UPDATE: Since my below review Eva has updated her salon and done a lot with it! It is much more organized and professional. She offers professional products and an even wider array of services. I will say there are occasional scheduling kinks that need to be ironed out, however still coming back after 3 years!! __________________________________________________________________________ First tried this place with the Groupon. I was a skeptical as I'm a freak about my hair and had never heard first-hand of anyone that tried this place. I must admit it's aesthetic vibes do not give off a good feeling. It's small, cluttered, a bit disorganized, and chaotic. HOWEVER, I took a chance and had my hair colored by Eva. I am go glad I did! Eva took me from a pretty dark brown to blonde (ugh, even thinking back on the fact that I took a chance on this gives me the shivers but it's done!) and trimmed my short hair cut, one that I was not happy with at the last salon I went to. All in all I was very happy with my results. It was a subtle change, just as I requested. I told her I wanted a more golden tone and not ashy, which she did well. She worked well off my previous haircut when she trimmed it and gave me a great blowout! I went back for the second time a little over a month ago and she did an even better job this time!! I told her I need another trim and also I wanted to do a partial this time (first time was full) and move even lighter. Again, I was nervous, hoping I didn't have beginner's luck, but she did a SERIOUSLY awesome job. I've been getting my hair done since I was 14, I've had great, I've had horrible. This lady gets the job done at a price you just CANNOT beat. I always spend under $100 with short hair and either full or partial highlights. Yes, you are sacrificing a graceful ambiance but if you're willing to forego that for a good cut and color with Eva then give them a call! UPDATE: I also have Eva thread and color my eyebrows and she does a great job! I have had my eyebrows dyed for many years (henna, hair color, etc.) and I am definitely satisfied with her work. I've had my hair highlighted and cut there, and my daughter just got Ombre coloring done. Each time we've been there, we've used a Groupon. They did a reasonably nice job each time. However, beware, it's kind of expensive if you get something done beyond the scope of the Groupon. My daughter's hair wound up costing $150 - not the price I'd expect to pay at a salon like L and E - maybe a more nicely decorated salon in Lincoln Park or Bucktown, but not a small, cluttered and kind of dingy salon on the edge of Ravenswood. Oh, and if you make an appointment, be prepared to wait past your allotted time, as they take walk ins. We waited about 20 minutes past my daughter's appointment time, and they only talked to us then because I needed to find out the cost and pay for my daughter's hair before I left. She wound up waiting another 15 minutes before they started on her - 35 minutes after the appointment time. The people there do seem to be nice - however, with so many other options available, it will be a while before we're back. read more

I have been to many different salons including Aveda and other high end places in the city that do a terrific job for a pretty penny. It usually takes 2.5+ hours and costs $150+. I tried this salon with a Groupon and was a little hesitant (because you never know what you're going to get with a Groupon) but the other yelp reviews were great, it was in my neighborhood and it was an unbeatable deal so I took a chance and am so glad I did. Eva did a fabulous job on my highlights and haircut. (The same process you get at any high-end salon in less then two hours.) I could not be happier. This is a small family-owned salon and no, there are no fancy bells and whistles but if you are looking for friendly service, a great cut and color for a decent price and to support local small businesses (aka hard-working people), you can trust that you will walk away with all of that. Since I moved to Chicago two years ago, I've had such a tough time finding stylists who do a good job on curly hair. I tried all sorts of expensive salons and came away with mediocre haircuts. The stylist at L&E Salon was absolutely fantastic! She paid really close attention to my hair and to what I asked her to do with it (she checked in with me several times, showing me how much she would take off before she started snipping), and the results were great. This is, hands down, the best haircut I've had in years, and I'm excited to go back. read more

I went for two services which was a hair cut and highlights. My hair was cut by Eva (who is really nice) I think she did a great job on the cut and $20 was not bad price. As for my highlights, it was done by David who is such a sweetheart. He did an amazing job on my hair. Everything I had ask for which was blond highlights with a base of ash brown. I will come back again and highly recommend other girls who want their highlights done, go to David. Plus they have coupons that you can use towards your next service which is a big plus. read more

L&E Salon is very unassuming looking, but I received such fantastic service there! I have very curly hair (type 3C) and a lot of hairdressers have been nervous about dealing with my hair. Eva was knowledgeable and comfortable with my hair. I received a wash and press. I've been told that this is the best my hair has ever looked straightened! I also got my eyebrows threaded by Eva. She did a really good job, my eyebrows look natural but neat. I'm so pleased with my experience at L&E Salon. read more

I have been going to Eva for years now and always walk out happy. Never have to explain my haircut and consistent time and time again. I also bring my daughter here for haircuts and also for Eva to braid her hair for special occasions. People ALWAYS ask where she had it done and she loves it. OH and she is only 3. Ten dollar haircut and five to ten for braiding depending on the style. Open until 8pm and even open on Sundays as we all know weeks can be hectic. Love L & E read more

I live around the area and i had to try this new L and E Salon locate on Dame Ave. I had the best service from Lidia when I was picking the color and she also recommend me a nice cut for my hair that was damaged. I love the style and she was right my hair is growing nice and healthy now since that cut. I would like to recommend this place to everybody the prices are in your budget and affordable for everybody. I love this place and i will make it my favorite. read more

Eva has been cutting my hair for several years now and she always does an AMAZING job. Whether I'm getting a super short cut or letting it grow out, she always knows what to do and I leave with a cute cut and color for a reasonable price. Waxing is also available for a good price. This is a no frills kid-friendly place so don't walk in expecting a spa experience but Eva has always been accommodating and a great stylist. Highly recommend! read more

PIXIE ALLERT!!!! If you are a pixie girl like me, a razor cut is the only way way to cut a pixie! Eva is very skilled with a razor and your cut looks sensational for 6 weeks no problem. The salon is basic and does not have all the bells and whistle's of major salons however for the superior cut that I received from Eva, and have been for over 6 years & won't go anywhere else!
