If that sounds dramatic, well, IT WAS. She listens to everything you have to say, asks a ton of questions, and makes sure she has a clear understanding of what you want and need before going to work. Her cuts are fantastic, but her color is even better. She has an instinctive talent for it. It's not inexpensive, but you will step out of there looking great. The haircut I got from Salon Riviera is acceptable, and not more. I have recently moved to the area, have short hair that hadn't been cut in 3 months because I didn't know where to go. I normally get a haircut every 5-6 weeks so my hair felt quite long, but my previous stylist did such a great job that even after 3 months my hair was okay. I was very disappointed in the experience from the start. When I spend this much on a haircut, I expect a nice shampoo and to be offered something to drink (water, coffee, something). The shampoo was okay, but forgettable. No one offered a thing to drink even though my stylist (the salon's owner) had her coffee at hand. But the main reason I won't return is that the stylist was confrontational. Perhaps she was having a bad day, but her attitude made me uncomfortable. She said she had no ideas for what to do with my hair if I wouldn't use product (my only stipulation) and didn't want to grow my hair out a few more inches (and my hair was already much longer than usual since it hadn't been cut in 3 months). She told me that I was clearly "stuck in what I wanted" even though I told her several times that she could do whatever she thought would look good on me. Kristel has been my funny fabulous hairdresser for the past four years and she has done nothing but give me amazing hair. My hair is long, thick, and wavy and hairdressers have been afraid to cut the looks I have wanted. Laura is a gem! Salon Riviera is in a beautiful little area of Redondo Beach. The inside of the salon is pristine, charming, and relaxing. I have had only lovely experiences in this salon. I just got home from getting my hair cut at Salon Riviera by Hayley. I haven't had my hair cut in over a year due to the fact that the last 3 stylists I have gone to have butchered my hair to no end. Today that was not the fact. I am getting married in 2 weeks and so this hair cut was pretty important as I really don't want to walk down the aisle with awful hair. Hayley did such an amazing job! I have been going to this salon a couple of years now and just wanted to let people know what a great place it is! I originally went in for hair extensions to replace the terrible hair cut I had received in Manhattan Beach (a "trim" that went very wrong). Not only did Victoria give me an amazing natural look I kept for the next year and a half while my hair grew out, she totally respected the entire process and to this day always listens to me and respects my wishes about color and small trims to keep my locks long and beautiful. I just moved to the area and was long overdue for a hair cut and highlights. I got my partial highlight done by Victoria and she did a wonderful job. It looks very natural and I received many compliments. I was very late for the appointment so she had to really rush but the highlights still came out great. I then got my cut done by Danielle. SUPER clean salon! However, I had to return with cash because they don't let you leave your tip on your credit card. I chose Salon Riviera for my wedding party because this location was super close to the venue, and because my initial visit to the salon felt very good (everyone was helpful, sweet, etc.) and I liked how my hair trial went. However, the actual day-of appointment wasn't great. First, the good: The salon was very accommodating by opening up on a Sunday for us, and allowing us to come in and kind of make the space our own. They played great music for us, allowed us to bring in food and champagne (providing glasses for us!). It was obvious that they wanted this appointment to be special for us, and I really appreciated that. Our stylist was friendly and sweet. I also think everyone, for the most part, left feeling good about how their hair looked, although mine was not really done how I requested. But hey. Nothing is perfect at a wedding, and my hair, despite not being what I wanted was still good, and the whole day was a blast. :) But then, the bad: Because it was a Sunday, a typical day off for the salon, only one stylist would be taking care of us during our appointment. I felt badly about that because there were six of us and that's a lot of work, but ultimately that wasn't up to me. The problem was that she was late, so we started late, and then she didn't remember the schedule for the day. Because she thought we were done at 3:00, and not 2:00 as we had pre-planned, she was taking her time with the styles, and we got really behind schedule, which added a lot of stress to the other pre-ceremony things that we had to do. Anyone who's planned a wedding (or been in a wedding, or anywhere near a wedding) knows that the timeline is really important because before the ceremony, my bridal party needed to get dressed, set up the ceremony decor, and set up the reception ballroom decor. I ended up leaving with a couple bridesmaids to get the venue, while others were still waiting to get their hair finished. My amazing girls DID get everything done, but if we had just followed the timeline, it would've been fine. I'd suggest calling a few times before the appointment to confirm so this doesn't happen to you. As mentioned above, my hair really wasn't as I envisioned it, and this happened with my girls as well. Everyone looked great, and I can't stress that enough, but it just didn't seem like our communication was on par. I fully understand that when someone brings a photo to the salon that the exact style won't be the same because everyone's hair is different, but that really wasn't the problem. It was like, "hey, here's this thing I want" and the stylist kind of did her own thing with vague reference to our requests. Again, everyone looked great, and I appreciated all of the stylist's efforts, but it just seemed like there was a disconnect and disorganization from everything to start time, hair styles, and billing... However, the worst: I went in for a trial run of my style and paid full price. Not a problem. However, as this was the price I was told I'd pay on the actual day of the appointment, I was really