We had very high expectations coming in but left very disappointed especially after how expensive it was. Our mistake was expecting to have the same experience we've had several times at the downtown location. Was a bit surprised to find out they only had three beers on draft. Ordered one only to find out 15 minutes later they were out and only had two options available. My wife ordered a glass of wine off the "wine by the glass" list, but come to find out it was misprinted and only available by the bottle apparently. Asked what the featured catch of the day was - "We haven't had that available since we opened." Why put it on the menu then? Calamari ($15) was pretty good just expect to run out of the dipping sauce it comes with because the portion is very small. Red snapper ($32) for me, no flavor and very bland. Should have ordered it to come with a sauce so maybe that's my mistake. Still figured it would have even the slightest seasoning. Wife ordered the sea bass ($39) with lemon butter sauce. She said it was pretty good. The broccolini ($10) had zero seasoning and was undercooked. We should've asked for salt. The lobster risotto ($12) was not the right texture and also under seasoned. We're aware of the labor shortage so that may have been in play but our server was completely absent for most of the meal. It took about 15 minutes to get our drinks so we were just sitting there with nothing. Once we ordered our food, we sat and waited ~30 minutes only to have the server come and say they were very busy. Took another 15-20 to get our meal. We ordered a 2nd round of drinks during our meal and didn't get them until after the food was eaten and the table was cleared while waiting for our check. I would have rather just cancelled the 2nd round and saved ourselves another $25 but the server wasn't around. The check was the quickest part as you pay at the table. Never saw a manager making the rounds you'd expect at a newer opening. We saw at least 5 different people hovering at the hostess station so they had that part under control. There are several holes in the menu and seemed disorganized for what we were expecting. I think they need to work out the kinks before we come back and spend the money that we expect to pay at a nice seafood restaurant. New seafood restaurant in a spot that has been a restaurant of some kind for years. The place is much more open and brighter than previous establishments in the same space. Upscale seafood is the calling here, on the level with the better places for seafood in Indy. Sat a the well appointed bar vs. ample seating in the place, as well as some outdoor tables. "T" was a fantastic bartender and took very good care of us. We had a variety of seafood items ( calamari, oysters, fish entree, lobster mac and cheese) which were all very tasty and well prepared. The first two things I noticed about Salt when I got there with reservations on a Saturday at seven were how busy it wasn't and how loud it was. My ears adjusted, but empty tables remained. Going into this I anticipated a pretentious upscale restaurant for the sake of being upscale. That was not the case at all. The service was attentive and timely without being overbearing. There were good food choices and they did not disappoint. The crab stuffed mushrooms were perfect with crab forward flavor and nice creamy cheese. My halibut was flavorful and flaky yet solid. My wife said the shrimp and grits were the best she's ever had. On the downside, half of the desert menu was not available. The price was reasonable, a little high but not crazy. You go to a restaurant for the food, and at Salt the food is the star. We will go back and hope others go as well. read more

This restaurant is right next to my home so I was super excited to have a nice place to get cocktails and a bite whenever the hubby and I are feeling spontaneous and want to take a walk. I really love all the employees that work there, the bartenders are some of the nicest peeps. The food is good. I really think it will change and grow a little based off what the customers in this area are wanting. They have a lot of seafood mains but I would love to see more shareables! The server could not answer basic questions about the meal. He just kept saying I've only been here two weeks. However, he would not go and ask. He also forgot a modification on an appetizer. Plan to be there almost two hours as it took over 50 min to get food. The manager never came around and asked how everything was. The host had to bring us more water. The steak was cooked well with good flavor but the chicken with jalapeño cream gravy was disappointing. The chicken was bland. The calamari was dry with very little sauce and had to send it back. Overall, logistically, it was just not managed well and the server did not have enough training nor seemed interested to follow up how the meal was etc. If you can tolerate the very slow service, you may enjoy your food depending what you get. I probably won't be back as there are many better choices especially when it comes to service. If you are going to pay that high of a price point you should expect good service and that was not the case. I know it takes awhile to adjust with a newer restaurant but the basics of running a restaurant are a must and just weren't there. read more

