I frequent here for brunch but today I decided to try their lunch out. We always order the corn bread, I swear this corn bread is the best I've ever had. Sweet, moist, and the jam on top is delicious! It's a must try. Spinach dip, this also delicious! One of the best ones I've had. I ordered their pulled bbq chicken sandwich with cream of corn, 10/10 the food is a good amount it's not too much and not too little it fills you up perfectly. That cream of corn is heaven! Being as it is Sunday it's super busy, the appetizers came at a good time but the food did take a bit. My mom ordered the chili and it came out cold; however they were quick to warm it up for her. One pulled chicken, which I loved because it was made with white meat, and the other was topped with brisket, which was just as delicious. We also tried the blueberry mint lemonade, and tasted great. Wanted to check out Gus for a while now and knew we had to start with that cast iron cornbread. It comes with a side of jalapeno jelly and honey butter. It's a litttle on the dry side but another some honey on there and all set. Honey butter never disappoints. The bowl of smokehouse chili is very filling and loaded which chunks of brisket. It was a hearty flavorful bowl and for $9.95 solid choice. We tried the southern honey chili crisp hot wings. Good sized wings but I like them a little more well done. The sauce was really good too but didn't really stick to the wings. Ordered the picnic platter which lets you choose a couple things to try. We went with brick chicken, Memphis BB back ribs, and brisket. Plate also comes with your choice of two sides. Ribs were tender and brisket was a little dry. There are a couple bbq sauce options on your table and spicy vinegar hot sauce to jazz up your plate. Carolina gold sauce has a nice mustardy taste to it so if you like mustard this is your jam! Food was good. Many options to choose from and their sides esp the creamed corn was good! The sausage links were also delicious. We had a reservation for 14 made on Father's Day. So I understand it's busy and exhausting but I feel like many things fell through. Our reservation was for 630 and did not get seated till past 7. We had a toddler in the group and it was pretty crucial to get an early time so the child wouldn't get too tired and wired. For whatever reason they sat us and that too at two separate tables which is not so bad. At least we were next to each other. The menu did not seem so clear so one in our party realized there was peanut in the sauce for the wings. It may be on the menu but there are restaurants who prioritize asking about allergies regardless when they take the order. So wish they had. To update from my last review I got to talk to the management and they were so professional and polite really changed the mood. Decided to celebrate my partner here during our movie marathon! Was extremely impressed during my first visit to Gus's BBQ in Porter Ranch! The food and service were excellent. Basically every employee we interacted with was attentive, friendly, and greeted my mom and I with a smile. Honestly, all of the sides were incredible! This is officially my new favorite Caesar salad in the Valley: so fresh with really unique flavors. While waiting by the host stand, manager Ashley was repeatedly calling out "table for Maria" while looking directly at my mom and I and motioning toward us. The brisket was, without exaggeration, the worst I've had -- dry, lacking flavor, and just not enjoyable. We also ordered the shrimp and grits, but ended up sending it back. The sauce had a very overpowering sausage flavor that completely took over the dish. It didn't taste like shrimp and grits at all, just heavily seasoned sausage, and it wasn't balanced. The gumbo was great tho! I do want to acknowledge that the manager Lisanne handled the situation really well and was kind and accommodating, which we appreciated. However, they also have a Southern Kitchen section on the menu and what is attractive here, is the catfish and chips. Yes, it's different. Furthermore, it is deep fried with a seasoned cornmeal batter. It comes out gorgeously crisp, crunchy and browned on the outside, maintaining moisture on the inside. UPDATE needed! Celebrated our friend, Daniel's bday here last week and had a fantastic time! We got there a bit earlier than everyone and it was an event night that we didn't know of, didn't have reservations but luckily they put together some tables in the heated patio for our party no problem! Due to the fundraising event they had, service was very slow but our wonderful server, Riley P., made it a night to remember! He had such great energy and really made the effort to get to know our little group. Not really sure what happened to Gus's the last time I was here everyone was in shock with how good the food was and how pleasant the experience was this time around was a complete 180.. Everything that we ordered was at best good not fantastic the creamed corn was great! The ribs are probably the only thing I'd get as an entree after trying everything else my party ordered. If you're planning on eating here, I strongly suggest making a reservation, as the wait times for walk-ins can be very long. It was loud and it took a good 30 minutes for us a party of three to get seated even when it looked like there were a couple of tables that were free. The service was good although after we were given our drinks, a little while later, a server came by and asked if I needed a refill on my lemonade and I said OK but when the server came back, we were given a refill on the lemonade AND the alcoholic drink that my other friend had. She didn't really ask for another drink because she had barely slipped into the drink she currently had plus the alcoholic drinks were quite expensive. You know it was $15 for another one and she really didn't want to spend for another drink. But what could we do? It was already there. So anyway, we ordered some brussels sprouts, mac & cheese, corn bread, and a variety of barbecue meats and sausages. The brussels sprouts are very good, the mac & cheese was good and so was the cornbread. Good but nothing to really rave about. The brisket and the ribs to me was very fatty, and I could only eat a little bit because I was getting dizzy because of the fat content. The sausages were OK, but we're a little salty for my taste.
