I've never had short hair before and I was nervous for someone to touch my hair that might not understand my needs, especially without seeing my full face because of a mask. As a blonde that wants that whiter tone but hair that pulls gold, I know how hard it is to get it just right. I went to Salon Gatto for the first time yesterday and Alex blew me away! Not only was the customer service amazing and they made me feel awesome, plus they had little snacks and the cutest drink menu, but Alex made sure she didn't let me walk out without getting all the gold out. She used a blonde bayalage/hair painting technique and toned it twice until she was certain the color was right. I really appreciated her attention to detail. Alex also asked if she could airbrush my makeup on, as they had a contest going on. I let her and I was thrilled I did because I looked fabulous at dinner. I like the guy who does my hair, Danilo. I have been seeing him for a while, even before he joined Salon Gatto. He's always overbooked, but I have been patient enough, because I liked seeing him. I like the owner too. Pleasant and I think she's done a great job with growing her salon! I missed my appointment on 9/1. I had just returned from 3 weeks of being away; I have a crazy, intense, high pressure job and 2 kids at home. Not that I need anyone's sympathy, but I need to explain the situation. No one called to confirm, and in the midst of the madness I missed the appointment. Front desk girl calls me and tells me that they have to charge me 50% of my services for the missed appointment. I was blown away. Someone who never cancels, on the contrary, they've messed my appointments twice, I tip well and I am a long time customer; and my mom and my sister go there. There was absolutely no flexibility or leeway. NONE. I asked her to speak to my hairdresser and the answer was: "he's not the one to make that call". The firmness and rudeness of the answers was mind-blowing. I was going to dispute, but I won't, out of respect for Dani. But I am not going back and neither will my mom or sister. read more

Initial, face to face, consultation with the "expert", though, very rocky. Exploring options for a new style & refreshed look, it involves seeking the input & applicable experience of someone who is called "expert" in the craft that they practiced for many years. That didn't happen. Because of the Salon's highly regarded reputation, the "hair job" was completed w/ acceptable results. But, the smoothness wasn't there. On the subsequent visit, Yes, subsequent visit to complete the process, the expert did & finished the job, as a job! Financial cost was Never the issue. It was like, you go a fancy restaurant, the food dish is delicious, but, the attitude & the mood of your attendant is bitter, like an abundant dose of lemon in a lemon pie! Yes, Recommend the Salon, this "expert", Not for me. I could hardly find any recommendations, as other stylists, have received plenty of mentions. I decided to give this salon a try because of all the 5 Star reviews. I scheduled an appointment for single process to cover my grays and wanted some natural subtle balayage highlights. My highlights didn't come out very subtle, and I was not very happy with the results. However, Christine, owner of the salon went out of her way to fix my hair and now I am 100% happy with the results. Christine is amazingly talented, professional and really cares about her customers. I recently had to find a new colorist since mine left Hoboken and a friend recommended Piera. Like most women I am extremely particular about my hair but since my friend has very pretty highlights I figured I'd do some research on Piera and give it a shot. I am so glad I did because agree with all the other reviews I read- her highlights are PERFECT. So natural and well blended. She's extremely professional and diligent. I have very thick long hair so it's important to me that my colorist will have the patience to use the right technique even though it takes longer than average. I've been getting compliments ever since I saw her two weeks ago- even over zoom! I already made an appointment to go back in three months. I can't recommend her enough. Separately, the salon is very clean and airy with a nice high-end feel. They use Oribe products, my favorite, which you can purchase at the desk. read more

