When I am staying at the St. Regis I always have a blow out from Sal at the Salon Fodera. He is excellent, takes his time and is just a really fun and funny guy to chat with. He remembers everything, even if it has been over a year since I've seen him. I really like the way that they have the sinks at the station and the stylist who is blowing out your hair also washes it. It's a really personal touch. Most recently I had my hair blown out for a black tie gala and the style was perfect and three days later I'm still rocking a perfect blow out. salon Fodera is without a doubt the premier salon for men in Manhattan and from what I have heard and seen they are great with women too. The owner Sal and his whole staff treat you like family and their stylists have world class cutting, coloring and shaving skills. Now you will pay for this service and expertise. While I am very far from a metro-sexual I appreciate a good hair cut and close and relaxing shave. I think men's cuts run about $50 and shaves about $20 / $25. However being in this underground "spa" is a little slice of heaven and their cappuccino is absolutely "fantastic" --you could park a chevy tahoe on the froth of their cappuccino--that's how thick and rich it is! (the cappuccino is free by the way as are other drinks liker Perrier, wine etc) . Fodera is a kind of "who's who" in salons..their stylists compete in international hair styling competitions and they usually win (you can see their trophies on the wall). And just about every famous TV and Film star that's been in Manhattan has or has had their hair cut there from Trump to Dan Rather to Frankie Valli and many more as Fodera displays their photos and autographs in their waiting area. From what I hear most of these men are regulars and on more than one occasion I have seen a newscaster, Australian business and media mogol, or actor having their hair cut. I doubt there's any men's salon more expensive in Manhattan and I know there's none better. read more

My hair was exactly what I wanted - "straight with a little volume" and flattered my face . The style stayed all evening at a white-tie function but was bouncy and shiny. Unfortunately the assistant does not know how to style and blow dry hair. Very disappointing experience. As a hotel guest I expected the salon has experienced talent to prep hair before leaving hotel for a dinner party. I needed to return to my suite and redo the blowout myself. read more

He weaves contour---he accounts for the s h a p e of your head---and precision into the most presentable style for you, and then it actually grows in even better as weeks go by after you have left the salon. Is seventy-five dollars expensive for a haircut? Absolutely, especially if you're used to barber-shop quality. But with a premium cocktail now fetching up to twenty dollars that lasts for twenty minutes, to look your best for his fee is a square deal for sure. After all, you never know who may be checking you out as you sip that Sidecar. And please don't let these celebrity sightings within other reviews intimidate you. I have never heard of haircuts starting at $150, but I thought hey, it's Manhattan, and I want my hair done right. I let them know I had never gotten my hair cut short before. I wanted two long bangs, and the back to be short layers. Well I was left with a bob. A bob. I'm a transman; trying to transition into manhood, and I got a bob. After discussing it for a while with my stylist, I got him to sort of cut the back how I liked, but he still left WAY too much hair. Way, too, much, hair. Not what I wanted. In the front, he kept cutting short bangs; like 2 inches short. I WANTED LONG BANGS. I told them what I wanted, I even kept telling him, NO I WANT LONG BANGS. I came home, and my mother wanted to disown me for it; that's how bad she hated it. She said I opted to look ugly. After 2 hours of being home, the short bangs he made started fluffing away from the long bangs (he kept them together with product so it looked like they weren't a problem). After 1 wash, I looked like a 10 year old boy, with most of my forehead being covered in short bangs that I could not part, bangs that got in my eyes, and I am legally blind so it severely impaired my vision. Now I have to part my hair in the middle, and it looks boring and ugly. Worst part is I spent 25% of my disability check on something that didn't even last a day; something I hate... TLDR? Don't go there unless you want something super simple, but if you want that, why pay almost $200? read more

I see Vincent for color and trim and he's absolutely fabulous. I have very dark brown hair and color it to a very light honey blonde. I have to go every three weeks because my roots drive me crazy, but I think Vincent is fabulous. I love the salon because it's small and quiet- I always disliked going to a salon with 30 women at a time. I found Vincent when I was planning my wedding at the St. Regis two years ago. He is very smart and listens to what you want (or what you think you want) but offers his opinion and tells you how it can work or not.
