I really love my technician, Hitomi--she is so gentle and sweet, and I always feel so relaxed during my appointments. I cannot stop staring at my nails every time I get them done! Chiru is also an amazing technician who is incredibly meticulous and detailed in her work. You can really tell they both take their time to ensure perfection! I also love their monthly specials because I'm not the most creative person when it comes to nail designs, but if you come in with a vision, they can create beautiful, intricate designs as well. DO NOT COME HERE! Hitomi is the worst nail tech I've ever dealt with, and her attitude made everything even worse. But putting the attitude aside for a moment--here's what actually happened. She nipped the skin on two of my right-hand fingers. When I mentioned it, instead of being careful, she got lazy and didn't even clean the cuticles properly on my left hand. She admitted she skipped them because I "complained" - of course I spoke up, it hurt. And through all of this, she never apologized. Not once. Then she burned one of my nails with the curing light because she left my hand under it too long. My finger and entire hand hurt for the rest of the day. After all of that, the gel manicure still came out terrible, with messy, uncleaned cuticles. What shocked me the most was that she didn't offer a single apology at any point--not for the nicks, not for the burn, not for the poor work, nothing. I've genuinely never encountered someone this rude in a service setting. Earlier, I wondered why the person before me looked upset--now I understand. Despite all of this, I still tipped 18% out of habit, which I regret. I usually tip 25%, but honestly, this experience didn't deserve anything. Salon is very dirty with nail dust everywhere. The nail technician Hitmoni is probably the WORST nail tech I've ever been to, mostly because her lack of service and how she outwardly shows her discontent with her clients. I've been coming to this salon and seeing Hitomi for over 4 years. It was initially good. I built a rapport with Hitomi and my nails were always so well done. But in the last few months her attitude and quality of nail polish skills deteriorated. She nicked my cuticles in two different occasions and I dealt with a very bad infection. The infection lasted to the next appointment and asked her to be careful. She was careless and hurt me. She was rough. And she this time nicked my other thumb and like the other reviewer said, she didn't clean it or say sorry! I had to take the alcohol spritzer from her and spritz my own nail. This place is a NO. Cute and small. Is it clean? I'll let you take a guess what my answer is. She ran behind due to her prior appointment and rushed on me. I asked her if she needed a break since I was her last appointment and she looked tired. We all have long work days. I get it. She declined. She of course cut my skin on multiple fingers. I said ouch twice before she slowed down. I went in with natural nails being a decent length (on the longer side) with the exception of one nail being short. I asked if she could provide an extension to which she said she didn't have enough time. Mind you, she ran late and I felt she should have accommodated my request. I thought she was shaping them and just making them even with the exception of my one finger nail. Nope. At the end my nails are noticeably shorter. I went to a new nail tech because my usual had hurt her back and was on a break. My friend had recommended this nail tech and because I wanted a Japanese nail tech, my nail tech was Hitomi. First off, when she was done removing my old gel nail, she had dusted off herself and her machine, and then me...which was a little off, but I shrugged it off. Next, she had put on a different polish than I had chosen so I kindly asked her to check because the color looked off. Thats when she got really mean and stood up saying nothing and started removing the ones she had already painted. Then she quietly asked me to relax my hand, which I couldn't hear at first then she said, "relax!" and slightly slapped my arm. It's only been 2 days and my studs get caught on to my hair and they are not placed straight AND my thumb nail came off. I asked my other nail tech and she said that the gel hadn't cured all the way and it was wet in between the layers which could give me allergies. It wasn't Japanese quality at all. A friend of mine recommended Salon Cherie to me years ago, and it was the best advice anyone has told me! The technicians have always been super friendly, professional, and the results have ALWAYS been stellar. I'm usually pretty picky, but I have never walked out of the salon without being super happy with my nails. My mom and I go at the same time, and Hitomi and Alice are always great! We end up having conversations with all of us, and laughing the hour away. Getting an appointment can be challenging, but we book our next appointment when we're there, and we can usually get the time frame that we want, no problem. The online system to book is also pretty easy to use, and once booked, the system updates my calendar, and sends me reminders. Parking is in the lot off of Ala Wai. It can be a little confusing (the first time I went into the apartment building next door), but once you find it, it's no problem. They'll validate, so you'll get a discounted rate. It ends up being between $1.50-$2 every time we go. It's located on the second floor of the Landmark Building, so use the elevator, stairs, or escalator. (It's the door you're facing as you get