We arrived at Sal's Place on the hottest night of the year. There wasn't a breeze to be found, and I was absolutely melting. Within minutes, though, none of that mattered. We were seated at a cozy table for two with beautiful views of the bay, and from that moment on, the experience was flawless. Ivan was the consummate professional, warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. He guided us through the menu, made thoughtful recommendations, and made us feel like regulars from the moment we sat down. His colleague kept our glasses filled with ice-cold lemon water all evening, a small gesture that was especially appreciated on such a sweltering night. We also had a second serving of delicious focaccia without even asking!! The service was effortless. You never had to look around or wonder where anyone was. Someone always seemed to appear exactly when you needed them. The wine was perfectly chilled. The food arrived piping hot. Every dish was beautifully prepared, balanced, and full of flavor. Nothing tried too hard; everything simply worked. One of my favorite parts of the evening was the atmosphere. No blaring music competing with conversation, just the soft hum of happy diners, the occasional call of a seagull, and the peaceful feeling of dining by the water. And then came the fudge at the end. Really? As if they hadn't already won us over. Sal's Place isn't just dinner, it's the kind of experience that reminds you why people fall in love with Provincetown. Came here for dinner and it is cash only. Since there was only two of us, we didn't have to wait long and were seated. We sat outside, and it was really cold but they provided blankets for us. Outdoor they have a little makeshift outdoor bar area where they can make your drinks for you which is cool. The ambiance is great being by the water. The cocktails we got were great and the service was kookie but nice, friendly and attentive. The bread we got was awesome. Now for the bad, this place is definitely one of the more expensive places in town. $20 for a cocktail or a glass of wine is a bit extreme. The meatballs we got were fine, but a bit tough and lacking in flavor. The shrimp was a little spicy, but overall OK. I got the pepper tuna steak and it was also fine. There wasn't much flavor in it. Unfortunately -2 stars for the quality of the food and the price. It is a bit weird how hyped up this place is and I will say the service and ambiance is great, but for food and drinks itself, I would definitely pick other places in town. read more

Sadly, I will never visit Sal's again. We had a 9:00pm reservation and were sat a full 60 minutes later - with our luke warm food not arriving until 11:30pm. As a customer, if you are overbooked - just tell me so I can adjust accordingly. It's unfortunate as this is perceived to be such a great establishment, but I hope they are able to fix some of the admin. Such a shame. read more

More than one travel vlogger has sung the praises of Sal's Place, so Jamie W and I were anxious to book a table at this locally famous spot when we were spending a few days in P-Town. In fact, on the way to Boy Beach, we stopped by to make a dinner reservation the next evening since they weren't answering the phone. When we came back, the place was bustling. It was Labor Day weekend, and the density of diners seemed at odds with Sal's vintage waterfront cottage setting. We could well imagine how idyllic it might feel on a quiet Sunday afternoon, but it was a busy Saturday evening with the tables crowded together. We were placed at a table made more claustrophobic by its location against a side wall. The staff appeared to have very specific roles. One girl was responsible for filling the water glasses, while another provided the small focaccia bread and olive oil. Already looking rather perturbed, the actual server was strictly focused on taking our order and serving the plates. Always a treat to eat here, so it's especially nice to be here for the 2025 season opening. The team couldn't be more pleasant. But its the food that shines. The octopus special as a starter could make anyone a lover. Getting these 8-legged wonders to be succulent and tender takes some skill, but they were "fork tender" good. We also shared a caesar salad before starting on the Vongalo; a buttery savory dish of linguine with clams and capers that spoke volumes to me. A dish so simple, that it can go so wrong, but as anticipated, it was a win for me . The other dish we ordered was the halibut, which could not have been fresher tasting if we had caught it ourselves. The dish let the fish's nature flavor speak loud, yet at the same time paired well with a simple white wine sauce and bed of vegetables. As the crowd grew, the atmosphere was more like being in a friends home than a busy restaurant. I was really excited to FINALLY make it to Sal's Place. We have been following the saga and drama surrounding this little restaurant that could. I wanted to support them knowing how much they had to fight with some of the locals - just to run their business. I knew it was cash only and we made sure to tell our friends that joined us for dinner. The menu is small, the inside is cozy and the service was very nice. Our reservation was on the earlier side so we were there before it got too crowded. The food was good! We all enjoyed our meals. I don't usually say much about price...but it has to be mentioned here. Cocktails and appetizers were $20; entrees were $40 (others more). Like I said, the food was good...but the prices don't really match the quality/quantity. I might try again in the future, but it just seems a bit steep. read more

