I often joke that I wish I had a more complicated service just so I could spend more time at Salon Phoenix. Celeste has created such a beautiful, calm, and welcoming space that you genuinely want to sit, relax, and chat. As much as I could happily stay for hours, I always leave feeling great. Not only does my hair look amazing, but I usually leave with a new book recommendation, a recipe to try, or a few beauty products to check out. One of the things I appreciate most about Celeste is her incredible memory. She remembers your likes and dislikes, special interests, and even the little things happening in your life. It makes every visit feel truly personal. I've never experienced a salon quite like this--completely one-on-one, with such personalized attention. Honestly, I don't think I could ever go back to a traditional salon setting. Salon Phoenix offers a truly high-end, concierge-style experience at an incredible value. I couldn't recommend Celeste and Salon Phoenix more highly. If you're looking for beautiful hair and an experience that feels genuinely personal and special, you absolutely have to visit.

Today (Thursday July 17th at 1pm) I'm not sure what was happening but there was an extensive line. The threading artist was obviously practicing first come first served which Im used to. However the issue today was me getting pushed behind all of these customers who came in the shop AFTER me. Me being the only African American in there. Not saying it's a race thing, but let your brain paint whatever picture it needs. She then calls another person and I give a look of unsatisfactory and she says "you'll be next." Obviously I'm upset waiting there for 45 minutes already, and on my lunch break. I had to leave not only to get back to work but to keep myself from crashing out. I just think it's disrespectful to treat any guest this way but especially one who comes in every month for the last 3 years. Unfortunately that left a horrible taste in my mouth and I will never be back.

I'm so happy with both of the two experiences I had with Salon Gatto. Finding someone you trust to handle your hair is a big deal, it's almost life changing. I moved to Jersey City over a month ago, and was looking for a place with affordable price point, but also extremely professional and has a touch of the luxury upscale feeling. (I know that's so lame, don't wanna pay a fortune but want upscale service...? Sorry not sorry i'm broke like that.) Overall: Salon Gatto is CLEAN and has AWESOME MUSIC PLAYLIST. The complimentary drinks service is very sweet, and the blow-dryers hanging from the ceiling is such a creative and genius idea! I've never seen that in any other salons before, whoever designed that is just genius. The staffs are extremely friendly and always have smiles on their face, great knowledge and talkative. The salon features a variety of incredible hair product lines as well as body products like hand lotions stuff. Detail-oriented is the key to successful business :) The salon just feels upbeat, happy, modern, and slick. 1 major detail i love: when you get your hair shampooed, they use this awesome tea-tree oil infused warm towel, it feels like THE ULTIMATE ZEN MODE lol. Services wise: 1) I went for coloring first. Monique was my stylist. She was extremely knowledgeable and explained thoroughly to me why exactly for my hair I would have to do a highlight instead of a single color process like I thought so. She explained a lot of technical details to me, and that is the reason why I was down to pay $200 for my above shoulder length bob hair. Even though it's out of my budget, but I felt justified through getting to know more about my hair from her. It is still expensive, I'm not gonna lie, but this is Hoboken, not my little PA town anymore so I guess it's actually affordable for average market rate in this area. Monique was great not only because she was able to teach me new knowledge about my hair, but she's also so experienced in a way she created the hair color I have vaguely imagined. I was very pleased with my new look, and apparently my friends and family all love it too. 2) I went to get a trim today for my bob cut. It was getting long and weighted down my overall look, and I was with Amanda today. I love her!!! I don't know how she did it, but I felt like she finished the look I wanted in such a short time, so much faster than the other salons I've been to in the last couple of years. She did it effortlessly! I'm definitely coming back for her!!! $60 is a bit expensive to my taste but I can't find anywhere in the Hoboken/JC area cheaper than this with same level of services & vibe, so I'm gonna stick to it. I've been going to Salon Gatto since the salon opened and seeing Amanda even longer. When it came time to plan my wedding hair and make up, the only choice in my mind was Salon Gatto. From the very beginning, the bridal coordinator, Amelia, was amazing to work with. She was so responsive and answered all my (many) questions. When COVID hit, the original date for my hair & make up trial was actually the day the salon was forced to close. Despite all the unknowns the business was facing, the owner, Christine, called me personally to let me know we'd need to postpone and she was so empathetic and reassuring. Over a year later, when we finally landed on a new wedding date, Amelia made it so easy to get everything back in order - she didn't miss a beat. When the wedding day finally came, Amanda (hair), Lexi (hair), Princessa (make-up), and Casey (make-up) were a seamless unit. They were so professional and worked together to keep the day on schedule without ever rushing anyone. Amanda has been doing my hair for nearly 8 years, so I knew it would be perfect (and