AMAZING! Consistently great cut and color, consistently great service! Long reveiw so bear with me! I have longer hair of mixed textures. Part curly, part straight, part frizz. I grew up in the 80s so having a crazy mane wasnt an issue, bigger WAS better and I was completely in style! Then came the era of straight hair and I've been tortured ever since. Prior to finding Gina at Salon Astante, I went from college to my 30s with a Newbury Street salon & stylist. I always had great cut and color but the $140 plus dollar price tag, the long wait and the parking garage bill (plus the cost of a sitter!) finally drove me to suburban salons. Then the mayhem started! Suburban stylist ='d bad mushroom cut. If you are old enough, think Gilda Radnor. Younger? Marge Simpson's sisters. Literally I spent 7 years after leaving Newbury Street trying to find someone that understood my texture. Stylists would cut my hair admonishing me to blow it dry for 30 minutes, use a straightener, use specific products - only to leave me cursing myself and discouraged. I couldnt replicate the straight look but worse, couldnt find a styist that would, instead, work within the limitations of my hair and abilities to create a look I could be successful with. My hair got shorter and bushier, finally culminating with a "curly girl" salon cut (100% product based. i.e. leave it soaking wet with TONS of product in).I looked like a reality tv midwest mom with a Walmart flier haircut. Then Gina saved me. Saved my hair. Likely saved my marriage. She looked at my hair, immediately recognized the problem texture and assisted me with 2 plus years of growing it out. Sometimes doing a basic minor trim, other times reshaping the entire mess - always continuing to check in with color, with ease of styling, offering product samples and trying different techniques as needed. She learned my hair, knowing the right ratio of product that I was capable of using vs what would intimidate me, and she devised ways to keep it stylish while handing the difficult growing out process. She has kept my color consistent, in the summer adding additional low and highlights, and in the winter changing the tone but always with it looking very natural and "true" to it's original color. Additionally she listens, remembers your specific situations and always asks provoking questions regarding hair and hair maintenance to really see if what she is doing works for you. In the 3 years I've known her, she has on more then 1 occasion texted after a particularly long process (multiple colors, straighteners etc) to check in to see if it was holding up to my expectations. This reveiw is so long because I literally cannot say enough about Gina's talent, professionalism and knowlege. It's clear that she has an indepth knowledge of her craft and she has been exceptionally gracious and patient in educating me as to what works best for me. I used to get up from the salon chair refusing to look in the mirror. Gina does my hair and I automatically schedule a baby sitter to head out. 5 stars aren't enough! read more

I've been to this salon once before just for a simple cut, style, and blow dry, and Ana treated me and my hair wonderfully. I was incredibly nervous for my haircut at Astante today, because I planned to take a drastic amount off. So first off, I scheduled my appointment and my moms appointment the night before, and they fit us in perfectly back to back! When we got there, they took my mom right away, and I waited maybe less than 10 minutes before they started on me. Sarah was both of our stylists, working with each of us doing different things. My mom did her roots, which turned out perfectly, no horror stories there. Before my cut, my hair was maybe around my lower back. It's now above my shoulders and I am absolutely in love. We did a deep conditioning treatment that made my hair so smooth and healthier than it was. They were super informative about their products too, which I really loved. Of course you always want to know what you're putting in your body. Sarah was so great with giving me exactly what I wanted. Especially for such a big change, I was nervous because many stylists like to do their own thing/what they believe would look better, etc. but Sarah was amazing. I couldn't stop smiling the whole time! These guys really work some magic, and I could tell they were pretty busy but still worked people in without any hassle. They're way too kind and really you're only ever in good hands here. Their prices aren't absurd for what they do for you either. It pains me to write a bad review but i have to share my experience. Let me start off by saying i really liked the salon it was clean and people are very friendly. I went in on saturday cause i purchased a groupon for a partial foil cut and blowday. My stylist was krista who was very nice and perky. My highlights were horrible they where very chunky and stripy and i have a couple of bleed marks on the side. I asked her for an angled bob and what i received was a crooked mess. My hair is way to short and one side is longer then the other. I was scared and uncomfortable the whole time cause i can tell she didnt know what she was doing. She mentioned that she just started working there so i'm guessing she hasn't been doing hair for long. She had a weird technique where she would cut some hair them blowdry and repeated that over and over. I couldn't get out of there quick enough. I need to get my hair fixed but i cant even cut anymore off cause its so short. I'm gonna have to deal with this for several weeks. There is nothing worse for a woman then having horrible hair. read more