off the escalator.) Now for the nails, omg. We always do the monthly specials; the designs are always so intricate and cool-looking, and the prices are affordable, too. There are 4 designs at $70 and 2 designs at $85. You can change the color, which fingers which designs go on, and the jewels used on each nail. For Japanese gel + nail artwork, it's a pretty good deal compared to other places I've been. The Japanese gel is so strong, but doesn't seem to damage my nails. I surf almost everyday, and my nails last for 4-6 weeks, easy. The only reason I need to go back is because my nails grow! It's located in the Waikiki Landmark building upstairs and their parking lot entrance is along Ala Wai Blvd. *They are by appointment ONLY and it's easy to book on their website or phone call. No walk ins. I usually get Japanese gel manicure or pedicure and they last for a month or sometimes longer. Every month they have monthly specials that are different designs for a set price. The designs range in price depending on the detail and the colors used can be changed. The nail techs are also very skilled and can do a design if you bring in a photo or have an idea. Definitely check them out on Instagram or their websites for their current designs. Overall, the nail salon is very clean and there's only a few chairs. Just went here for the first time in January 2021 and it was amazing! I did a Japanese gel mani and pedi here and so far my nails look great and are holding up to my everyday routines. Yes, they do gear towards a Japanese clientele (I was the only client that was not fluent in Japanese) but I was treated well and I found the staff to be very friendly. I am not sure if in Japan the technicians don't normally talk too much to the clients, but for me it was fine. Sometimes I find technicians converse so much and they make mistakes...I prefer a quieter environment where I can relax. So just know this place is on the quieter side and don't expect a lot of chit chat unless you speak fluently in Japanese. This was my go to nail shop when i visit Hawaii annually. It started with my wedding nails back in 2018 which I loved and received so many compliments. However, I was disappointed with my visit this time. My appointment was with Hitomi at 4:45pm. When I arrived, she didn't look too happy and friendly. She did a poor job filing my nails. She did asked if the shape looks okay but there is nothing much she can do when she already messed it up and I don't want it to be any shorter. She also pull my cuticles really hard. Although it was not bleeding but it definitely stung when she wiped it with alcohol. The paint job did not look good either. At the end, she charged me $10 extra for gel removal. I asked her what is the gel removal for since I only had regular nail polish on. She only replied I thought it was gel and removed the charge. How can gel nails be removed by just wiping off one time and how could a professional mistaken this for gel? I will probably give this place another try but definitely not with Hitomi. read more

Per referral from a friend and bookmarking all their Instagram posts, I decided to call for an appointment to get the monthly gel manicure special! Always book at least 1 week in advance for an appointment. They validate parking, for which the entrance is located to the left along Ala Wai Blvd, before you hit Kalakaua and right after McCully. It was the worst following Google maps and not being able to find the darn entrance. I gave up and parked at the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel which runs $3 per half hour. Erika was amazing! Super fast and the coolest. She and I jabbered away about EDC and Monster Massive when it was back at the Coliseum in LA, missing big city life, and boys..obviously haha. It's best to go with the monthly gel specials which are posted on their Insta page. You can swap out the colors and change the layout of the jewels/pieces on different fingers for the same price. You can also request past monthly special designs as long as you have the photo on hand. Overall, they're a step above your typical nail salon, because the techs here work art and are quite talented and efficient. Highly recommend and will go back next year when I'm in town. My Japanese gel has been on for 2.5 weeks and it's still perfectly intact. The only reason I am giving 4 and not 5 stars is because of the heat spikes when curing under the UV. I've never gotten Japanese gel before, but it was pretty painful each time my hands went under the UV light, which I don't think is normal. I've had normal gel before and never experienced that. I've come to Salon Cherie a few times for their monthly special gel manicures. For $55 before tax and tip, it's not a bad deal, especially if you like the designs for the month. Also, if you come regularly, like once a month, the free soak offs make it worth it. Other places will charge $5-$10 just to remove the gel polish. I have another favorite salon for regular, one color manis. But I like salon Cherie when I'm feeling fancy. The designs range from simple to very complex and glittery. It is a Japanese nail salon after all. I get many compliments about my nails after I go to salon Cherie, but being a little OCD, I've noticed some flaws. The manicurists are so cute and friendly, which beats going to places like smileys for sure. It's a small shop, but well kept and clean. There's a lot of things that make me love coming home but one of the biggest reasons is the excitement of getting my nails done here. We have great Japanese