it was!). Leading up to the big day, she even spent extra time in my regular appointments to make sure my color would be absolutely flawless and complement the style we had landed on in my trial. She always goes the extra mile and I was so happy she was able to be a part of my wedding day. Lexi did a great job with the ladies who were less sure what they wanted and patiently talked through options to make sure everyone got a look they loved. The room was buzzing with praise before Lexi even finished my MIL's hair - it looked SO good. When it came to make-up, my sisters and I don't typically wear a lot, so that was the part I was most nervous about. Casey and Princessa both took the time to find out what each person was comfortable with, what they liked and didn't like, and then did a flawless job. I've never seen every single person in a wedding party so pleased with their final looks. Princessa and Casey are both extremely talented and I seriously wish they could do my make-up every day. From all the years I've been going to Salon Gatto, I knew they would do a great job, but Amanda, Lexi, Princessa, Casey, and Amelia truly took it to the next level for my wedding day and I couldn't be more grateful. read more

I seriously cannot say enough good things about Salon Gatto. I came in after having a really unfortunate haircut experience at another salon and was honestly so upset and unsure of what could even be done to fix it. From the moment I walked in, the ladies at the front desk were incredibly welcoming and understanding. I explained what had happened, and they immediately checked the schedule to see if there was any way they could help me. They were able to fit me in with Alexis after only about an hour wait, which I was SO grateful for. Alexis was absolutely wonderful. She took the time to look through my hair, explain to me what had happened with the previous cut, and talk me through what she would need to do to correct it. More than anything, I felt genuinely seen and understood. I was already emotional about having to lose more length than I originally wanted, and she was so patient and thoughtful throughout the entire process. She never made me feel rushed and really took her time to make sure everything was even, blended, and done correctly. I walked out feeling so much better and absolutely love what she was able to do with my hair. I've also previously seen Odalis, Hannah, and Casey at Salon Gatto, and every single one of them has been incredibly skilled and has given me a great experience. The level of talent and care across this salon really speaks for itself. Safe to say I learned my lesson the hard way -- Salon Gatto will officially be the only salon I trust with my hair from now on. So incredibly grateful to Alexis and the entire team for turning such a disappointing experience into one that made me feel like myself again. read more

I have not had my haircut by someone new in a very long time. I finally decided it was time to stop trekking back to my hometown and get something done locally. After reading some of the reviews on YELP I decided to give Gatto a try. I called to make my appointment and accommodating me was simple and I was told Monique would be my stylist. When I arrived (coming off the path) I was not sure if the entrance was in the back or the front. I caught a glimpse of a sign and easily punched in the code and when I entered the salon was instantly welcomed. The women at the desk was on a call when I entered but once she finished up (apologizing or making me wait, it had been only a minute so I told her no need to apologize) she instantly had me signing in and offered the complimentary cocktail list. Not soon after I finished signing in I was welcomed again by Monique. She brought me to her chair and began a consultation. I am so nervous when it comes to someone cutting my hair but she made me feel welcome and was open to what I wanted while offering her professional suggestions. I only wanted a few inches and she added that some layers would give me more body. My hair was at a dead point so I welcomed the suggestion. Everything else after that was wonderful as well. From the wash to the dry Monique and Gatto Salon were amazing. It was also reasonably priced. I loved my hair cut and have received so many compliments, my roommate is even going to give it a try. I came here to glam myself up for my office Christmas party. I chose this salon for their stylist Princessa who did not disappoint. The vibe of the salon is very lounge like, all the attendants from the receptionist to the girl that washed my hair were very attentive and friendly. Princessa got started on me right away with my hair first .. she asked for the look I wanted, gave me her input and we were on our way. It came out GORGEOUS. I must say other salons cannot quite curl the ends of my hair the way I see in magazines but Princessa managed to nail it to a T. We then moved on to makeup. I NEVER get my makeup professionally done but this was a special occasion. She heard me out as to what I would like and started doing her thing. This was a leap of faith for me as there was no mirror to peek at while I felt her working her magic on my face. Once she was done and I sat back in her chair for a hair touch up (she is meticulous that way ..won't let you walk out unless you look as close to perfect as possible) I saw my face for the first time. It was AMAZING!!! I received tons if compliments at the party and recommended her highly to all of my female co workers that were impressed with the flawless details. Salon Gatto is a total experience. The number one goal here is for customer satisfaction and a total pleasurable experience. I look forward to my Salon Gatto