I came back the second day and had the vietnamese coffee flavor. I added the oreo crumbs as well. It was good and a tad too sweet tho. I had dinner in the plaza and came back again. This time my scoop was huge (thanks btw!), and it was the sun, moon and star flavor. It didn't really taste as much of anything and i added oreo crumbs again. this was the most disappointing flavor, which other Yelpers pointed put as well. Saturday was super busy day, so fun vibes for sure. Fri, was a funky time to go. Both was late afternoon and evenings tho. - So I just came here 3 days in a row and brought a buddy. I orders the cauldron with the smores topping as well as the earl gray lavender with honey drizzle and biscoff crumbs (which was recommended by the owner's husband, Mike). The earl gray lavender is my favorite tea based flavor that they have! His wife, Susan, created the ice cream confections! It was an interesting take on ice cream. The flavors were hitting all the notes. I got the Vietnamese tea ice cream and my son got the Cauldron with a topping. The puff pastry was an added element, with or without it the ice cream and the entire desert is a winner for me. I would love to rate this place higher, but after visiting a few times over the years, the biggest issue has been the inconsistency. When they get it right, the cauldron puffle is easily a 5 star dessert. Unfortunately, we've also had visits where it was so overly sweet that we could barely finish half of it. Our go to flavor is cauldron, and to play it safe at this point, my husband and I always share a single puffle. Even then, it comes out to almost $17, which feels pretty steep. We first tried Cauldron about five years ago, and I honestly don't remember it being this expensive. That said, the shop itself is really neat. If you or someone in your group orders the original nitrogen ice cream, the entire place fills with fog, making for a fun and unique experience--especially for the kiddos!! My only other complaint is the customer service. I always make it a point to smile and greet employees, but the lady taking my order never smiled once and seemed like she didn't want to be there. The shop is conveniently located in the same complex as Sprout's. The shop is pretty small with a couple tables inside. It's really cool to see them make ice-cream real time with liquid nitrogen. We got the Earl Grey Lavender Puffle. The Earl Grey ice-cream is creamy and tastes good with mild hint of earl grey flavor with honey drizzled on top. However, the puffle is not good at all. It's soft, too dense and soggy. It's supposed to be crispy outside and light. The puffle wasn't freshly made and it is very disappointing. It was so bad that we ended up throwing it away. I will say it leans toward the pricier side, but it makes sense considering they use liquid nitrogen to create each batch and it really adds to the experience and quality. I loved it but I think it may have been a little too sweet for my liking. Yes it's ice cream but I'm Asian and prefer my dessert not too sweet. A medium was the perfect size to share. The entire time, it felt like we were inconveniencing the two employees just by ordering ice cream. There were two female employees, and they were being rude and disrespectful. We spent over $90 as a group, and we received such terrible service. The girls were speaking aloud, saying how they would speak to their manager to refuse service to us. They were constantly rolling their eyes as they would pass by us. They would not tell us to have a nice night as they did to other customers after us. We were sitting inside for 30 minutes, and they would still continue to talk badly about us on purpose so that we could hear. It turns out I haven't been here in six years! I ordered the old-fashioned vanilla that way I could share it with my husky dog. I came late on a Saturday night. It's great that they are open late! We had the sea salt caramel puffel and the vanilla puffel--both were good, with the ice cream being creamy and the puffel (bubble waffle) nicely warm and soft. I usually enjoy getting egg puffs but the egg puffs here are very dense waffles, not lightweight mochi waffles. I do not like dense pastries at all, it takes away from the flavor. It was impossible to finish the waffle for that reason. The ice cream flavors come in a nice variety, but it takes so long to get it prepared since they make the ice cream in nitrogen, made to order. If the ice cream has to be made on the spot just to make it smooth, I'd rather just go to Baskin Robbins. It was $14 for a nearly flavorless dessert that I ended up throwing away halfway through. Final Thoughts: 3.4/5 This place has been around for as long as I can remember now and I've known of this place for years. Definitely haven't gone in over 5 years? I can remember going here once maybe. Now that I'm back here, I can kind of understand why. