I wanted to love this place so much. My coworkers seem to rave about it a lot. I made the drive to try this place. We ordered the white pizza, spaghetti pizza, ziti pizza, and a supreme. As well, we had garlic knots, limoncello cake, and a pistachio cake. I definitely think the food was decent, but for my taste buds-- it just didn't hit the spot for me. I didn't like the white pizza at all. The two pasta ones were okay but I wouldn't order them again, mostly because the heaviness didn't seem worth the calories in my opinion. However, I would definitely eat the supreme pizza and garlic knots again if I happen to return. The limoncello cake was a little on the dry side but the pistachio cake was very delicious. To be fair, pizza isn't my go to. So it mostly has to be craveworthy for me (and I tend to be a woodfired girl). Overall, my coworkers do love it. The staff was amazing and super friendly. The wait was quick. I'd go again if a friend wanted to return but mostly likely wouldn't be a solo venture for me. read more

It crushes me to do an updated review on this place. It has been one of my go to restaurants since I moved to Gilbert 8 plus years ago. I ordered a pepperoni lover pizza, double pepperoni with extra cheese supposedly. If that was double pepperoni on the pizza, it was pretty unimpressive. The pizza was undercooked and actually bent in half when I picked a piece up. Another HUGE pet peeve of mine is when pizza slices are cut like the person cutting it was blindfolded. There were some teenie tiny pieces and some really big pieces. The baked ziti calzone was good. I ordered online. For some reason ordering carryout on line versus calling in seem to confuse this place. Ordering on line, you need to give them your phone number, not your name. The online order was supposed to be ready between 6 pm and 6:11 pm. I got there around 6:05 pm. I got my order at 6:30 pm. Here is what I think happened. Sal expanded his restaurant, but didn't expand his kitchen. He needs more oven space. Another huge problem is when he expanded he didn't realize there weren't enough parking spots. We reviewed Sal's over 3 years ago and gave them a 5-star rating. Unfortunately we had to take away a couple stars after yesterday's visit. We went for lunch and felt put off when the host said they couldn't seat us for 20 minutes - seating area was virtually empty. We were welcomed to sit in the bar area which we did. Most notably the pizza was not as we remembered it. Uneventful in taste and service just average. We're hoping we just came on a bad day, because we really liked Sal's from our initial trip 3 years back. Sunday afternoon @4pm and there was a 30 minute wait. Must be good!? My family raved about Sal's and wanted me to try it out. Being a 1st timer I was pleasantly surprised. We sat in a booth by the bar, it was clean and a great spot to watch sports on their TV screens. They also have outdoor seating that can accomodate large parties. We ordered the fried zucchini and meatball appetizers which were pretty good and clearly homemade. An order of fried raviolis came out by mistake and we said we didn't order them & realized it was an error but they said it was now complimentary, so we had the yummy raviolis (Thanks Anna & John). Our sausage, mushroom & pepp pizza was good. But will definitely try one of their specialty pizza next time. Server was attentive and nice. Me and my kiddos LOVE Sal's! We often stop here on our way home from church for lunch. The pizza is so stinking good and larger than life slices for super reasonable prices! And the staff is always so pleasant and helpful and good w all of their service. Did I mention their garlic knots are to drool for?!?! OBSESSED!!!! First off when you walk in you are greeting by so many kind servers and host! Everyone says hi and it feels like a family. When you enter you smell all the delicious bread and garlic. The waiting room is a little small, but cozy! Tonight it was only about a 20 minute wait for us, but we didn't mind at all because they have menus at the front you can look at while you wait. The menu is huge and has so many options. We spent 20 minutes looking at each item. They also have a dessert case right at the front and the pieces of cake and cheesecake are huge!! They are about 10$ a slice so we decided to sit this dessert one out but I'm still drooling over the look of the pieces. We were greeted by a super kind server; I believe his name was Robert. We were stuck between two types of pizza but he told us we could easily get both! Which was super amazing to us! We are going to have left