I drove by the place on Friday and made my first appt for the next day. I'm from NYC and have been going somewhere else in waltham for the last couple years, each time mildly satisfied. i have been looking for somewhere new to go and i have found it! I got partial highlights from Gina, and couldn't be happier with my experience as a whole! They were all very nice and welcoming, and Gina REALLY knew what she was doing. I loved how much high end salon experience she's had and how knowledgeable she was about my hair. It turned out exactly how I wanted, and she even gave me a glaze on the house! She is the only person who knows how to work my 4 cowlicks in the front with a round brush, which is HUGE. It was a definite NYC experience with Waltham prices. I'll even go to them for my manicures now. I appreciate the high end knowledge and I love how it was opened by 2 stylists who still work with clients. I was more than satisfied with the services that I received. The salon was easy to find, and the parking was free. The atmosphere was very pleasant, the salon was neat and clean, with a nice decor. Pam did a gel manicure, and a pedicure, and helped me pick out a color that would look good with my dress for a special occasion. I came in to the salon with my own idea about a color, but Pam talked me out of it. She was right! She suggested a color that looked great with my skin tones, and looked really good with my dress. Pam performed a small miracle on my feet! I didn't even recognize my own feet when she was finished. The two services were a little more expensive than what I had paid in the past at another salon, but it was worth it. Pam did a much better job on my nails than the previous salon, which I felt had always done a good job. I would definitely go back to Salon Astante, and would recommend it to others. read more

I purchased a Groupon for a mani/pedi at Salon Astante. My appointment was with Pam who didn't even introduce herself to me and her demeanor was very cold and uninviting. She complained about the Salon music, co-workers, and how much she hated doing Groupons and that she will never okay the Salon promoting one again. I found it very unprofessional that she kept talking about the another Nail Technician and how she hated the way she did nails, but from the looks of she was doing a better job and was very sweet. Overall the salon was very warm and inviting. The other co-workers all seemed friendly and nice. The receptionist was extremely friendly and gave me a nice Gift Bag on my way out. Salon Astante has a lot of potential,but I would not return to listen to my Nail Technician complain and talk about herself! read more

I have been coloring my hair for years... that elusive perfect blonde color. If you're not going into Boston (or Manhattan), this is a very hard thing to accomplish. Katie is a super pro and I am so pleased with my color and my cut. She has adjusted my color very slightly based on my feedback from each visit, and the color keeps getting better and better. I had very long hair and decided to make a big change and cut 10+ inches off. The flippy cut is adorable and looks great whether I blow it out or I don't. And the color and cut last - it's not until right before my next appointment do I say "I really need this touched up!!!" Katie is also so positive, so accommodating and very attuned to requests for subtle change-ups. Can't recommend her highly enough. read more

I am giving this salon five stars because my favorite hair stylist has moved from the Salon Red in Boston ll to this new salon in Waltham. My stylist is Diana, and she has been doing my hair for over 3 years!!! I know most people switch their hair stylists to try new things and what not but I really likeDiana and she does a great job. She is super nice stylist but she takes her work seriously!!! I love my hair and I will keep going to her for cuts and foils. Be specific and clear about what you want and you will be happy. I have once ventured to another salon on Newbury street, where I paid $100 plus tip for a cut+blow dry and got pretty much zero change in my hair. One half of the Salon Astante team is Gina Galante from whom I have been getting my hair cut (off & on) since 1997. I followed her from Prime Cuts in Lexington to Roberts Salon in Belmont and then lost track of her when she went to work in a spa in another community. No one was ever able to cut my hair as well as she does, so after a hiatus of several (8?) years, I looked her up on the Internet and found her new salon in Waltham. I was delighted to find her and my first cut at Salon Astante did not disappoint. Gina is, hands down, the best stylist I have ever met! She really listens to what the client wants and then delivers. I was in a couple weeks ago for a Pedicure and Manicure. She was very rude when she called me over, was very rude and ask me to sit in another chair while she prepared for the pedicure. That pedicure itself was okay, but I was rushed through the whole thing. Then when it was time for the manicure that is when it all went down hill. I tried to explain to her what I wanted about my nails and she continued to argue about what I wanted. I decided to leave and not get my nails which a HUGE disappointment. All the other staff that was there were so sweet and I would definitley go back to try out hair services, but as for nails go I DO NOT recommend PAM. read more

Katie is an artist: The best haircut I've ever had! I had admired my friend's haircuts for a long time, and finally had a chance to make an appointment with her stylist as Astante. My overgrown COVID hair was a big job, but she created a perfect haircut for me after a single try. She listened to exactly what I wanted and made it come out perfectly. Diana is an amazing stylist! I have natural black hair so finding a stylist can be tricky. At first I was hesitant and sort of a control freak over my hair cuts due to a prior bad experience, but she was so patient with me and gave me exactly what I wanted. Now I sit back and let her do whatever she wants and it always looks good! I just got partial highlights and she picked a subtle red brown that looks good in a variety of styles! I would recommend her for all hair types, especially natural Black hair! read more

This new salon on Moody St. (Cronin's Landing) is fabulous! I just recently switched salons and hair dressers and loved my experience. Gina is my new hair dresser and she made me feel very comfortable and did an amazing job on my hair. The salon itself has a new, sleek look to it. The staff is very friendly, welcoming, and are experienced stylist. The prices seem very reasonable as well. Aside from hair, you can get your nails done, waxing, and facials. I tried this salon recently. I have been to salons in Brighton and on Newbury Street recently. This place was by far better than those places from a professionalism and atmosphere standpoint. I came to Salon Astante for a last minute spray tan. They were very accommodating and super nice being that I called at the last minute to come in. The spray tan came out GREAT and the woman who applied it was very nice and made me feel very comfortable. I made an appt with Diana, very professional , my color looks awesome and my hair is silky smooth and not dry, and I even went home with a sample/gift bag!