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, but it just wasn't spectacular. Kind of hard for me to describe it, but definitely a 3 star. Dessert: Earl Grey Lavendar Ice Cream: 3.9/5 Their ice cream was actually alright for what it was. Flavor wise, the lavender does come out and there is a subtle flavor of earl grey. Typically, earl grey tea has a very distinct flavor and I thought that it would overpower the lavender flavor. Doesn't seem like the case here though. Both were just very subtle. The flavoring appears to come from a powder flavoring item that I saw them adding to the mixture. For me, I feel like it does give a better flavor than a syrup perhaps, but the flavor is quite light. Seems more of that natural flavor and scent of lavender, which I like. The honey actually does contribute nicely with the flavor of lavender. That flavor combination is also such a classic. Something I don't really like though was the consistency of the honey drizzle on the ice cream. It freezes and becomes quite hard. The honey does soften and melt in your mouth, but the initial mouthfeel is now the best for me. For sweetness level, I believe it is too sweet for me. The ice cream itself already felt somewhat sweet and then the honey on top really just pushed it over the edge. The flavor of the honey is nice, but some adjustments to the sweetness would have done this one better for me. Bubble Waffle Cone: 3.9 The bubble waffle also...wasn't bad. Very crispy texture on the outside. The inside is soft. The flavor for the waffle is quite light. Does contribute nicely to the ice cream overall because it does add that additional component of flavor and texture. Something about the hot waffle with the ice cream just works really well for me too. Kind of upsetting we lost a bubble from behind the counter, but I digress. Aesthetics: Rose Carving They're very well known for being one of the first, if not the first, shop to carve their ice cream scoop into a rose. Aesthetic wise, I am here for it. The flower design just makes me happy even though it seems to be a very small detail. Menu: 90's Flavors Their menu is quite small and I feel like a lot of these flavors are what you would consider "basic" or perhaps just flavors from the 90's. Other's might consider these classic flavors...Honestly, there's nothing wrong with these flavors. They just need to be done and made super well. Nowadays, I've observed people leaning into the more into the mixing of flavors or different combinations and creating new flavors that currently follow the trends to get more customers coming in. I did see that they did have matcha, but it really isn't that special? Very interesting that it just doesn't catch my eye and it really wasn't even something that I considered getting even though I'm well into the matcha craze at the moment. --------- Quality: Churned fresh to order They seem to make it fresh to order. We ordered first and then we saw them churning it in the stand mixer with what looked like liquid nitrogen so that it was freeze quickly. Interesting concept that intrigues me, but there's something about that premade ice cream that melts differently in your mouth and has a different mouthfeel to it. Price: Fair...I think Their price is alright. For this entire cup, it was around $13-14. Hmm...that sounds like a fair price to me? That or perhaps it leans more on the expensive side. They were there to greet us and ask us if we needed help with order or if we had questions about the menu. Nothing too significant though. We just ordered at the kiosk at the front and then they made it for us and served it up. Love the display looking that's happening. There's some color, stools, tall bar tables, and regular tables. Of course, there's the counter taking most of the space. I like the amount of space around the shop though. Doesn't feel too crowded. Location/Parking: Will depend It's located on E Browkaw Road and Oakland Road. This shop is in an area that's pretty saturated with other restaurants and shops. That also translates to this space having quite a few parking spaces. Although, I don't know if it's optimal because it can still be difficult to find a space sometimes, it seems better than the other parking lot that's parallel to this plaza. When we went to Cauldron Ice Cream it felt like the workers were really overworked. The lines were out the door and they didn't seem capable or trained enough to be left alone. We ordered and then were told there would be a 15-20 minute wait for some ice cream because a machine was acting up, so we understood and waited. After about 20 minutes we were told again it would be another 40 minutes, so we asked for a refund but nether worker knew how to do it. Hopefully we do get a refund, if not we'll have to contact the owner. Not the staffs fault at all, but this falls back on the owner and management for not training employees properly.
