I had the brisket sandwich. Best one ever. The service was great. Everyone was really friendly and attentive. Environment was really laid back and chill. Would definitely recommend.

As always, the Salinas city barbecue doesn't disappoint. We got their $95 July 4 package and it included two meats and three sides. There was some confusion about whether or not you got a loaf of bread as a side or just as part of the package. And they said they wouldn't give it to us even though the menu and the online ordering both said it included three sides AND garlic bread. That aside the pulled pork was delicious. We got 2 pounds. We split everything that we got with our son and daughter-in-law. My husband and I have been eating it now for three days and have had it as pulled pork sliders with pickles and slaw on it and it is absolutely delicious. The ribs were spot on crispy outside and soft, tender meat on the inside with their spicy barbecue sauce added -perfect. The brisket was very flavorful and deeply smoked. The pieces fell apart as I served them and didn't need anything on them. They could just be eaten alone and were perfect. The three chickens that were half chickens that were included in the Fourth of July package deal was perfectly grilled to perfection and dipped in their barbecue sauce. the juicy meat of the chicken was perfect.

With the package, we got the 2 pounds of pulled pork and the 3half chickens, we got the coleslaw, which is super bland, but a nice crunch to add to a pulled pork sandwich, potato salad, which is very very good and the beans spicy and...

savory. Separately we bought 2 pounds of brisket the rack of ribs and the macaroni and cheese. We had to pay for the bread and got six pretty bland pieces of what was supposed to be garlic bread, but didn't taste garlicky at all for $12. I wish they would've just thrown in the loaf of garlic bread as a comp because we're such great customers, but you can't beat their barbecue I'm not complaining. I'm just sharing my experience. $95 for the Fourth of July package and then another $150 for the 2 pounds of brisket the rack of ribs, the bread and the pint of macaroni and cheese. A little pricey, but really good. $250 total. It's fed five people for several days now. We order from them on most holidays and I've gotten their smoked turkeys for the last three or four Thanksgiving's. It is off the charts amazing and it's our second turkey that we add to our baked turkey to have two different kinds, which is nice. Highly recommend this restaurant for great service, hard-working folks and a wonderful menu. The desserts are off the charts too

Salinas City BBQ really hit the spot. The Berry Bleu Salad with added tri-tip was fresh, colorful, and loaded with flavor -- crisp greens, green apples, blackberries, candied pecans, bleu cheese, and smoky tri-tip all worked perfectly together. It felt like a salad, but still had that real BBQ heartiness. The Smoked Chicken on the side was excellent too -- tender, smoky, juicy, and coated in a rich BBQ sauce that made every bite better. The grilled bread was a great touch and perfect for soaking up the extra sauce. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great portions, bold flavor, and a casual BBQ feel that makes you want to come back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A strong 4-star experience and definitely worth ordering again.

Amazing BBQ place in Salinas! Their barbecue sauce was so good. They have both non-spicy and spicy options. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was a lot of seatings, so a lot of people dine in, but you can do takeout as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I really enjoyed the combo. I had with three meats and two sides. I got the breakfast tacos, with tri tip and brisket. They came with eggs and you can pay extra for cheese and pickled jalapeños. They are decently large! Good price. My friend got the tri tip meal and it came with two sides and corn bread or garlic bread! Which is nice bc a lot of bbq places only give you white bread. Great, friendly service!

It was our first time here and we enjoyed it. The only thing was my baked potato, all I want is butter but they gave it to me loaded. That's ok. The brisket was amazing. The ribs are kinda dry and not fall off the bone the easy I like. But all in all , it was good.

$38.50 and excellent. Ribs: on the sweet side Tri-tip: damn near perfect. Brisket: salty crust but great. Potato salad: liked it Beans: ton of smoked paprika Garlic bread: solid enough 3 meats combo was too much for one normal dude. 4 stars because it's all well made. No 5 stars because my preferences weren't a perfect match. Still, I'm very happy they exist and I can't think of a single reason not to recommend them. I'll come back for sure.

9/10 Definitely an amazing meal! I enjoyed both the Large Tri-Tip Sandwich and the Tri-Tip by itself. Starting with the sandwich, the soft bread and the tri tip were perfect together. It's simple, minimal, and honestly doesn't need anything extra to taste great. The side of jalapeños and pickles added a nice kick without overpowering it. The Tri-Tip on its own was also solid, seasoned perfectly and cooked just right. The only downside for me was that some of the cuts came out a bit cold, which was disappointing since everything else was on point. Service was great, everyone was friendly, and the environment had a nice vibe with the Christmas decorations. Music wasn't my favorite, but not a big deal, I was there for the food and atmosphere anyway.