I've been following Salon Gatto on Instagram for about a year, so when it came time to get a post-quarantine cut and color, I knew they would be the salon for me! I really cannot say enough good things about the staff - everyone was so kind and friendly. I exchanged several phone calls and emails with Amelia and Stefany, who I shared photos of my current hair and dream hair so they could get a game plan for what would need to done. When I came in for a consultation, Amelia recognized me from my emails and gave me the warmest of welcomes, which made me feel comfortable and at home (even though it was my first ever visit!) I will admit I was super nervous going into my appointment as I have had red hair for years and wasn't sure how smoothly a transition to ashy brown with dimensional highlights and lowlights would go, but Stephanie worked her magic and I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the results! I am so so happy with my hair, it looks and feels amazing, and I already have my next appointment booked for October. I will also add that the salon was SUPER clean and the staff took a ton of precautions to ensure everyone's safety - temp checks at the door, and at any given time there was no more then 4 clients being serviced with plenty of space between chairs and sinks. I went in for my first appointment at Salon Gatto a few weeks ago. My best friend has been doing my hair for quite some time, and moving to Boston I had to find someone new. I tried a bunch of people and I did not trust anyone else with my color other than the wonderful Molly! Molly has been at Salon Gatto for about two years and I knew I had to go see her. Luckily with my flexible work schedule, I arranged a trip literally around my hair appointment (she books up fast people!). Everything was completely clean and safe, temp check at the door, wash hands, sanitize, covers over the seats, not overcrowded. I couldn't have felt more safe. I do wish I was able to try some of the signature cocktails though! My hair painting took about 3 hours, but Molly listened to exactly what I wanted, and remembered what we did the last time and understood how my hair reacted to certain colors and tones. She always explains the different treatments and products she's using, and the best things to do to care for my hair. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the subtle brightening but still natural looking result when it was finished. A few weeks later the color is still vibrant. She's a magician. When I spend a lot of money at a salon, I always hope that I will have the best experience possible. Not only is Monique extremely talented with her coloring and cutting skills, but she is great at consultation and making sure you will end up with something you love. I appreciate the safety precautions during this time with temperature checks for staff and guests, hand sanitizer procedures, mask requirements and plastic dividers for each seat. I have been a client of Frank's for many years and I am happy to see he is in an excellent establishment! Where do I start with how much I love this place?? I had previously been getting balayage done at my old salon and was truthfully never fully satisfied with it. I moved to Downtown Jersey City not too long ago and wanted to find a new hair place nearby for cut and color. I checked Yelp and found Salon Gatto- directly next to the Hoboken Path station (which is perfect for me) and had amazing reviews. I was nervous because I'm very particular about my hair. When you walk in the atmosphere is friendly, energetic, and you *feel* like you know you are going to walk out with beautiful hair. They greet you by taking your coat to hang, handing you a menu with a complimentary beverage (tea, water, and WINE- yaas). I originally saw Randi who did an awesome job on my first balayage there and knew I was going to continue coming to Salon Gatto. Before my next appointment I was emailed and informed that unfortunately Randi was moving, but that Salon Gatto made sure that she left all her detailed notes on color formulas and haircuts to duplicate the same style or color technique along with recommendations for best fit with other Gatto Stylists. I previously read excellent reviews about a stylist named Princessa and when I called to make my next appointment, they suggested I see her for my balayage so I was super excited. I hope I never move too far again because I want Princessa to continue doing my hair FOREVER!! She is so incredibly talented. I told her I wanted a cut this time to shape up my previously grown out hair style to put in some layers and a full balayage. I was so impressed with the cut and it was exactly how I described. The color- even better. Beautiful icy blonde with so many dimensions of color and it still looked natural even as it continued to grow out. Besides all of that, she styled my hair with the curling wand and it turned out gorgeous. I had a bridal shower the next day and even after sleeping on it I woke up looking exactly the same. I received SO many compliments on the color, style, and how healthy my hair looked from the cut. I came in with super long hair with really brassy highlights which looked lifeless. I had a slight idea of what I wanted but I wasn't too sure. So Molly called me in for a consultation 2 weeks before my actual appointment. We went over what I wanted and she gave me a really good idea of what she thought would work. She had a very clear direction and made me feel super comfortable. 2 weeks later I came in and got what I like to call the best hair transformation of my life. Piera did an AMAZING job with my keratin treatment. It's a literal game changer, I couldn't be more in love with how my hair is right now. The frizz is gone, almost straight, and usually it's aggressively frizzy and curly.
