I was in the area in desperate need of getting my eyebrows threaded. It has been a long time coming. My previous experience left me with uneven eyebrows due to dashing into a random salon in another area. I put off coming to the city due to time conflicts. I took advantage of a day off and set to go to my regular place. To my disappointment, this location closed down (queue tears)!!!! On my way back to the train station, I passed Salon Vollo. I decided to try my luck and walk in. They graciously welcomed me in with good spirits. Alex and Ira are truly nice people! So glad I came here. Ira shaped my eyebrows like no other. She was precise with her work and made sure to even out my eyebrows after I told her about my horrible experience. The price is a bit on the higher side, but then again what isn't in Manhattan? Wow - definitely should have hit up their yelp page prior to stopping in for a manicure. I went in for gel and was convinced to go for a powder; which was fine with me. I requested a black v-french on the nails and the tech said she knew what she was doing. Unfortunately, she did not. I have painted straighter, cleaner french tips on myself. Within five days of my service one of my nails lifted. I returned and a different tech was able to replace the nails (free of charge). She even said the nails were not done well or correct! The single nail the second tech did for me was smoother, and much nicer looking than my others. I recommend the staff all maintain an even skill set. The team here was nice and accommodating; however, I would avoid them for any manicure services. read more

Stopped in for a quick eyebrow wax as a walk-in, and left feeling renewed, with a cut, blowout, and eyebrow wax, all very quickly, for $80! Wow! This service would prob be like $300 at one of my regular spots!! It worked out perfectly, as I had washed my hair in the shower in the morning, and pulled it back wet, as I was in a rush. Therefore, my hair was still wet. The woman re-wet it and did a conditioning prior to trimming me up. Also, first time I ever had an orthodox Jewish woman do my hair, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I made an appointment for a gel manicure at Salon Vollo, arriving on time at 6:15. One of the employees started to soak off the polish but then asked me to go sit in the back corner where I watch two employees empty the trash... I told them I had an appointment so didn't have a lot of time. But still 25 minutes later I was finally helped- a women yelling "come here" from the front of the store. I ended up leaving without even having my nails painted, I wouldn't give them a dime over the soak off charge. Overall very rude, not a pleasant environment and no apology for the poor service. read more

I have never written a review but had to here. Went to get an eyebrow threading here after hearing great things and researching and seeing great reviews. Not only was it TWENTY dollars for eyebrow and lip threading when you can get both for $12 on any corner in NYC, the woman completely botched my eyebrows. They are so uneven that they start and end at different lengths, levels, everything. They are so uneven. I mentioned that very politely when she handed me a mirror to look and the woman said, "that's how your eyebrows grow".......I have been getting my eyebrows threaded for TEN years and they have never been so uneven - they do not GROW that way. It will take weeks/months to grow them back in order to have them redone and looking okay. She took too much off the top of one eyebrow and off the bottom of the other so they are so uneven and in straight lines...Just horrible. read more

Got the groupon deal and I've been pretty satisfied so far with their service. Although, I wish they would put all their polishes in the same area so I didnt have to walk to where they kept the hand towels. First time there, Ira did a very nice job but could have been a little more gentle with my cuticles. Second time, the girl who serviced me filed some of my nails crooked, she happily fixed most of them when I asked. Got a very carefully conducted pedicure and manicure about two weeks ago and the pedicure is holding strong. The nails on my hand are very weak from acrylics and she took extra care to get them on the road to normalcy. The price is good, especially for a midtown salon. I generally go to very cheap LES places and I would come back here because the service was that good for not much more money. read more

I saw this place on lifebooker and was very tempted by $17.50 for full leg wax. I called them up and was able to book the appointment of the day. When I booked the appointment I asked if I could also have a simple bikini line added on and they quoted me $25 total, which I though was a bargain. There salon itself is welcoming, but waxing is done in the small room at the back with dirty pink walls. I did not really expect a spa for $25, but wax on walls is not the best. Therapist was friendly, wax seemed to be of good quality. I was not a big fan of her waxing technique though - she wrapped the stips all around my leg and pulled with considerable strength without holding the skin - whilst efficient and quick, not sure that is the best techmique and it is the first time I had experienced this technique. I was also not a fan of being doused in baby oil at the end, which was then wiped off with hot towel (irritated skin+oil+hot towel???). When it came to paying - I was charged $37 with explanation that therapist said it will be $12 extra and they also asked for a cash tip. I didn't feel like arguing so paid and left no tip. Needed a simple, one color manicure before my first big day of work at 10AM next door. The hours say 8AM on weekdays and that walkins are welcome. I get there at 8:50 and they scoff and the three people sitting down chatting, obviously bored, tell me that nails aren't done until 10. This is nowhere on the website. So I went here on a Groupon and overall had a great experience. My haircut and blow out came out really great. The deep conditioning treatment also helped. The only thing that I can say I wasn't a major fan of was that there was a lot of talking in another language be it among staff or with customers and as someone who did not speak whatever language it was (Russian maybe?), I was a little uncomfortable and felt like an outsider to be honest. Absolutely horrific experience. If i could rate this zero stars I would. I had an appointment and ended up waiting 15 minutes because there was only 2 nails stations. The salon was extremely dirty and the workers were unprofessional. They were eating fish with their hands on the nail table next to me while I was getting my nails done. The woman doing my nails told me that my eyebrows looked terrible and that i "needed" to get them waxed immediately. She rushed to finished my nails and declined my request for 3 coats because she said it wont chip ( but 2 days later the entire gel peeled off) The equipment didn't look clean either. In all my experiences I've been in and out within an hour or less which is perfect for a quick work break. I got my hair cut here this past week because I needed a quick trim... huge mistake. I had all one length about 2 inches below my shoulders angled slightly to the front... I figured who could mess up my hair for a simple trim? I sat in the chair and he asked what I wanted.. (side note--To be honest when I sat down, he asked who colors my hair because I should get it blonder. At that moment I should have walked right out because looking back it's obvious they didn't know what they were talking about---I'm a natural red head..no one colors my hair) Anyway, i stated 3 things that I wanted.. no layers, don't frame my face and keep the length. He chopped in layers saying it would be great, framed my face and took off 3" .. I literally stopped him and said what are you doing this isn't what I wanted but he continued to hack away telling me I needed it, it will be great....my hair is terrible. Not even close to what I wanted. The layers on the top are SO short. I can no longer put it in a ponytail. I was finally able to grow my layers out from years ago and now I have the strangest layering in my hair--almost a long thick bang in the front and the bottom flips out now. I'm so incredibly unhappy... it's a typical frumpy shoulder length now .. instead of edgy/fresh 27 year old it makes me look like a middle aged women circa 2003 bad version of rachel from friends haircut.