gel nail salons in Seattle but none of them can compare to the level of detail and skill I get from Chiru at Salon Cherie. Whenever I get my nails done there, it peels in 3 weeks but for some reason when she does my nails it last 5-6 weeks and sometimes even longer. I think a huge part is the care they take in prepping your nails before polish. I was really grateful for her attention to detail and she still constantly went over each nail to make sure everything was perfect. While I was in Hawaii, I decided to get my nails done since I was too sick to get it done before my vacation. I looked for places with good reviews and decided to book this one since they hand paint the designs. This salon is very small. When I went, there were only 2 nails techs. Definitely recommend you to make an appointment before going. It was really easy to find since it's right in front of the escalator. I got one of the monthly special. The design look similar to the design. They did not cut my cuticle. The gel wasn't that thick compare to the Japanese salon that use para gel. Overall, it's pretty good for the price. FYI, they do file your nails a lot. So if you want it long, make sure not to get it cut or trim because it will get shorter than expected. read more

I had a pedicure with a young girl, I don't know her name bc she didn't introduce herself and she did not talk to me a word. The massage was horrible, she had no idea what she was doing. And all this for 83 dollar????? I didn't really have any design in mind, only that it was neutral, simple, and can go with everything I wore. The manicurist (forgot her name) helped me choose one and she ran with it. I loved that they weren't so thick and didn't look fake. The design was simple but not (if that makes sense lol). One thing - salon was kind of hard to find...look up, they're on the 2nd floor. Definitely recommend if you're ever around Waikiki! Wish I booked an appointment to do a more complex nail design but still happy with the outcome. I finally had the chance to try out Salon Chérie after following them on ig for years!! Going to new places makes me nervous, (especially around waikiki) because of the whole parking situation. With validation, parking came out to $1.50 Now for my nails..... they're so cute!!!!!! Megumi did them, she was so sweet. She told me she just arrived from Japan 2 days ago! The only gripe I have is the 3 little beads on my left ring finger aren't centered.. but I think maybe they slid while my hand was curing under the light :/ but it's okay, my hands are still overall really cute! Love this place and all the girls who work here. So very polite and easy to chat with. My visit was one of the most relaxing ones at a salon. They offer the Japanese gel polish which lasts longer than regular shellac and have tons of design stuff to choose from. Felt like the color selection was a bit limited though. Wished they had something similar to Daisy DND which has color match for both hands and feet. Ended up w/ a very pretty shade of blue for my mani that was super close to my pedi color - 143 & 219. They charge $10 for gel removal. My Goddess pedi was great. Feet were scrubbed super clean. Massage and wrap were comfy. Also did nail art for $4/nail. I think I've found my new favorite nail salon!! After trying out many different places, I have to say that for the price and quality of work, no place beats Salon Cherie! It's been over 3 weeks and this is the only time the polish hasn't chipped yet and surprisingly the gems are still intact! You can tell they use high quality products! The salon is located in an office building that is easily missed. Once you locate the building and park (parking is only $1/hour!), head up the escalators/elevators to the 3rd floor. The signs by the parking structure are a bit misleading but the salon is actually located on the 3rd floor. I love how the salon has large windows for you to look out/in. I would say 99% of nail salons out there don't have that luxury and it's nice not feeling stuck inside a small space when you have large ceiling to floor windows. I took advantage of their monthly designs ($55) and told Mariko what colors I wanted. She did a great job removing my old gel polish and freestyling my design. I don't like idle chitchat when I'm getting pampered, so the quiet atmosphere of the salon was very nice. I walked out of my appointment a little over an hour later! Really clean and cute salon in the Waikiki Landmark building. This is my first time going to a Japanese nail salon and I was NOT disappointed. It can be pricey, but follow them on IG for their $55 monthly specials (you can change the colors if you wish), which is what I went for. There are only 2 manicure and pedicure chairs so make sure to make an appointment. Chiru was my manicurist and she was very nice and detail oriented. There is parking downstairs in the structure. If you're going down McCully st, stay in your far right and make a right on the Ala Wai. Then stay in your far left lane and turn left into the structure makes with the letter "P". Parking is $1/hour, pay at the machine using your credit card/debit card. The salon is right at the top of the escalator on the 3rd floor. Only difference between the traditional Vietnamese nail salons vs Japanese nail salon is that they don't do the traditional hand massage, which I'm totally fine with as long as they keep up with the beautiful designs, which are also very long lasting. Would definitely go back again and highly recommend you get some Japanese gel nails! read more
