I loved how he cut my hair when I first met him, so I knew I had to go back to him! He did a great job refreshing my layers and I love the partial balayage that added an extra dimension to my hair. He's great at listening to what you want and educating you on what's possible. I love that he put so much effort into teaching me how to keep my hair healthy. Today I was met with full-on hostility and gross unprofessionalism at Salon Riviera. It used to be a lovely place to go for a respite and for relaxation while you got your hair or nails done--a place to decompress. No more. Don't let the fancy facade and elegant interior fool you. You will only be comfortable here if you accept the owner Victoria's (?) two dogs in your face and other dogs in the salon. The owners' run unleashed, barking at customers or just barking, up, down, and around the salon. They will approach you whether you want them to or not. The owner, upon being politely asked, will not only refuse to protect her customers--she will become contemptuous and angry if you dare even politely request that she keep her dogs from you. This morning the salon was a chaotic circus. All you have to do is watch any "judge" show on t.v. to know that refusing to be thoughtful of clients, ignoring basic human kindness by being deliberate discourteous to another human being--coupled with the unbelievable arrogance of forcing your pets on strangers-- often leads to legal liability. It is not only customer-unfriendly but also legally foolhardy, this from one who knows. Don't get me wrong--the dogs themselves are cute as buttons. But when a customer asks an owner to please keep them at bay, and the owner instead does the opposite just to "show you," the problem is the owner, not her dogs. They don't belong running around in a salon. I suggest the owner run a pet-care grooming salon, not one which caters to humans. read more

She knows what would look good on you and she has the ability to make it happen! Be ready to have your expectations not only met but blown into a stylish coiffure. I knew that I wanted balayage but I didn't know what spectrum of the hair color wheel to go. Elicia was able to figure out that the red already in my hair was clashing with the red undertones in my skin making me look constantly flushed. Kinda hurt (I love red) but I love looking magazine worthy. So she expertly gave my roots a natural color and did the balayage. She also toned my hair to take out the red. So what usually would have taken multiple appointments, Elicia managed this all in one. During the process she told me about what she was doing and how I can better care for my hair. She also deep conditioned my ends because there was a lot of bleaching action going on. My hair came out amazing and super soft. I was in love! She's a pleasure to be around. She's great to talk to and has great vibes. I love my results and have been getting compliment after compliment. I came here to get my hair done for a friends wedding along with my sister. In truth they did a wonderful up do for my sister. Mine on the other hand was simple- wash, blowdry and style somehow.. Of course all i ended up with was curls, but I was fine with it. The kicker for me is that I have long hair, which i do not cut for religious reasons. i told the hairdresser this, and she was surprised, but still throughout kept commenting how she would simply just LOVE to cut my hair. Pretty disrespectful if you ask me. She kept saying how she would LOVE to trim it.. which scared me that she would actually do so. That totally killed my experience there.. So it has been a month since I got my haircut. My cut is a short A-Line and it still looks great. I have fine thin hair so finding the right stylist for this is important to me. When I first called I asked from someone great with short hair and the receptionist recommended Kristel. I was on vacation so they got me in pre-lunch. Kristel was very professional and awesome, we talked for a few minutes about exactly what I wanted, she offered me something to drink and we got started. I am an internationally published model and have been coming to salon riviera for YEARS and have had just an amazing experience with all of their staff! Not only located in the heart of the riviera village next to lots of amazing restaurants and shopping, it is two blocks from the beach and conveniently priced! When I first started coming here I was seeing April Heath who was amazing and then moved away. When I moved back to california I started wearing extensions and I started to see the owner VICTORIA who is simply AMAZING at everything she does. Victoria has been a life saver. Since I model she has been able to change my hair color/cut as needed, add length with extensions as needed, and one time i came in with a REALLY BAD HAIR COLOR JOB from a hair shoot that i did and she SAVED MY HAIR. She was able to take the color out, fix it, deep condition it and make it look amazing again. She has been doing my hair now for YEARS. (color, highlight, toner, brazlian blowout, and occasionally extensions). I love the fact that they do nails, facials, tanning, EVERYTHING here. I've tried and loved it all. Not to mention they sell makeup and beauty products and ALWAYS have blowout sales on their merchandise. They always have their magazines perfectly and neatly stacked in front of you so you have something to do and there is a beverage station with fresh coffee and tea and sometimes VICTORIA puts out little goodies and snacks. Salon Riviera is convenient for booking/cancelling (withing 48hours) appointments because not only do they have an online booking option, but their receptionists are always quick to answer and