les, the general manager, checked on us almost every 10-15 minutes, while very busy running the restaurant. This man really took care of all guests at each table - at least in the section where we sat. A wonderful dining experience with good food, inviting ambiance, family friendliness, and great service. Such a bummer with so much potential. We live in PR and were excited to try out this new spot. We made a reservation for 4:45pm for the two of us outside. When we checked-in the hostess said they would be needing our table at 6:30, which I've never had a restaurant dictate my time there, but with over an hour to eat I said I thought that should be fine. There was only one other group on the patio so definitely thought we'd be good. We ordered two cocktails, Caesar salad, truffle mac n cheese and the carbonara. Drinks were good and the salad took a long time to come out so they brought some olive and cheese out while we waited which were good as well. The salad was okay but for the cost was definitely not worth it, the entrees were where they lost us. The carbonara online looked phenomenal, but when it arrived it was runny and brown colored with small store bought dried/boiled pasta...the sauce was oddly sweet with a gravy like texture. I couldn't eat it, it's been years since I've had to send something back anywhere, I felt bad but wanted something else. My husband had the truffle Mac and said it tasted weird as well, very gritty and lacking flavor. I switched to the pizza which I ended up having to get to go because they asked us at 5:45pm (not 6:30) if we were ready to go because they needed our table for the larger party coming. Honestly, so rude. I just couldn't believe it, I've never been pushed out of my reserved table and it was my husband's birthday to boot. Our server was nice and attentive, but it felt like she had dealt with a lot of issues because she almost seemed to expect something not going well. It pained us to pay at the end, because everything was just not that good (lure next door has a fantastic lobster ravioli they could take notes on) and when you spend THAT kind of money ($150 for two people) you expect flavor and an experience to remember. Sadly, we probably won't be back just better options around and better prices for better tasting food. Saw that this restaurant was relatively new and decided to try it for the first time and I have to say the food was definitely amazing! Scratched my itch for good Italian food! Ambiance was great with beautiful aesthetics. Prices are a bit higher than expected but portions are definitely big enough to share! Only thing I had a slight problem with was that everything came out at the same time both the appetizers and main course so our table was packed and it was a little overwhelming. But I'm sure that's something that'd get better with time. Would definitely love to come back again! Had a lovely birthday dinner. We were seated promptly. Great service and enjoyed all the food. Had pizza (margarita and vodka, both were delicious), the squash agnolotti, as well as the bruschetta and the focaccia with whipped ricotta for appetizers. Drinks were very well made. Last visit, we thought the food was off, and service was just not as crisp and professional (which it better be at these prices). Why? Well, its not the staff's fault. Lovely new restaurant with amazing food. We came to celebrate a friends birthday and loved the ambiance and aesthetic of the place. We ordered the scallops and focaccia with lemon ricotta as an appetizer, both great. We got pastas all around for the main course; bolognese, ravioli, and the aglio and olio. The aglio and olio was simple but so flavorful. I look forward to going back and trying the protein dishes. Mario, our server, was attentive, efficient, and sweet. We had a Sunday dinner reservation at 6:15pm, sat down at 6:18pm and 5 minutes later after receiving the menu (before ordering), approached by a hostess and told that we had to leave before 7:45pm because of another reservation. Reservation was for 9pm on the patio - we were seated INDOORS promptly upon arrival (patio was full but no one even asked if we wanted to wait) - never received my drink and they were out of the beer hubby ordered so manager recommended another but then charged us for both. Food came out quickly but not coursed and in a strange order (appetizers served after main and salad came out considerably later). Asked for marinara instead of ranch with calamari and was charged $2 for a tiny cup of sauce. It was crazy loud in the restaurant. Food was good (not great but solid). Server was nice but not very attentive. All in all - I'd say our experience was fair. Options in Porter Ranch are pretty limited so we'll probably return - but mostly due to convenience factor. Visited Salina yesterday, only a few days since their opening. As expected, there were a lot of things they definitely need to iron out. But I gave them the benefit of the doubt since they just opened. Our party of 8 got seated outside on the patio. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful. At 6 PM, there wasn't a single table open. It was very busy. Our table started off with drinks and appetizers. We didn't receive our drinks until 20 minutes after ordering. Appetizers came 45 mins after placing our order. We didn't mind since it was a beautiful night, but you can tell they weren't prepared for the restaurant chaos. I personally felt like they were understaffed. For appetizers, we got shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad, arugula salad, and the funghi and vodka pizzas to share. All appetizers were delicious. Oddly, they brought out the entrees all at different times. Unfortunately, my cousin got her pasta after everyone already completed their meal. I've never been to a restaurant where the entrees don't all come out all at once. I got the branzino which was good, but lacking salt. My mom ordered the burger medium and it came out completely raw. I could practically hear the patty ''mooing'. The truffle fries were delicious though. My cousin's vodka pasta was sweet even though the description says it's spicy. Wasn't spicy at all. The