My daughter and I absolutely loved Sal's. We have been in Ptown for 4 days and this was our favorite meal! We sat outside on the deck overlooking the water. Such a beautiful view. The blankets on the chairs were a special touch. Everyone that works there was so kind and helpful. We never had less than a half glass of water, someone added more bread to our plate as we ate it. We shared a Caesar salad that was delicious. I had the seafood fra diavolo (divine) and my daughter had the chicken parm. Her meal looks amazing as well. She said it was her favorite meal during our trip. We were given fudge after our meal which was a nice little treat. Out of all the years I spent coming to the Cape, I had never been to Sal's. I've gotta say all those years were missed opportunities. I started by trying the Caesar salad and the grilled octopus. I then ordered the chicken parm. We had received chocolates before we left for our show. The chicken parmesan was delicious, and it's the first time I've ordered one in years. The pasta was great, and the chicken was breaded and fried to perfection. The flavor in the sauce was phenomenal. As everyone knows a chicken parm is only as good as its sauce. The food was really good. The service was also great, and our server was friendly. The portion sizes were also pretty decent. I honestly miss this restaurant, and I wonder why it took so many years for us to come and find it. I feel like I finally found one of the Cape's hidden gems. The funny thing about the restaurant though is that to get to the bathroom you have to walk through the kitchen. You can see everyone running around, and you can see how they make the food. It's pretty cool. I just hope that I wasn't in the way. It was a great experience, and I'm going to put my vote in to come back again next year. read more

A Provincetown staple, Sal's continues to embed itself deeper into this ocean town community. Nestled quietly in the West End, you will not leave disappointed. With a variety of sea food based meals, they offer a selection of curated pasta dishes and main plates that will satisfy a variety of tastes. We absolutely loved the Caesar salad, crab cake and meatballs to start. Following these appetizers I had an impeccable orchiette that was large enough for two. The staff and service were great and accommodated a reservation for our large group of 11. Even with our larger group, the restaurant still felt cozy and quaint with touches of nautical decor about the space. I give up - The only way to make reservations is to call. I tried calling for 2 days, nobody answers and you are not permitted to leave a voicemail. They butt dialed me back and I was able to hear a conversation in the background, but nobody would answer me. I tried again to call back and it stated that voicemail was full. Force me to call back three times and get sassed by a bored, rude maitre d' because your voicemail box is full, even though you only take reservations on the phone. Oooh, yes sir, give me a handwritten menu with four wine options. No, wait. Give me four wine options and don't even tell me what they are, beyond red, white, "maybe a rosé" and orange. I love a Billy Joel reference, and a $20 glass of wine. Thank you for throwing some chocolates on the table with my check, king! I will accept that in lieu of dessert. Yes master, I want you to bump into me six times during dinner service because you crammed a fire-code-violating number of tables into a shanty that's a short 25-minute walk from most of PTown. But oh man, what you get in return for your submissiveness, is sublime. Meatballs my mom and sister talked about for two days afterward. Salads that are perfectly dressed with subtly sour vinaigrettes. Italian comfort food like eggplant parm, done in the hi/lo style that defines luxury to me. Service that's at once confident and attentive. Only four cocktails, all batched, but all of them knockouts. And above all, an atmosphere, a confidence, a je-ne-sais-quoi that's catnip to any sophisticated gay man. A sense that you plucked a ripe fruit at the perfect moment, and everyone who didn't eat here, missed it. You want your vacation to feel special? What was always a go-to fabulous place has unfortunately been taking a turn for the worse for a few years now. The pricing is very much off base. Three wine selections, all $80 each. All apps are $20 (fine), all entrees $40 except for the $60 beef. And it's back.....$40 eggplant parm and chicken parm. And the last time I ordered it was like a brick and slightly cold. People, please....come to NYC and I'll take you for the most fab parm at about $28. And if you're gluten-free, there are 3 entrees out of 12 you can eat. Service can feel a little rushed. Can't believe I never reviewed this. I had an amazing meal here with friends during the summer and really enjoyed it. I had a delicious Old Fashioned to start. It was very nice. Then I opted for a Caesar salad which was really tasty. For dinner, I wanted something substantial and went with a chicken parm. Man, it was good. I really enjoyed it and probably could have made it last two meals. Only downside is that, much like many places in P-town, the place is tiny and it's a squeeze at the table and you're eating in your neighbor's lap, but with food this good, it isn't much of a bother. Solid Italian food right in P-Town!! Prepare to be sitting CLOSE to another party; the restaurant is inside an old house right on the water, and the tables are really packed in. The service (the waitstaff and the owner) were beyond friendly, one of my favorite parts about this restaurant. I ordered the veal, pork, & beef meatballs, and the special for the