Tri tip and pulled pork are the way to go !! Tri tip was tender and flavorful, didnt even need the bbq sauce. Ribs were tender and great flavor. White cheddar mac n cheese was creamy and delicious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is quite nice and a homey feel while outside has seating for big parties.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was great and would definetely come back again !

Been here a couple times now and have to say this is a great BBQ joint! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The music, the mismatched tables and chairs, handkerchief curtains, great food and a Dr Pepper transported me back to my time in Texas![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Loved the ribs and pulled pork, and the beans are amazing! The coleslaw was a little on the bland/sweet side for my taste, but throwing the pickled veggies in there made it great! Will definitely keep coming back when I'm in town!

For a 30$ meal it's too expensive for a tourist. And the meal was too simple. Even the meat was half cooked. So if you are not used to eat half cooked meat better ready for bloody meat when served. Also I notice the taste is a bit old.

This spot was well recommended in the area so I decided to give it a try. First impressions: it looked like there should be a window outside the restaurant taking orders as there is dining outside. But in fact inside is where you order and can find more seating. Upon walking in service was nice. I ordered brisket, tri tip, Mac and cheese, coleslaw and cornbread. Besides the brisket with their spicy bbq sauce nothing else stood out. It was bleh/dry. I am confused as to whether it was an off day given all their awards....

Our group of four like this barbecue spot. We all ordered different items. I ordered the two combo plate with brisket and ribs, with beans and coleslaw. The ribs were my favorite. They had tons of flavor and the seasoning was on point. The coleslaw was very simple, but tasty. The brisket really had great flavor, but because of the cut I received it was extremely fatty and I could not eat most of it. If you like spicy, the beans are for you. They had good flavor, but they were way too spicy for me. My BF actually had the Lil plate, which included cornbread, one meat, and one side for $10. What a deal. He absolutely loved it. Others in our group got the hot links, sausage and nachos. The staff was very helpful and courteous.

We came here after the recent Spartan race so that our athletes could pack in some protein. This barbecue was sooooooo good. The brisket and ribs were so flavorful. The sides also were excellent. The Mac was cheesy and seasoned well, the coleslaw was fresh, crispy and not too mayonnaise-y and the beans tasted fresh (these did not taste like canned beans!). Oh and the cornbread was really good as well - comes out in nice big, toasted slices. Nothing we ate tasted overly salted or seasoned which I really appreciated. We will be back. Well worth a stop. read more

We dine here every time we pass through Salinas! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Amazing staff, great atmosphere...and best brisket, triip and burndt ends in Monterey county....baked potatoes, coleslaw slaw, corn bread....yum.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I always have to order something to go after my meal. Absolutely fabulous bbq and the smoky spicy bbq sauce is incredible. I had the Santa Maria salad with tri tip- a half pound of awesome flavor. My husband had ribs. Cornbread was yummy. Everything was so good we reordered to take some home. So glad for Yelp reviews that took us here. Service was fast and friendly. read more

Been here once before for take out and it was good, decided to eat inside this time and the ambiance was very cool! I got the pulled pork meal with coleslaw and mac and cheese and the cornbread with butter and honey. Everything was amazing! The service was wonderful as well. Randomly found this place to eat while driving back home to San Jose on the 101! Got the 2 meat combo with some extra sides to share with my boyfriend and myself! We were satisfied with our meal and it costed around $30! The BBQ sauce is also delicious! It has a nice tang, sweetness and some spice! MEAT: - Brisket (4.5/5): This was the main star! The brisket was very tender and easy to break apart! Loved how this tasted and highly recommend getting this. - Tri Tip (4/5): This was also very good but I loved the brisket a lot more. The meat was also soft but had a chew as well. SIDES: - Potato Salad (4/5): This was good! I liked the flavor but I think it needed more salt & pepper for taste. I also thought there was too much celery but I didn't mind it. - Coleslaw (5/5): My boyfriend LOVED this. He was eating it up! - Beans (3.5/5): This was alright but could have been better. - Garlic Bread (3/5): While the bread was toasted nicely, I was disappointed by the lack of garlic. I wouldn't call this garlic bread. The bread did taste good with the BBQ sauce tho. read more

Was in Salinas for a work trip and wanted to have something a little different so looked on my yelp and found this place. Four stars right off the bat. Really good food, nice woman working in there, helped me pick out my meal and local craft beer. They were out pulled pork so I had the tri-tip which was fantastic. Great service, great meat, the coleslaw was fantastic on the garlic bread topped it all off. It looks like they make their own barbecue sauce, which I had the regular and it was great. I tried the spicy. It was a little too much for me but very flavorful. Solid place. It was a Tuesday night so there wasn't a lot of people in there, but I'm sure on Friday and Saturday The place is rockin. They do have Pepsi products which if you read my reviews is not what I drink but just FYI. read more

