About a mile away from the Concord COSTCO next to Detroit avenue. The building first of all looks an office building small and a small one story house decided to merge and become one. On to the interior, lots of stuff going on. Sports memorabilia books like a coffee shop . Looks like a lot of locals frequent this place and lots of to do orders as lots of work businesses nearby. There is curb street parking . I asked the cashier if any taco Tuesday deals he said NO. Then I asked for a recommendation he said enchiladas and I said I went with the beef ones because honestly I never order enchiladas . The taste of Salsa verde reminds me of a potluck or going over to your friend place and his mom made Mexican food or dinner . But I like this place a lot, not loud quiet peaceful affordable place to have some Mexican food in the heart of concord. Beer and wine only. Decent. Ordered via Doordash, and the food arrived almost lukewarm. (That's on Doordash, and not the restaurant?). The pork tamal was huge, and crammed full of very well-prepared shredded pork. The chile relleno was a bit tough, pretty flat, and lacking the sauce that was supposed to come on top. But NOT one bit greasy! Which, for me, is a big bonus. The grilled chicken street taco was meh: very small, and the chicken was a bit tough, but well-flavored. I happen to love cilantro, which there was plenty of, and very fresh. People who have the "cilantro tastes like soap" gene should ask for it to be left off. The salsa that came with the chips (which I didn't eat many of) was pretty bland. I appreciated that the food wasn't as salty as other restaurants' I've tried. It's pretty expensive, for what you get. Would I order from here again? Maybe. I used to go to a couple of my long term favorites but for some reason the carnitas at both have changed. I've been in search of a place with great carnitas and Al Pastor again. I tried Salsa Verde based upon the rating on Yelp. I love crispy tacos and I noticed Salsa Verde sold both soft and crunchy tacos. I ordered one carnitas, one pollo and one Al Pastor crunchy taco. My friend ordered one Al pastor, one carnitas and one lengua crunchy taco. The tacos come with pico de gallo, sour cream and cheese. The overall taco was a bit drier than what I expected. I plan to try soft tacos next time. Overall, I would give the tacos 3.5 stars and the service 5 stars. The staff was very nice and attentive. We ate outside and they brought us chips and salsa. When our food was ready, they brought our order to us. They have a nice outdoor eating area. I've been driving past this restaurant for years and finally decided to give it a try. It was time and money well spent and wish I hadn't waited so long. We were greeted by Humberto, the owner. What a kind and generous man. Our order was "to go" and prepared quickly. We ordered the carne asada taco plate (served as street tacos) and very tasty, the flautas plate (chicken) was very good, and the chili rellenos plate that was incredible. What do I love? Delicious Mexican food! And, Salsa Verde Mexican DELIVERS, mmkay? Hella bomb ass Mexican food all the way in the cuts of Concord. Yes, I said in the cuts because it's hidden on some random industrial style road, but apparently, that ain't stopping nobody else from coming here. And since it's randomly located, there's enough street parking to keep everyone happy. Came here one day craving for some authentic Mexican eats, and that's exactly what I got! I must first mention how stinkin' CUTE this place looks! When you first pull up, you might think that you've arrived at someone's residence until you see their sign on the building! The exterior looks like a cute old house! The interior reminds me of a grandma's dining room, but not in a bad way. The table cloths are so damn adorable and the entire place has such a homey feel to it. When you walk in, you'll order at the counter and they'll bring your food out to your table. I was in a seafood mood (but then again, when am I NOT in a seafood mood?) and decided to order their camarones al mojo de ajo aka garlic shrimp entree. DAMN was that sucker good! They blessed me with a generous portion of juicily plump and flavorful shrimp alongside the most authentic tasting rice and homemade refried beans! It. Was. Heaven. HEAVEN! Portions were so large that ended up taking a doggie bag with me to go. Their homemade flour tortillas were the perfect additive to this already perfect dish! And, let's not forget to mention that horchata and those super tasty complimentary chips and salsa! YAAASSS! YAS to it ALL! The horchata was delicious and their chips and salsa were even more amazing at that. Fresh made chips and really yummy salsa with a nice kick. The only nitpick would be to lessen the amount of salt on those chips because with that kind of salsa, it really didn't need it. Service was excellent! It's a family owned business and everyone that I encountered was extremely friendly and seems excited to be there. They also have a TV in their lobby and they were playing the Warriors game while I was there. Extra cool points awarded for that! Very tasty! I came here while looking for "Mazeh Kitchen," which is now closed. Salsa Verde, on the other hand, was a fantastic find! The food is fresh and has a handmade flavor. The staff was quite pleasant and helpful. Normally, chips are oily, but these were wonderful. Pico was delicious, as were the beans and rice. Taquitos and quesadillas were on my menu. A very wide variety of items to order, including Mexican soft drinks and beers as the refreshments. And horchata and