night- spaghetti with lobster. The meatballs were well-seasoned, juicy, and tender; the spaghetti was al dente with large chunks of buttery lobster. The entree portion of the meal was a hefty portion and I could not finish it all. We had a nice weeknight dinner at Sal's in September. We had a 6:00 PM reservation. The place is "cosy" if you will, a little rough as well. Menu is small. We started with a octopus app which was very good, however extreamly small. We all shared a bowl of salad, which was simple, however very fresh and good. I had the lobster pasta which was excellent. Had a LOT Of big chunks of lobster. Hubs had the chicken parm and was not impressed. Only dessert they had was some sort of chocolate fudge which was interesting. This one is a gem. Very well-run with terrific service from sweet & kind staff. The cocktails were Ah-maz-ing!! Don't skip on one. The Arugula and Caesar salads were excellent. However one of the favorite dishes of the evening was the Charred Octopus appetizer. Tender with WOW flavors. Should be an entree. Next was the Halibut Picatta. Quite delicious. In a world full of overly complex, highly digital, overly curated and cattle hurded experiences, this isn't one. My first heart attack was when I called and made a reservation for 7 people the week of 4th of July. They didn't ask for a phone number from me or a credit card to hold the reservation. This could have gone either way. Either we show up and no record of us or we would be good. We were realists about what to expect roughly and albeit this isn't my first time here, however it is the first time under this ownership! Yeah, its been a while! . We read reviews and knew first hand from others who have been that they can and often fall behind in getting you to your table. We had some light snacks and pre dinner cocktails at our bnb. Needless to say, we arrived and there was a wait to check in. We mingled with other patrons. After 10 minutes, the Host took our drink order while we waited. 30 minutes of cocktail time and talking with strangers before we were seated. Imagine?! Strangers, talking?! How terrible that must have been?! ( sarcasm) Everyone that came to the table was polite and expedient! Ivan was our waiter and was personable and very quick with any requests we had. Sioban ( the owner ) stoped by the table while passing through the outside deck and made small talk with us. The food was fantastic, arrived piping hot and fresh ingredients and wonderful flavors! This establishment knows who they are and how to do it well. Of course, some aspects of the experience arent " corporate perfection"and that is ok! We forget we are on vacation, with no schedule, and things move slower on the Cape. Shit happens time to time and that serves as a reminder to let go of the things in which we can not control. They are here for us. Sals is a place that forces us to take a deep breath and to enjoy an experience of the past. The old, Provincetown. Personable and hospitable. Slower. Memorable. Sal's used to be a dependable restaurant--not great food, but decent enough, with a great setting, and walkable, for west enders, but now it's just a money grab, as another reviewer put it. Low-end wine for $20 a glass/$80 per bottle, and the pasta vongole this year had 3 real clams in it and the rest were chopped, canned clams, for $40. Unbelievable. WTF Sal's? For shame! My great friends and I stumbled upon this restaurant while searching for dinner in P-town for the Sunday! We had never heard of it before but were drawn by the hygge/cozy ambiance in the patio space. While the prices were probably more than what our group had planned, it was completely worth the experience and service! Once you enter, you are find that you are dining in a small house-like space surrounded by beautiful paintings. Our table had nice dim-light candles and freshly cut flowers by the owner/manager. The set-up for our table was not the most intuitive in that 2 people were facing one direction with the other 2 in our party sitting perpendicularly to the others, but this was just a minor detail I noticed. With regards to the food, the seafood fra diavolo was nicely seasoned with a spicy tint! The water was also unique and honestly the freshest water my group has tasted in a restaurant. Interesting thing to mention...but it was seriously that noteworthy!! It had mint, lemon, and lime notes, and truly shows their attention to detail. Sal's Place was even nice enough to serve us a fried calamari and fudge with lavender sea salt on the house! Right when we thought it couldn't be better! My friends all enjoyed their experience. They were also very attentive to our table, and we are so glad we found Sal's. It has great food and even better service! The ambience is lovely, but the food is simple. These guys understand ambience. (Why is this so rare in the restaurant industry?!) Low lights, candles, soft music, waterfront view, attentive service. It's great! However, the food is mostly unimpressive. First the good: the little arancini were excellent. And their wines ("red" and "white") were fine. But the entrees were disappointing. My partner had the tuna which was not fresh and was overcooked. I had clam pasta, and the minced clams were tough and rubbery (came from a can?) There were only 2 whole clams in shells -- although a few more empty shells were added for good measure. The place is also expensive. (Were those entrees $40 apiece?) The wines were $20/glass. In summary, if you are not a discerning diner, you will love the ambience and perhaps not notice the mediocrity of the food. A good date night restaurant for 20-somethings (with deep pockets.)