My fiancée and I stopped here on our way to Cambria. Ended up being a great choice, we got the pork ribs with side of beans and Mac and cheese. Ribs were very tender and went really well with their house made bbq sauce. Both the spicy and regular sauces were hits but we both liked the spicy a bit more. The Mac and cheese was creamy and smooth, clearly house made as well which we really appreciate since we run into a lot of premade cafeteria Mac and cheese at similar places. Beans were also filling, couldn't finish it and ended up having as leftovers. We ran into someone here who had just moved from Texas 3 months ago and he also mentioned this joint was the closest thing to feeling like homemade food for him, which was very encouraging. I got the brisket and pulled pork with a side of Mac and cheese and potato salad. Both the meats were tender and very flavorful. The serving size was generous, enough that I ate until I was full and had some left over. Service was really helpful and fast. Ordered breakfast bbq and wow! Super delicious. I ordered brisket breakfast taco and breakfast pulled pork sandwich. They were both fantastic. The meats were incredibly well cooked and seasoned and the fried egg was well cooked with runny yolk. I would like to try the breakfast brisket sandwich in the future. We had the pleasure of working with Salinas City BBQ for our Grand Opening event in Salinas, and they absolutely delivered! The food was excellent--our guests couldn't get enough. We had over 200 attendees, and everything was such a hit that we actually ran out of food! Their team handled it like pros and quickly brought more so everyone was taken care of. Excellent eats for Central Coast. We had the brisket, ribs, and pulled pork with Cole slaw and beans as sides. Everything was excellent, and service was flawless. This is my go to when I'm catching the Amtrak to LA. I grab some lunch and dinner. When I start eating I will have at least a dozen passengers ask where I got that. They say the whole car fills up with that tantalizing aroma! The brisket is so tender and so flavorful!!! read more

It's a cute little house out of the way from the freeway, but the food is consistently great. You can't go wrong with any of the selections. The employees were great and I appreciate that they paid attention to their customers and made sure their experience went above and beyond. The tri tip sandwich was very good. The flavor was nice and it wasn't dry at all. A very underrated part of this sandwich is the garlic bread. If you enjoy some heat to your sandwich, try the spicy bbq sauce. If I had to critique something, it would be the beans. They tasted more like chili than bbq beans. Lastly, the bread pudding and ice cream was a perfect dessert to end the meal. read more

When I visit new cities, it's a challenge to find safe places for my daughter with food allergies to eat at. We ordered the brisket, chicken and tri-tip which was gluten, dairy, egg, soy peanut, sesame free. My whole family loved the food. I thought my brisket was good, but man this place knows how to do brisket. Perfect smoke ring, juicy from the first bite to the last. We saved some for the next day and it was still better than other bbq places I've had before My daughter unfortunately could not have any of the side dishes, but she loved all the smoked meat options that was safe for her. This place made my bookmark list. read more

In town for work and my employees tipped em to this place. You can smell the smoke from a few blocks away which is inviting. The decor is pretty straight forward bbq with squeeze tubes of bbq sauce on the table. Ordered the combo meal with brisket and pulled pork as well as potato salad and Mac & cheese. The meats were pretty decent. The sauces went well with the meats. The sides were not the strong portion of the meal. The potato salad was serviceable enough, could have been better seasoned. The Mac and cheese was the let down for me. Honestly the best BBQ I've ever had in my life! Me and my BF were stopping by on the way back from Lightning in a Bottle in Bradley. This BBQ spot was way the heck out of no where, but on our way home to SF we decided to stop by for dinner. The BBQ chicken and the pulled pork 2 meat combo ($20.95) which comes with 2 sides which we selected the baked beans and potatoes salad. The we added an additional side of Cole slaw ($2). The BBQ chicken was delicious and so tender! Not a bit dry at ALL! Same with the pulled pork! So delicious. You really don't need to add additional sauces to the meats, but it's fun and extra tasty when you add more kick to it. They also have a spicy BBQ sauce which has a really nice kick to it and great flavor. The beans, potato salad (our fave out of all the side dishes), and the Cole slaw was so great! Usually I'm not a fan of coke slaw, but the Cole slaw here is delicious- not overly mayo'd up and refreshing from the smoky BBQ taste. Their beer selection is on point! I got a delicious double IPA ($7) and my BF got an amazing pale ale called the Mai Thai ($7). They have many other wonderful selections ass well. You avoid def go try it! Was one of the first people in the door when they opened up for lunch at 1130.. Placed an order for two sandwiches (1 tri-tip, 1 Chicken) to go and I waited 45 minutes for the order to come out. In the mean time, two people came in on their lonesome and sat at their own tables and were able to chat it up with the servers, order their meals and get their food well before i even received mine, despite the fact i had just as simple of a meal and i ordered mine 10+ minutes before they did.. Not too sure how many people are given over an hour for their lunch breaks, but at no point did i anticipate the process to take up that entire time leaving me not only late for work but rushing to eat while driving back, as well as leaving someone hanging with their lunch that i promised within a reasonably expected time frame... The food here is amazing, however i would not recommend if you are on any sort of a time frame as it may take damn-near an hour to get your food out to ya. This place is awesome. Although I was taken here on my first trip I did get a little lost trying to find it on my own, but I have to say Well worth it. I now have had the pulled pork, fantastic, the tri-tip, just as good, and on the heather side chicken salad,yummy. They make excellent sauces. The molasses vinegar for the pork just turns it into something completely different. the mild bbq sauce is great but if you like a little heat go with the hot one.Please be advised I am a little under enfisising hot it definitely has a kick but wow its good. Ill be back on my next trip south. Keep It Up. Hard to find bbq this good on the west coast. read more