We had dinner at Salt this evening and everything was wonderful! We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The interior space has been completely redone from the previous business and is beautiful and stylish...coastal chic, not kitschy. The service was attentive and fun. We ordered drinks, calamari and shrimp cocktail to start; my husband asked for a different sauce with the calamari and it was delivered as requested. For dinner we had shrimp & grits and pan-seared red grouper, and both dishes were very fresh and delicious. During dinner, the manager and later, one of the owners stopped by to see how we liked everything, which was nice. The prices are not at all out of line with any other fine-dining restaurant. Wow. WORST SERVICE I've had in a long time. By far the worst service I've had in the Geist area. Waited up front at the hostess stand 10 minutes to even be seated and another 15 to even have any service staff to acknowledge we were seated and bring water. It was over 30 minutes to have our order taken, and the restaurant was not busy. There was also no coffee in the self serve coffee station, which we notified the staff (twice) and they took about 30 minutes to switch that out. If it tells you anything, another couple got up and left due to know one coming over to wait on them. Very disappointing, given this is supposed to be an upper scale restaurant. I've worked at restaurants and first key is to have good service, not NON EXISTENT service. Their saving grace was the bartender helping us and the food was really really good. I had just their basic breakfast: eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, and hash browns. The others I was with had the gluten free cinnamon roll pancakes (they loved them), the Smokey John omelette (they said it was solid), and last person had the breakfast hash (said it was fire). They get one more shot and hopefully the service drastically improves because Geist needs a consistently good brunch spot. read more

I don't know if the multiple sauces for the entrees are supposed to make up for the plain flavorless food or what but we won't be back. We get there at 12 waitress didn't come to the table until 12:30 to ask what we wanted to drink and then we didn't see her for a while. Order food and it took an hour and a half to get our food. The food was not hot and some of the orders were not right. Was super excited to try brunch but unfortunately didn't get a chance. Drinks took an absurd amount of time to come out (mimosas and a screwdriver, so nothing complicated), the screwdriver was incorrect, and one of the mimosas took almost an hour, even with several inquiries as to where it was. Forty-five minutes after we put in our food order we were told it hadn't gone through to the kitchen and would we like to put it in again. We chose to leave instead and enjoy brunch elsewhere. I was hoping this would be a new place to enjoy breakfast/ brunch but after this experience I'm not interested in returning anytime soon. Made reservation online and when we showed up they did not have it. The food was mediocre and I was expecting higher quality for the price. My wife had shrimp and grits and the shrimp was over cooked and the grits were under cooked. I started with a Caesar salad and it appeared to come out of a bad with just some chopped romaine lettuce, croutons and lightly parmesan cheese with no dressing. Service was HORRIBLE! I booked my reservation for 7:15 at this location through open table. The hostesses hesitantly seated my mother and I in a secluded area where 2 parties were dining. 5 min pass and no one has greeted us and introduced themselves as our waiter. 10 min have passed and still the same thing--NOTHING. My mom inquires to the hostess of our server. 5 more minutes pass. I approach the desk of the hostess: "Hi, we arrived at 7:15. It is now 7:34. Can you tell me why no one has greeted us or offered us a glass of water?" She responds with I'm sorry and an invalid explanation. I ask to speak to the manager. 2 minutes pass and then the manager comes to "help." I inform the manager, "I arrived at 7:15 & it is now 7:36. Can YOU tell me why my party has not been greeted or has not been offered a glass of water? Was the server not aware of our table?" The manager says "I'm sorry," offers to get our waiter and offers complimentary appetizers. I counter the offer to include drinks, too. 3 minutes later Stormy the waiter introduces herself and says she'll take our order for appetizers. The first was so bad that the manager volunteered to comp the whole meal but the last one they sent a girl after 25 minutes of no service to open a bottle of wine and didn't know how to use the opener!
