He works tirelessly to ensure that all of my regrowth and grey hairs are expertly covered, leaving my hair looking vibrant and healthy. His triple process color treatments are always done to perfection and he takes the time to really understand what I'm looking for. Shane definitely did not disappoint! So glad to have him in our neighborhood. I booked a haircut appointment online via his website (super easy). His salon is sooo cute! I loved the plants, candles, and decor. Shane spent some time asking me about what I wanted in a haircut, getting the history of how I care for my hair, and carefully examined my hair before getting started. He literally is THE HAIR DOCTOR!!! He educated me along the way and I felt that he really just wanted me to know how to take care of my hair when I'm at home. I loved that! So we started with a hair wash to strip all of the residue left by the grocery store shampoo I have been using for years (oops). My hair felt so much lighter and smoother than it usually does when wet. He then went to work and did exactly what I had requested for: a little more volume and kept the length (of course he had to cut off the ends since it's been years since I've had a haircut). He gave me a blowout and when he was done, I almost teared up because I didn't know my hair could look so smooth and bouncy!!! He educated me on what ingredients to avoid in hair wash (sulfates and parabens), how to properly wash and condition my hair, and how often to get a haircut if I wanted to grow my hair. I really appreciated this because as someone not in the beauty industry, there are so many things I didn't know. I'm very hopeful that my hair will look so much better from Shane's teaching! Shane was recommended to me by my friend, so I traveled from Berkeley to come to San Bruno for him and will be continuing to do so because I've found my forever colorist as he is incredibly talented. I have Asian hair and he made me a blonde. Like an actual blonde in one day without breaking my hair. It's a combo of his talent, knowledge, and the quality products that he uses. He masterly gave me a combo of blonde highlights and a balayage. I honestly couldn't believe it. I was not expecting this and when I saw myself I thought, hot damn! Is this blonde babe, me? A month later and my hair is still healthy as heck because he knew what he was doing and he was using the good stuff (Kevin Murphy) to color my hair. Besides his talent, he is such a beautiful soul. This review has been long overdue (4-5 months) honestly. Back in October was my first time getting my hair retouched by Shane and boy did it look a whole lot better than what I had from my last stylist. He got the color, texture, and vibe on the spot! Compared to my last stylist, he made sure that I wouldn't get any signs of brassiness and that my hair color would fade nicely. Which it did. Like many residents of our modern world I tend to engage with businesses and service providers in a largely transactional, transitory manner. I would like to be one of those people with a mechanic, a butcher, a tailor, a rare books appraiser, but I don't even have a regular physician. However, I have always had a regular barber. I met my first barber, a part time horse broker in Appalachia, at the age of 18. He gave me my first decent haircut and I met the woman who would become my wife a month later. This can be no mere coincidence. Since then, whenever I moved to a new town I was deliberate in finding and sticking with a quality barber who knew my head and could refine my cut over time. When I moved to San Francisco, I bounced between mediocre barbers until I found Shane about five years and three establishments ago. I consider Shane a friend and trusted ally. When I sit in the chair, we get right to work. I follow him everywhere, now to his own establishment. I showed up late to the appointment before my wedding but he got me looking great in 20 minutes. About once a year, I get a cut from some other barber or stylist for reasons of convenience. I always regret it. I had my first haircut/style with with Shane at his amazing new salon in Portola. I have to say not only is he a very nice guy easy to work with but he also gave me the best haircut I've had in 10 years. I've been wearing short hair for probably the last 15 years and decided to let it grow out. He found a way to deal with my three cowlicks as well as style it perfectly for a grow out. I have really stick straight hair and I've been told it's quite hard to do this with but Shane found a way to masterfully blend a very bad haircut from four weeks ago into something perfect right now.
