I like the salon and the stylists, but not the customer service I received. I initially bought a Groupon for 1 blowout, then I decided I would prefer to buy the Groupon for the set of 3 blowouts. I made sure to read the fine print ("Limit 1 per person, may buy 1 additional as a gift. Limit 1 per visit."). Because Groupon allowed me to complete the transaction (usually they prohibit you from completing the purchase if you reached the max. you can purchase) and because I read "limit 1 per person" as "a limit of 1 of each offer available per person" I thought my Groupon would be accepted. If a returning customer/returning blowout customer was unable to use the Groupon it would usually state this in the fine print, as I've seen with many other businesses, especially salons. I called several times, setting up appointments for the 3 blowouts. I mentioned the Groupon because I remember an employee offering me an appointment after 10am and I said "but the Groupon says from 7am to 10am" and so we scheduled an appointment before 10am. After my 1st blowout from the set of 3, I proceeded to show my Groupon and was told it would not be accepted due to me using a Groupon for 1 blowout during my very first visit. This was a surprise to me because I have been calling and setting up appointments for the last 3 weeks. I tired to explain this to the employee and he would not budge. I was forced to fork up $40 to pay for a blowout I thought was already paid for through Groupon. I contacted the owner via email, hoping this would resolve the issue, but the most I was able to receive was the difference of one Groupon-priced blowout and a regular, full-priced blowout. This left me with a Groupon I was unable to use. I then had to contact Groupon myself and try to resolve the issue of getting my money back. Instead of getting money back to my credit card I was only able to receive "Groupon Bucks" aka Groupon credit. The difference was $22.75 but the owner refused to even give me the exact $22.75 and just offered a $20 bill. $2.75 is nothing, but it reflected greatly on the lack of customer service. I was disappointed and upset as I was led to believe I could use the Groupon and was not told otherwise, not by the fine print on Groupon nor by one of the many employees I spoke to. I had to cancel my future 2 blowout appointments, one of which was scheduled on Valentines Day. It was a very frustrating experience, having to go back and forth with both the owner and Groupon and I felt like I couldn't fully enjoy my best friend's bday that I was trying to celebrate that day. I would've appreciated my Groupon being accepted, as it was not my fault, and for them to simply explain that further Groupons would not be accepted as I have already had a blowout at the salon. I like the salon and the stylists were very nice to me, but due to this experience, I will not be returning. read more

Christine - the awesome owner of Salon Gatto - has been doing my hair since Salon Gatto was just a dream in her head. Years ago I moved from Philly had no idea who to trust in the area. After a few misses, I finally found Christine. It's been 8 years now and I haven't let anyone else do my hair. She's incredible. So when it came time to pick someone to do my hair for my wedding, I knew I couldn't trust anyone else. At my trial we did two looks and I fell in love with the second one. I'll admit, I also had a hair trial with someone who else was more local to my wedding venue and it took her almost 3 hours to get something I was mildly happy with. Christine had my hair looking amazing in 30 minutes. It was an easy decision to work with Christine for my wedding too. My sister is also really particular about her hair and I was nervous about choosing a stylist to her hair for the wedding. Then she met with Christine and my sister got exactly what I was looking for. Even though I was getting married hours away, Christine was there, perfectly on time with a smile on her face - which is the usual for her. She drove down the night before so I didn't have to worry. I had back up plan after back up plan for my whole wedding, so I wouldn't' have to stress - yet come the morning of my wedding - the one thing I didn't have a back up plan for was hair and make up for my bridesmaids. The woman I hired to do their hair and make up never showed. And then, like my fairy godmother, Christine simple stepped in and said she could help out. So after doing three up-dos for me, my mom and sister, she helped my maids do simple and beautiful things with their hair, out of the goodness of her heart, she stayed later and I couldn't' have been more thankful. Bad, bad, bad. Well, where do I begin? First off, I follow Salon Gatto & a lot of their stylists on Insta, & I was so excited to go, so I booked my appt to see Danni, but he had a long wait list, so I booked it about 3 months in advance, & I was so excited & happy for my appt. Now, on the day of my appt, I arrived at 6:45 for my 6:50 pm appt, & I'm brought to the chair waiting for Danny , & I sit patiently for 45 min, & he never comes!!! Meanwhile, Danny is in the very next station over doing color on someone & he doesn't even acknowledge me or say sorry how late he is. It was unbelievable. This is the worse I have ever been treated in any establishment. I go to the reception, & I ask what on earth is going on, & he just said that Danny is still busy with someone else. Common courtesy would be for him to at least come up to me & acknowledge me & say he's sorry he's running so behind. I proceed to tell the receptionist that I have to go because I've already been waiting 1 hour, so I decide to leave, & as I'm leaving, I get called back saying that another stylist who is available can cut my hair, so I let that stylist cut my hair, but I wasn't that impressed with the cut, & it didn't look like the picture that I provided. Salon Gatto was a huge disappointment, & it gets worse. At the end of my appt, which is now after 9pm for a 6:50pm appt, I tell the receptionist how unhappy I am that I waited over an hour for Danny, & that he never came over & that I should get compensated somehow & at least get an apology from Danny, but the receptionist states, he can't do anything. Fast forward to the next day, the salon owner, reaches out stating that I can get a 10% discount on my NEXT haircut appt. What an utter disappointment. I will never come here again. They do not value your time, or your business or customer service. I would give 0 stars if I could read more