frustrated when I got the bill and saw that it was higher. In fact, every single thing that I was quoted before the appointment was suddenly HIGHER on the actual appointment day. I was very clear when I made the appointment, and I showed pictures of hair styles the girls would want, and showed photos of various hair types and lengths my girls had so the stylist knew exactly what she'd be getting into, but everything from the hair styling, to hair blow out, to false lashes was suddenly higher on the big day, but what could I do at that point, hours before my wedding, halfway through our appointments? It wasn't that they charged more that day because they opened on a day off, because that extra amount had already been figured into my projected bill. There was a vague reference to not knowing how difficult some of our styles would be due to hair thickness, but she knew EXACTLY how my hair would be because she had already done it before! I ended up paying way more for everything than was initially projected, despite removing some services from the day's plan (like make up, due to lack of time). Something else that might be helpful to know ahead of time is that when you book the appointment, half of the bill amount for each service is due up front to confirm and hold your appointment, and the bill on the big day will not be broken down for everyone to split up. So overall, it seemed like a lot of miscommunication caused us some problems, some bigger than others. Because the stylist was wrong about the timeline, we got really behind schedule for the afternoon. Because of the miscommunication about hair styles, some girls left happier than others. And because the prices were suddenly raised on the day of our appointment, I was really, really frustrated. Altogether, I wouldn't recommend this salon for bridal hair. It was unorganized with a lot of miscommunication. read more

I read the yelp reviews before going and saw a couple that said the stylist was very rough or not professional. I assumed those were disgruntled or dramatic customers or whatever. So I went anyway. Omg, they were not professional at all. Left me at the dryer for longer than necessary while the stylist went to get a coffee. I'm talking over an hour. No magazines. Nothing. I swore she forgot about me. Then the other gal next to me was talking about her personal life and cursing up a storm while doing her customers hair. I'm talking way too personal. It was uncomfortable. Then when my gal finally got back to my hair, she was so rough. It actually hurt and I have a very tough head. I love getting my hair done usually and it's relaxing but this was awful. Pulled, not one bit gentle. Just rough. I asked for a balayage so I wouldn't have to maintain roots. They gave me full on streaky highlights from the roots down. Exactly what I asked not for. I didn't even know what to do since I explained what I wanted and showed a pic.... I mean I was very clear I didn't want roots. I wanted to brighten the bottom and tips of my hair... but when she started foiling, I was pretty sure she did something else but what do I know. I'm not the pro so I just let her do it and turns out, she didn't do what I asked for at all. Now roots will grow out and I have to maintain and get done again. I left so disappointed and waited a while to be sure I wasn't being "dramatic" but I feel the same way a month later. My hair is streaky highlighted. :( I would never go back and felt like I should write this review and help others not make the same mistake. For the record this is my first ever review on Yelp. I usually don't care about things and am pretty chill but I felt so passionate about my lack of respect and satisfaction from this salon that I felt obligated to share with others. read more

I feel so lucky that I was connected to Elicia during my walk-in. Fortunately for me, she had a last-minute cancellation and was able to take me that very moment! I had horrible color happening across my hair--my dark blonde roots were growing out and fading into a horrible copper color that was the result of a bad home dye job, and my light blonde ends were in desperate need of a tone. I love how fast she worked and how efficient she was. I just moved to the area a few months ago, and decided to take the advice of my fellow curly haired yelpers and made an appointment with Danielle June at Salon Riviera. So glad I did, because I am thrilled with my cut and color! As I mentioned, I am a curly haired girl and have had my fair share of truly horrific cuts over the years. In fact, prior to coming to Danielle I had been growing out a pretty bad hack job that I received from another stylist back in the summer. She sat me down and we discussed my current cut/color, what I liked about it, what I didn't, what I was looking for, etc... It was the first time in a very long time that I felt someone was truly listening to me (i.e.: Do not cut short choppy layers into this head of crazy curls!). I brought a couple of pictures of different looks that I was interested in, and she was honest enough to tell me what was going to work and what wasn't. How refreshing! A stylist that isn't afraid to tell her clients what she thinks! In the end we formed a game plan and she went to work on me. I should also mention that I am a new first time mommy, and was in desperate need of some pampering. I'm guessing she sensed that, because she totally delivered with a fabulous head and neck massage. AHHHHHHH! In the end I walked out of there feeling like a million bucks. I have been getting my hair done by Danielle June for 15 years (since my 8th grade graduation!) and simply believe she is the best. Even when I spent 4 years on the east coast for college, I would only get my hair cut or colored when I got home. Danielle is fantastic; a great person, and great at what she does. She has a passion for hair and is more of an artist than just a hair stylist. She truly listens to you when she asks 'okay, what are we doing today', and has never gotten my hair wrong. We've been through many styles together: highlights, side bangs, darkenings, bob cut, even pink/maroon highlights during college. My sister started going to Danielle several years ago and when she comes to visit from Portland she'll only see Danielle. I have followed Danielle as she changed salons a few times, and I really really like the ambiance at Salon Riviera.