visits because I am so pampered and taken care, it is a mini vacation for me! The staff is professional, kind and hip. The ambiance is like being in NYC for a fraction of the cost. The service you receive is beyond compare. My stylist AMANDA is the best I have ever had! She spends a nice amount of time before each appointment to consult with me so that she knows exactly what I want. I now just let her do what she wants because I trust her impeccably . Amanda has true talent for color and a fantastic way of cutting hair. It was no surprise to me that she also has an interest in art as she is truly a hair artist. The owner, Christine, checks in on each client and makes sure that we are all well taken care of. At Salon Gatto, the experience begins as you walk in and are offered a complimentary beverage off of their menu! I love to sip Rose while I am getting my hair colored! ( Who wouldn't?) My hair stylist, Princessa, recently moved to Salon Gatto and I had my first experience today. I have to say it was the most relaxing and attentive salon I had ever been in. All the staff members are really friendly and helpful. They first offer you a seasonal drink list of teas, coffees, cappachinos (I got pumpkin spice, amazing!) beer, and wine. It was cool because all the drinks were from local businesses so it was nice to see them promoting our community. The salon was clean, organized and not loud. Princessa had a really helpful assistant that made the coloring process go smoothly. The wash station was super relaxing with a footrest for you to stretch your legs out on(don't know about you, but sometimes there chairs can be uncomfortable when you try to sit back in them). I laid back comfortably and enjoyed my scalp massage followed up with a back massage. Princess's did an amazing, bouncy haircut (as usual) and an amazing balayage. I've been going to Monique since before she came to Salon Gatto and have never had a single complaint. The salon is beautiful, close to the path (so close to cabs too if you live uptown), and the staff is attentive. But the best part is what an awesome job Monique does on my hair! She is extremely talented--especially good with color and is willing to consult with you on different options, offering her experience and opinion to help get you exactly what you're looking for--even if you weren't entirely sure how to describe it yourself. She's taken me from long dark hair to blonde highlights hair to short blonde hair, and most recently back to a beautiful rich brown color with honey colored highlights. Truly the best stylist I've been to in town (and I've lived here for 8 years!). 1st of all congrats to the proprietors of this new salon, fantastic staff and environment. You are welcomed with a beverage of your choice by a very helpful and accommodating hostess. Instead of a typical waiting area you are welcomed to hang at their bar surrounded by floor to ceiling windows with a view of passerbys. The open floorplan and sleek decor feels like someplace you would find over on the other side of the Hudson. Randi, my stylist, is knowledgable, extremely friendly, and has both trained and taught with some of the top tier in the country on both coasts and Chicago one of my favorite cities. She is not afraid to venture out with you to create a whole new look and style or in my case keeping the same simple cut I've been satisfied with for years. I had such a fantastic experience getting my keratin treatment done by Princessa! She is truly a pro -- the whole process took just about two hours, which is impressive considering I have a lot of thick, frizzy hair. Normally, I can't let my hair air dry without it turning into a puffball, but this time it dried perfectly on its own. I couldn't be happier with the results! What really stood out to me was how gentle the treatment was. In the past, keratin treatments have had such a strong chemical smell that they burned my eyes, but this one was super mild -- and still gave me amazing, sleek results. Usually, after a keratin treatment, my hair looks oily and matted until I wash it, but not this time! It looked fresh and styled right away, and I even got compliments on how great my hair looked. I waited a couple weeks to write my review to see how my color stayed, and it still looks so fabulous. I used to work reception at a salon Princessa styled in, and I had the pleasure of watching countless women walk out so pleased with her creations! In my time since leaving the salon, I had been trying to grow my hair out and unfortunately have had a few issues getting the right color where I feel comfortable going 6+ months without really coloring. Princessa understood what I wanted what my goals were, she perfectly blended my hair (bleached out blonde) to match my root (a darker blonde) using some foils and a toner. I received the results I wanted with significantly less damage than when I have gone to other salons looking for the same thing. Her visualization for hair color is on point! I am so happy I tried this salon for the first time yesterday. Impeccable service from the minute I walked in - Greg was super friendly when he checked me in. He handed me a drink menu with lots of fancy teas, coffees and other beverage options. I was introduced to my stylist Amanda next and told her I really didn't know what I wanted and that I just needed a change and to make my hair look good! She knew exactly what to do and instead of chopping off too much, she worked in baby steps and after blow drying my hair, asked if I wanted more chopped off to make sure I was 100% happy with the end product. I am so excited that my hair has life again and I am actually excited to blow-dry it and show it off!! Kodumu was a stylist I immediately