My husband had Chili Con Carne and I had Chili Verde. Serving size were pretty big. Though food could have been more seasoned. The staff were excellent. I have been a Sal's Madera Customer since 2009, when we moved to Madera. My husband has been a customer, consumer, patron, lover of Sal's in Selma (where he is from) since the 1960's. The Sal's in Madera has always been hit or miss, good and bad, missing items, etc. since coming to Madera. Usually we can call Sal's Madera and get our missing items or have our order fixed. I really wanted to share, on Yelp, the fact that the Guacamole with my order is not green as it should be...black guacamole...totally unacceptable! Is the guacamole unrefrigerated!?!? My husband walked in to order 2 tacos and a soda. He paid for his TWO TACOS AND SODA. As he waited not only was he stared down by other customers but employees too. He waited 10 mins. No soda or no tacos and he was never checked on to make sure how he was doing. And all of this was ordered to go which u think they would hurry up a little more. Well no!!! After about 5-10 more minutes of feeling akward he just walked out. Yes no drink and no tacos. How hard was it to make 2 tacos? Mind you they were not busy maybe 4-5 other customers. Just because my husband was wearing a plain shirt with a baseball hat does not make him a bad person or need for people to judge. My husband is not one to complain and for him to complain is not right. Never well we go here. They just stole over 10bucks by not providing the service my husband paid for. Absolutely the best Mexican food in the valley. We live near Modesto and have no local comparison. Can't wait to be back the area. Ate there twice in the past 60 days. It's the best ever. So, I decided to stop at this restaurant because I usually don't eat Mexican food because their food has no flavor. Anyway, I got my coworker his burrito and I tried it and their chicken has no flavor at all as well as their beans. I got quesadilla and their food was greasy as hell. Their price is overpriced and it's not worth going there ever again. They told me guacamole comes with my quesadilla and it didn't come with it but they charged me. Went in w/the family after hearing good things about this place. Unfortunately it didn't go so well I ordered the pork chop never got it after placing the order more than 20 mins went by when they finally came out to tell me the pork chop would take too long because it had to be thawed first. I don't know how we weren't informed right off the get go or 5 mins hell even 10 mins after ordering not 20 plus mins. So I just changed my order on the fly to the carne asada plate without a menu in front me. Food came out a bit after. Waitress states my wife's plate is really hot to not touch it proceeds to place it in front of my 2 yo not in front my wife which she made room so it could be placed away from the child. My 2 yo reached luckily it was a quick touch and realized it was hot as my wife was moving it waitress says" I said it was hot". Mmm next time don't put a hot plate for an adult in front of a child as if it was for them. Carne asada was pretty dry nothing special about it rice and beans were forgettable unfortunately. Stayed overnight in Madera and since I'm always up for a good Mexican meal, I zoned in on Sal's. Saw the reviews and was immediately interested as I love family restaurants. The chips and salsa are always my first indicator of the meal to come. I was not disappointed! Chips seemed baked...they were light with no grease to be seen. Salsa was chunky and spicy, just as it should be!! Chicken soup was made fresh and although salty, was scrumptious. The combo plate (shrimp taco/chicken enchilada) was hearty...survey says - I'll be back!! Also, I'd be remiss not to mention the wait staff was friendly and timely. I have eaten at Sal's Mexican Restaurants for years and their food has always been delicious. But today I ordered Menudo for brunch and it was "AWFUL". Not Edible!! It was chewy! The menudo was under cooked!!!. I threw it out! I thought about calling and speaking to the manager. But I decided to post on YELP. Maybe next time the cook will taste test his under cooked menudo before selling it to customers!!! read more

Just driving through Madera on the way to Sacramento and found this wonderful Mexican Restaurant. All the five star ratings you see are justified! The service was great and the food was wonderful. I had cheese enchiladas and wow, fabulous!! More cheese than I've ever seen in an enchilada. Carne asada burrito too. The waitress even filled to-go cups with soda for the rest of our trip.