Salinas City BBQ is a hidden gem for barbecue lovers in Salinas CA. The ribs were perfectly tender and flavorful, with just the right amount of smokiness. As for the brisket, it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious, with a rich and savory flavor that left me craving more. The atmosphere at Salinas City BBQ is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a delicious meal after a busy day The staff is friendly and attentive. Revisited the Salinas City BBQ and things have definitely improved. The service was extremely attentive this time around. Highlights of the meal included the cornbread, which was very moist and crumbly. The pulled pork and pork belly burnt ends were also very good. The brisket was a little fatty, but still good. Brussel sprouts were a favorite side as well. The only side dish I didn't really touch was the mac and cheese, which seemed a little on the overdone side. My biggest regret was not getting more ribs, which were very meaty. Nice, dimly lighted ambience. read more

BBQ does not get better !!! I happen to be a pit master myself and quite good in BBQ'ing as well as smoking. I have even been to some BBQ places in Texas but this place took my breath away. I ordered the 3 meat combo with brisket, pulled pork and the ribs and my girlfriend their tri-tip. My only thing is that my plate would had looked and tasted better with some fries. They have baked potato but no fries. Aside from that everything deserved SOLID five stars. Their berry cobbler ... OMG !!! You HAVE to try this place !!! Solid FIVE STARS !!! read more

It was my first time at Salinas City BBQ. The service was amazing and the food, equally as memorable. Aaron, was super professional, friendly, and informative on the menu. He and the staff made our experience one to remember and we will definitely be back. We traveled from over 3 hours away with a party 7 and Aaron and the staff made us feel like we were home. 5/5 Had an amazing meal at Salinas City BBQ! The tri-tip and brisket were absolutely top-notch -- tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. You can tell they put real care into their smoking process. The seasoning was spot on, and the meat had that perfect smoky bark on the outside. Great portions, friendly service, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe. Service was a 10/10 the lady was really nice and as people were leaving the owner I suppose was cleaning up after everyone. The food is 9.5/10 but the mac n cheese wow it is fantastic would 1000% come here again just for the mac n cheese, everything else is an added bonus. But still very delicious. The restaurant is very nice the vibe is amazing as well. First time going there and for sure will be going there again!! read more

This place has amazing BBQ. I love their ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and their chicken. I also like their sides, especially their baked potatoes. The customer service is very good as well. The only reason they get 4 stars instead of 5 is because they run out of food usually a few hours before their stated closing time, and so they close early. This means that need to get here before 7pm on most days. read more

I used to love to eat here until we saw the cook sneezing and coughing at the bar and then proceed to the kitchen and put on a dirty apron and NOT WASH HIS HANDS! I cannot ever go back after witnessing such an atrocity. This was at the time Marisco's was shut down in San Jose for making people sick and die. Hygiene, people!! It's food we are eating and serving our children for God's sake. read more

its tucked away so you don't expect much, but WOW. WOW WOW WOW. You walk in and it smells like heaven. the food comes out quickly and hot. generous portions and amazing service. people were checking on us consistently and the manager was out and about interacting with customers. they make their own bbq sauces and sell them, I can't recommend the brisket enough. read more

Great food! I can't believe I did not notice this place before. I happened to pass by it today during lunch and decided to give it a try. Everyone in Salinas should come here for taste. Minus one star because the service was kind of slow and the server did not really acknowledge me. I will definitely be back for the food and to try out other items on the menu. read more

This past weekend, I visited Salinas City BBQ. The associate that helped my family and l, Aaron, was an accommodating and hospitable host, and was very gracious in providing us clear directions to the restaurant over the phone. The food was great and high quality, and I would definitely return to this establishment. One of the best barbecues I've ever had! read more

We came here because I heard this was the best BBQ place in Salinas. We were not disappointed. The ribs were smaller than I expected but they were so tender and the sauce was just right. I had potato salad and coleslaw for sides. They were perfectly done also. It's located in the middle of nowhere but if we have a chance we will definitely come back. read more
