Some of the best pizza I've had in a while. Sal's special was a excellent choice. Loved the thin crispy crust. Just enough cheese and sauce. I like my cheese slightly browned and they cooked it to perfection without any special instructions. I like that the toppings were all bite size and evenly distributed so each bite had everything in it. The chicken wings are also top notch. Super crispy and juicy. I'm glad we did sauce on the side so we could do them up to each person's liking plus they tasted great just on their own. Salad was crisp and fresh. Large size was perfect amount for 4 people to share. Great value for all the food we enjoyed. The service was fast and friendly. Place filled me with nostalgia and felt good to enjoy a family dinner somewhere that's been a part of the community for so long. We will definitely be back! read more

Sal's has been one of our favorite pizzas, but our last order didn't hit the mark. We always order double mushrooms sausage pie cut. The amount of mushrooms wasn't even a regular order. I've previously opined about the original Sal's Pizza location, an unassuming walk-in/delivery (only) storefront on the backside of a strip mall in Algonquin, IL. If you read that piece, you'll remember I found no fault with their pizza, in fact, for my personal tastes, I found it to be superb. This review is about Sal's Pizza newer location in Huntley, IL, which has a full menu, seating, full-service bar as well as video gaming area. I had been in this joint under its previous ownership, and I really can't even remember the name or how I felt about the product. But it's of no consequence now that Sal's has landed here. It's the same great menu as Sal's in Algonquin, with pizza, sandwiches, dinner entrees, including pasta and chicken. I gotta say again, I love Sal's Pizza. I've tried so many different places in the NW burbs, and disappointment after disappointment, I'm back to Sal's. And while carryout and delivery is fine, it's nice to take a little drive to Huntley and have a relaxing dine-in experience with the same great product. Sal's thin crust is flaky around the rim, and chewy as you work your way in, just the way it should be. Sauce is flavorful, on the thicker side, yet not overpowering. I love their sausage, don't know where they get it, but it's large 'hand-pulled' chunks of flavorful, seasoned pork, not those pre-cooked nuggets so many chains used. Finally, their cheese blend is applied in very liberal quantities, has great flavor, melt-quality, and pull. You're going to experience that ultimate pizza cheese experience where you lift a slice and see those delicious stretches of cheese. To me, that's living. Especially when you do that and the toppings don't end up falling into the pan. It's very important that each slice of pizza remains intact until it gets to your mouth, I say. Pies are cut into square slices, common in Chicago and the Upper Midwest, and sometimes referred to as a "tavern cut." Again, that's one of my ideals for pizza perfection. At the table, we also had the fried chicken and an order of onion rings. No complaints there. The coating on the chicken is crispy and flavorful. The rings are thin cut with a little cornmeal in the batter. Service was attentive. Didn't catch the waitresses name, she had a bit of (my thought) accent from somewhere in the British isles. In any case, she was attentive without being overbearing. Good show, Sal's. Of course, we'll be back. Sal's also offers great value catering for your family, company, or school event. read more

If you live in the area or close enough to Sal's and have yet to taste this pizza, then shame on you...you don't know what your missin and you don't know how lucky you are. By far, some of the best tavern style pizza to ever cross my lips..Chicago & burbs. I picked Sal's on a whim based on pictures because I was in the area and to my unexpected surprise..this pizza really knocked my socks off. We loved it. Crispy, flaky, thin crust with a perfect chew...Our sausage and mushroom was piled with mounds (yes...mounds) of house made Italian sausage. Flavorful, heaping pulled sausage..large glorious mounds. You might think it's too much, but I think it's a sausage blessing. (you can ask for easy sausage). Everything (cheese, sauce, mushrooms) about this pizza was perfect. In fact I'm really missing it now. Why are you so far away Sal's?? Located in downtown Huntley (an hour from me). Old school, local friendly vibe, small casual interior with bar. Pick-up window located in dining room. I was craving wings and ordered a small naked. These were