respond to your messages. I READ ONE OF THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS BELOW BY BARRY N. and I simply chuckled because I can tell that whoever he is or what his complaint is about... it SHOULD NOT BE ABOUT THE APPEARANCE OR CLEANLINESS of this salon. Sounds like he has a personal issue towards something or someone. Are you kidding me? This place is gorgeous! There is beautiful french furniture , there is a changing room, there is detailed wallpaper, VICTORIA is ALWAYS decorating and updating the salon, there are live orchids everywhere. Geez you should see how nuts she gets with halloween and xmas decorations. The styling stations are all very neatly arranged with large full length mirrors. The PORCELAIN TILING is so clean you can look down and see your reflection! They have updated modern bathrooms and sinks with mosaic backsplash on the wall. There is even a private room that she does my brazilian blow out in that has a large decorative mirroring and gold tiling and brown paint and granite countertop sinks. I started going to Kristel about a year ago. She does an amazing job with my color. A base that covers my grey and gorgeous blond highlights. My hair has never looked better. The other part I love is she is quick and efficient. She takes about half the time others have taken on my hair and the results are better! I've been to Riviera three times and each time left very happy with the service I received. Based on what I've seen and read, each customer's experience will vary and this is really just dependent on who is the stylist in question. So, as I said, I've been here three times and my girlfriend has been here 3-4 times. We both see Tammy and have only had great experiences. She is someone that we continually trust because she delivers great results every single time. For the service that I've received from Tammy, I would and have gladly paid more than charged. Tammy is an awesome hair-cutter, and always has great style in mind. I never give her specifics as to how I want my hair, but she always leaves me extremely happy with what I've received. Those times that she said "all done" and I wanted something else? She never disappoints.. really delivering "on the head" what I am looking for. She's a great conversationalist as well, and I have to believe she hasn't had a "bad day" in a looong time. Kudos to her and this establishment. I've been here 4 times, each time for a spray tan. Everyone there is super friendly, from the person who answered the phone to take my appointment, to the person who greeted me, to the person who I paid on the way out. I thought the salon looked very clean and modern. My first spray tan was AMAZING. I had Valerie (I think the owner?) spray me. It was my first time ever doing a spray tan (done by a human not a machine!) and she walked me through it step-by-step, showed me how to apply the lotion over my nails and in between my fingers and toes so they wouldn't get orangey and look fake. She gave me a disposable g-string to wear and since I was breastfeeding, she gave me cotton balls and tape to cover my nipples. She answered all of my questions patiently. I felt like she really took her time to get the color right, to deepen the color in certain areas of my body, to make it lighter in other areas. She was very professional too. I didn't once feel awkward or uncomfortable. I had to wait afterwards to dry and it took longer than I expected (maybe 20 minutes?) but they had a portable heater in there, which was nice. I also like how they told me over the phone to exfoliate beforehand and not to put any lotion on my body or makeup on my face. The tan itself was perfect - a beautiful sun-kissed color, totally even and lasted for awhile even though I was in a pool a lot (I was in Ojai for the weekend for a friend's 40th bday bash). I had many compliments - people thought I lost ten pounds! The cost is reasonable, $40. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because the 2nd and 3rd time I went in, it was not as even, not the beautiful sun-kissed look as much (more orangey). There were areas where I could actually see a few drip marks. But I had someone else, not Valerie. (I can't remember who - but they were different both times. And one of them yakked my ear off the whole time she was spraying me - I felt like she wasn't even paying attention to what she was doing!). So I guess the moral is to ask for the owner when you make your appointment!!! read more

I am a regular client at Salon Riviera. I see Susie for gel manicures, and seasonally, I see Sharon for spray tans. Susie does an amazing job with gel manicures. She has a variety of high quality gels (OPI, gelish, gelousy, etc.) and has such a great variety of colors. Not only that, she stands by her work. I'm a nail breaker, and although it doesn't happen often with Susie, she fixes the break for free as part of the guarantee of her work. Not only that, she works a ton so you can find a time with her that works in your schedule. She's so flexible and customer service oriented! Similarly, Sharon is both the salon manager and does spray tanning. They sell a package at SR of spray tans, and the deal seems to be continuous. Sharon is very customer service oriented as well and attentive to exactly what you are looking for. She is also very flexible with appointment times, and I get tons of compliments on her tans. My friends always marvel that my tans from Sharon last so long. I like that the tanning product she uses is natural and does not smell horrible. I was headed to a industry function and my hair needed to look outstanding. Well that other salon canceled my appointment on the day of the event.