I have straight thin hair, long bob haircut. From my prospective it's an extremely simple haircut, just cut it evenly, that's it. Monique was inattentive to what I was asking for. I came back home, brushed my hair and cut everything she missed. She also blow-dried my hair in a way I looked bold after that blow dry. When I asked for some volume, she said that she thought I like it flat. And by the way 1 inch is 1 inch, not 1 inch on the left side and 1.5 inches on the right. He updated my natural color with leftover blonde ends from a year ago to a prismatic and brilliant blonde color! He delicately applied the blonde all throughout, with beautiful strands and light streaks of color on the top and even more blonde at the bottom. He paid so much attention to detail. I cannot rave enough about him. He is truly passionate and went above and beyond in spending his time on me and energy. I would absolutely go back to him! I moved to the city a few months ago and figured I should try to find a salon by my apartment instead of going back to NJ for my hair. Biggest mistake!!! I received the absolute worst keratin treatment, it put me in a panic and I was so afraid my hair was ruined from how flat and greasy it was. I sat in my apartment not sure of what to do, and then I remembered the keratin treatment I got at Gatto in Spring 2017 and how great it turned out. I decided to message Christine for advice, and she took the time to reply and offer advice based off of what I told her happened, and suggested coming in for a consultation. I called the salon and made an appointment with Kodomu for a consultation and haircut. This appointment saved my hair! Kodomu was extremely knowledgeable and answered all of my million questions. He eased my anxiety, gave me a beautiful haircut, and the keratin situation is getting better every day from listening to his advice. I had my first appointment here with Stephanie on April 10 and I'm super impressed with the entire experience! The salon itself is in a great location, modern-looking, clean and has lots of natural light. The lovely guy who greeted me at the front was courteous and professional. They have a really cute *free* drink menu which includes tea, water, wine, and local beer. Stephanie seems to care about her clients and I was pleasantly surprised about how detail-oriented our consultation was. My hair had been repeatedly damaged by previous hair stylists and she was extremely careful not to dye over the damaged pieces (I didn't even know they were there because they were on the back of my head). She helped me choose a cut that was both flattering and easy to maintain. I hate doing my hair, getting cuts, etc but she made it a great experience. The color came out great! It took a while for the whole process but in the end I'm glad she took her time. Overall, the cut, full highlight and style came out to $250 which is a fair price for the quality and services. I've lived in Hoboken for over a year and struggled to find a salon that I loved - it got to a point where I stopped getting my hair done altogether. Thankfully I relentlessly searched Yelp and checked out Salon Gatto. The moment I stepped in the salon I was welcomed and pampered. They handed me a drink menu with coffee, teas, wine, etc. which are included in your appointment/service. I skipped on the wine for once and got the shaken iced tea - it was so refreshing especially on a humid 95 degree day. The hair wash was good not great, usually my favorite part. A new assistant did it but she didn't put enough elbow grease into the head massage. (I guess it's a personal preference but I love the deep massages and hot water where you basically fall asleep.) They use essential oils on their towels which completely relax you, then give you a back massage. I'm all for that! I was paired with Monique who was absolutely awesome. She explained to me how to better treat my hair and what their process was for hair coloring. I skipped on the balayage and just got a cut - as I mentioned I was nervous to have anyone touch my hair. I will definitely get the painting next time after my experience with Monique. I also love the cut regardless of how simple it was. I bought the Oribe leave-in conditioner spray ($35). I usually buy the L2 ($30) from my home salon but the Oribe is just that much better. The cut was $60. First time clients get 10% off. Also referring a friend gives both you and your friend 10%. They also have a rewards program of some sort where you come in X times to get a free cut (or something like that). I will definitely be back and I'm so happy I found this salon! read more

Stefanie is amazon! I have light blonde hair and wanted to find a stylist who understood how to lowlight blondes without it turning murky, too ashy or stripey. Stefanie delivered beyond any expectations I had! She gave me beautiful pale blonde highlights with the perfect amount of lowlights. I really appreciated the beverage list, head and neck massage and everything else that comes with this salon! 5 stars for Molly and the experience! I went in for a haircut and color. I had a few thoughts about what I wanted but nothing written in stone. Molly took the time to listen to all my needs and suggested something that would be a nice change from my natural color (black) but nothing too outrageous that I might have a hard time adjusting to. She did a fabulous job with the makeover. We ended up going for warm caramel tones balayage. I love love love the end result.