great too. Really crispy and not at all greasy. Comes with choice of ranch or blue cheese. Didn't care for the blue cheese, but who cares cause the pizza and wings made up for anything wrong that day.. Service was very friendly. Our waitress asked if we liked the pizza and wings. I couldn't stop shoving it in my face. Not many beer on tap choices, one IPA. Full bar. Full menu including pasta, sandwiches, chicken, shrimp.. A MUST STOP. Sal's pizza is 2.4 miles away from my house. Can someone tell me why they would choose not to deliver to us when we are in Huntley. We used to get Luigi's pizza all the time. They always delivered to us and it was great. We tried again about 2 weeks ago. They said we want to make sure it's as fresh as can be. My question is, why would you have me pick it up. I don't know when it's done so it probably sits there longer and then I still have to drive it to my house. Your file very team could get it fresh from the oven drive it 2.4 miles away and deliver it FRESH. The pizza is good but the delivery policy is crap. Every time I come back to Chicago and to my mom's house in Huntley, we order classic thin crust pizza. That used to be from a place on Randall Rd - they closed. Then our go-to place was Buddy Zs on Algonquin Rd. Tonight was going to be pizza night, so I look up the number for Buddy Zs....and, tragedy! CLOSED. I was crushed. Then my mom pipes up - "there's Sal's pizza in downtown Huntley!" Looked at pics of their pizza online, looked like it might be okay? I figured it was worth a shot, so we got pizza and an italian beef sandwich. Well. First off, the pizza was excellent - piping hot, TONS of toppings, a nice crispy crust just as it should be. Perfect. Then my mom's italian beef was HUGE. And also delicious, with great bread and tasty beef. And did I mention huge? Everything was ready right when they said it would be, and the people who work there were VERY friendly. So yes, it took us a while to discover this place, but better late than never. Edit: I just want to note that the next morning, my mom is STILL raving about the italian beef sandwich. "The biggest sandwich I've ever seen! It was so good!" So there's that. read more

We have been living in Huntley for a year now and finally tried Sal's pizza this past weekend. I wish we hadn't waited so long because we have been missing out on delicious pizza! Needless to say, Sal's will now be our go to place to order thin crust pizza. We ordered a medium spinach special and a medium Mediterranean. Both were phenomenal! They are pretty similar, but the spinach special has mushrooms, and the Mediterranean has olive oil instead of pizza sauce. Their thin crust was crispy and the ingredients were plentiful. You could tell the pizzas were made with love as their secret ingredient. They also have some great coupons to choose from. We love Sal's! This is the only place our family orders pizza from. It never disappoints! Besides the pizza and other long list of great food (my husband is a HUGE fan of their wings) I just want to point out the bar area! If you live in Huntley, you know there are a handful of places you can go for a good cocktail in the downtown area. But do NOT rule out Sals. When we were sitting their last night, I noticed they had an awesome $6 drink menu. I got the Mango Tango and it was fantastic! Tasted like summer in a glass! Finally good pizza in Huntley!! We've tried them all but last year finally discovered Sal's Pizza Company in Algonquin. It was a 30 minute drive for us (Pingree Grove) and when I saw they took over Luigi's in Huntley, I couldn't have been more thrilled. I was slightly disappointed with our first order as I expected Sal's quality. Slight burn & a little dry. I thought perhaps they were working out kinks & ordered again a month later. Everything I hoped for. Absolutely mouth-watering, crunch of the crust, melt in your mouth, fresh cheese. Heaven! The handful of subsequent orders have been just as good. Tip: Every time our pizza was ready at pickup (25 minutes). The first time I think they overestimated & perhaps that's why it was dry. The last 3 times, I went in 5-10 minutes early & it was still ready. Hot, FRESH, and the epitome of perfection. I'll be picking up a few minutes "early" from now on. read more