felt comfortable with. He paid a lot of attention to the detail of the aesthetics of my hair, my needs, and what was best for my cut. He let me express what I wanted and respected my wishes to not go crazy chopping it all off. I can tell he knew what he was doing and would 100% make an appointment with him again. My hair cut and blow out came out exactly how I wanted. He was a knowledgeable hair dresser. I also thought the saloon was clean and I appreciated having my coat hung up for me and a drink menu offered. I can tell the other hair dresser's are talented as well because the other people sitting in the chair's next to me had great styles as well. I went to Eddie for highlights and hair extensions this past week and I can honestly say that it was the best experience I've ever had at a salon. Eddie is a true professional, extremely kind, patient and an expert in performing magic on hair. The extensions were a lengthy process, and Eddie fit me into his schedule as early as he could (even coming in on a day he was off) to do my extensions. He was gentle and thorough, and I can't thank him enough for doing such an amazing, transformative job on my hair. This top-notch Hoboken salon is truly the most beautiful hair salon I've ever stepped foot into. It's conveniently located right across from the PATH station and near a bunch of great bars and restaurants where you can grab lunch before or after your appointment. It's a wonderful place to get pampered in because you feel like you're getting treated to a luxurious experience- the staff is pleasant and warm, the stylists are inspiring and fashionable, and the complimentary beverages are always delicious. Christine is an insanely talented stylist and colorist- I travel 1.5 hours each way to go to this salon because I get consistently excellent results. I visited Monique at Salon Gatto for the first time and could not be more pleased with my experience. From the moment I walked in the door to the time I walked out, I felt well-attended to by the team. The reception was warm and efficient. Monique was so nice and let me knock out work emails while she highlighted my blonde hair. She kept my highlights very subtle the way I requested without taking hours to get through a full set. My bob cut was top notch; it was exactly what I asked for. Salon Gatto definitely wants their customers to enjoy the experience, paying close attention to the small details that make all of the difference - offering complimentary drinks, giving a little extra massage and maintaining a clean, comfortable environment. I came to Salon Gatto on the verge of pulling a Britney Spears & shaving all my hair off. I'm a natural blonde who made the mistake of going over to the red side. I was told by stylists that I would never be able to go back to blonde, it would be too much work, it would never look the same, etc. Thank god I found Randi at Salon Gatto, who never once said she couldn't achieve the look I wanted. She is so talented and every step of the way my hair looked awesome, no awkward in between phases. The staff at the salon are also so accommodating and friendly. When you walk in some one is always there to welcome you (Camila is awesome!) and offer you a beverage from their beverage menu. The experience as a whole is so relaxing and incredible. I get my hair cut and colored by Alana and she is truly AMAZING! I've had my hair highlighted for over a decade and she has given me the best color out of anyone I've seen! Not only is the color always spot on--vibrant, natural, and exactly what I wanted--but the cut is precise, flattering, and grows out beautifully. What sets Alana apart is her attention to detail and how she really listen. She takes the time to understand what I'm looking for and always offer great suggestions when I'm unsure. have been with my stylist Molly for over a year and I'm completely thankful I found her and Salon Gatto. The first time, I came in I wanted to do something new to freshen up my naturally black hair. I had a few thoughts about what I wanted but nothing written in stone. Molly took the time to listen to all my needs and suggested something that would be a nice change. Now, I usually never come in with any reference photos, and I just explain to her what I'm going for and she always does a fabulous job! The location of the salon is very convenient and overall the atmosphere is always upbeat and lively. The drink menu, hot towel, and light shoulder message, and the friendly receptionists are an added bonus to the already luxurious experience! read more

The best anywhere! For lack of better words, I have been a salon whore for as long as I can remember, never going to the same place or stylist twice because I was always dissatisfied. I think my friends would call me very particular ;) When I met Christine, my life changed! She is an amazing stylist! She is stylish, personable and a beautiful person inside and out. She really takes the time to really listen to your wants and needs, in order to achieve your desired look. I've gone as far as to be concerned about what I would do if she moved away, where would I go? Would I spend another 10+ years looking for someone that satisfied me? That said, I've been coming to her for years and it has never not been to my liking. She just gets it right. Hayley is my stylist, and she is equally fantastic. She cuts the best bangs on the East Coast, is incredibly talented, and is also just a genuinely lovely person. Every haircut leaves me walking out with gorgeous hair. She takes the time to talk through how I actually style my hair at home (which, admittedly, is nowhere near as good as how she styles it!), what will change once I'm doing it myself, and gives me practical