truffle mac and bolognese pasta were good. My heart broke for the waitress. I think every single table around us had a complaint or two so she was super overwhelmed. The manager had to make his rounds to help out. Overall, the food was good. Price is ridiculous though. They definitely need to iron out some things. SUMMARY at the bottom. Details ahead... I think the service is pretty good. The staff is acommodating, pleasant to deal with, and they seam genuine in asking for feedback. The outside is nice and open, and it has shades for sunsets. The chairs they use for the outside seam comfortable, but they are not, as the back falls too far, so you cant use the support until you just lean back. they either need a pillow or better chairs. The bench is better. The food is interesting... The Ceasar was actually good, so that gets a 4 Stars. The Calamari was nice and tender on the inside, but did have a lot of breading...a bit thick, but I did enjoy the spicey pepper finish to it, and with lemon...I give it a 3.5 The Eggplant was nicely done, but without cheese a bit dry. With cheese and sauce, it was better.Vodka Pasta was weird, as it had some funky flavor not used to in a clean pasta dish as expected from a Vodka pasta...oily porky flavor. So that was 2-3 score. Bolognese, Fungi Pizza, and Carbonara were a few other dishes we tried. The pizza was interesting...I got a pair of scissors with it, and at first I liked this idea. They were these nice polished and pro looking crafty scissors, and it does let you cut the size of slice. ...But their reasoning is presentation. They dont cut the pizza for you, as they don't want to ruin the look of the entire pizza. This is getting more common with restaurants that seem to need to make a mark or focus other than solid great food. Also, While I appreciate Parmesan cheese on my pizza as a finish, the amount of coverage this pizza has taken on is as if the pizza was caught in a blizzard of a snow storm for about 5 minutes. And honestly, I didn't get that crystal salt hit from the cheese. Maybe use like half that cheese, and just use more hard hitting Parmegiano Reggiano with some grit of a cheese. Besdies the topping, I did notice some level of creaminess un the cheese the mushrooms are on, and I also may have gotten a hint of truffle oil. Everything seamed a bit heavy, and you completely cant taste the dough....yes the cheese covers the crust even. Not a bad thing, but with the heavy main cheese, and strong fungi, forget the taste of the crust. (Yes I am still on the scissors)....The MAIN problem I found with the sicsors is the baking screen, the screen the pizza is served on....The scissors constantly get stuck on the screen and is not easy to cut. I dont want to learn and get the hang of cutting my pizza when its cooling off, and toppings are starting to slide as I have to lift it to cut it. So maybe before it comes out they can either use a different screen or a smooth surface, ir a cutting wheel instead. And the staff has to sort of be on top as children might want to play with them sitting on the table (we didnt have children with us, but can see this be a concern). WOW...How long can I go on about this!!! ForFungiScissors sake! SUMMARY if you dont like to read and in a hurry.... 1. I liked the staff. 2. we need better outdoor seats so we can lean back,( maybe solved with back pillows?). 3. Pizza can use a KISS (keep it simple) formula. (see details above) 4. Other dishes were "mid". 5. Calamari was surprisingly better than a 7 out of 10 rating.(too bready, but the calamari was tender. 6. Cesar salad was also good and enjoyable. read more

It's more of 3.5 stars. Came here for my birthday dinner and found out they had just opened the Wednesday before--so only about 5 days in. The place was packed, which says a lot for such a new spot. We sat out on the patio, which was a nice vibe. Service was friendly across the board--our waitress and the rest of the staff were all kind and welcoming. That said, you could definitely tell they were still working out the kinks. It seemed like everyone was fresh out of training because food was constantly being brought to the wrong tables. You could hear people around us saying, "Oh, we didn't order that," pretty often. For food, we shared the Caesar salad, vodka pasta, and mac & truffle pasta. The Caesar was good, just a bit overpriced at $25. The vodka pasta had good flavor but was a little too spicy for my taste. The standout was definitely the mac & truffle--it was delicious and the best dish we had. Overall, a solid start for a brand new restaurant. I'm not sure I'd be back anytime soon, but I'll give them about a month or so to iron things out--hopefully the service will be a bit smoother by then. read more

The scallop crudo, the meatballs, the pizza, the eggplant parm, the vodka pasta (best I've had since Horses), but the steak ... Greeted by a very friendly staff upon entry, this place is among the most welcoming. The setting is very chic. They have a Photo Booth by the bathrooms! The food selection is not the largest but I tell you, you do not need any more choices. Salads are fresh and light and the appetizers cater to every tastebud. Phenomenal across the board! Delicious food, great drinks, wonderful service! We visited for the first time on a Friday night and had such an amazing experience we were back with more family members on Sunday! The space itself is beautiful, a very elegant design but warm in execution. The manager/maybe owner was very present throughout our service, and he was very kind and attentive. We were served by Tiffany and Mario for our visits to Salina, and both provided kind, intentional, exceptional service! Our table was visited by a handful of their staff delivering drinks and plates, and each person led with a warm smile even for their brief interactions with us. It is very clear this team cares about their work and the impressions they leave on their guests, and we could not have been more pleased with the energy they brought and service they provided. We ordered a ton of food and would recommend it all! There's lots more on the menu we are excited to try in the future as well.