Wow a great pizza place in Huntley off the main street. What more could we ask for Manny's for Gelato and Sal's for Pizza. The pizza had a wonderful amount of toppings and the cheese was stringy and the way it should be on pizza and served piping hot. They are a Coke product place with what appears to be a full bar. BTW we also tried the corn dog appetizers and they were crispy and tasty. Kathleen was our server and she was attentive and friendly and managed all the tables on her own. The location has a bar, pick up window, video machines and a very casual basic dinning area. If I was to make recommendations, I would say jazz up the dinning and bathroom area but trust me I will be back for that pizza.... Wish they had a location near my home... I have been looking for a good pizza place around Huntley area for quite awhile, WELL I FOUND ONE. We tried Sal's for the first time today. The pizza was the best I have had in a long time. There were lots of toppings on my pizza. It tasted like a good pizza should taste. Believe it or not I can't wait to go back and have another pizza. Sal's really is the best if you're looking for a classic Chicago-style thin crust pizza. (And if you read my other Yelp reviews, I'm not exactly the most friendly reviewer...so this review speaks volumes!) Our family has had many-a-pizzas from Sal's over the past few years...both as delivery and as carryout. We have never dined there, being as we live so close by...and pizza is just one of those meals I prefer to enjoy as a family on the couch for movie night! There is some seating inside at tables and at their full service bar. This is a classic pizza joint...not dressed up or overdone aesthetically, but a "just right" casual and comfy feeling inside. I like being able to see through into the kitchen to watch the staff prep the pizzas. And they work hard in there...and they always look happy. Give a gratuity on your purchase, and each one of them chimes in to thank you (in their special "Sal's" way). The staff truly is wonderful, starting with Sal. I've only had very brief interaction with him on a sparse occasion, but he is genuinely a nice guy. I think perhaps his wife also works out of the front kitchen counter, and she's very pleasant, too. But I think my favorite staff member at Sal's is our delivery guy. (He's a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, just like me...so that helps!) We've struck up a rapport over the past few years, and he always is extremely pleasant to me, my wife, my kids, and my dogs when he delivers. And a couple of times when I have done carryout, he has recognized me when we crossed paths. Now...as for the pizza...FANTASTIC! Pizza is kind of like Chinese food to me. We only get it every so often, so I never really stray away from what I really love...so I dont really try anything new. But I'm a fan of the Garbage pizza. The crust is cracker thin and stays relatively crispy for some time. But I recommend requesting well done, anyhow. Trust me...it won't be overcooked, but the crust will have a little extra char and blistering which (to me) brings out extra flavor. Just the right amount of sauce is spread out to within a few centimeters of the crust's edge. It has great flavor...not too sweet, not too acidic. Just right, and properly seasoned to boot. Sal's doesnt skimp on the toppings, either. Under that bubbling layer of cheese lies MOUNDS of ingredients on Sal's Garbage pizza. Not one square-cut piece is lacking. I've heard people say Sal's isn't cheap. It may be correct to state that Sal's isn't the cheapest thing around, but the quality of their product creates a great value. Look on their website for coupons to use...there's always something available to use. FYI...Sal's isn't JUST pizza. They have a full menu of entrees. Their lasagne and their meatballs are wonderful. Very generous portion size! Oh...and they have Creamy Garlic dressing for their salads which a lot of places don't carry. (And they use Romaine lettuce for their salads...so way better than the standard iceberg lettuce mix.) If you haven't tried Sal's before - or if you haven't had it in a while - I highly suggest calling up and ordering tonight! I know I will be! Bad service. Horrible pizza. I got a frozen pizza from Costco that was better than theirs. Chicken wings undercooked and server was quick and sloppy. No ice to her meant ice and not very clean. There's great competition right across the street. Sal's gets pretty packed with what looked like usuals/locals. One server is not enough and it's unfair. Both server wise as well as kitchen staff needs to be increased. They have plenty of delivery staff and it appears they get a lot of delivery orders but if they don't concentrate on quality and properly cooked food they will fail. The place is tiny for in door eating and they are juggling too much while compromising taste and proper cooking. read more