Jamaica, of course. I've had a few of their items, but the unique one that is really worth a try is the molcajete. Which is a traditional molcajete made from lava rock, filled to the brim with chicken, pork, beef, onions, peppers, and a delicious tomato salsa. It is a lot of food. They suggested is for two but from where I'm sitting I would call it suitable for four. And it comes with lots of refried beans, rice, and half a dozen delicious homemade corn tortillas. I kindly said hello and informed him I came to pick up an order I made through Door Dash and he mentioned it's been ready a while ago (my food was sitting there for nearly 40 minutes). I showed him that I selected for it to be picked up at the time I had arrived and instead of helping fix the situation he literally said "Deal with Door Dash". Now for the food: Obviously it was cold. Enchilada sauce tasted like it was artificial and not homemade. The beef was stiff and not good. They barely put any beans. The rice was basic. About 7 months ago I made the mistake of trying the kitchen's offerings at Salsa Verde and found the food to be quite awful, about the bottom-of-the-barrel for the local area, and then wrote a detailed review of why I developed that opinion. Given the hype that the owner puts out about the supreme quality of his food I was really surprised as to just how seriously each item had failed in the flavor department. Then today, I received the owner's response in a Yelp email that is as follows: "How dare you insult my customers and restaurant, you are a special kind of moron. Humberto (925)695-5114." Unfortunately, Humberto talks big, but functions small, and now it appears that he has added rudeness to the failings of Salsa Verde, rather than trying to hire someone who will cook good Mexican food ( though probably not possible with Humberto directing the kitchen). read more

A cut above the greasy taquerias. The mole is sweet and subtle. Wet burrito was satisfying too. Portions are good, ingredients are fresh. I don't think they use lard. Skip the empanadas: I have had them in South America, and the meat seasoning in these ones is overly salty and different. Mexican empanadas might be different though. Service was outstanding: the server checked up on us several times. The decor is really nice; not just Mexican restaurant-themed, but even almost coffee shop-like with books and newspapers to read while you wait for your food. read more

Another solid Mexican restaurant in Concord! Salsa Verde is located in a quiet industrial area near the Concord Costco. I bookmarked this place a while ago after I saw the pictures of their molcajete, which is a dish made with grilled steak and chicken and cactus and served in a vessel called molcajete. For lack of a better description, it is like a Mexican hot pot. My friend and I decided to try this place today after my my eye exam. We arrived at around 1:30pm. The exterior of the restaurant looked very charming. There was a white picket fence right out in front, with the flags of the US and Mexico displayed prominently for everyone to see. For a moment, I felt like I was in the countryside instead of an industrial neighborhood. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we walked in. We were greeted by the el jefe at the ordering counter. Fresh tomatillos could be seen charring on the hot grill. Since my friend doesn't eat cactus, we decided to try something else. With their name being Salsa Verde, I decided to get a wet super carnitas burrito covered with the namesake sauce ($8) while my friend got a super carne asada burrito ($7.50). With a drink and tip, my meal came out to $12. I started looking around after we sat down. The place was bright and clean. There were about seven or eight tables inside and a few outside as well. A flat screen TV was showing a news program. Books and newspapers were available to those who like to eat and read. Complementary chips and salsa were brought to us by one of the servers. The chips were pretty average. The red salsa was freshly made and mild in heat. I liked the fact that they gave us individual servings of salsa instead of one communal bowl. Our food arrived soon after. My wet carnitas burrito was of good size. It was covered with a liberal amount of salsa verde and melted cheese. When I cut the burrito in half, the inside was revealed. It had a great balance of ingredients and a good amount of carnitas was used. The salsa verde was robust and tangy. The carnitas was succulent and flavorful. The only thing I didn't like was the lettuce in my burrito. Fortunately, it didn't affect the overall taste. At $8, it was a great deal. I asked my friend about her carne asada burrito. Since she works in the Mission in SF, she has a very high standard when it comes to Mexican food. She gave her burrito 3.5 stars. I thought the service we received was good. The el jefe was friendly and attentive. At the end of our meal, he saw my friend didn't finish her burrito and brought over a to-go box. Overall, I thought the food at Salsa Verde was solid, but I still put Taqueria Carnitas Tijuana as my top choice of Mexican food in Concord. With that said, I will go back to Salsa Verde again and try their famous molcajete sometime in the future. This place is amazing! I stopped by here one day I needed to grab food really quick. I called and order a super burrito. The person who answered said it was going to be ready within 5 minutes. When I got there, they were packing my burrito with chips and salsas. The burrito was AMAZING! Perfect amount of meat and the rest of the ingredients.