overs for days! The pizza is sooo delicious and flavorful! The pieces are huge and they do not skimp on the toppings. We decided to do the medium supreme and baked zita pizza ($27) We ordered the ravioli appetizer (10.49$) and it was so yummy! The sauce was the best part!! We also ordered the garlic knots (4.75$) ; they have a nice garlic flavorful but they were a little dry. I never leave reviews but this place is so amazing I had to share. Went for the first time on Sunday and got pizza. It was amazing and just a good ol New York slice. I loved all the options! Then because it that good I went back today (Tuesday) and got the pasta! which was INNSSSANNNNEEEE!! So so good! They were so accommodating of me requesting non-alcoholic drinks. Came here for date night and we had a great time! We ordered the burrata bruschetta, margherita pizza, and the chicken and eggplant parmigiana and also got side salads. The side salads were delivered first, and I can honestly say I've never had such a big side salad. Like, whoa. Same with the bruschetta, taller than my mouth. Food felt like it was a bit on the pricy side, but we had leftovers of everything, and have already had a meal each of leftovers, and still have at least one meal each left, so it was totally worth the price. The service overall was quick and efficient, and our server very kindly helped us box up our food at the end, saving us what would've probably been a bit of a mess. Maybe it's all in my head, but something about this food just tasted "east coast" to me. That's not to say that this necessarily tastes like in New York, but there's something different about NY-style pizza on the west coast compared to the east coast. Don't know what it is, but my partner and I both felt that homey feeling here at Sal's. Not necessarily the most jaw-dropping meal, but one that warms the soul. We will definitely be back! read more

We had a positive experience at Sal's. Have heard good things and finally decided to give it a try. It was a week night so it wasn't overly crowded. We were greeted pretty quickly upon entering and told to grab the table of our choice. A server came over soon after and she was friendly and helpful. I've heard of Sal's many times, finally had to try it. We arrived on a Thursday night around 7:30, and there was a 25 minute wait. It's a large, open, busy restaurant, not too loud but definitely not intimate. We ordered a thick crust Supreme pizza. The toppings were tasty and plentiful. The crust was so thick, the outside edges would up burned to ensure the center was cooked. I enjoyed it overall, but I won't order a thick crust again. 11/25/23: stopped in an early Saturday evening for what I hoped would be good food. It was not good. IT WAS EXCELLENT! There were three of us dining and we all thoroughly enjoyed everything that was ordered. Our server, Robert, was on top of his game. He came to the table quickly, and kept returning time and time again, asking how we were, filling drinks, etc. He was friendly, polite, and did a fantastic job. The restaurant was larger than it looked from the outside. The parking in its complex was a bit small, but I saw parking on the opposite side of their driveway. We arrived around 4:30 and the place was already doing a steady amount of business. When we left, there was quite a hefty amount of people waiting to be seated. From appetizers to pizza to pasta, everything was hot and flavorful. Damn it, we should have gotten dessert. Ha! That's all right, we'll get it next time. I've lived here for 5 years and my family has always loved Sal's Pizza because it's like New York's. My youngest son just moved here from NY and I bragged about how good the pizza is and ordered one. He went and picked it up. I ordered Italian sausage and onion. It looked like a sausage pizza that had come out of the oven and someone cut up an onion and had thrown it on top. RAW ONION! A pizza place with great daily deals and tasty food. Both of their appetizers that I tried were very good. The bruschetta was a standout but the garlic knots weren't too far behind either. The baked ziti pizza is very heavy and filling. It's definitely a pizza to try if it looks interesting. I enjoyed it but couldn't eat too much in one sitting. The drunken grandpa with the sausage added as per the servers recommendation was excellent. The pizza is on the greasier side for pizza but that is what you expect from New York style. The sauce, dough, and the toppings were all great. I'd definitely come back to try different combinations and sauces. Overall a nice restaurant with great service and food.