tips for recreating the look. I really appreciate that she considers not just how the cut looks when I leave the salon, but how it will work for me afterward. And the environment Kris has created is a huge part of why I keep coming back. It's warm, comfortable, and filled with an incredible combination of talented, thoughtful, and genuinely funny people. I came in very excited for my appointment and was expecting a full highlight/balayage…read moretransformation. Before booking, I sent photos of my current hair, a previous photo showing my balayage, and inspiration photos from Alysa's own page showing the dimensional, blended color I liked. I also spoke with someone at the salon beforehand and made sure my information was passed along to Alysa. I explained that I wanted to keep my hair on the lighter side since my current balayage was already more blonde. I was looking for warm caramel/honey tones, brighter face-framing pieces, soft ribbon highlights, dimension, and a natural blended finish. During my appointment, Alysa asked what I wanted, and I specifically told her in person that I wanted the color brought closer to the root with a blended transition. Unfortunately, the final result did not match the vision we discussed or the inspiration I provided. The back and crown area remained very dark, and the result felt more like a shadow root and refresh of my previous color rather than the full highlight transformation I was expecting. It appears that the new growth was mainly shadowed and the existing lighter pieces were re-lightened instead of creating the brighter, dimensional look I requested. The color also turned out more brassy than I expected. I felt the toning process was rushed. It seemed like the toner was applied and rinsed out very quickly rather than being left on long enough to properly neutralize the brassiness and achieve the softer tone I was looking for. I was also disappointed with the finishing of my hair. After a color service at this price point, I expected a polished salon finish, but my hair was left puffy, rough, and not styled the way I expected. It felt like there was still product left in my hair, and I had to go home and fix it myself. The blowout fee was an additional $80, which made this even more disappointing. My previous stylist was very detail-oriented and always took her time. Even though she relocated far away, I always left her salon feeling confident, with my hair fully styled, soft, and beautiful. I have never left a salon feeling like the stylist was rushing through the service. I also did not appreciate the way Alysa discussed my hair being "not prepped" while speaking with another stylist in front of me. I was never sent preparation instructions or an email explaining that my hair needed to be prepped in a specific way before my appointment. I have never heard of needing my hair "prepped" in that way, especially since many salons actually recommend coming in with hair that has not been freshly washed before a color service. If there were concerns, I would have appreciated being informed directly and professionally rather than hearing the conversation while it was being discussed with another stylist. I also feel I was overcharged for the service I received. I paid for what I understood to be a full highlight, but the final result appears more like a partial highlight with a shadow root and a refresh of my existing color. The outcome did not reflect the level of service or transformation I expected for the price I paid. The most disappointing part is that after spending this much money, my friends and coworkers did not even notice that I had my hair done because the overall appearance looked so similar to my previous color. I was expecting a noticeable, brighter transformation, and instead I left feeling like the change was minimal and not worth the time, cost, or effort. The service was $560, and I still left a $125 tip because I appreciated the stylist's time and effort. However, I was disappointed because the final result did not match what I requested. I now have to find another salon to correct the color because my crown area is still mostly dark, which is not what I wanted. Overall, this experience felt like a waste of time and money. I paid the same price at other salons and left with hair that was beautiful, soft, fully styled, and exactly what I asked for. Unfortunately, I would not return or recommend this salon. I would advise others to be cautious and think twice before booking, especially if you are looking for a detailed color transformation and a stylist who truly takes the time to understand your vision. A stylist who takes pride in their work should not let a client leave feeling like they received a partially completed service after paying for a premium color service and blowout.

The difference with Maribel's cuts is that they actually still look good after you wash and dry it at home! This year I wanted another new style and went back a few days ago, Jankee did my hair once again and it came out perfect once again! She is the reason I adore this place. First off she ALWAYS listens to what you want and does not hesitate to give you her own advice. She is also not scissor happy which is huge in my book. One of those artists who isn't just going to do what the picture you brought in looks like. He's going to talk to you about what version of that style might be best for you. He takes everything into consideration and doesn't make a move on anything with your hair until you are both excited about the plan. Honestly, I never want to go to anybody else. And I should add that everyone I met at that salon, including the owner, was incredibly nice. Like, genuinely nice. Not performing for customers.
